Exceptional experience, as always! We have been to this hotel 5 times because every time they prove their 5* rating is not just about their amazing hotel, but their staff is outstanding. From arriva to departure, we feel wecomed, and cared for. Have never been in a hotel that does everything so well. AND every year they seem to make the hotel better! This year they opened an expanded spa: 4 types of saunas, indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, pool-side bar/restaurant, beautiful indoor & outoor lounging areas. This on top of the infinity pool that first seduced us to book here: hanging out over the med looking down the Portofino Peninsula in a warm pool in winter? OMG! Paradise. Breakfast is the best. Smoked salmon, fresh fruit, great assortment of cheeses, wonderful baked goods, eggs cooked to order (as well as chafing dishes of fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage) prosecco, juices, coffee made to order. All overlooking the Med and the harbor of Rapallo. The desk staff, bell hops, house keeping, dining staff, spa staff - every single person seems happy in their work and makes you feel welcomed, pampered. We have raved about this hotel for years: and we are already thinking about when we will go back. We spend 50-75 nights a year in hotels of many types in many parts of the world: this is our favorite. Don't hesitate!

This hotel is a beautiful property. The lobby was 5 Star with beautiful original paintings. The outdoor pool and hot tub provided a great view of the harbor. Unfortunately, the pool area closed at 6:00 pm. I was very disappointed after returning from a long day of walking and was looking forward to a soak befor dinner.

You know those dream elegant hotels you see in movies always wishing that you’d stay at one like that. Well this hotel is just that, the best customer service we’ve experienced. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, the hotel was very clean and well put together, the food was amazing and the views were one of a kind. 5 stars is not enough to express how good this hotel is as we are already planning our second stay there.

Honesty I think this property deserves 3 stars maximum, every single thing is super dated , we booked 2 rooms and requested one with twin beds , it didn’t happen , the whole place stunk like moth balls and humidity , in our room the smell was so bad it gave me an asthma attack, my daughters sheets had a hair on them …. The breakfast buffet was sub par and not to mention the bathroom amenities.. they do have a beautiful view and nice staff I would not recommend for the money at all . Honestly

Lovely hotel in good location. Service excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was nice but needs updating. Mixer tap on shower did not work properly so difficult to get hot water. Picture missing from wall with screws still in wall. A strip of decorative beading missing from wall. An empty beer bottle filled with cigarette butts left by a previous guest remained on our balcony throughout our stay. Hotel wifi could not be accessed from bedroom but was fine in public areas . But we loved the hotel and location and would return.

The reason I gave the hotel 4 stars is because on more than one occasion our bath towels were stained. That should not be an issue at a 5 star hotel. The service was excellent as well as the staff. If I could do 41/2 stars I would.

Lovely hotel, parking available. Staff was friendly. The room was a little dated, the toiletries looked like they had been out and not freshened up from the last guest. The terrace was not wiped down outside my room. The beach club was nice.

This place is great. The facility and the staff are wonderful. The only complaint I have is that they allow dogs and I stepped in dog poop on their elevator! Yes, kind of funny but is that what one expects from a five star hotel? We would book this hotel again and overall it still got a five star review. Good buffet breakfast was also nice!

We really enjoyed our stay at the excelsior palace. Beautiful hotel. Staff were so friendly and helpful and always on hand. We arrived and were showed to our rooms with a gift waiting for us on arrival. Breakfast was great aswell. I wouldn’t say the rooms were soundproof. We could hear our neighbour on the phone and the people above but thankfully I already were ear plugs at night. The only thing I would suggest changing would be the paper cups in the room with the kettle. For a 5 star hotel I would really expect ceramic mugs. we would definitely reccomend staying here and would stay again.

Noise as the bar is close to the bedrooms. Very hard to get to the city from and to the hotel as we have to walk up and down a lot. No shuttle service for the hotel gate to the reception. Breakfast bar is poor for a 5 hotel start and to the cost. Cheap Nescafé in the room not even a proper coffee maker. Lights in the balcony turn off at 2:30am which is too late. No proper noise policy for guests to respect.

We had a balcony room with direct sea views to Portofino, just stunning. The decor was comfortable and the vibe was old style Italian glamour. We used the hotel as our base and walked each day to the train station for day trips to all the beautiful local areas inc Cinque Terre. The bar and restaurants were perfect, filled with glamourous character and serving delicious food. All very romantic!

Smart hotel in lovely position above the bay. Great service and enormous comfortable room and bathroom. Impressed that check-in staff knew my name by sight when I checked out. About ten minutes walk to the centre of Rapallo. Didn’t eat a main meal in the restaurant. Breakfast had a good choice but wasn’t super special.

The most amazing and charming hotel we stayed in Italy! It is called a Palace for a reason. The staff was amazing, Angello was, as his name, an angel! He helped us plan our stay and recommended restaurants! If you like to swim, use this hotel's access! Yes, there is no beach but between the infinity pools and the water access, it is an absolute pleasure! We will be back and for longer!

From start to finish our stay at the Excelsior Palace was incredible. The property is beautiful. The staff is friendly, helpful and welcoming, and all the amenities are incredible. The breakfast was wonderful and every detail of our stay was perfect. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone I know and hope that we are lucky enough to come back one day.

Note to future guests: although the name of the hotel says Portofino Coast, this is no where near Portofino. It is a 20 min car ride to Portofino, and if you go by taxi, the flat rate is €52 EACH WAY!

Hotel is in a beautiful location with an incredible view. Service is great. Location is on a hill overlooking ocean and the city! Free buffet breakfast and easy 10 min walk to town ans 15 min walk to train station. Best location to take train to Cinque Terre.

Feb 2023, 2024, 2025 we stayed for a couple nights at the Excelsior Palace and every time has been a great experience. Rooms are lovely, very comfortable, great amenities (we've been in 3 classifications: all were great). The breakfast buffet is wonderful: lots of choice including made to order items. The view from the dining room is gorgeous. The location is spectacular with views over the Med, infinity pools that hang out over the sea are wonderful - warm & there are both pool-side and indoor showers, changing rooms, a gym, etc.. LOVE that it's 10 minute walk into the heart of Rapallo 10 minute walk to beach restos in San Michele 25-30 min walk to Santa Margherita Bus stops at the foot of the hotel which runs from Santa Margherita train station to the Rapallo train station so if you overdo it, easy to hop on!

It's my second time here and i will come back for sure, the Concierge/Front Desk Team is amazing, the lay-out of the hotel is unbeatable, the reservation team always took a note of my requqests and the beach is the best in the region (and I tried every 5 star of the Portofino area). The F&B services are in quite a wild contrast with the rest. Between 3-7PM you have snack menus in the bars, but I strongly recommend to stay away. What they serve under "Croq Monsieur" has absolutely nothing to do with what croq monsjeur means, it is just a very lousy cheese toast, that I would expect from a 2 star american motel, not from a 5 star european hotel. What they serve as "Pizzetta"...is an absolute insult to Italy as a culture and country (they actually serve chips even on the side with it). I also tried the Lido's real signature pizza before 3PM, and I was less than impressed, overburnt on the sides but undercooked in the middle...shocking quality at a place like this. (their other items, maybe the seafood might be OK there..I dont know). I hate to say bad things about a place that I love. I just wanted to be honest, a big F&B revision would be super beneficial to this place. Until then, I am more than happy to enjoy the rest, a truly beautiful place, lush garden, clean sea, magical atmosphere and very friendly, well trained staff. Grazie Mille.

this property was amazing …water access, gym , easy access to cinque Terra…. great reastaurants and no crowds in rapallo …. and play tennis no english needed ! the breakfast was the big disappointment! we stayed at all 5 stars in Rome, Florence, Asissi and rapallo… all had amazing breakfast except this hotel ….its older , but no excuse to be the best … you must look what other hotels serve …. canned fruit is not acceptable
