The Dorset is perfect for our needs, a central location, plenty to see and do and handy if, like us, you are seeing a performance at Glyndebourne. Staff are friendly, rooms clean and the bar serves good beers!

Warm welcome at the Dorset for our one night stay to visit Lewes. Parking was opposite in a council car park and free as a bank holiday. We were taken to our room, given instructions for a late night return after closing hours and breakfast timings. Room comfortable and clean. Noise minimal as pub closed at 10pm. Breakfast was a continental with plenty of options. Liked the pub too where we had drinks only as food is not served after 4pm on a Sunday.

A lovely friendly old fashioned English Pub. The staff were very nice and prepared to to go over and above to accommodate needs. They have a large beer garden in which my large family enjoyed wide a varied and delicious lunch that suited all our tastes. The rooms are traditional with comfy beds and the continental breakfast has a range of products along with warm croissants and toast. Overall a wonderful stay and will definitely return there.

Staff friendly and welcoming. Very noisy the first night (sunday) most of the noise came from private property above our room and then noise again from about 6am. Second night much quietier. Bedding and towels clean. Rooms are very run down. Did not use kettle and full limescale and dirty.

Our room was spacious and very clean, nice bathroom, towels and complimentary toiletries. Great coffee machine in the room. Free continental, buffet breakfast was a nice extra. In an excellent position, close to lots of other bars and restaurants. Good value for money and friendly staff.

Bed area ok but bathroom wasn't very clean - (i.e. shower had grime along door tracks and the sink had yellowed limescale. Also the coffee machine had an old pod left in it. Basically just needs a bit more care! Also pub noise from room directly under but this finished around 11pm.

Had a lovely short stay here. Perfect location for parking and for walking into the centre of Lewes. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room had all that we needed. Yes, the bedside lamp did not have a bulb in it and there was a little mould on the bathroom ceiling in one area but the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet and we had en-suite with complimentary toiletries. Coffee machine and kettle, tea & coffee in the room. Continental breakfast at 9am of cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, croissants and blueberry muffins plus really tasty toast. Great value for money. Would stay here again.

Comfortable room. Staff on checking in very matter of fact and didn’t feel particularly welcoming. Good variety at breakfast (gluten free cereals and oat milk) but no plates for croissants and muffins. Shower needs a good clean round the edges. Books got stuck to surface in room as stick drink rings had not been cleaned off. Overall a good budget stay.

Good location for us half a hour from the ferry port. Room size ok for us. Overall the room was a bit tired and could benefit from an update. The items we noted were:- One failed and one failing light bulb on the main light made the room a bit dim. Wobbly toilet seat Plug in the washbasin was not attached and was difficult to use. Beside tables were rickety and needed attention. Missing top on the coffee machine water container makes it is unhygienic and put us off using it. Staff could have been more cheerful, not one smile. We are highlighting these issues because we are not responsible for any of these problems, damage or defects.

Some may say great old classic tavern others may say run down pub in need of some care and attention!! The room was extremely small, one way to tell was because the bed was extremely small and only matched by the extreme uncomfortableness of it. If you want something relatively cheap and old school look elsewhere if you want something dirty and uncomfortable this is for you

Lovely old pub, nice friendly staff. We booked the large double which was extremely comfortable, great pillows. The only let down was the cold, it was freezing. Heating wasn't working. This wouldn't put me off staying again, as it's a really nice place

Our stay didn't start well when we entered a cold room on a very cold day. The radiator didn't seem to work so we told someone who said that he would turn the heating on. This caused the bathroom radiator to come on but not the one in the bedroom. We asked for help again so the same person came up to the room but couldn't get the radiator to turn on. He said that he would find us an electric heater which he eventually did. There were other things not right, such as no hooks in the bathroom so nowhere to hang towels, a broken handle on the chest of drawers, no toilet brush and only one bedside lamp. The breakfast was very poor and consisted mainly of yoghurts, cereal, a bit of fruit and toast. Occasionally a pre packed croissant or muffin would appear. Nobody ever appeared to restock the food and coffee unless you went out to find them. It was called a continental breakfast but I have never had one so meagre when abroad. There could have been cheese or ham or boiled eggs at least - something to fill you up. On the plus side the bed was comfortable and the shower decent.

The staff were welcoming and the room clean but the room heating was inadequate. The radiator in the bedroom was never more than warm/tepid , the radiator in the showeroom was hotter. I was woken by the cold in the room at 3am of my stay. The corridor between the rooms was also cold.

Overnight stay straight from the France ferry. Have to be in by 11pm which as we had delay getting off the boat we called to say we were on our way. Were told "we shut at 11pm!" but, we made it in time anyway.

Great value for money. The room was clean and warm. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. Only let down was the miserable guy on duty when we hecked in just before 11pm. We were told by him that we had to be there for 11 or we could not get the key. We rushed to get there after he begrudgingly told us he would wait a few minutes as we rang a said we might be a few minutes late. He was cleaning up the bar anyway. So he could easily have waited. Apart from this the stay was very pleasant and even more so for the price.

Easy check in by the friendly staff. The room was compact, a little chilly but fine. The bed was comfy. There was only a trickle of hot water in the sink but the shower worked and was nice and hot. In room shower gels, coffee, biscuits…. Thumbs up. Parking is close and free in the evening until 9am.

Last minute booking, was unsure due to some reviews but glad we went ahead! Very welcoming staff when we arrived. Shown to room and given instructions about out of hours procedure. We had dinner at the pub which was good value and again same helpful staff serving us. Room was clean and well equipped although bed was a bit small but maybe because we have a king size at home! Breakfast was included which we were surprised at! There was toast, selection of cereal, yogurts and pastries! Overall a great night stay at a bargain price and very nice staff!

I’ve stayed here many times in the past (and recommended it to friends) and have always found the staff welcoming, helpful and extremely courteous. The location near to a large car park is ideal, especially for visits to the opera at Glyndebourne.

The Dorset is perfect for our needs, a central location, plenty to see and do and handy if, like us, you are seeing a performance at Glyndebourne. Staff are friendly, rooms clean and the bar serves good beers!

Had a lovely short stay here. Perfect location for parking and for walking into the centre of Lewes. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room had all that we needed. Yes, the bedside lamp did not have a bulb in it and there was a little mould on the bathroom ceiling in one area but the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet and we had en-suite with complimentary toiletries. Coffee machine and kettle, tea & coffee in the room. Continental breakfast at 9am of cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, croissants and blueberry muffins plus really tasty toast. Great value for money. Would stay here again.

It is what it says on the tin! A room in an old pub. Was clean and tidy but the shower in our room leaked. The breakfast was just toast and cereal and quite meagre, items ran out and were not replenished. Easy to walk into Lewes Town. Parking is in the pay and display car park over the road.

The Good - Room OK, Bed Surprisingly comfortable and good quality bedding. Food great in the pub The Bad - Tired furniture and especially rickety wardrobe. (Room 2) Breakfast was almost non existent, had to search for member of staff. ran out of coffee, no hot food available. Was begrudgingly offered toast as a hot meal

Last minute booking, was unsure due to some reviews but glad we went ahead! Very welcoming staff when we arrived. Shown to room and given instructions about out of hours procedure. We had dinner at the pub which was good value and again same helpful staff serving us. Room was clean and well equipped although bed was a bit small but maybe because we have a king size at home! Breakfast was included which we were surprised at! There was toast, selection of cereal, yogurts and pastries! Overall a great night stay at a bargain price and very nice staff!

Comfortable room. Staff on checking in very matter of fact and didn’t feel particularly welcoming. Good variety at breakfast (gluten free cereals and oat milk) but no plates for croissants and muffins. Shower needs a good clean round the edges. Books got stuck to surface in room as stick drink rings had not been cleaned off. Overall a good budget stay.
