The ambiance in the bar and lounge is very good - particularly as both have open fires. The quality of the breakfast was very good. The room was comfortable, but needed a few maintenance issues resolved.

What a joy to spend 3 nights in a hotel where all the staff were friendly and welcoming and understood the importance of high grade service. The bedroom was bright and spacious with a wonderful bath and shower room. Little touches like a Dyson hairdryer and quality teas anf coffee in abundance made a difference The public rooms were creatively decorated and the bar area welcoming and comfortable. The food was top class and at a competitive price, served in a dining room with wonderful views over the valley. The outside terrace was just another bonus. Ample secure parking I recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Had a very enjoyable stay at The Talbot. Service was second to none and every member of staff was welcoming and helpful. We had a Sunday roast which was superb. The only downside is that the decor is a little tired and it could do with makeover and there is no lift.

Really lovely hotel! Lovely decor, room was great. All staff were lovely we encountered. Bar space is big with fires and the lounge area was nice to sit and have a coffee by the fire. The breakfast was nice and we even managed to use the car charger out front during our stay to top back up ahead of going home. We will be back!

Was very well looked after. Staff couldn't do enough for us & it has a great outdoor space that we were lucky enough with the weather to enjoy.

A beautiful period coaching inn with wonderful views. The staff were amazing, friendly & dedicated to ensuring our stay was pleasurable. For the elderly it is worth mentioning that there is no lift, which makes access to the upper floors somewhat challenging. We found the diner menu somewhat limited & unvarying, but this did not detract from our overall experience sufficiently to completely mar our stay. This is the only reason we cannot give te hotel an overall 5 star rating.

Really friendly staff in the old. It grand hotel. Nice bar and restaurant . Dog friendly with large area for dogs to run free. Large car park . 2 minutes walk from centre of Malton and on main bus route.

Great looking hotel, very comfortable Country House style indoors . Excellent ambiance. Very generous room size and well appointed . Complimentary slippers are a great touch as the tile floor of bathroom is very cold ! Parking is good, a little walk away in the large grounds .

Food was good, albeit had to wait 1.5 hours for Sunday lunch as I believe the dining in the bar area was fully booked, which had a knock on effect in the restaurant....however we were in no rush and had a lovely afternoon there.

The hotel was kept spotless during our stay. The staff were all very friendly & helpful, especially Rhianne! We would recommend the Talbot to anyone looking for a super hotel at a very reasonable price.

Good amount of parking on site. Over the road from the talbot yard and a short walk into the market square. Good for foodies when the Saturday food market is on. We had dinner in the onsite restaurant on the first night of our stay (steak), my partner asked for medium rare but some of it was underdone. He should have raised it at the time but I mentioned it at the end of the meal and and we were highly satisfied with how they addressed it and with utmost professionalism. I asked for mine to be cooked medium and it was lovely and the sticky toffee pudding was lush! (Note that the onion rings are more like onion petals but they were very nice). The bar is a great space for a relaxing drink and there's some nice grounds round the back of the hotel which you can walk round. The room was spacious and clean with a lovely ensuite bathroom, although some of the furniture was a bit tired (chipped paint and one of the bed side lamps blew, which i reported and it was taken away). Despite some of the issues (which were dealt with), I would certainly stay again when back in Malton.

Everything was fine. Nice room , friendly , but not overbearing staff and good breakfast. Lovely building and Malton is a great little market town . However the bathroom was absolutely freezing with no heating whatsoever and windows that didn’t seem to shut properly This was in the middle of a -2 spell of weather and no housekeeping available because we were late and only staying one night

Nice hotel in a historic building. The room was clean and the decor in good condition. The only downside of the building being old was that the heating took some time to be effective (it was unusually freezing cold outside though!). The staff were all friendly and polite, although the service in the bar and restaurants was a little slow. There was plenty of free parking available. Overall a great option for a stay in Malton.

What a well run hotel. Great location. Spotlessly clean, wonderful staff, warm welcome. Had a really good breakfast & now wish we'd had dinner there. Can heartily recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed a very comfortable stay at The Talbot. All staff are incredibly helpful, food is excellent and surroundings are maintained to a high standard.

It does feel very much like you are enjoying a peace of history in comfort so all good. Bathroom cabinet needs some painting under basin.

Room 15 was large and comfortable, although a small TV. View from windows was of a roof only - disappointing given the lovely views in the general area. Food was very good although a choice of fresh fruit juices with breakfast would be expected from this class of hotel

Very comfortable stay, room size was upgraded without extra charge. Lovely big room. Light sleepers may not enjoy the roadside rooms, however this was very comfortable and really nice bathroom and powerful shower. Blackout curtains.

Fabulous hotel on the edge of Malton. Room was huge with a great view over the gardens and river, though if you get room 11 or 12 its a bit hidden away and not properly signed from the staircase. Highlight of the stay was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was professional , courteous and surprisingly all local

Lovely night at The Talbot as we were at an event at The Cook’s Place. The room was bright, airy and spacious, and staff all willing to help. Breakfast was delicious. We’ll definitely choose to stay again.

It was very very good, not just good. But excellent would have been too much of a statement. Staff were really nice and helpful and they did not disappoint. Hotel itself was lovely; room was really good, the bathroom was quite noisy due to noise from kitchen extraction system below, but it wasn’t unbearable. Unfortunately there wasn’t much a view either, but once again not a game changer (room 22 for information). Hotel organisation could be a bit slicker in management but in general it was very good and I would happily stay again, maybe in a different room. Well done to the whole staff team.

The food and staff are absolutely wonderful. The room was beautiful with a canopy bed and a sitting area which was a welcoming area to relax after a day of sightseeing. It's also very well positioned for day adventures to the coast and York. The management team were also very visible for information and they even arranged my laundry. Property is well maintained. Room was clean with good facilities. Restaurant was excellent. Staff were very friendly. However, we were unfortunate and allocated a room on the road side of the hotel. It was very noisy - lorries passing within a few feet of the bedroom window all night. Impossible to sleep from 5:45 onwards.

Loved our stay at The Talbot. The room was lovely, very comfortable, clean and well-appointed. Appreciated the little touches such as Nespresso machine, dyson hairdryer and Divine chocolate bars. The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent. Would definitely stay again. The bedroom would benefit from secondary glazing on the windows, this would have made the room cosier and also improve the ‘eco-rating’.

Stayed at the Talbot a lot, since it first reopened in 2012 and it's been a favourite ever since. Our first visit in recent years and we can see the difference in lots of areas, but not for the better, it seems a little tired now. From a lukewarm reception welcome, via a sleepless night, to a slow, disorganised breakfast service and a lukewarm departure, the place is not was it was. On arrival, we were left to stand around whilst the Receptionist took a long call, our presence not acknowledged by a glance, or even a smile. Little touches that make you feel welcome. Asked for a quiet room and allocated Room 2, but as the night unfolded it seemed we were placed next to some kind of boiler, or aircon unit. Every half an hour, it sprang into action for half an hour, this coupled with a very firm bed, made for a broken night's sleep. On the ground floor, with a lovely view, but had to keep the blackout curtains closed all the time, as people wandered past walking their dogs - maybe some voile curtains would be helpful here, so we had some natural light, a simple fix. Bathrobes mentioned, we had to call Reception to have those provided. Fantastic hot breakfast, but buffet items, cutlery, milk, missing and not replaced, having to chase to get supplied put a damper on things. Check out, asked for £20 supplement for pooch, immediately reduced to £10 when we queried (tariff had just changed - by 100%?!). No cheery interaction, no asking how our stay was, so disappointed.

Have stayed here so many times it feels like home. Staff all incredibly friendly and helpful. Problems are rare but if they've happened the team have gone out of their way to fix it. This is the most dog friendly hotel I've ever stayed at. Although we don't have one now it just adds to the family atmosphere.

The bar is a great space for a relaxing drink and there's some nice grounds round the back of the hotel which you can walk round. The room was spacious and clean with a lovely ensuite bathroom, although some of the furniture was a bit tired (chipped paint and one of the bed side lamps blew, which i reported and it was taken away). Despite some of the issues (which were dealt with), I would certainly stay again when back in Malton.

Warm welcome on arrival. Lovely, large room and modern bathroom. Customer service excellent. Food good but would have appreciated a wider choice for vegetarians. Lovely countryside with places of interest to visit and not far from East coast.

Beautiful hotel full of character and set in a lovely location . Staff very friendly and helpful and breakfast was lovely. Definitely recommend. Look forward to returning in the summer to sit outside and enjoy the amazing view.

Staff (with the exception of whoever is in charge of the kitchen) and allocated room both excellent, let down by the worst full English breakfast I’ve had in a very long time. Cold baked beans, hard poached eggs, undercooked and fatty bacon, greasy mushroom, hard edged black pudding, pale looking sausage. How wrong can get a breakfast?

Stayed here previously. Reception staff friendly and welcoming. Wouldn’t like to eat evening meal here more than twice as menu very limited. Booked our table for 7pm but when they came to take the order didn’t advise us that some item wasn’t available so then had to come back to ask us to change our order. Also we ordered starters but our main meal came before our starters. Plenty to choose from on the breakfast menu and very tasty. Service also good at breakfast

All was good apart from the evening meal. We had 2 roast beefs but the vegetables were rock hard and the roast potatoes looked like boiled potatoes. The beef and yorkshires were fine. Disappointing as the Talbot is always of a high standard with food.

As a signature coaching inn, the quality and cleanliness met with our expectations, however what let the brand down was the food offer, which was at best quite bland and did not live up to previous coaching inn experiences we’ve had at other hotels within the group, which is why we have rated as good not excellent. We avoided the breakfast for this reason and sought a breakfast elsewhere

Beautiful hotel. A pity the food doesn’t live up to much. I had the pasta with rabbit sauce. It was like pasta with gravy granules - really tasteless and not much of it. The chef needs to work on pasta sauces and how to serve them. Hardly lives up to Yorkshire Food Capital.
