Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Charlottesville Downtown/University Area

Not a fan - too many little things wrong that, on their own, might not have been important but built up to make our stay quite unsatisfactory (and we did report them to the front desk). 1) parking is mainly in the underground park but we just couldn’t make the lift work with our room key; itmeant an uphill trek with all our luggage. 2) no info in the room and generally poor signage around the hotel. You want a wifi password? Call reception. Times of breakfast? Call reception. Location of pool? Call reception. Location of laundry? Call reception. I found two people on separate occasions wandering round just looking for ice machines 3) no working fan in bathroom 4) no teabags provided in room 5) laundry out of action. This is a deal breaker when you’re on the road for several weeks and make a point of selecting a hotel mainly on the basis of being able to do laundry 6) aircon so noisy that we couldn’t sleep with it on 7) hairdryer cable so short I had to kneel on the floor to dry my hair (and I’m only 5ft) if I also wanted to use a mirror 8) pool is possibly the tiniest I’ve ever seen in a hotel 9) breakfast was ‘meh’ - oranges at the bottom of the bowl were clearly moldy On the plus side, our room was clean and the beds comfortable and the water on the counter had citrus to flavour it - nice touch. But we’ve stayed in many many hotels at this price point around the world and this one stands out as being below expectations.

Property was under construction. Only one elevator worked and the room shower was dirty.

Nice hotel in a nice location. Free parking garage. 15 minute walk to many good restaurants and bars. Will definitely stay here again when in Charlottesville.

did not like that the pool was closed, as that was a major reason in selecting this hotel

Hotel was clean and bed was beyond comfortable. Breakfast options were perfect. After coming back late from a concert, parking was limited. I had a large truck and couldn\'t fit in the 6\'5" garage which was full anyway. Managed to maneuver in a spot. Loved the late checkout at 12 also.

It would have been useful to know that the property is being renovated and that the pool was unavailable. It was disappointing to find the breakfast option was overpriced pastries and Starbuck coffee. We traveled with a gluten-intolerant grandchild and had to rummage around a town we were unfamiliar with to find breakfast. The front desk check-in staff was very good.

Really impressed with the cleanliness of the room. Was comfortable walking on the carpet w/o shoes a couple of times. Hallways were well lit with signs indicating elevator and exits. Breakfast was very good. Only negative comment I have would be the parking. Very tight if you drive a truck/van. Would definitely stay again.

Reasonable stay. Disturbed by the builders working with reversing machinery early in the morning. Fridge noisy too but we realised it could be switched off. Pool was nice but quite small.

A beautiful hotel. Shining clean, in a lovely setting in Charlottesville. The staff was friendly and very helpful, the room comfortable and spotless, and breakfast was fresh and a good variety. I would absolutely stay there again!

Check in was good with polite and friendly Hostess. They would have received an excellent rating; however deadbolt on door did not work and bedding (sheets, comforter, pillow cases smelled like cigarette smoke. I notified front desk attendant and the bedding was changed to fresh clean bedding. The deadbolt remains broke (safety issue).

Clean, quiet and price was decent.

This hotel was very clean, bright, neat, and the staff were very helpful and always available. The room was very clean and well kept.

Got to our room. No hot water. Receptionist suggested moving rooms, or staying, & manager will give discount. She was rude. I said I’d stay. Pulled back the covers to get to bed (son was having surgery & we had to be at the hospital at 5:15 am), & there was pubic hair inside the “clean” bed. I called right back, got a new room, & just wanted to go to bed. Bathroom had long pieces of hair on the floor, shower had an old wash cloth hanging over the shower. Very disappointed, from our last stay, which was perfect!!

Overall decent stay. Some of the receptionist staff are less than favorable. We only had issues with 1 in specific, all others were great. Nice place and mostly clean but did notice some mold in the shower. WiFi did not work as stated it would and working remotely while staying there was impossible. Otherwise decent stay.

I recently stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Charlottesville and was genuinely impressed by the quality of the room. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that cleanliness is a top priority here. The space was spotless — fresh linens, dust-free surfaces, and a well-maintained bathroom.

Room smelled like cigarettes

This place was pretty dirty. The staff was very nice but the room was awful. There were blood stains in the sheets and holes in the comforter and various stians along the room.

Everything has been great with no surprise charges. The staff has been great.The room was clean. The breakfast was good too.

Bed was too soft ie worn out. The cable wasn’t working and there was no hot water 2 of the 3 days of our visit

We came for UVA graduation. The room was very nice and large with a separate couch. Would like to have stayed longer

Noisy AC unit but all else excellent

In the room for person with disability, the bed was too soft and also too high for shorter person to get into or out of without assistance. Also, dangerous to get out of. No stool or other type of assist was offered or available. Discovered that this was a common complaint in that area. Soft bed resulted in inability to lie flat on bed without curvature of body.

Quite loud too, but the rattle was difficult to sleep through . The outlet kicked off the hair dryer repeatedly and did it on another outlet as well . While I understand wanting to turn over the room for another guest , we had housekeeping knock on the door at 9 am and again at 9:30am, making us feel rushed to get out . It seems there would be a better system . I usually do not leave reviews , as we understand things happen that are out of our control . However , I felt the need to review this time, as there were several issues .

Overall, the Fairfield Inn is a nice place for the price. Breakfast and parking are included in the price, which many all of the nearby hotels charge separately for these. The negative item for us was our room faced Cherry Street. Surprisingly, between emergency vehicles and loud pickups and cars, there were numerous times throughout the night we were woken by the road noise.

The staff were very helpful, but our trash didn’t get emptied during our stay. We requested a handicap accessible room. The pull down seat in the shower was great, but it was terribly small if you were trying to stand up. The bed was so high that my 6’ husband had to jump up to get in it and had to assist me (5’ 5”). The bed also was so hard that it didn’t make an indentation when we laid on it. Fortunately the room had a couch and I actually slept on the couch. They did offer a buffet, but the food was bizarre and had no bread.

The hotel and staff were fine, but the neighborhood was run down and there was a lot of street noise.

Staff person that checked me on was outstanding. I had an issue with my room and he wonderful with correcting the issue. He provided excellent customer customer service.

The person that checked me in was very professional and jovial. Checkin was a breeze.

We were on a short, two-night vacation with the kids, and one of them got sick and made a huge mess of one of the beds in the room. The cleaning staff handled the incident with kindness and discretion, which was greatly appreciated. The rest of the staff was just as courteous as well, which made what should have been an extremely rough start to the trip much smoother. Thank you to everyone at Fairfield for your help and service, we will definitely be back!

Our company sends teams out to work in various areas may times a year. They typically love Marriott hotels, but unfortunately, we will not be booking with them anymore. We've spent a lot of money in hotels annually, most of which were Marriott or assoc. Typically with no issues whatsoever. Until now, this particular trip was cut short due to heavy snow that my team could not work in, when we ask for any kind of help, as in, a partial refund or booking the same amounts of rooms the following week. We were told to essentially "take a hike", and "our policy is no refunds at all ever". This was very disappointing that we did not get any kind of assistance and wasted three night's stay for two rooms. I fully understand policies and their stance, but I feel like with the amount of past and potential future business. There would have been some kind of "customer care" assistance. Thanks!

Really appreciated hotel staff making it flawless

First when I checked in, there still guests inside for the room gave to me Then I had to go back to asked another room. The lady at front desk was not happy and passed that room to another check in guest. Moment after, that guest met the same issue. Few hours after my check in, my credit card was charged again. So I went down to check with the front desk. The lady at front desk is very rude and she said that is the system trasaction and she can do nothing. And nobody I can talk to. I have to wait to see..I will never stay in this hotel again

Excellent staff

Hotel was great but difficult to find entrance. Area was sketchier than I thought it would be. Lots of homeless people in downtown Charlottesville.

Inn is ideally located for downtown restaurants, bars, nightlife, etc. Checkin was easy and parking was located underneath the building. I would definitely consider them again when I need to spend a night in Charlottesville.

Great location near UVA and downtown. Hotel is quiet, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast is a little limited.

The hotel was great but I didn’t feel I could walk in the surrounding area.

The coffee is awful, partly because no non-dairy options are there. The oatmeal was very very thick & the fruit bowl was quite lacking. Beds are comfy & fitness room is good & everyone was friendly

Room was very comfortable, bathroom quite roomy. Excellent shower and soft towels. Breakfast was excellent with choices for those of us who are gluten free, lactose intolerant and/or vegan. Front desk very friendly and helpful. Hotel walking distance to shopping and food. 15 minutes away from Monticello.

Positives: friendly, helpful staff; clean, comfortable rooms; walkable to points of interest, stores, restaurants. Negatives: limited breakfast choices (e.g. had lactaid milk and chocolate milk but no plain white milk; multiple choices of coffee but no caf-free tea; food options limited as well).
