Parking will be your only issue. Oh, and it’s stairs all the way if that’s a consideration

Hotel is an old pub with lots of character. Just have to accept squeaky floors. Parking in the area is a problem and expensive.

Be sure to check out the Underground downstairs. Great little bar, staff were great, knowledgeable and the friendliest.

Good spacious room. Nice old world hotel. No onsite parking and you have to pay $5.50 hour to park in the street.

Hotel was clean, bed good, BUT there is no lift and all accommodation is up steep stairs. Only one coat hanger in the wardrobe.

The bar at the basement has an impact on the bedroom in smell as well as noise.

Beautiful building. Great bars and food. Bed very comfortable. Live music. Don’t expect to get to sleep early on a Friday or Saturday night. Great if you like to party. Sunday night, great Jazz downstairs and nice and quiet after 9pm.

Clean, large room, great balcony.

There was hair on toilet seat and toilet was not clean also blood was on door frame next to door handle and wine glass in fridge had lipstick marks on it

I liked that the rooms were clean , bed was very comfortable and there was alot of space but the windows were covered in mould .

Room condition was rough. Peeling walls and ceilings. Rust all over the bathroom including the bin and toilet brush. Carcks all over the walls and in the bathroom tiles. I felt uncomfortable staying there.

Bed was comfy. However, there was No reservation desk, so checking in was confusing. , check in was in the noisy bar. Food over cooked and hardly edible, had to be ordered from the bar.l, no wait staff. Room was noisy and in poor condition, paint peeling , mold on bathroom ceiling and wood trim, shower never got hot, broken tiles, toilet paper holder broken. Don't recommend. Sad thing is, with a little TLC it could be a glorious historical site.

The Grand Hotel is an old property that is well maintained and very clean. Whilst my room was old, it was surprisingly quiet, comfortable and clean with quality bed linen. I had a fabulous sleep and would definitely recommend this hotel and yes I would return.

Staff were amazing, however room was dark as there’s no windows in the room other than bathroom, lightbulb missing from lamp, ac didn’t turn on, power went out.

Pleasant stay at the Grand . Not much sleep On our last night due to the noise of an event downstairs , yes we realise it’s a pub but a bit of prior notice would have been welcomed . Good location for sea pool and beach

Very nice balcony and large room

Friday night I was surprised how quiet it was. Saturday morning someone was knocking for half an hour then Saturday night was above nightclub and noisy/base beat pretty annoying until midnight then bearable after that (and noise doesn't really bother me). PS, no lift even though Expedia said there was no stairs.

The hotel room was quite good for a building of its age however, it was very noisy both mornings, very early on with the sopunds of delivery trucks outside my room. Also, apart from bar staff in the afternoons and evenings, there were no staff to be seen anywhere in the mornings and no guidance on check-out, where to leave key, etc. Overall an OK stay for the price.

Make sure you pay extrta for the balcony room. Our first room was quite small. Overall nice place to stay and food was lovely.

The Grand is a great pub. Some of the rooms are excellent with old-world charm, and veranda access on the first floor. The bar is excellent. My room this time (I’ve stayed several times) was small, no veranda and tiny windows opening onto a brick wall, down pipes and droning pigeons.

Jacinta was amazing, and the strong ported who carried our luggage upstairs. If you want a lager couple of rooms, and an original large vintage bathroom that takes you back in time with a genuine old bathtub then The grand is for you, three of us stayed to see Cindy Lauper in concert. It exceeded my expectations, warm, friendly and great atmosphere, you cant ask for much more, and the price was so great, I will return again and tell everyone, Absolutely could not fault it.

The hotel was conveniently placed in the city and walking distance to the beach and cafes. I got a very nice dinner in their restaurant and liked it up on the top floor where it was quiet and peaceful. Very good value budget hotel. I would stay here again.

Close to beach and tram line in a quite hilly area. Old style accommodation in need of some TLC. Bedroom quite big with large veranda, no breakfast available but a few cafes nearby. In a quiet area, but tram runs regularly to Interchange..

Grand room 7 is a great vantage point. A short walk to the beach, light rail, cbd, pubs and restaurants. Bolton St parking is across the road, it is pretty cheap.

Beautiful, old historic hotel, built in 1891 and retains many of its original features. Our room, Room 7, was renovated and very large and comfortable. The balcony wrapped round to give great views around the streets. Comfortable king bed. Reasonably priced dining options downstairs. Handy to Newcastle Beach. Street parking was available.

Great location and nice room for a weekend stay. Was a bit worried about the noise level before arriving, but was super quiet on the top floor - no issues.

The only reason I gave facilities a 4 is because it is undergoing renovations. We were not bothered by the renovations at all however. The pub’s poker machines have been removed to make way for a bigger family-friendly bistro area. Great idea! The property has been sensitively restored with great respect shown for its age and period. Facilities received a 4 only because the TV didn’t have ability to stream but that didn’t affect us. The food is great. Our room was surprisingly quiet, especially considering a jazz evening was in progress which is very popular. We didn’t hear it from our room. We had a beaut clean warm spacious room with a good ensuite and a balcony for a very competitive price. The staff were extremely friendly, professional and accommodating including the bar staff, the manager and the cleaner. They all either offered or went above and beyond. The manager even seemed to anticipate my requests before I’d even asked. The location is perfect, being within short walks to a number of beaches, the CBD, the beautiful Newcastle foreshore, King Edward Park, the bogey hole, the ferry to Stockton, lots of cafes and restaurants and the 6km walk to Merewether. Parking can be expensive but we found a free parking space a walk away from the pub and left the car there for the duration of our stay as we just walked everywhere, even at our advanced age! We have been there before and liked it so we went back for longer and would like to go back again sometime. Highly recommend!

I turned the a/c off as it was not required. Why run it when the ambient temp is 24 degrees? I thought the menu and the food was excellent

All the staff were really helpful and friendly. The bed was super comfy, and we loved the "rain"-style shower. The food at the pub downstairs was excellent! The only thing that was a bit of a turnoff is the sliding barndoor for the bathroom, as it leaves about a 1" gap all around the edge. Not a lot of privacy!

I will be back. The team were exceptional. They went over and above and were very friendly and happy. The bed, comfortable, the room, clean. Be sure and order the pork belly…. Yum!

Room 15: Beautifully renovated ‘old world charm’ feel about the room, top floor ocean breeze & city views, walking distance to good food & coffee. Great staff & hearty meals in the bistro.

Der Empfang war eigenartig:Man muß mit seinem Gepäck in das Pub an der Theke stehen und warten.Da das Pub an dem Tag gut besucht und so wurden wir kurz angefertigt. Das Zimmer hat eine gute Größe,auch das Bad und der Balkon.Das Bad ist relativ neu renoviert.Im Zimmer allerdings liegt ein uralter,verstaubter Teppichboden-nichts für Allergiker.Die Matratze ist unglaublich weich und wackelt bei jeder Bewegung wie Wackelpudding.Man sinkt sehr tief ein,wir hatten Rückenschmerzen beim Aufwachen.Das Bett ist viel zu klein für 2 Personen. Das ganze Hotel wirkt sehr alt und verstaubt.Der Preis ist zu hoch dafür. Im Pub sollte man lieber nicht essen,es ist ungenießbar.Beschreibung spare ich mir,da wüßte ich nicht,wo anfangen.Der Kellner hat zwar gefragt,ob's geschmeckt hat,aber dann mit einem Lächeln gegangen.Es interessiert also nicht wirklich.Etwas enttäuschend,vor allem für den Preis. Das Gute:der Jazz-Keller mit live Musik.
