The Dog & Bear Hotel

The room was very nice and the decor was stunning. They had a a lovely outside seating area light up. The parking was very good and staff were very polite and kind.

The hotel is set in a really nice Kent village, the room was clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was generally very good, but there were just several small issues. - The car park appears to have had too many spaces crammed into it and so is extremely tight. - The TV remote control did not work even after changing batteries - The water temperature goes from ice to fire with virtually no in between - The shower was feeble - The scrambled eggs at breakfast time were so dry they looked more like loft insulation - Only one waiter at breakfast seemed too few Bizarrely though I still liked the hotel, it could just be so much better

Quirky old building but well maintained, low ceilings 😅 Fantastic staff, nice pub downstairs, lots of locals eating in the restaurant. Food was a bit average. Bedroom windows don't open more than 2cm due to safety cord.

Always stay in this lovely pub when crossing over to France. Lovely greeting on arrival and gear food. We bring our dog and this place is ideal as there are great walks on the doorstep.

Great location, masdive bedroom that was clean with lovely touches eg coffee maker. Delicious pub tea high quality and friendly staff. Would 100% recommend and stay again.

This was a 1-night stay for work. I was in room 24, which looked out onto the courtyard. Even though this did not affect me on this occasion, the courtyard was the smoking area for the venue, so you might not want to stay in this room if you wanted to open the window. The room was pleasant, the bed was comfortable. The only reachable plug socket to charge my phone was under the desk in the room. The ensuite was okay. Tea and coffee in room was okay, TV control was a bit hit and miss, the Wi-Fi was okay not fast. I had breakfast included in my room price and I had the cooked breakfast which was great.

Nice rooms, pub attached for food so very handy. Great breakfast.

Friendly reception on arrival. Nice room with super king sized bed. Very good food in the pub and again at breakfast. Lovely village which had a farmers market happening on Sunday morning

I’ve stayed here for a number of nights over 3 separate occasions now, on 2 occasions in the same room then a different for the third. In the main part of the hotel it’s above the bar and overlooks the village, it’s an old building full of character and all the quirks that come with very old buildings, it’s nicely decorated and clean, the food is very nice and the dining area in the evening was lovely for a quiet meal, the second time we stayed we had a room at the back in the new part, personally I preferred this as it’s a more recent building but the view overlooked the courtyard so what I gained in the new building I lost in the view from the room, both I thought were good for different reasons. The staff are exceptional, welcoming , friendly and speedy to serve, personally I prefer this to a chain it has more personality. It’s located in the heart of a medieval village, has quite a lot of amenities near by, bakers, really nice cafe called the bow window, a post office couple of gift type shops and a local farm shop, parking was easy right behind the pub plenty of spaces and free, transport links pretty good too with a bus to either town and a train station to London or ashford. We stayed with our dog, and they really make dogs welcome, this I loved, there are also some great walks around the village fields too. It’s quite a small pub, I guess less than 30 bedrooms , whether you are looking for a stop to or from France or just a quick weekend get away I’d recommend it.

Clean comfortable room in a lovely village. Perfect for attending events at The Tithe Barn. Bathroom could do with a paint touch up but all clean and nice toiletries. Breakfast lovely, good choice.

Becky was amazing very welcoming Pub and rooms are tired especially carpets and bathroom but we were mindful of coming out of lockdown and the devastation to hospitality but this is a managed property and could do with a deep clean Lehman very quaint and quiet in the night although walls and floors thin and can hear pub below and neighbour residents, again mindful the original building is old and authentic.

Staff all lovely. Friendly and welcoming. I travelled with my dog. It’s a very dog friendly place Comfortable bed. Very clean. Bathroom a bit tired but plenty of space to put toiletries. Great water pressure so a good shower experience. Walks thin so if you object to any noise it may not be the place for you. Some of the table service a bit slow. Good but not exceptional quality of food. Overall a friendly, country pub with rooms in a picturesque Kent village.

The young girl was great, she was trying her best while dealing with impatient customers. The room looked good, bed was creaky and too soft and the temperature was way too hot. The bathroom was tired, dated and looked dirty around the shower/bath. I don’t think I will be back but the dog and bear gave me what I needed and that was a place to sleep.

Regularly stay here due to my head office being nearby, super clean rooms, really nice home cooked food with generous portions, amazing cooked breakfast, staff are all down to earth and happy to cater for any needs, my number one choice to stay when I'm down in the area and they are always competitively priced in the area especially with breakfast being included.

Quiet, comfortable, clean. Toiletries were excellent. Food was very good.

Very tired rooms. Shower had no hot water, even after 20 minutes. The power was very week too. Room size was ok, but again, tired. Bedding was clean and fresh. Staff were great. Evening meal was ok, but overpriced for what it was. Breakfast was very good, no issue's.

Great food options both for evening meal & breakfast. The bed was very comfortable (room 24) however the bathroom extractor fan took an eternity to go off & it was noisy! The fan itself needed a good hoover. Shower also disappointing very little pressure, difficult to get a good temperature. Decor tired. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The tea/coffee room facilities were excellent. The flask of milk & water very much appreciated. Thank you.

Nice room really comfy beds. Breakfast was good plenty of choice except all our poached eggs were over cooked (6 eggs), we did show the server but no replacements offered. Only thing I need to bring to your attention the shower. Shower was in bath, the screen did not catch on the bath so the slightest touch and water went all over the floor. Main issue was the tap controller for shower, it sticks out so far and you have to stand right underneath the shower head. There is not room to move without knocking the controller which kept moving and was boiling hot there did not seem to be a regulator on it. If my friend had wanted a shower she couldn’t as she would not fit between the controller and the screen. The controller should be at the end of the bath. There should be a max temperature set on the thermostat so save burns especially in children. The screen needs a new seal at the bottom. We were 3 friends staying as went to Leeds castle concert. Had a lovely time.loved the town and will be back but only after checking the shower first.

A very charming place, hundreds of years history throughout. Friendly staff too! It was hard to avoid hitting my head against the low door post of the shower door, obviously build for shorter people, and there was an issue with the hot water (there wasn't any). But that must have been an incident. I will try again next time!

Nice place Stopped three nights WFi not good in room TV limited channels working had a superior room for the price I would expect a lot better travel for a living and stopped in a lot of places better for a lot less

A nice characteristic hotel in the centre of the village. All Rooms were rustic but very comfortable. The only minor issue was the menu in the restaurant which was quite limited and expensive, but what we had was very nice. The staff were extremely friendly.

Hotel was well placed for many attractions. Staff were all lovely and very helpful. Food was excellent value in the restaurant. Breakfast was varied and plentiful.

The staff were top draw. Super helpful and friendly. It makes such a difference. I wish i had asked the name of the manageress..

A friend and I stayed here as we are walking the Pilgrims Way. A fantastic find. Friendly staff, really nice and cosy rooms, quiet at night. Had dinner in the bar, lovely food and great service. As other reviews say, breakfast was a bit slow, possibly the kitchen not the service staff as they seemed on the ball. Breakfast was v tasty anyway when we did get it. Overall definitely recommend

Lovely quaint little village, a good base for visiting Kent but wouldn’t use again. Bathroom was a little tired with missing toilet roll holder, trim falling off shower screen, no floor mat, missing toiletries on day one. Food service was poor - rump steak was tough as old boots, and breakfast orders both days across the restaurant were being served incorrectly with staff repeatedly taking back to the kitchen. Overpriced for that level of service

Warm friendly and courteous staff team. Clean and presentable accommodation. Breakfast choices were more than adequate, well presented and served hot. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel if staying in the area.

Fabulous place to stay really friendly staff. Excellent location close to the venue we were going to. Room was lovely nice and clean, very comfortable bed. Breakfast was fantastic, excellent menu choices. Great vegetarian option and really tasty. Pub attached to the hotel was great , i would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Stayed overnight before catching the Eurotunnel to France.

Had a lovely break at The Dog & Bear Hotel, very comfortable room with all the extras including coffee machine and pods which were very welcome. The choice of breakfast is also worth a mention and was cooked to an high standard. I would definitely recommend a stay here in the heart of Lenham village.

Great staff and very good breakfast

There was nothing unique about the property. the Dog and Bear has potential to be a wonderful Hotel and they pancakes were cold the service awful and we got for example a pot of tea without cups without spoons without milk half an hour 45 minutes Wait on breakfast, grubby smelly bedrooms I could go on there was only2 or 3 of the staff who made any effort.
