Kohea Kai Hotel Maui

The staff was super friendly and helpful. We got an ocean view upgrade and the room was great, it look updated and clean. The pool and hot tub area was nice and the gardens are pretty. Also, the little snack nook was a nice bonus. That being said, the buildings need upkeep they looked run down and there were chunks of stucco missing in several places but I would definitely stay here again you cant beat the price for the area.

It felt like visiting a family member’s home…the room was clean, stocked, and homie. Very personable staff, friendly and helpful. There are comfortable amenities: a cool little pool, bbq and seating areas and you can borrow beach chairs, towels and ice chests. Nice continental breakfast items and very good coffee. It’s literally across the street from the beach in Kihei, great location, close enough to the eats but private and away from the bustle. Great value and would highly recommend to anyone looking around Kihei on Maui, you won’t find a better value.

Great location. The had some good quality beach equipment (chairs, umbrellas, coolers) that you could borrow. Friendly staff. Breakfast was basic but ok.

Beautiful location, right across the street from the beach and close to many restaurants. Staff was super friendly. Very accommodating and helpful. The only downside is that parking is a bit limited and spaces are small, but we did manage to find a spot anytime we needed one.

No locked room for luggage when checked out and was coming back for. Pool not clean

The hot tub was residential not commercial, and was out for 5 days, The sliding glass doors opened only halfway. There was no dishwasher. They had great staff, but you could see they were cutting corners

Pool was dirty and tiny. Spacious full kitchen. Parking it ackward. Bed was horrible. Beach is across the street but very murky and hard to access

The beach is really pretty in this area, but it gets REALLY windy in the afternoon. Go to the beach in the morning (go to the areas with the palm trees—SO BEAUTIFUL) and go do other things after the wind comes in. The pool is cute and intimate (small). The hot tub was out of order, but it was too hot for hot tubbing anyway. We had so much fun at this property. They let you use their beach umbrellas, chairs and coolers for free.

The woman at the front desk was incredibly welcoming and helpful…and seemingly always there. The hotel was a short walk across a busy street from the beach…and a nice park area a little farther south. Hotel provided chairs, umbrellas, coolers and beach towels. The suite was super comfortable and cooled off nicely by the time we arrived. A/C worked great. Bathroom came with all of the toiletries needed. Kitchen had a nice assortment of dishes and cooking items. We had a in room coffee pot but walked over to the office each day for coffee, tea, filtered water and ice. Patio outside our room was a nice morning coffee and evening wind-down spot. The garden was serene and beautiful. The small pool and hot tub were well-maintained. Free parking was a nice bonus as was being close to a bus stop before we got our car. Thanks for a great stay for a great price!

We loved the resort amenities like day use of beach umbrellas, chairs, and beach towels. There was an ice machine and water bottle filling machine and they had snacks in the morning and the afternoon. There was a pool and a hot tub

The hotel is at a convenient location with a nice beach just across the road and lot of restaurants and stores within 5-10 minute driving distance. Staff is nice but Property needs to be upgraded as we had couple of complaints - bathroom exhaust was not working, stuffy smell in the living room because of the curtain which needed replacement/washing and this was not taken care of during our stay because of staff shortage.

It was fine for a night, but there were quite a lot of ants in the room, the sound on the tv didn’t work, and it all seemed a bit cheaply put together. In my opinion it was not worth the price we paid

Place was dirty. My feet got dirty from the tile on the floor. Avoid this place.

We stayed one night unexpectedly due to flight changes. The staff were excellent and friendly. The beds were very comfy and it was spotlessly clean. The property overall is slightly dated but it was super convienent!

The room reeked of mold. The furniture was soiled.

The hotel is located in a convenient area, but our experience was disappointing. Shortly after checking in, we found a large cockroach in the room, which prompted us to request a room change. The first room also had a clogged wash basin. Unfortunately, the second room wasn’t much better—we noticed some insects there as well. As it was already quite late, we chose to stay, but it certainly didn’t feel like an ideal or comfortable environment. Additionally, the parking situation is tight, and maneuvering out of the property requires reversing, which can be a bit tricky.

Stairs were very unsafe. No banister and unsafe steps and floor was filty

The room was alright. Quite small. $117 for a late checkout (1/3 cost of the room for 3 extra hours). We were working all day so would not come back when you're stuck in a dark room. There's nothing nearby except a beach. There was a patio but the table was very off center. The one highlight was the free coffee, lemon water, and snacks. That's a great touch.

The hotel is cute. I would have given 4 overall but the bathroom needs a little paint to modernize it. Kitchen is a sure plus and close parking is convenient. Beach is across the street. Front desk is very helpful. We stayed at the bottom floor. There may have been children above us who were running around at night.

Nice beach front cottage. I stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment it was very spacious and beautiful. The beds were very comfortable and clean. We had a full kitchen and 2 large dining spaces. The front desk crew was very helpful and friendly. I look forward to staying here again.

Excellent location and helpful staff, this is an older property with good room size, but it is very noisy with little insulation. Our bathroom window was broken and had to remain open so the noise level in our room was high. Good value for a large room.

Well located for driving to other parts of the island and local restaurants and stores. On arrival we were put in the wrong type of room for what I had booked, but got easily reassigned the next day. Standard room we had for 1 night was small with a very cramped bathroom, but modern thermostat. Junior suite we spent the next several nights in was quite spacious with more modern bathroom, but noisy wall-unit AC. It seems they might be upgrading individual rooms or features one at a time. Both rooms had a nice little kitchenette. Parking is free but can be challenging getting in & out of spaces. Bottom line, this isn’t the most luxurious or modern hotel but considering how expensive hotels are in Maui, it was a perfectly comfortable and pleasant place to stay for several nights.

Room was old. Not representative of the pictures from hotels.com. Expensive for what you get. Positive is the location across the street from the beach.

Front staff was excellent. Easy check in/out. Staff kept us updated on road closures to the hotel and gave us excellent directions to the hotel. I was a little nervous about staying at the hotel due to the resent storms knowing they were close to the damage but rooms were fantastic and staff was wonderful. We will be back!

Excellent. Simple but equip with everything you need. Staff is filled with the Aloha Spirit and snack are available free of cost for quest. Kona coffee available every morning. Fast check in and text check out. Simple but clean and beautiful grounds. Location is unbeatable. They made our first visit to Maui stress free and comfortable

Looked exactly like the photos, safe and comfortable room! The employees at the front desk were extremely friendly and kind, such a great and easy check in/check out. Complimentary snacks, beach gear, and suggestions on food too! We loved this hotel and would come back in a heartbeat.

Older place but clean and staff was very friendly. Had everything we needed. Even had beach chairs, towels and coolers to check out if needed.

Staff was excellent!!

The in-room description on the reservation through Expedia was different from the room into which we were booked.We were to have a “1 king, 2 bedroom suite, oceanfront” that priced out by Expedia from $550 to $560 per day (paid in advance through Expedia),not including taxes and fees.The hotel receptionist verified, the room we were actually booked into was a standard room, priced at approximately $325/day, not including taxes and fees and that we would have to work with Expedia for a refund. Expedia tried multiple times to verify the price differences and after at least 8 days, they informed us that they were unable to obtain approval for a refund from the manager. We also tried to speak to the manager. We were denied a phone number. We left multiple messages and never received a response. According to the receptionist, the manager, when she finally talked to Expedia, told them something about "room taxes,” indicating that what we had already paid did not account for room taxes. (Since we have not been able to talk to the manager we don’t know exactly what she reported to Expedia.) The manager may be confused, because our Expedia receipt shows that the higher room rate and room taxes were paid. Apparently Expedia can do no more for us. So, we are left with doubts about the efficacy of using Expedia to plan future travel, especially if hotels can switch the quality of a booked room at-will. We cannot recommend that any travelers plan a stay at the Kohea Kai Maui!

The front desk ladies were the best! Super friendly and helpful, with plenty of patience to give recommendations about the island. The location was perfectly in the middle of the island, so it was very easy and fast to drive to get where we needed - beaches, the ocean center, stores, restaurants, and even the hospital. The hotel provides guests with beach chairs, umbrellas, towels and also coolers. The only downside of the room was the shower curtain being a bit too short, so it was hard not to flood the bathroom when we showered. Still would totally recommend this stay!

Nice safe place, a stones throw from the beach. Close to shops and restaurants. You don't need a vehicle, plenty of public transportation, or ride share. Rooms are nice and quiet.

This hotel had a rating of excellent and it definitely is not. The hotel needs updated. The photo of the beach view is misleading. The ocean across the street is nasty and dark. I define would not swim there. Free parking was nice.

Did not appreciate the sound of asphalt and heavy machinery at 8:00 am. The water on the beach in front of the hotel was brown and gross.

The outside looks weathered but the rooms are very nicely renovated and clean. The staff is super helpful and very kind. I really have enjoyed my stay.

This was a little bit cheaper than most other properties we looked at. It is definitely a nice option. The staff could not have been nicer. We really appreciated the snacks and coffee/tea service. We enjoyed the very close proximity to a nice beach, and the pool / hot tub. Our only wish would be since the floor is not carpeted, the beach is right there, and housekeeping is not daily- a broom/ dust pan. I personally would not have a problem sweeping the grit we tracked in every time we went outside. The room is very nice, and clean on arrival.

Pros: location, staff Cons: Need major upgrades in the interior and exteriors. Parking lot has very odd orientation (hence difficulty to exit), no closet door, minimal breakfast

The front desk staff are absolutely incredible, very friendly and super helpful with any questions/requests you may have. The only thing I wish could have been different: having dishes and dish soap in the room. You have access to a mini fridge and microwave, but it’s tough to make a quick breakfast/lunch if you’re trying to budget. The restaurants in the area are awesome but you’ll run out of $$ quickly if you’re eating out for every meal! A few microwave-safe dishes would have been great. Other than that, couldn’t have asked for anything else! Great location, friendly staff, clean and comfortable room.

The bed was comfortable, sheets were soft, bathroom newly remodeled. Furnishings were bare-boned, buildings were tired and the grounds were kind of a maze. Staff was friendly and there was a nice but small variety of breakfast snacks available. Also, it’s more of a motel than hotel. Not a place you go to hang out but fine for a clean bed and shower. Speaking of, shower didn’t get hot enough.
