TRYP by Wyndham Newark Downtown

Perfect for coming into/leaving from EWR airport. Free airport shuttle which was very much appreciated. Check-in was quick, friendly and easy and our room was spacious with great air conditioning. Bathroom is enormous!

The room was clean and spacious, everything was working. The airport shuttle is a plus and thanks to it we saved a lot of money. Pick up and drop off from P4 at EWR

Where to start? - Shuttle did not show from 4:50-5:50 despite running every 30 minutes. We even called 4 times and each time they said it was coming within 10-15 min... Complete waste of time.. - No breakfast included, and quite expensive if you get it there ($20/pers). - Rooms are quite noisy, both from the doors to other rooms and from the outside. I woke up at 2 & 3 from the backing up alarm of the shuttle bus...

Loved my stay at this property and will be returning for sure...very clean & spacious for my needs...stay was super nice & attentive...used the shuttle with no issues going to Newark Penn & the airport...will mosdef be back

The place is clean and near train station. The room we booked was not available but they offered a room upgrade which is much better than we originally booked. There is shuttle service to and from airport and to nearby train station. We had Great experience.

Like many we stayed here because we had an early flight out of Newark airport. Hotel was very nice and restaurant was perfect for our overnight stay. However the front desk provided incorrect information about shuttle to airport. Not to mention that the driver was reckless in his driving. They also take you to shuttle drop off so you need to take air bus to terminals. And if leaving from terminal A it’s then a bus ride. So leave yourself plenty of time if you’re taking an early flight or uber!

Hotel was clean and quiet despite being in the center of the city. Very accessible walking or using public transport. Hotel shuttle could be a little more reliable, but with the hotel a shirt walk to Penn Station it wasn't a big deal. We didn't have a chance to eat at the restaurant or bar, but other travelers raved about it. The 25% extra and parking fees could have been a little more clear. Overall, a great experience and will stay again.

They should tell ppl staying at Tryp that the shuttle bus says Robert Treat Hotel, I missed the shuttle because I wasn’t aware and was waiting in the cold with my daughter at night.

I’ve stayed at this hotel several times a year over the past two years, so this wasn’t my first visit. Unfortunately, my recent stay started off on the wrong foot. My family and I waited at the airport for 1 hour and 48 minutes for the shuttle despite being told it runs every 30 minutes. The shuttle driver later claimed to hotel management that she had made two trips to the airport during that time, which simply wasn’t true. This lack of honesty was frustrating and set a disappointing tone for the visit. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the room was—noticeably cleaner than during my previous stays. However, there were still some issues: I saw crawling insects on an ottoman in the hallway, and the ice machines on my floor and several others were completely turned off, which was inconvenient. On a positive note, I didn’t experience any safety concerns this time, which I’ve encountered in the past such as men attempting to enter my room or offering drugs. It did feel like the property might be under new management, which is encouraging. I like the hotel’s location but as a woman who frequently travels alone and relies heavily on shuttle service and a secure environment, safety and reliability are my top priorities. Unfortunately, something problematic seems to happen during nearly every stay here, while I’ve had near-perfect experiences at other Newark-area hotels. Hopefully this feedback is taken seriously & attention is given to guest safety/security.

The room was large and a large comfy bed but all the large towels had stains on them so had to use the small ones. Room rates very expensive, especially excluding breakfast. Constant noise from fans but slightly drowned out by earplugs. Reception staff friendly.

Great location, clean room and hotel

First room had tiny jumping bugs on pillows and second room had stained sheets. Hotel rooms need updating and better cleaning standards to provide stain free sheets and bug free rooms. Sign in lobby said Breakfast/Restaurant opens at 6:30am, however at 6:30am totally closed and no staff even setting up. Front desk/managers did not even apologize for inconvenience of incorrect signage nor did they address or care about my report of bugs in room 201. They just brushed off issues and that is why hotel is not good. Would never recommend anyone staying here. Only reason why I gave it 2 stars is because I did feel safe in hotel and bathroom was updated. Only reason I gave staff 3 stars is because one of the front desk staff that was working at night during check in was professional and apologetic for bugs in first room.

The room was exceptionally clean. The Internet and wifi was not great at all. Could not connect my laptop to do my work. They did charge way more for parking than it said when I signed up for the room which I did not think was fare. Overall it wasn’t a bad stay just more money than expected. The restaurant in the hotel was delicious but extremely expensive. We didn’t utilize the breakfast buffet so cannot say if it would be worth what you would have to pay for it but there was a deli next to the hotel to the right that was amazing. The gym was ok had several pieces of equipment and was pretty quiet overall.

I stayed for one night during a heatwave and the A/C was super reliable. Wish the room had a microwave, or at least one in a common room. The location was perfect, super close to Penn Station and the Prudential Center. The area was a little iffy, and full of construction but nevertheless I had a pretty good stay. I did notice multiple hairs and stains on the towels though. The room was neat, but not clean. And I had a window that didn’t close.

I called the front desk because there were silverfish in the room the night I got there. They told me they weren’t sure what to do about it and didn’t know when someone who does know would be available. Caulking in the bathroom by the shower door had black mold under it.

The room was clean n fresh. Bathroom clean. Convenient to the path train. 8-9 mins walk.

Nice room, good location, and a decent price. No mini fridge was kind of a bummer... no place to put leftovers from eating out. Bed was comfortable; shower was hot, with good pressure; good security (needed to use the room key to operate the elevator).

Our room was HUGE! Nice comfortable king size bed. Bathroom was clean & hot water was very hot. We needed to do laundry & were told that we could use the facility in the hotel around the corner. Convenient! Washer & dryer took credit card which was great. Both machine took 60min each, though I took clothes out from dryer around 30min & perfectly dry. Shuttle bus to/from EWR was super convenient.

Please keep in mind this was our experience. The shuttles were NEVER on time. We had to call front desk multiple times to check/request the shuttle when it was supposed to be at the locations every 30-60 minutes. The staff were polite enough, but not friendly. The beds were AWFUL. The moment you laid down, they would sink in so incredibly much it was impossible to be comfortable. And finally, one time I was sitting down at the front desk waiting room (waiting for yet another late shuttle) and there were spiders in the couch!

Probably my favourite part was how spacious it was and the bathroom looks so modern and clean, I loved it! I’ve even booked it again for a future event! Totally recommend

Rooms are spacious enough for central Newark and the option to add a roll-out bed for free makes this an economical option for groups attending an event at the prudential center. The staff are friendly and helpful, but it was impossible to get someone on the phone prior to my arrival to answer questions about the property. I appreciated the ability to walk to and from the prudential center in 10 minimutes, but you get a free breakfast and more bang for your buck if you’re willing to travel a bit further, so I left after two nights. This property might be great for groups traveling to prudential center who share the room before/after an event, but less economical for couples or solo travelers.

Excellent service

Every staff member acted like we were an inconvenience. I first messaged via Hotels.com to arrange airport pickup (as instructed) but got no reply. After calling several times, I was told vaguely that the shuttle comes every half hour with no directions. From the airport, I called again since the pickup spot wasn’t marked; that rep was a bit more helpful but still curt. After waiting over 30 minutes, I called once more and was told they’d “call the driver.” He eventually came and was nice, though his driving felt unsafe. At check-in, the clerk barely looked at me, didn’t verify ID, and acted like I was interrupting her. The room was fine—clean enough, though it had an odd smell. The mattress was passable, but if you slept near the edge you’d slide off. The shower was decent. The key card said the restaurant was open until 11pm, but when we arrived at 10:15, employees shut off the lights and told us they’d closed at 9:30. Breakfast was worse. We waited with no guidance until we asked if we should seat ourselves. The waiter never checked on us, bused a dirty table, or refilled water—we had to approach him each time. He spent most of the time talking at the bar and watching his phone. The food was overpriced and mediocre. Checkout was equally dismissive. The only positives: the location near our event and our return shuttle driver, who was very pleasant and even dropped us right at the terminal—he gets five stars. Otherwise, service was consistently rude and indifferent.

The cleaning staff was wonderful and efficient. The receptionists were far from professional and seemed like they wanted to be someplace else. We were told that the free shuttle service to the airport left every half hour. When we went to the lobby, we asked if we needed to sign up for the 8:30am shuttle. We were told that next shuttle was 9am. When we said we were told every half hour the receptionist replied “we only have 1 driver show up today so it’s every hour”. Like it was our fault or something.

Front desk staff is always very helpful. Hotel lobby entertainment and restaurant are a delight after long day of work.

We stayed 1 night at this hotel during a flight layover. Called in advance of booking to inquire about shuttle service from Newark airport. Assured that the shuttle ran 24 hrs and to call hotel upon arrival. Called the hotel and got hung up on repeatedly. When we finally got in contact staff were incredibly rude, told us the wait time for shuttle was 1 hr. We decided to take an Uber. At check-in, same rude indifferent and unprofessional service. Terrible service continued to checkout. Sad because the hotel itself has been renovated but it's time to invest in actually delivering service. Had a chat outside with another guest while waiting for our Uber in departure. Other guests has the same gripe with unfriendly and rude staff. Not sure what's happening with this hotel but I'd strongly recommend a management change. It doesn't take much to answer the phone or say thank you or even make eye contact

The room and bed were very nice and clean. I had a Zoom meeting close to checkout time and the front desk was so understanding and accommodating. I had dinner and lunch at the hotel, tasty food, perfect portions and fantastic staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Classic gemstone in the Central Business District of Newark…check it out…a lot going on downtown.

Great hotel, cool restaurant but front desk staff were very unprofessional and rude. Not a single smile. When I came up checking in they passed me down through 3 people sitting behind the desk. Parking isn't free, neither is breakfast just FYI.

The front desk staff was very rude. We asked for a two queen bed upgrade, which they did not have. They also made us check out of our room and check back into it after a few hours because we had made separate reservations and added a night later.

Chose to stay here for one night as I had a good experience during my previous stay. All the staff I encountered were friendly and professional. Special shout out to Roberto for his kindness and customer service. I had arrived early in the morning, and though I wasn't expecting my room to be ready, he helped to expedite the turnaround of the room by housekeeping which led my room to be available a couple of hours later. The room was large and clean. The bed was soft and comfy. Finally, location of the hotel is convenient. Wholefoods is closeby, as well as a number of small eateries. If you're looking for a good Japanese place, check out Sakura Japan - awesome rolls!

Nice hotel, clean room with stone floor. Decent gym. Quiet at night. Restaurant in the hotel, which I didn't try. Whole foods within walking distance. Easy walk to the Newark Penn Station. Newark is not very nice, but also not outright unsafe. Overall, good value for a commute to New York.

Close to the prudential centre and transit station. Not very welcoming around outside after dark.

Hotel is clean, safe and very convenient if you are attending an event at the Prudential Center. The Prudential center is within walking distance. Moreover, if you want to take a day trip to Manhattan, the PATH train station is nearby as well. The hotel provided basic amenities in the bathroom, such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The hotel could definitely use some maintenance, however, at the end of the day, it gets the job done. If I was to attend another event at the Prudential center, I would stay there again.

Restaurant on site is bad. They were not open for breakfast. The servers are rude.

The TRYP was a great stay. The only challenges I had was the heat in the bathroom which left the bathroom cold in the winter months. Dutch's was a good place to enjoy food. We recommend chicken tacos, beef sliders, and sweet potato fries.

Customer service was good. The restaurant was fantastic. We had amazing food there however, when we went down in the morning to eat breakfast, there was no breakfast. The people didn’t show up when you sign up for breakfast. You shouldn’t be asked to go to Starbucks when you paid for breakfast But overall it was a great day.

Was pleasantly surprised with the updates and how modern the hotel was. The restaurant in the hotel was DELICIOUS!! Would definitely stay here again.

Description includes free breakfast buffet but it was $20 and size of bed and room description was also extremely misleading bed was full size instead of queen, front desk personnel was also not very helpful and was talking on their personal phone while we tried to check in, overall fine for an overnight stay but will not be returning

On the elevator floor #4 button was damaged Took two atempts to register And tha down button was missing floor4 Arrived at Dutch breakfast and some items were emptied or finish like bacon and bread for a buffet at 7:30.am did not good good with my nephew an d wife Otherwise the front desk staff was great
