I have written hotel reviews for many years and have always tried to be fair. Good hotels deserve praise; poor experiences deserve honesty. This is one of the very few occasions on which I have felt genuinely let down. The facilities advertised are exactly what they are: no air conditioning, no lift, no gym, no laundry service, and no in-room safe. That is not my complaint. We booked the hotel knowing those limitations. The problem was the room itself. We were allocated Room 3, directly above a very busy pub. During an unusually warm spell, keeping the windows closed was simply not an option. Keeping them open, however, meant enduring late-night noise and cigarette smoke drifting into the room from smokers gathered immediately below our window. After deciding that the room was simply unsuitable, we checked out and moved elsewhere. The hotel was fully booked, so our rooms were promptly reoccupied. Nevertheless, two weeks' accommodation for two rooms—approximately £5,000—was retained under the non-refundable policy. The hotel was perfectly entitled to rely on its terms and conditions. Equally, guests are entitled to judge whether exercising every contractual right is always the same as treating customers fairly. Contracts define what business may do. Character is revealed by what they choose to do. As the English saying goes, just because you can, doesn't always mean you should. The hotel kept the money; we kept the lesson. Future travellers may wish to keep both.

Lovely hotel near the Malverns and close to a railway station from where regular direct trains run to Hereford, Ledbury, Malvern and Worcester- handy for day trips. Offered help with luggage on arrival. Room spacious, but some units could do with refresh. Breakfast could be better, with fruit only offered as an alternative to cooked, rather than as well as. Decent cooked to order options though. For dinner, good selection of meats from local farm. The pastry on my pie was overly hard albeit contents very good, and veg could have been cooked better. Pleasant modern bar next to the restaurant. Overall, a pleasant stay and the Malvern Hills are great for a walk with wonderful views in all directions.

Lovely hotel. Nice large room with views to the Malverns. Quiet. Food was absolutely excellent, both breakfast and dinner. Very smart, attentive staff. Would highly recommend this place.
