Downe Cottages

A good base with lots of opportunity to get out and about on interesting walking routes both coastal and inland. The week at Downe Cottages gave us the time to slow down from a busy work life and just appreciate the natural world for a while again. The cottage (Clematis) had everything we needed for a peaceful, self-catered break, away from the bustle of the beach based towns. However, they are reachable in the car for those non-yomping days.

Clematis cottage was well appointed with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Lynda & Jeremy gave us a warm welcome and took considerable time to explain and show the facilities available. Having the added bonus of reading room, gym and spa raised the standard to a very high level. The location of the cottages gave easy access to local walks along the cliff paths, local village and a fantastic restaurant all just minutes away. In summary, best holiday for quite some time!

Very thoughtful hosts and a charming and well equipped cottage.

Each of the accomodation units is part of old outbuildings and well appointed. Ours lacked for nothing and was a home from home. There is a barn allocated to car parking which makes it feel even more special. The hartland peninsula has it's own little community and small beach areas along with access to the coastal path. You MUST have a car for this to make sense though and the last few miles of road are very narrow. This may be a consideration for you. The owners were also very helpful. Lovely.

Downe cottages are located in a beautiful part of the country. After shielding for several months this was our first time away from our own home. We have previously stayed at the cottages and found them to be excellently managed by their owners, Jeremy and Lynda, so this made them our first choice of a place to stay. We were not disappointed. Our cottage was beautiful and well appointed.
