I've stayed here many times, currently having refurb work conducted so only downside on this trip was smell of new paint, but that wont last. Clean and conformable room, with sea view

Stayed for 1 night paid extra for breakfast, had been closed due to refurbishment and we stayed day after opening. Workmen in main lobby as soon as we arrived no front desk a workman told us where to go . Our room was on 2 nd floor no lift and I have mobility issues but I took it slow the ground floor twin rooms were being refurbished. Our room had no wardrobe, just a hanging rail, no drawers to put clothes and no curtains just a roller blind it was a nicely decorated room though and was clean. Breakfast was served between 7 and 9.30 however there was a huge sign to say it was between 7 and 12 so I asked if we could come down at 10 which they said no problem we will let the kitchen know.we got to dining area at 10 it was all being tidied away so they took us through to the bar area which was a right mess with boxes and bags and keys and ppl in and out and they sat us at a freezing cold window . Breakfast was a full English that was only choice due to them being under refurbishment ( their website said work would be done the day prior) the breakfast came after waiting 35 mins but was absolutely lovely but due to us having to check out at 11 we didn't have time to eat it all was a mad rush for us to get bk upstairs and pack room up . Bar was closed and no restaurant which a lady told us day before we came , we went up rd to a lovely Indian restaurant instead. I paid 93 pound for a twin room with breakfast and hugely disappointed.

All good, great location for beach, parks & walk into town Easy & free on site parking. Very friendly & proffesional staff, a true assett to the hotel. Nice choice for breakfast. Lovely large room with a view to sea & park. Only comment would be that the bathroom would benefit with some tlc however it all worked and the bath towels were large & soft. Nice outside space, comfy dining room and amicable bar with tv.

First of all, the hotel doesn’t have a lift or air conditioning, which was already a bit disappointing. The stairs were dirty and didn’t feel well looked after, so my first impression wasn’t very positive. When you finally get up to your room, the corridor looks tired and outdated, as if it hasn’t been renovated in years. The room itself was a decent size, which was good, and the bed, although small, was actually quite comfortable. However, there’s no wardrobe — just a hanging rail with a few hangers, which really isn’t enough if you’re staying more than a night or two. The lack of A/C made the room feel stuffy as well, especially in warmer weather. The bathroom added to the dated feel: vinyl flooring, an old anti-slip mat that looked like it had seen better days, and only miniature bottles of shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner provided. Everything worked, but it didn’t feel fresh or welcoming. On the positive side, the cleaning staff did a good job tidying the room every day, which made the stay a bit more comfortable. And of course, the location of the Sea Hotel was absolutely perfect, which is probably its biggest advantage. Still, I really think the management should consider investing in proper renovations, because with such a great location, the facilities really don’t do the place justice.

Staff were friendly and helpful, parking was plentiful and breakfast was good. The hotel itself needs some work, it's looking tired in areas. The room itself was sizeable, however there was a bit of patchwork repair and an awful smell. The room was overly warm, very uncomfortable. Due to the constant noise from the beach bars, difficult to get any sleep with the windows open. It was however a convenient location for the beach and the amusement park.

The hotel was fine, shame there was no lift. Breakfast was hot and lots of choice and a bonus it was included in the price. I would use this hotel again as it’s situated near a park and the beach and entertainment.

Dirty windows,loose radiator,paper on ceiling peeling off. The staff were very though and the breakfast was nice too. Sadly i wont be staying there again.

All the reviews that say that Sea Hotel is old, dated, unclean ARE ALL FAKE. I am very difficult to please but I found Sea Hotel exceptionally clean, new, fresh, refurbished. Comfortable mattress. New towels and linen. New plush carpet in my room. Neutral colours, white and grey. Refurbished bathroom. No dust anywhere in my room. Brand new shiny kettle. Sea Hotel South Shields is the best Hotel in the UK. Engaging with the staff was very pleasant at check in and check out. They used my name in talking to me which was very nice. Well done Sea Hotel.

Booked a room for a Saturday night with it being a Saturday I did expect to have a disturbed sleep with people returning after afew drinks, I didn’t hear a peep from anywhere slept right through until the seagulls woke me up in the morning. The good - really nice spacious room with dressing table, full length mirror, free toiletries, I really appreciated the kettle and tea/coffee/milk in room, nice comfortable bed, really friendly staff, great location close to the sea and town centre, it does have everything you would need from a stay but in an honest review which I hope the hotel takes onboard rather than as criticism is I personally feel that a deep clean is needed, there was a clump of hairs behind the door in the bathroom obviously getting missed if they open the door to clean the floor and don’t go behind the door, cobwebs on the window and behind the radiator I don’t think has been touched since the building was built and no mention of the building work/scaffolding taking place outside my room during my stay which would of been nice to have been notified out of curtesy but overall I was happy with my stay it provided a comfortable stay for my onward travel plans and I would return in the future just a little tweak needed in my opinion

hotel located about 150m from the beach. we had a room oremuim suite with a view of the park on the other side of the street. after entering the hotel and the room we were greeted by an unpleasant smell of "toilet". there is no air conditioning in the room, there is only a fan. at first glance clean, but after looking closer you could see the shortcomings of the cleaning team. morning cleaning unfortunately poor. towels were not changed, they were left on the floor, and a dirty towel was hung on the bathtub instead of a new one. very tasty breakfasts in the form of a menu from the menu. great service, the lady in the restaurant and 2 young bartenders nice and smiling. in our opinion the hotel 7/10

The rooms a tidy. Crumbs behind the door and the bathroom had mould - the sealant needs replacing

Stayed in 206 … pros - big room … cons - very poor recent makeover. Just looked a bodge job. The worst was the old, blood stained and extremely uncomfortable mattress on the bed. We booked for two nights but only stayed for one.

Room was very small, no wardrobe for our clothes, was suitable for 1 night as we didn't stop in the room long. Excellent location

All in all a good place to stay in South Shields, the location is excellent for the beach, town centre and great curry houses on Ocean road. We would stay again and recommend.

We were first given a room with a small double bed (4ft) this is not what I would expect from a double room. Eventually, we were moved to a bigger room in the annex however this was very hot despite using a fan and air conditioning unit. The room had no windows to open to the outside, only to a conservatory-like corridor with two radiators that were on full blast and when the sun shone in it got even hotter. Credit to the receptionist though who brought us complimentary drinks for the inconvenience.

The Sea Hotel was lovely, very central in South Shields and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was ideal offering a good choice. I was unlucky in that the room next door had a guy with an annoying voice who talked loudly and kept me awake until 1.30am, showing no consideration for fellow hotel guests. Nothing to do with the hotel of course, just bad luck being next door to an idiot!

The hotel rooms were in bad condition. I asked for a refund and was told no, I then asked for a partial refund and I was told the manager would get in touch with me but 3 weeks on I haven’t had a response. I would not recommend this hotel.

Delightful and very helpful reception staff. Very nice room, clean with excellent facilities - it was a hot night and I was delighted to see there was a fan!! Close to all amenities. Would highly recommend.

Demi on reception was excellent, treated us well and showed interest in what we did during the day. Mark behind bar was friendly and courteous. The hotel is tired looking it looks better on the website but competitively priced. Having said that i would stay again because of the lovely staff

Unfortunately there was little food available at lunch despite advertising a bar menu. Door to room wouldn't close without slamming obviously a common problem as doors everywhere slamming. Very noisy with people shouting and children running around the corridor. Best thing was location on sea front.

Lovely place, very convenient location to the sightseeing places, beach etc and yet very accessible to shops, and restaurants.

A one night stay to visit family, the room was clean and comfortable with a view of the sea and fairground….. although at night it wasn’t noisy. We had a lovely breakfast included in the room rate too. If you’re looking for a nice hotel in a fantastic location this is the place to stay. Can highly recommended.

This is a repeat visit. Staff are all geordies profess to be kind helpful and funny. Just love the area. We drove 315 miles to get here and worth it. On a negative note dont do their Sunday lunch its awful. Go and have fish and chips at Colemans

Food wasn't good

The location is excellent with good access to beautiful beaches, parks and mamy rerstaurants to suit all tastes. Sadly the hotel had a few glitches. The shaver point did not work and the bedside light stopped working. We were not told that there was no hot food after 8 o clock. Saying that the information is on the website is not good eneough. There was no written information material in the hotel bedrooms about services etc. The kitchen ran out of smoked salmon even though it was on the breakfast menu - on a Bank Holiday weekend! Seemed to suggest a lack of forward planning. This was disappointing as otherwise the nreakfasts were excellent.

Very close to the beach and location, really nice staff and had a very good meal in the pub.

Located at both beaches & a perfect position for eating, drinking & entertainment. Lovely rooms (some slight touchups needed) & fabulous breakfast/evening meal facilities. Friendly & polite staff who are always happy to help.
