Exeter Hotel

Such a lovely hotel. It is located at the end of downtown, but definitely walkable to all touristic places around downtown. Staffs are very kind, facility is super clean, amenities are so good, and food options at this hotel is phenomenal. Free parking lot is only 3-4 minutes away on foot. I will definitely come back here.

Staff was awesome. Not fake nice. Just competent, relaxed, and helpful. Breakfast was very solid. Skyr, good bread, real fuel before going out to freeze your face off. Rooms were clean, modern, efficient. Nothing excessive, just well done. There’s a small but functional gym and a sauna, which honestly hits after a long day in Icelandic wind. You do not need a commercial gym. You need somewhere to move a little and then sweat. And the real sleeper perk is Deig in the lobby. Elite bakery. It sells out for a reason. If you see something you want, commit early. Would absolutely stay there again. Perfect basecamp for cold-weather adventures.

This hotel was in a great location, easily accessible by bus, has very comfortable and quiet rooms and friendly and very helpful staff. The donut/bagel bakery at the entrance is a huge plus, as well! Has a lovely sauna. Highly recommend this as a place to stay in downtown Reykjavik!

We had such a wonderful experience with the Exeter. The staff was incredibly helpful, nice and gracious, before and during our trip. Excellent communication. They went above and beyond. One of the front desk staff members emailed me a hike & hot spring day trip which we did. It was amazing, albeit VERY difficult - not for the faint of heart. The breakfast was good & plentiful. The gym is small and limited but sufficed. Pretty warm down there.

There is parking in their garage for a fee but honestly the street parking around the area is really easy and convenient. The hotel itself was excellent location, easy access to the routes necessary to explore ring road and the golden circle. Sauna access was super and included breakfast was a win.

This boutique feeling hotel is the perfect mix of modern, industrial, and lux, with an eclectic artistic twist. It’s a whole vibe! From the moment we approached the checkin desk we were greeted by staff that went above and beyond to accommodate us. During our 6 nights there, Thomas, Stephan, and Yusuf (forgive me if I have spelled any names wrong) were always friendly, and seemed genuine, which made for a comfortable environment. They assisted us with making tour and transportation reservations and recommendations to just about anything we inquired about. Economy room -very clean, with balcony. Walk-in shower with a rainfall shower head. Heated towel rack and floor. Equipped with full size shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. I recommend bringing thicker conditioner if your used to that. We had two twin beds. The beds and bedding were incredibly comfortable and the perfect thing to cozy up too at the end of the day. I read several reviews commenting that there were not enough hot breakfast options. My opinion is that I would take this breakfast over any unhealthy American continental breakfast there is. There were many fresh food options and we looked forward to breakfast every morning. There are outdoor patios throughout the property. I did not use the gym or sauna but they looked clean and nice. The location was perfect. Mountain view as soon as you step out front, if your room doesn’t have one already. Restaurant, bar, bakery, live music. Will definitely return!

Great hotel with a sauna which came in handy after a cold day exploring Reykjavik

The hotel was absolutely fantastic and the staff could not have been better! Being able to get one of the Eight parking places truly was a lifesaver during our 9 day stay. We will be back!

Loved our two night stay at Exeter Hotel! We were able to park our small camper van in the garage, but it’s very narrow in there. There’s free parking nearby. Breakfast was excellent! I highly recommend cured salmon and rye bread! Staff was very helpful. Our room was very nice and stylish with gorgeous view of marina and Harpa. My husband really enjoyed the sauna. We would definitely stay again!

Clean and convenient, quiet. No AC in the hotel. Parking garage underneath the hotel, has 9 parking spots for small cars.

Frist night we we given room 104 (I think). It was not very clean and people were walking around at our level directly outside our window, smoking and talking and listening to music. Noisy trash barrel pick up at 5am. Then the worst... about 1am fish frying smell filled the room. Almost unbearable. We got another room on the 4th floor next day which was fine. BUT...YOU GAVE US NO DAILY CLEANING, TRASH CAN EMPTYING, BED MAKING...NOTHING....ABSOLUTELY NO HOUSEKEEPING FOR 5 DAYS! WE HAD TO GO GET COFFEE, CLEAN GLASSES, TP, TISSUES. VERY POOR HOUSEKEEPING ...ACTUALLY NONE!

Super clean and well equipped hotel We had a standard king room & it was efficiently laid out with everything we needed. We were even able to get a fan at the front desk since it was warmer than usual. The staff was so sweet & very helpful! The cleaning crew was friendly and efficient too. The on-sight cafe & restaurant were amazing quality & craveable with outstanding service.

Beds were great, breakfast was great, staff great. In the stairwells and hallways there was an awful smell all the time- maybe from the kitchen? It was awful and all my clothes stink like it now. Otherwise- great place! Such a good vibe and so convenient having Le Kock and donuts downstairs!

Excellent modern hotel that was very clean. I had a 5th floor room which was very quiet. Staff was very friendly and helped me book bus transport to the airport. The restaurant and bakery were very good. It was very convenient....just a 5-10 minute walk to the main shopping district, and it was right across the street from Bus Stop 4, a pick up spot for the airport and tour buses. I would definitely stay here again.

Staff was great. Location was great. Room and common areas were spotless.

The room smelled like pizza. I realize you can’t stop someone from eating pizza in the room. But do extra cleaning to get the smell out. We smelled pizza the whole time we were there thought someone hid a piece somewhere in the room. Not up to the standard we are usually met with at the Exeter. Left a little disappointed.

My wife and I enjoyed staying at the Exeter Hotel. The property was very clean, well maintained, and located in a close proximity to the downtown area of Reykjavik (which is great for those who prefer walking around). We did have two complaints, the first being that our room got very hot. We ended up leaving our window open at all hours in order to prevent things from becoming uncomfortably warm (there was no temperature control setting in the room). Secondly, it was really noisy outside the hotel at night. We had a challenging time falling (and staying) asleep during our final night as cars outside were constantly revving their engines and/or blasting music whose base could be easily heard from within the room (even after we closed the window, which in turn made the room uncomfortably warm!). All in all - we would recommend staying here (but try to get a room on the backside of the hotel away from the noise).

The room lighting is not great, it is not easy to see unless you have half a dozen little desk lamps on. The sight angle for the television makes it difficult to view.

The staff is friendly and helpful. I have a feeling that the breakfast there is probably one of the better ones in compared with other hotels in the city. However, our room is right next to the street. There's not much privacy if you don't close the blinds. Also, the room is way too dark.

Great location, comfy bed, and friendly staff. The only hitch for us was that we came during the summer, and the room was uncomfortably warm, even with all the windows open. We asked the staff for an electric fan, which made all the difference.

Great bakery and bar as part of the property. Excellent breakfast too. The room we had was extremely dark and not well ventilated. We asked for a fan, which helped, but the room wasn't comfortable because of the lack of ventilation. The hotel is in a good location and the staff are helpful, but I wouldn't stay here again, unless I could be sure I'd get a room with adequate ventilation and light.

We had a good experience overall for our 3 night stay with some caveats. Staff were excellent. Room was clean and everything worked well. Rooms on the small side though as was the bathroom. Access areas to the old building where our room was were not good. Hallways and stairs had no ventilation and were quite smelly with old food smell every time we used them. Cold buffet Breakfast was good but cooked breakfast was dull and towards end of breakfast period when we arrived very little left and was lukewarm at best. I think if breakfast is served until 10 am then all food should be available and fresh until then. This is an expensive hotel and all aspects should justify the hefty price

We really liked the location and convenience of the hotel. The bed and services were great. The breakfast was good and offered varied options. The room was very dark, tho, and quite warm at night. When we opened the window, it was too noisy to sleep at night, however.

Fabulous junior suite, huge, beautiful, well- equipped with everything you need or want. Lovely big balcony, can't say enough about the room. And the STAFF, who were delightful: Alena, Margaret, and the wonderful AnaMaria, who went above and beyond to find parking for us. Highly recommended.

Sauna good and clean, otherwise facilities fairly basic (although didn’t use the gym). Room was quite small but had the essentials. Had more of a hostel feel than boutique hotel.

We had a lovely time at the Exeter in Reykjavik. The staff is beyond friendly and helpful. Front desk staff, Alena and Van Hai were the best! They addressed little issues promptly and with a smile. They were so joyful, and we appreciated their patience with our questions. I would recommend that you were rooms that aren’t on the first floor though. Iceland has incredible geothermal capabilities. In certain instances, it warms things. During the winter, it might be great to have this extra heat. We were there in August. While outside temps were in the 50’s, our room was a bit toasty. Alena and Van Hai offered another room, one floor up. But we departed the next day and opted to stay in our 1st floor location. There was a fan that helped enormously. Lastly, Exeter has a convenient restaurant and bar. Food and ambiance were top-notch! Huge thanks to Exeter staff (Chris included)!

The staff was pleasant, kind, friendly and welcoming, the hotel was clean and well-kept (as was the room), the restaurant was delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my time at Exeter Hotel. I loved how walkable everything was from the hotel. Annamaria, Justina, and Nadir were particularly helpful at the front desk, always answering any questions we had with great detail and providing us great recommendations for some great food in Reykjavik. I would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to Iceland!

Staff were extremely helpful and very kind. Breakfast was wonderful. Bedding was heavenly, loved the pillows. Just across the street from bus stop # 4 We would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone.

What an amazing staff. I mean, just incredible. They went above and beyond on so many occasions including finding one my AirPods which took a massive team effort over many days. Super impressed. Very friendly. Room was great. Extended my stay 4 times over 2.5 weeks because everyone was so great and it was a really comfortable stay. Highly, highly recommend.

The hotel is in a great area at the harbor and across from a bus stop/pick up point for tours and the airport bus. The property had several great restaurants/bars and the service was wonderful. Made our stay in Iceland even better to be based here!

Best location for a spring visit to Iceland

This hotel was perfect! It’s located just across the street from bus stop 4 and has beautiful views of the harbor and Mt. Esja. It is perfectly located so that you can walk to many restaurants, shops, and is just a 20 minute walk to the bus terminal. The walk to the bus terminal takes you past a beautiful lake! Breakfast was provided every morning and was delicious! They offered fruit, cereal, skyr, fish, bacon, sausage, pastries, cinnamon rolls, beans, eggs, coffee and juice. The first floor of the hotel has a great burger restaurant, bakery, and bar. All were delicious! Will definitely be staying here for our next trip to Iceland!

If you’re staying in Reykjavik prior to a cruise ( which we were) this place is perfect. Staff at desk were fantastic. Buffet breakfast excellent. Rooms don’t get made up everyday. ( we could care less). Restaurants everywhere. Shopping everywhere. Marine excursions right there. Bus stop to main terminal for land excursions just around corner. Can’t say enough about the place. From air port take the flybus to hotel area as taxi VERY expensive.

Close to the main town

Loved staying here - it was a great spot in city center, walkable to everything from food, sights, shopping. The room and bed was very comfortable and staff was helpful. We would stay here again.

Great location

Great location. Good transport connections. Trendy and modern decor.

The hotel is great, clean aesthetic, reasonably priced, we visited in May and the heating is very efficient so we were a little hot but the heated floors and towel rack in the bathroom were really luxurious. The beds were really comfortable and the coffee in the room is delicious. There is a cluster of delicious restaurants right across from the hotel on the harbor side and a convenience store down the street. We enjoyed our daily breakfast on site (waffles!! And a million other options) and the restaurant was delicious as well. The hotel staff were helpful with all of our questions and very friendly. We had to park a little ways away but the lot was safe and we knew the car wouldn't get a ticket (roughly 5-10 min walk away). We would come back for sure!

The room was very small. Very noisy. Bathroom had a window into the room so you could see someone using the shower or going to the toilet. There was a curtain that can be pulled across the window from the bedroom side. The bay view was a seaport view. Lots of noise from other rooms. 2 We struggled to store 2 suitcase and 2 backpacks.

Hotel was perfect location for exploring Reykjavik by foot. Very walkable to cathedral, rainbow road, bars and restaurants. Breakfast included is really high quality and decision - a great way to start the day. The onsite restaurant is also excellent, same with the bakery, Dieg. Hugely recommend!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Exeter Hotel. It was very clean and safe. The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was excellent with many choices. The bakery in the lobby is wonderful. Must try the Creme Brule donut!

We had a great stay here. The hotel is stylish with great facilities and in an excellent location for spending time in Reykjavik. The breakfast is particularly good - huge amount of choice and everything delicious.

Whilst the hotel rooms are fun, and location not bad, the lack of a decent breakfast offering is extremely disappointing. It felt like a camping site, and the hotel can so much more to make it better. For example, offering PROPER coffee, variety of egg options, and better gluten and dairy intolerance options

Disappointing place. Expensive for a small room with literally no view. Terrible breakfast. No espresso or cappuccino at breakfast. Only watery filtered coffee. Barely any fruit. Rude staff. It reminds me of a budget hotel yet it was 350 euro a night.
