Wairakei Resort Taupo

Great resort located a short drive outside Taupo. We stayed for two nights on a road trip. Big resort with great facilities for everybody in the family both young and older.

Value for money Excellent. Facility is getting tired looking but it is still comfortable and as a 1 stop holiday destination is untouched with all the sports activities and relaxing. -3 degrees this morning and to hop into a 37° pool is amazing I will be back.

Heated pools are great, bball tennis and soccer court are a plus. Good food in the restaurant. Rooms decor is a bit tired, could do with refresh.

Very reasonably priced accommodation, not too far from town and things to do but also plenty of good recreational options if you didnt want to venture out with the gym being one of the better equipped hotel gyms ive tried. A bit dated but thats reflected in the price, staff were great

The room was clean but in tired condition and needed refurbishment. Stayed twice in a week in different rooms (we had booked both stays ahead), both had similarly tired furnishings. We have stayed here in previous years, there are other rooms that have newer furnishings. The difference isn't made clear in the room descriptions but on reflection, the price is probably indicative. No airconditioning/heatpump to cool the room. There was a ceiling fan which we ran on the low setting all night when sleeping; this was adequate during our stays. The sport facilities are great - a nicely heated swimming pool, tennis court, basketball hoop, gym and kids' playground all in good condition, not forgetting the golf course too. Good for a quick run to the prawn farm and Huka falls too, if you're moderately fit.

We stayed for 8 nights in January in Room 915 on the top floor. Our room had a king bed with the adjacent suite/sitting room. The sitting room came in handy when we brought food back to the room, so we had a place to sit and eat. Overall the stay was fantastic. Check-in was fast, parking was close, and the staff friendly. The heated lap pool and heated spas were nice and hardly used by anyone else. The tennis courts and golf course were closed the entire time, so if you were hoping to use these you were out of luck. The breakfast buffet the hotel offered for $46 NZ ($27 US) seemed to be way overpriced, but with the suite we had a large refrigerator and purchased food items for breakfast and snacks. There's a BP gas station & convenience store practically across the street which come in handy as well. The downside to the resort are the carpets, both in the rooms as well as the hallways. They're extremely worn and need to be replaced. Another downside is maid service. I'm not sure what the policy is, but they changed the linens once in the 8 days and never came in for anything else. We had to bring our trash to a dumpster every few days. Other than those two small complaints we'd recommend staying here. It's convenient to many attractions, the town of Taupo, and It fit our needs perfectly.

great pools, spas, tennis, squash, gym, great staff. what I didn't like so much was the very low and very soft beds, very small fridge that drinks rolled out of all the time, thin single-ply toilet paper, bulk soap and shampoo dispensers instead of toiletries, a microwave would be an added benefit too. but despite these things, the staff were amazing, and the overall facility was amazing too. I market it down from and 5 to a 4 because of those things mentioned, but the rest is 5 out of 5, all the way.

The room was spotless. The staff were courteous. We had a very nice stay

No water supplied or water bottle, asked me to drink from bathroom tap, room was filthy specially the carpet, beds were terrible , couldn’t sleep at all, bathroom tiles were mouldy.. won’t be coming back to this place

Classic and clean. No dust on bench bed or cobwebs! Impressed

When we arrived no one was at reception. So we headed to the bar and he was surprised no one was at reception. He then called them. I had to go back to reception to obtain general information about Wifi, pool times, etc. The barman was friendly and very helpful. Our shower had hair on the walls, so cleanliness was poor. The spouting is worn, rusting and leaking . For my money I believe we can find better quality.

Outstandingly clean! Our cleaning technician was BRILLIANT!

Room was musty, carpet old and stained,bathroom fan not working, needed a clean, roof spouting blocked and overflowing.

Bathroom in our room was disgusting wasn’t clean at all, thought we’d come back to a clean room after a day out but no sheets were just pulled up nothing was cleaned

The room we had 418 is in poor condition, stains on the carpet, door is insecure. There is far better accommodation in town for lees cost.

The riom was very dated, neighbouring room was so noisy and woke my child up after 10pm, could not get hold of any staff to help. The door to deck didnt lock, several lights not working. It was cold and no extra blankets in room. We did enjoy the hot pool, but that was about the only good thing.

Been to this resort few times previously, but it’s about time the management invested in upgrading the rooms. Our stay was uncomfortable. The room itself was outdated. Bed was in a bad state. The mattress is way outdated and needs replacement. It’s actually a health and safety issue with no springs left at the end of mattress and not safe with kids around.

The Villa accommodation is very poor value for money. The rooms are very tired, no air conditioning, not even a coffee press.

Had we not have got a price deal our rating would be different. The room and overall facility needs a makeover, it is a little tatty and tired. Many electric sockets did not work in our room (411) and one was literally breaking. Saying that, the bed was comfortable, which was the main reason for the stay and it was quiet.

Nice little hotel. Pools, gym and sports areas were all great. Wifi is basically non-existant. As well, the hotel was quite noisy due to how loud the doors were when closing. Walls are pretty thin! Staff were very pleasant, overall decent stay.

Room is spacious

This resort is in a great location with nice pools and OK facilities. The room itself was clean enough but incredibly old and dated. Very worn out carpets and furnishings etc. But the main negative was how incredibly hot the room gets. We were staying in early February and the outside temperature was warm but not extremely hot; however the room seemed to catch all the sun and heat and there was only an ineffective ceiling fan to try and relieve the situation. Despite having the fan on full the room was still unbearably hot all night. Even with windows open. For this reason I probably wouldn't stay here again if coming in Summer.

Pool was excellent. In room cooking options eg microwave or toaster would have been nice. Room interior was dated but spacious and comfortable. We did find rubbish in a drawer from previous guest but not a concern. Restaurant was pricey so didn't try it. Would definitely stay again, great location and very relaxing.

This hotel has had a real uplift since the change in management. Everything feels a bit cleaner and fresher, and the staff — especially in the restaurant and the cleaning staff— are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself has a lovely, refined atmosphere, set in a space with a stunning timber ceiling. With continued upgrades and refreshing of the facilities, this resort has the potential to become a truly top-tier hotel.

Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience at the hotel. Our room wasn't ready at our 3pm arrival check-in, and we had no hot water that evening or the following day until after midday. There was no communication regarding this, when I asked I was told it was our wing & was being fixed. There was no apology compensation, or attempt to problem solve by offering a different room. Reception was under staffed, & in general the hotel was in need of a renovation I feel.

The garden area and the grounds were beautiful. The staff was very helpful and concerned about our welfare because our luggage had been lost by the airport. Samantha, at check-in, was especially helpful.

The only issue was calling them. It took 6 calls and the minimum on hold was 13mins every time. Twice we where cut off while talking

We had a pleasant stay in the Huka twin room, which was quite lovely. However, the check-in process was a bit slow, taking over 30 minutes. While the food was decent, it felt a bit pricey for what we got, but the wait staff were truly exceptional. On the bright side, the swimming facilities were fantastic. All in all, we'd rate our experience a 3.5 out of 5.

Where to begin? I suppose we start at check in, why not? We got lucky and pulled up before it got silly. There were only two employees there - Inese Lords (more on her later, a little light in a dark place) and another older woman. I was grateful to miss the rush, as we had plans an hour later, but it was the first clue that this "resort" (and I will continue to use these intentionally disparaging quotes, because it's crystal clear that Accor's idea of a resort is an eternity away from mine and my wife's) was going to be an incredible disappointment. My second clue was provided after visiting the bar and asking for a draft beer. The young woman there kindly (and with some deserved embarrassment) explained that I'd have to wait for her manager, since she didn't know how to operate the taps. No shade, it's not on her, it's on this property's atrocious management for staffing her at the bar with apparently zero training. Someone working with her attempted to help, but proceeded to fill a pint glass with ice before pouring, at which point I realized that I was out matched with ignorance. Fortunately, Mr. manager arrived and properly poured a pint (at the dear price of 16$NZD, what a joke!). My third clue (and let's be honest here, the mystery was solved by now) was when we came back after dinner to find that our room (504 in the Wairoa room) had a busted fuse box! Every time we tried to turn on the lights, the breaker tripped, leaving us in darkness!

Nice and quiet. Very pleasant surroundings, Good value for money. It was clear that the Resort is short staffed as our room was not serviced, and it took about half an hour to queue to check in. Apart from that, a pretty good stay.

Perfect location for everything we wanted to do in Taupō and Rotorua! Easy to get in and out of. Very quiet and comfortable.

Cute little motel / resort right next to Wairakei Terraces spa. Not luxurious but had a certain charm, for a small hotel it has a lot of facilities (gym, spa pools, swimming pool) and a lovely little restaurant. Seemed to offer far more than anything in Taupō. Would definitely recommend

From check in to check the amazing team looked after us and made us feel so welcome. Our room was great, comfy beds and all we needed for our little weekend get away for our anniversary. Oh and the hot pools were amazing, wish they had some sort of entertainment though, like a big screen playing music or something maybe a bit more lighting for ambience😁 lots of parking, oh and let's not forget the little 9hole gold course across the road👍 easy access to the town center and all other attractions.

It's a lovely resort but if you want to leave you have to drive as it is well out of town.

We particularly enjoyed the hot pools and location of this resort meant we could easily access things to do outside.

Pleasant stay as always. Quiet and away from touristy parts of Taupo yet accessible to everything. Will stay again with our family.

Property looks a bit dated. Staff is friendly. Room was clean and had all the amenities we expected. Parking is easy but it is located outside of town so you need to drive.

Great hotel, awesome facilities. Breakfast amazing but expensive.

Alhough the rooms were showing theiw age they were clean and tidy. The beds were comfortable and the rooms warm. The range of food for the breakfasts was good, the plate warmer didnt seem to be doing its job very well and it was a pity the coisants werent able to be heated up. The restaurant evening menu could have had a few more options but on the whole the service was good

Liked pools but dont know if they were very clean. Did not like the food and service at the restaurant.

Lovely staff, but property is getting tired. Dining was convenient, but pricey without the quality to back it up.

The food was very disappointing. Had much better pub meals. 3 attempts to cook lamb rack.. sent all 3 back..!! Drinks were expensive.. large portion dispensed without asking.. then asking $26 for a glass of average nz wine.. Breakfast overpriced and very average.

The reception was professional and helpful, and friendly. The outdoor pool was wonderful. Plenty of delicious food for dinner.

Good breakfast and wonderful resort

Generally great, breakfast would have been great at half the price, it was a good basic buffet breakfast but the price was for something much better. Coffee was from a machine that seemed to be filter although it said esspresso, and only eggs were scrambled.
