Very good location. Walking distance to restaurants and shops. Convenient underground parking (extra $15 a night). Room very modern and clean. Fast Wi-Fi. We had a room with a great view onto the harbor. Overall: very satisfied.

It was a great hotel, clean and efficient. The only issue with this property that I could find was oversized parking. They gave out more oversized parking permits than what it could hold and ended up parking further up the water front.

Great location. Directly on the downtown street with shops, pubs, restaurants. Every other street is a steep uphill to get to, but Water St is ideal. Plus the view from the rooms towards the harbour is nice. It's a working harbour, but you could still get a nice view, probably better than other hotels.Cafe had great coffee and breakfast (quiche and frittata). St. John's is much cooler during July than we are used to in Toronto, and has a lot more rain. Loved that the hotel supplied umbrellas at the front desk, but sometimes the wind made it too hard to keep them open. Rooms were quiet and comfortable. Very modern looking. Gym has a bike, treadmill, elliptical, free weights and a cable machine. Small, but adequate for our 5 day visit. Staff was friendly and accomodating.

We appreciate the simplicity of the room with it's modern features. The windows are deep and provide a great view of downtown. Clean linens and the bathroom was spotless. The front staff are friendly to deal with and certainly a reason why we continue to rebook.

I love returning to this Alt location, my only concern is this is the second time I checked in and found several hairs from someone else in the shower. The manager accomodated me last time but this time nothing was done. Makes me wonder about how thoroughly rooms are actually cleaned. Friendly and professional staff and hood energy with a great location and view of the Atlantic.

I think the staff are amazing. Very friendly. Very helpful. Very nicely appointed if small room, Great view of the harbour from the room. Could use a bar fridge. Cleanliness is not their strong point, however. Dirt can be found in the corners of the room, mold on the outside of the shower door, and dust inside the drawer under the bed.

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly at all hours of the day and night, even when we were checking out at three in the morning for our early flight. (They offered to book our taxi, too, without me even having to ask.) The room was clean, comfortable, and stylish. Absolutely no complaints.

Hotel was very clean and very modern. Beautiful view of Signal Hill from the back area while I had my morning coffee. My favourite part of the room was the shower as it was almost like a waterfall! The staff were amazing and helpful and I will be staying here on all future trips to St. Johns

We were impressed with the kind reception desk welcome (especially Bailey), the comfortable lounge area, the soundproofing in the room, the extremely comfy pillows and mattresses, the great view of the river, the recycling program, the proximity of walking to downtown shops and restaurants, and being able to borrow an umbrella at the desk. Negatives: not having hot water for a shower and/or washing hair on the morning we left. Also, the in-hotel restaurant Terre was way over our budget. We had a great meal we could afford at the 24-hour Celtic Heart Irish pub a 10-min walk down Water Street. Overall we did enjoy this Alt hotel and I’d reserve again as long as I knew the water temp in the shower would be tolerable.

When we arrived we were put in a room next to construction, we asked to be moved and were put on the noisy street side where there was endless motorcycles and cars screeching up and down Water Street. The staff at the Alt were great but the rooms that we were given were not great plus $15/day parking is mercenary.

Nicely appointed. Rooms were clean and comfortable. But I have two issues: first, very little work space in the bathroom. For two people ir was a struggle we ended up basically working out of our luggage. Second, the closet hanger rod was mounted facing front, attached to the back wall. So all clothes were basically stacked facing front. No excuse for this, there was plenty of room to mount normally (sideways). Drove us nuts.

We loved the Alt... the rooms are small but so cleverly laid out they are very functional. The Nespresso machine makes a great coffee, love the control panel that lets you control lights and blinds from bed... everything is really well thought out.

Loved everything about this property, design, cleanliness, location, view…but the most Amazing aspect is the staff! Every single staff member was kind, helpful, friendly, and made sure you had a great experience here. A few standout, namely Bailey who offered us a complimentary upgrade, suggested great restaurants when on-site options were not available, and booked a taxi, and always graciously. Lauren and David were also very helpful in rebooking an additional night’s stay and canceling taxi reservations when our flight out of St John’s was cancelled. Cleaning staff and dining staff also always very professional and courteous. Best hotel in every way!

I was not expecting that the the restaurant would be closed on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesday breakfast - ie all the time that we were there. The cafe was a very poor substitute for breakfast. The hotel was very convenient for the cruise ship dock, and a reasonable price. My biggest concern, and I would be grateful if Expedia would assist in this, was that the hotel staff put a 'hold' on my debit card of CA$250. I put no charges against the room, and when I left, they said they had released the 'hold'. However, when I got home, I found they had accidentally actually deducted CA$250 from my account. My emailing asking for this to be rectified has not even been acknowledged.

Nice hotel, good location, front counter staff was great but the management sucks. Stayed at this hotel a few times but won’t anymore. I had checked into a room for a like 2 hours and had to check out as my wife went into labour. I contacted the property to see if I could get maybe a partial refund, room was almost $350 or a small credit to stay again. Was brushed off, told the cancellation policy applies.

It's a working harbour, but you could still get a nice view, probably better than other hotels.Cafe had great coffee and breakfast (quiche and frittata). The room was comfortable. Not much of a view. The dining room was insanely expensive ($40 for breakfast, $6 for a single black drip coffee). Not many restaurants nearby so not overly convenient in bad weather which is 85% of the time on the harbour.
