Great hotel especially if you have a dog🐶We were able to sit in the bar area to eat and the food presented was very good. The staff could not do enough to help and were extremely pleasant. The bedrooms were very clean and comfortable. The hotel,itself, was a little tired and could do with a general makeover but overall excellent stay for 3 nights and we will be returning

A brand new feel to the place with amazing staff, who couldn’t do enough for us and our fur baby. Excellent food that catered for all dietary requirements ( ie carnivore and vegan!) Gorgeous dog bed, bowls and treats provided for Winnie. Lovely location for a walk to a natural gem of a beach! We will be back. Thank you Dunes .

Lovely chill couple of days Room large quiet comfortable and warm and recently refurbished Staff helpful and friendly Very dog friendly Location a bit remote but ideal for peace and quiet and walking and 1/2 mile from The Dunes(great for our 2 dogs) Food was great Gala night on New Year superb value with a 3 course meal Casino and a singer with music for dancing I would recommend this Hotel

Restaurant food fantastic, service poor as one young guy serving overworked. Room bed lining was dirty ! Mattress cover not covering mattress properly and damaged (reception sorted quickly though and gave 1 free breakfast). Bedroom lovely, bathroom very tatty and worn. Hotel was very quiet. Would still stay again though.

Sadly the rules do not allow the sharing of a direct experience, which is odd really as that's what you review.... nevertheless this hotel is very much lacking ~ trained competent polite respectful staff including management, any kind of atmosphere, and incredibly lacking in headspace in the 2nd floor rooms where half the ceiling slopes. There is also no lift to the second floor so if you need one and choose to stay here despite the many similar experiences shared, make sure you ask at booking for an appropriate room. Seriously think twice before booking this hotel, it needs a lot of work to improve.

Great hotel for a weekend get away with hubby and friends! The hotel was beautiful. Food was delicious. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Big shout out to the lovely on reception who went out of her way to sort us taxi's, when we were struggling. Thank you very much!! Will definitely be returning.

I arrived on a motorcycle with the large carpark to choose from and found a little out of view corner to leave the bike over night and because the hotel appears isolated i wasn't bother about security too much. One enters the hotel through two automatic sliding doors which is a bonus when carrying bags and crash helmets. The first door opens in to a cosy vestibule with seating around a rather modern teardrop shaped lig burner that appears to drip from the ceiling, it would be a wonderful place to sit on cold evening. After signing in by friendly welcoming staff I found my room negotiating my way up the stairs and along the deep pile carpeted corridor to my room.

The room did not have adequate lighting to do work, when I brought this to the attention of the staff as the light was not operational, they just took the bulb out and did not replace it, the clock was not working so one I pointed it out they just removed the clock and didn’t replace it, my room on first night of three could not be cleaned as I did not have a tag for the door handle - not enough door tags for the number of room

All in all this has been a frustrating stay and has left a sour taste in my mouth and not what I expected from The Dunes hotel – a room in a poor state of repair , three times having to ask for shower gel , cleaning staff ignoring the "Please clean my room " sign on my door twice : meaning my room was only cleaned once in 3 days / 4 nights and not replacing tea / coffee supplies. For £90+ a night I expect a basic level of maintenance , cleanliness and at least shower gel and tea and coffee – I did not receive this or a decent level of service from your housekeeping department.

The property was clean, in a lovely location and the staff welcoming, If I had to comment it would be that there was no hand towels and only 1 drinking glass in the room and the rooms were not sound proof in any way. Saying that we did enjoy our stay, it provided a perfect base for us.

Our stay was quiet and the property clean. We had the fortune to be looked after by Charlette who is a huge talent and benefit to the hotel. Unfortunately the breakfast were quite poor and the scrambled eggs grey and smelly. We also requested a room clean and had the sign out in the door but it want done. Good quiet location but I probably wouldn’t stay there again.

The location was great - quiet and out of the way but easily access to local attractions. I did find the room a bit warm on arrival and had to immediately turn off the radiators and open the windows. Also, the bed was a bit too hard and uncomfortable for me but that’s personal taste. The wash basin in the bathroom was cracked and I could have done with a hand rail to get in and out of the bath but that was my own fault for not requesting an accessible room.

My room faced away from the coastal view. Not a big deal, but i would have preferred to have been able to see the sum setting over the river Duddon estuary rather than a view of a nearby quarry.

Ideal location, good views and some nice walks...bedroom ok, on seocnd floor but bed was very uncomfortable. Minimal sleep.. staff, when asked about it, knew the beds uncomfortable. Good price in those in town twoce price if not more.

2 night stay here near the Lake District with my pregnant wife as we drive back from Scotland offered us the following: Bits on the floor at arrival, a very warm room I believe the radiators were on as they felt warm so turned to 0, an unforgiving and rock hard bed and the ability to hear everything the other guests were doing until 2 am including watching tv, talking, turning lights on and off and walking around and to top it off there was an obscenely bright light outside our window which made it so difficult to sleep, of course there was only one member of staff we found in the morning and he was busy with breakfast so we just left as we especially my pregnant wife were never going to attempt another dreadful night there. The staff we did encounter were very pleasant and helpful and we did have a great meal in the evening. Awaiting to see if I get a response from the hotel before I contact hotels.com.

Everything was fine with my stay apart from the service in the restaurant the first night. I was really hungry but had to wait ages for my meal. I can only think that they were under-staffed. It was a shame, because the food was nice enough when it came.

Great hotel, we had amazing time with our sausage dog , very friendly staff! Great food, good location, clean room and bathroom, fantastic breakfast, matteracce a bit hard and bed quite small, tv needs upgrade we are wearing glasses couldn’t see properly tv too small! Shaun and Brown hair receptionist working super hard and long hours they should get some bonus for great customer service! Good value for money! Highly recommended, definitely come back!

Everything was good until we went down for breakfast. We didn't have much choice (although we went down about 9 am). They didn't have enough staff. Poor lady had to run around to top up the juice or the eggs.

After signing in by friendly welcoming staff I found my room negotiating my way up the stairs and along the deep pile carpeted corridor to my room.
I arrived on a motorcycle with the large carpark to choose from and found a little out of view corner to leave the bike over night and because the hotel appears isolated i wasn't bother about security too much. One enters the hotel through two automatic sliding doors which is a bonus when carrying bags and crash helmets. The location was great - quiet and out of the way but easily access to local attractions. I did find the room a bit warm on arrival and had to immediately turn off the radiators and open the windows. Also, the bed was a bit too hard and uncomfortable for me but that’s personal taste. The wash basin in the bathroom was cracked and I could have done with a hand rail to get in and out of the bath but that was my own fault for not requesting an accessible room.

It’s like returning home when we stay at The Dunes. Beautiful hotel with just the friendliest staff and at an affordable price. It’s a Pit stop for us this time, as our main holiday is in Northumberland but usually we would enjoy the little walk down the road to the exquisite national trust currently under threat beach - Roanhead.

Attended for a wedding was lovely location and convenient for travel. Only issues with room was location was noisy-close to reception, and no blinds at windows so had to keep curtains closed for privacy- staff access

Ideal location, good views and some nice walks...bedroom ok, on seocnd floor but bed was very uncomfortable. Minimal sleep.. staff, when asked about it, knew the beds uncomfortable. Good price in those in town twoce price if not more.

Couldnt fault the staff and friendliness, dissapointed in price of breakfast and in particular the continental which consisted of just cereal, yoghurt bits of fruit and juice and std bread for toast, no sign of cheese or meats which i thought was common. Very minimal shower and hair products in room, no glass in bathroom whether plastic or not, also didnt realise how isolated the hotel was and unable to walk into centre due to dual carriageways.

Everything was fine with my stay apart from the service in the restaurant the first night. I was really hungry but had to wait ages for my meal. I can only think that they were under-staffed. It was a shame, because the food was nice enough when it came.

Restaurant food fantastic, service poor as one young guy serving overworked. Room bed lining was dirty ! Mattress cover not covering mattress properly and damaged (reception sorted quickly though and gave 1 free breakfast). Bedroom lovely, bathroom very tatty and worn. Hotel was very quiet. Would still stay again though.

Everything was good until we went down for breakfast. We didn't have much choice (although we went down about 9 am). They didn't have enough staff. Poor lady had to run around to top up the juice or the eggs.
