The Priest House On The River

Perfectly located for inbetween stop off for us, location was perfect. No lift, no help offered with bags, rooms electronic sockets dangerous/broken, dirty fan, broken tiles etc in bathroom, shower screen not fitted so water floods out when showering. All said, im disabled, so all points to a disaster waiting to happen, and pillows very uncomfortable.

We stayed in one of the cottages with our 2 dogs. These cottages are ideal if you have pets. This is our 2nd stay this year and will not be the last. The only downside is that the parking is a bit away from the cottages. There is 2 parking places for many cottages. We have a blue badge but can't be used. It is a fair walk with the luggage our dogs and their pet beds. But the room is very good and ideal for pets. The shower is probably the most powerful shower i have ever used.

Being able to bring our dogs (we had 2 rooms, 1 dog in each room)... it was fantastic. Staff were lovely, food wonderful, ambiance perfect... in fact we are going to book again.

The room was very damp, there was paint missing off the walls, the windows always had condensation on them, there was paint missing off the door, and the cabinets were dated and worn. Small tv, only towels and refreshments for 1 person, which were not topped up during our stay. The lager in the bar was also flat .

I often stay here when working at Donington Park Circuit. only 5 minutes drive away, and it has a large safe car park. For some strange reason and for the first time I never got a good night's sleep. There was a 40th party going on and the sound carried over to the cottages that i was in across from the garden, apart from that all good.

We had a very nice one night stay, The Hotel is in a nice Location. With friendly Helpful staff, A nice restaurant and outdoor space to enjoy the surroundings with a drink.

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with ample parking. The cottages exterior and communal areas could do with some updating. The shower room has been updated and the amenities in the room with tea and coffee making facilties. The choice at the buffet breakfast was ample with a very wide variety of hot and cold items. Check in and out was very efficient. The bed was slightly on the soft side for my weak back.

Lovely frontage with nice lawns on the rivers edge. Tranquil and loved sitting outside.

Nice break Cottages need updating. Stairs wet and slippy for my 90 year old Mum and no lift. Comfortable rooms but a bit tired

Overall I had a pleasant stay. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. I stayed in a room in a building not attached to the main hotel. It was warm and clean but a bit tatty. The main concern was the path/road between the Hotel and room. There were no lights making it very dark and hazardous with pot holes in the road. As a lone female I did not feel safe and would recommend a room in the main hotel us a must off you are on your own. From conversations with staff the lights failed after flooding and there is a reluctance to get the lights fixed.

The room was in very poor condition. There were spiders inside, along with visible spider webs both in the corridors and stairways. The bed was covered in dust and room had a strong, unpleasant old smell. The shower barely worked, with only water dripping from the head, making it impossible to properly wash out shampoo. The entire property showed serious wear and tear, which made the stay uncomfortable.

Clean tidy room, if somewhat out dated furniture, but considering very traditional riverside hotel quite well appointed. Always cold rooms (my 2nd stay), as expected with a listed building, no double glazing. Comfy bed and lovely bathroom & shower. Breakfast very mediocre, food left in water logged chafing dishes without burners. Really helpful staff, lovely warm greeting on arrival at reception. Average to good for a couple of business nights, would I pay the price personally, probably not.

Cozy clean room, lovely bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Would definitely visit again.

Rooms very clean, staff very friendly nothing to much trouble, dog friendly

Dated in desperate need of refurbishment . Staircase and walkway unsafe and roped off. Room drab,dirty and downright depressing. Cobwebs and stained carpets,broken window and entrance door didn't lock. Refused to stay. General Manager totally unsympathetic and insisted on charging for the room.Do not believe the photos. Do not book this hotel.

We were welcomed very warmly and were told a wedding was held that night, which was fine. We couldn\'t hear the party from our room so that was good, I\'ll come back to that later. Upon entering our room, we noticed it was very lived down. It didn\'t feel clean, paint was chipping from the door, carpet was filthy, mold in the bathroom, the bed linnens didn\'t feel fresh, it was hot. There was a note saying we shouldn\'t open the windows because of flies, which we totally get. However, when you know the rooms can get hot (it\'s an old hotel, that shouldn\'t come as a surprise), there\'s no airconditioning (which wasn\'t stated correctly everywhere), you would expect decent alternatives to cool down. There was a tiny fan that was so loud, we thought it would lift off any second. Back to the wedding. At 22h30, fireworks were set off on the parking lot. Right next to our room. I can not state enough how angry that made me. We brought our dog with us. It took us 2 hours to calm her down. How dare you state on your website that the hotel is dog friendly? We took time to research hotels that weren\'t part of a big chain, and were dog friendly. I went to the lobby to complain and they stated "we told you a wedding was going on". Again, I\'m fine with a wedding, but who in their right mind thinks it\'s okay to set off fireworks next to a hotel with dogs, probably sleeping children. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I\'ve ever had and will never recommend your place to anyone.

Welcome very good. Overall staff very friendly and efficient. Food was average. Room not as clean as expected. Decoration tired, mould on bedroom window bottoms. Bathroom sink tap mouldy as was the overflow.

Great setting, all staff very pleasant, the Restaurant was rustic and food good, table laid and clean although a little sticky. Room spacious and clean although entrance hall to Cottage area a bit worn. I would definitely visit again.

Lovely location on the river. Rooms are reasonably spacious and comfortable. Stayed in one of the cottages. The hotel does need some updating but this is only a minor criticism. The staff are lovely and the breakfast was tasty, buffet style with an excellent choice of hot and cold food. Hotel could easily attain a 5 star experience with some additional maintenance. Windows could do with a clean and brush up, particularly in rhe cottages, especially the communal areas. Simple things like getting rid of cobwebs would improve the initial impressions dramatically. These are relatively minor issues however and I would recommend the hotel without hesitation.

Great place for a nights stay before an event at the race course. Good food and the room was clean and comfy. Nice powerful shower and big towels!

Property itself is in a fantastic location, and main house is very well maintained. The cottages are quite small, could do with a refurb. Tv in room kept losing channels and had to be reset. I'd l say the accomodation is overpriced.

Stunning location, beautiful room overlooking the river, nice friendly staff

The noise from the heating system was a problem, the banging in the pipes would have made it impossible to sleep in the first room we were given. After getting a different room two doors down it was tolerable. Nice food in the brasserie, but they should invest in some proper brandyglasses in the bar!

Nice room but lights outside shine all night in to bedroom. Bath water would only get to tepid and the bath tap of hot in room 18 was so hard to turn off I bruised my knuckle. Gorgeous setting and quiet at night

I had a - 15 - cottages room, which considering I have stayed in this hotel many times and only in the house was poor. For the money and all I was disappointed. Room was musky, bed clean but poor mixed matches furniture, dodgy door, slippy entrance, and all the usually for an old building. 5/10. But I had had house rooms before 10/10! Breakfast was 8/10 Service was lovley however the taps even cold gave tepid / warm water. No water in the room and a promise of some to be brought over which wasn’t :-(

We stayed for one night and was in the cottage rooms, which needs a revamp. The rooms look tired and there was a constant dripping sound! It really didnt feel like a 4 star hotel. On the plus side the staff were very helpful and friendly, we never had food so cant comment on that! If we stayed again we'd want to stay in the main hotel.

A large room with character features, and a very powerful hot shower.

Allocated wrong room from what I booked, complained and the response was oh well. Very rude breakfast waitress, she should not be customer facing. Will not return.

All staff from reception to restaurant were exceptionally friendly & helpful. Room was comfortable and well fitted out. Excellent value for the price.

Receptionist was most unhelpful to the point of being rude. My party needed to book a taxi to the airport and she insisted we would need a 7 seater for 3 people with only hand luggage. She also overcharged for the agreed room rate

Friendly staff and clean room. Whole hotel is looking a bit tired, but the location forgives this.

Very reasonable priced and pet friendly which was a big bonus for us. No additional fee for taking our small dog .🤗 Yeah! The receptionist was more than helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I don’t usually eat a cooked breakfast BUT the breakfast was the best I’ve ever tasted in a hotel! Everything tasted flavourful and was presented really well! I would definitely recommend staying here.

Power cut and staff unable to rest the water pump so no water to 6:50am and I needed to leave by 7am so I was unable to shower. No bottled water available even to clean teeth. Staff dismissive and no apology.

A worn out hotel Arrived 5 minutes after kitchen last orders and advised no food was possible and was given my rooms, having booked main house double rooms i was given 2 single rooms in the annnex building. Receptionist was completely uninterested blaming hotels.com and no other rings were avaliable and that no refund of the price difference was offered. The annex rooms were poor at best, badly decorated and very dirty, evidence of damp in the paint marks, a worn out single bed with a mattress clearly passed it's prime. The pictures on the walls one had a smashed glass and the remains were still stuck in the frame. To top it off in the morning the shower was cold. This place might look good in the images but in reality it's one of the worst places I've stayed.

Second stay for us, stayed last year for the Donnington historic festival. Hotel grounds are beautiful. Room was in the “cottage” which was clean and a good shower. Hotel was hosting a wedding so it was a bit noisy into the small hours. Disappointed that breakfast didn’t start until just after 8 with many people waiting and we had to rush to get to our event.

Had to book hotel near east mids airport after late arrival back in UK. Booking online was easy and hotel exceeded expectations. It was also an easy drive from airport. Likely to use again if we have early or late flights out or back

Nice hotel near Castle Donnington. Accommodation in cottage was ok but in need of updating. This is second time I’ve stayed here. Biggest issue on both occasions is noise in early hours. Must be airport runs. People talking at high volume between 3-4am with no regard to others. Suggest the hotel puts a sign up to ask people to respect others by being quiet after 11pm!

What a great hotel! I booked because of its proximity to Donington Park race circuit and didn't really look at the details. The location is remarkable. Picturesque, next to a river, at the end of a pretty country lane. The room was large, well appointed and clean. It was a hot day but a fan was provided in the room. The pillows are particularly good, as is the shower. Staff were welcoming and food and drink was tasty and reasonably priced. The place has character, free parking too.

Beautiful setting right on the river Trent lovey old build been restored staff and food are great if in the area of donnington it’s a must stay location

The dancing above the restaurant made the dinner experience challenging it was so noisy. Also trucks delivering early morning very noisy outside room at 7 am

We stayed for one night and found the hotel to offer good value for the price we paid. Its location was very convenient for the Donington Park race circuit, which was a key factor for us. The restaurant was still open when we arrived late in the evening, with friendly service and reasonable pricing, though the menu options were somewhat limited. The accommodation, especially in the area away from the main house, could benefit from a refresh, but for a short stay at the price we paid, it met our needs. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and we would consider staying again if the price remains competitive.

Beautiful location, I could’ve sat outside the bar all day. The room looked a bit tired. Chipped furniture, hole in the plaster under the tv. The shower screen hung over the outside of the bath. Limited menu in the restaurant. I remember the priest house being very elegant. It’s now ok.

The room was a little dated but comfortable. The breakfast and breakfast service was awful! We were not offered hot drinks, had to ask for them then when we did finally get coffee, it was only warm not hot. We had to wait 20 minutes for the self service breakfast items to be replenished, the food was poor quality and very greasy.

Service was excellent. The location and ambiance were fantastic. A good breakfast set us up for the drive home. The only downside was the extremely restricted festive dinner menu, with no option of the normal bar snacks. But we'll be back.

Good sized room and comfy bed, all clean and enjoyed the tea/coffee making facilities. The staff were very helpful and friendly, good evening meal and breakfast at sensible prices.
