We went to Madeira, Porto, and Lisbon for our honeymoons and stayed at four different hotels during our visit, and the Savoy Palace was far and away the best hotel we stayed at. The room and view were both incredible and we really enjoyed the rooftop pool area. We’d absolutely stay here again if we come back to Madeira.

Sehr modernes komfortables Hotel mit riesigem Pool. Meerzugang beim Schwester Hotel Royal Savoy. Die Ventilatoren für die Abluft sind unter den Zimmern und waren auch im 14. Stock noch sehr laut und übertönten das Meeresrauschen. Frühstück war super, die Skybar bietet einen einmaligen Rundblick. Das Gym ist grosszügig und erstklassig ausgerüstet.

Das Hotel ist sehr groß und modern. Besonders schön sind die Pools, vor allem der Pool am Dach. Das Zimmer war großzügig, sauber und das Fitnessstudio gut ausgestattet. Negativ aufgefallen ist uns die Vielzahl an Zusatzkosten. Viele Leistungen, die in dieser Preisklasse von über 550 Euro pro Nacht eigentlich inkludiert sein sollten, kosten extra. Eine Gartenführung 25 Euro, eine Pool-Cabana ab 80 Euro pro Tag. Besonders enttäuschend war, dass der Zugang zum Spa mit Sauna, Indoorpool nicht inkludiert ist. Dafür werden 45€ pro Person/ Tag verlangt. Auf Expedia wurde das nicht klar angegeben. Zudem war uns nicht bewusst, dass es im Hotel weitere exklusive Bereiche gibt, die ausschließlich Gästen von „The Reserve“ vorbehalten sind. Dadurch entsteht schnell das Gefühl, dass man trotz des hohen Zimmerpreises nur eingeschränkten Zugang zum Angebot hat. Im Vergleich zu unserem Aufenthalt im Reid’s Palace, wo Spa, Minibar und andere Annehmlichkeiten bereits enthalten waren, wirkte das Gesamtpaket im Savoy Palace weniger stimmig. The room was spacious and to a high standard. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. Really pleasant and helpful. There are plenty of areas to relax and chill. Lovely pool area, and all the food options were first class. Only thing I wish I’d known earlier was that the Royal next door is the sister hotel and you can access their sea bathing via a connecting footbridge.

Beautiful classy property. A premium price to pay but this property feels ‘worth it’. Breakfast was memorable and high class. Grounds were beautiful and nice big gym facility. You will not be disappointed when you stay here. Make sure to book ocean view! You will not regret it

Fantastic pool; fairly good service. A little over the top on extras. For example ice: 5 Euro charge. The pool service was not good at all. I loved that they left little cards to give to a staff member with exceptional service but I didn’t find someone truly worthy. I would have given it to Bruno. He did save me a ton on my rental car. So please give it to Mr Bruno at the concierge. The partnership with their sister hotel for ocean access was fantastic. I would for sure stay here again. I was quite happy with it. Walking distance to everything.

I loved the hotel, but I didn’t like the fact that the main attraction, which was the restaurant at the top of the roof was closed for the private party on Saturday night. To me that is unacceptable !!! I spend 5 nights there, and my last night and most important one I couldn’t spend where I truly wanted to. Very disappointed. I also found out about it the night before, so I couldn’t plan it better because they didn’t let us know early enough.

The Savoy Palace is high end and perhaps a bit sterile in places. There are a lot of vast, empty public areas which didn’t entice you to sit down with a drink etc. On the positive side, the rooftop bar area was a stunning place to sunbathe, swim in the infinity pool and enjoy a drink with amazing views. The pool areas are wonderful with plenty of loungers and luxury towels provided. All of the hotel staff were great, although checking out was a little bit slow due to a sudden influx of new guests - Monday appears to be changeover day for the timesharers. Breakfast was up there with the best we’ve had at any hotel with lovely service on the terrace. The biggest downside was it was impossible to relax peacefully on our 11th floor superior ocean view balcony. There was a dreadful all day jazz festival close by on the Friday, which went on long into the night. And the Savoy’s sister ‘Next Hotel’ had a lively rooftop bar where the loud music started before sundown and continued until late, even though there appeared to be next to no one there to enjoy it. To a lesser extent, there was the continuous hum of multiple aircon units on nearby buildings. Fortunately the rooms were well soundproofed so the outside noise didn’t leak into the room. We couldn’t make our minds up about Funchal as a destination we liked the city feel and it is a spectacular location albeit it lacks a beachfront feel. We would probably look at a more compact hotel if we do return one day.

Stort och fräscht utbud vid frukostbordet. Magiskt vacker trädgård och poolområde. Mycket rent överallt och rummen städas/fixas två gånger om dagen. Sköna sängar och bra ljudisolerande rum. All personal var trevliga, hjälpsams och kunniga. Hit kommer vi tillbaka.

Staff were always fantastic. We loved the location as it is very close to the center of Funchal, a nice walking distance. Breakfast is also great, and the whole hotel is in excellent condition as it is quite new.

This was the most beautiful hotel I stayed in. It’s grand it has so many restaurants, bars, and pool areas that you need few days to even discover them all. The staff is very accommodating. It’s super clean and they clean rooms multiple times a day as well as the property itself. This hotel is so worth the price you paying. Also if you choose breakfast included it’s excellent.

Prachtig hotel met alle faciliteiten die je je maar kunt wensen en op loopafstand van het centrum van Funchal. Wij hadden een garden room die van alle gemakken was voorzien en waarbij (indien gewenst) house keeping zelfs 2x per dag langs kwam. Mooie badkamer met grote inloopdouche en ligbad. Groot zwembad, diverse restaurants, bars en bijna iedere avond livemuziek. Een klein minpuntje was dat onze garden room recht boven de bar lag en wanneer er livemuziek was, kon je dat in de kamer goed horen. Overigens stopte dit om 23.30 dus niet extreem laat, maar wel als je bijvoorbeeld de volgende ochtend op wil staan voor een hike. We hebben dit aangegeven bij de receptie en zij konden ons een andere (kleinere) kamer aanbieden. Dit wilden we liever niet. Toen zijn ze ons tegemoet gekomen door ons de hele week gratis te laten parkeren, gratis late check out en een drankvoucher voor de bar. Heel netjes opgelost. Ze doen er alles aan om ervoor te zorgen dat de gasten tevreden zijn. Bij een volgend bezoek aan Madeira zouden we zeker weer voor Savoy Palace kiezen!

Overigens stopte dit om 23.30 dus niet extreem laat, maar wel als je bijvoorbeeld de volgende ochtend op wil staan voor een hike. We hebben dit aangegeven bij de receptie en zij konden ons een andere (kleinere) kamer aanbieden. Dit wilden we liever niet. Toen zijn ze ons tegemoet gekomen door ons de hele week gratis te laten parkeren, gratis late check out en een drankvoucher voor de bar. Heel netjes opgelost. Ze doen er alles aan om ervoor te zorgen dat de gasten tevreden zijn. Bij een volgend bezoek aan Madeira zouden we zeker weer voor Savoy Palace kiezen!

This really is a 'leading hotel of the world'. I've been privileged enough to stay in some top hotels around the world and this was one of my favourites. Pristine inside and out. The pool area is stunning. Great bars and dining options. I liked the Galaxia Sky Bar which has fantastic views. Within a very short walk there are some nice restaurants and bars around the hotel. Fantastic breakfast with a huge choice. We had one of the Ocean View rooms on the 10th floor. It's soundproof and super quiet and we weren't disturbed by any noise. Beautiful room, well appointed. I have two minor niggles which are by design. Firstly the air con turns off if you open the balcony door. This is normal but annoyingly it doesn't come back on when you close the door (you need to switch it back on manually at the wall controller). Also I like to be able to find my way to the bathroom in the night but couldn't leave a light on. This is because theres a glass wall between the shower and bedroom. The curtain covering it lets the light through from the bathroom so it's too bright to sleep (we resorted to leaving the vanity mirror turned on and pointing it in the opposite direction). The staff are super friendly and the service is excellent. We hope to return to Funchal in the future and will definitely stay here again if we do.

This hotel is very nice, as it should be for the price. Beautifully decorated, great location, lovely facilities/amenities. Once we arrived, the bellhop offered to take our suitcases to our room. It took them 2 hours to deliver to our room which caused us to be late for events we had scheduled. Additionally, I immediately noticed our room was quite hot and flagged it to the staff asking if they could take a look. For 3 days our AC was not really working and I talked to reception 4 times about it with no real resolution. They continued to ask if our balcony door was shut all the way (of course, it was) and said they would send someone. We waited up on our last night for over 90 minutes (until midnight) for someone to come, and no one did. Frustrating experience. Overall, this hotel is quite nice but we had a frustrating experience with it, especially for the price. Room for improvement I suppose.

The hotel and surroundings were beautiful and staff were lovely. We had a standard room, which was sizeable, however I was disappointed by the lack of storage space. Very few areas to store clothing meant clothes remained in the suitcase, and the space for suitcases was very poorly lit. This was frustrating as I could not easily select clothing and had to resort to the flashlight on my mobile phone to see inside of my case. A few extra drawers would have made my experience much better, and this seems such an oversight for a five star resort.

This hotel was exceptional. The staff were really friendly and the breakfast buffet was impressive. Pros: -clean spacious rooms -friendly staff -breakfast buffet and many other restaurants on site -spa on site Cons: -no privacy in the bathrooms. No locks on the doors and curtains on the shower that open to the bedroom -no privacy fan -no shelving or extra hooks in bathroom so nowhere to place your belongings -sinks had taps.on the counters so water gets everywhere -buffet breakfast didn't have too many.vegan options and items such as grilled veggies were not marked vegan and not served in the vegan area so could be potentially problematic for those with allergies Suggestions: -breakfast open eaelier for those with early morning flights -add a lunch buffet or extend breakfast until 1pm -spa was so expensive for what we received

Beautiful classy property. A premium price to pay but this property feels ‘worth it’. Breakfast was memorable and high class. Grounds were beautiful and nice big gym facility. You will not be disappointed when you stay here. Make sure to book ocean view! You will not regret it

Amazing room. We stayed in the garden room and it was large and spacious, very clean and luxurious. We only stayed a couple of nights but more hanging space/drawers would be required for a long stay. We stayed for our anniversary and we were surprised with sparkling wine and chocolate cake which made it special.

The Savoy Palace is high end and perhaps a bit sterile in places. There are a lot of vast, empty public areas which didn’t entice you to sit down with a drink etc. On the positive side, the rooftop bar area was a stunning place to sunbathe, swim in the infinity pool and enjoy a drink with amazing views. The pool areas are wonderful with plenty of loungers and luxury towels provided. All of the hotel staff were great, although checking out was a little bit slow due to a sudden influx of new guests - Monday appears to be changeover day for the timesharers. Breakfast was up there with the best we’ve had at any hotel with lovely service on the terrace. The biggest downside was it was impossible to relax peacefully on our 11th floor superior ocean view balcony. There was a dreadful all day jazz festival close by on the Friday, which went on long into the night. And the Savoy’s sister ‘Next Hotel’ had a lively rooftop bar where the loud music started before sundown and continued until late, even though there appeared to be next to no one there to enjoy it. To a lesser extent, there was the continuous hum of multiple aircon units on nearby buildings. Fortunately the rooms were well soundproofed so the outside noise didn’t leak into the room. We couldn’t make our minds up about Funchal as a destination we liked the city feel and it is a spectacular location albeit it lacks a beachfront feel. We would probably look at a more compact hotel if we do return one day.

I can’t emphasise enough how great the hotel is and how attentive the staff are. The hotel itself is spectacular and there are so many activities and restaurants to visit that you’ll never get bored - even then, this hotel is located in the perfect location for you to go and explore Funchal. The hotel staff were also great in helping us plan our trip accordingly, especially for the time we had in Madeira - to the point that they even asked if we had seen any companies that we’d like to use for tours etc, rather than showing us ones that are affiliated with the hotel. Massive thanks to Beatrice in concierge! All I can say is, we will definitely be back!

Service hat am Pool sehr lange gebraucht, aktives zugehen ist für die Fremdwort. An einem Tag hat sich niemand bemüht mal zu den hinteren liegen zu kommen, damit man mal etwas bestellen hätte können. Frühstücksservice deutlich besser, allerdings auch hier mal fragen ob man noch etwas braucht kommt bei fast allen Service Kräften vor. Empfang ist super freundlich und hilfsbereit.

A firm favourite of ours where we’ve stayed 3 times now. Gorgeous hotel, extremely comfortable. Extremely central. Huge pool with plenty of sunloungers (be prepared for expensive day beds and Bali beds). Service at pool and restaurants is friendly if not always efficient. Front desk staff should learn to pretend to be happy for you to be here and change their snooty attitude though.

Lovely hotel, however when we arrived we were just given our keys and shown the lifts - very little information from the clerk, despite the large number of staff on duty. We felt that limited our stay as we were unsure of all facilities.

As the top hotel in the area the biggest issue for me was the customer service. The hotel is beautiful and rooms are stunning. You have everything you need and more. Gym needs a bit of improvement and better lighting. But the worst was the poolside service. Several days people were trying to chase down servers and ask for drinks/food. Nobody is around to serve you and when you ask, towel guys can’t help and say it’s a normal complaint. The service at the root was extremely rude and slow too. Again, hotel is beautiful but you expect top service at a five star hotel.

Het was een hele fijne plek op loopafstand van de stad maar ook gelegen in een leuke wijkje. De botanische look en feel was heel fijn en het zwembad was heel mooi en super fijn. Het ontbijt was ook fantastisch. We gaan zeker ooit terugkomen.

First stay at the Savoy and it was a great experience . The breakfast and the swimming pool were very good. The staff were very helpful. It is a bit on the hill, so you have to walk up-and-down to get to the Old Town Center. It's about two kilometre away from the indoor market. Lovely stay

The room was spacious and to a high standard. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. Really pleasant and helpful. There are plenty of areas to relax and chill. Lovely pool area, and all the food options were first class. Only thing I wish I’d known earlier was that the Royal next door is the sister hotel and you can access their sea bathing via a connecting footbridge.

Beautiful hotel with excellent staff and amenities. The breakfast options were plentiful and delicious. Amazing views from the room out onto the sea. We enjoyed the ocean access via the sister Savoy property below. Very close to old town area and marina. Plenty of excellent dining options in walking distance.

The Savoy Palace is high end and perhaps a bit sterile in places. There are a lot of vast, empty public areas which didn’t entice you to sit down with a drink etc. On the positive side, the rooftop bar area was a stunning place to sunbathe, swim in the infinity pool and enjoy a drink with amazing views. The pool areas are wonderful with plenty of loungers and luxury towels provided. All of the hotel staff were great, although checking out was a little bit slow due to a sudden influx of new guests - Monday appears to be changeover day for the timesharers. Breakfast was up there with the best we’ve had at any hotel with lovely service on the terrace. The biggest downside was it was impossible to relax peacefully on our 11th floor superior ocean view balcony. There was a dreadful all day jazz festival close by on the Friday, which went on long into the night. And the Savoy’s sister ‘Next Hotel’ had a lively rooftop bar where the loud music started before sundown and continued until late, even though there appeared to be next to no one there to enjoy it. To a lesser extent, there was the continuous hum of multiple aircon units on nearby buildings. Fortunately the rooms were well soundproofed so the outside noise didn’t leak into the room. We couldn’t make our minds up about Funchal as a destination we liked the city feel and it is a spectacular location albeit it lacks a beachfront feel. We would probably look at a more compact hotel if we do return one day.

Beautiful property, but not ideal for a relaxing vacation. The hotel requires advance reservations for restaurants and sticks to a strict schedule for most activities. Food and drinks aren’t available by the pool after a certain time, and if you don’t pre-book, your only dining options might be offsite or very late 10 p.m. One major letdown was the dress code—many of the better restaurants required dress shoes, which isn’t practical when traveling through Europe with light luggage. We’ve been to locations around the world that require nice dress code but don’t impose dress shoes on 12 year olds. Overall, it felt too rigid for a laid-back getaway. They probably lost 2K from us dining. Not coming back.

This hotel was exceptional. The staff were really friendly and the breakfast buffet was impressive. Pros: -clean spacious rooms -friendly staff -breakfast buffet and many other restaurants on site -spa on site Cons: -no privacy in the bathrooms. No locks on the doors and curtains on the shower that open to the bedroom -no privacy fan -no shelving or extra hooks in bathroom so nowhere to place your belongings -sinks had taps.on the counters so water gets everywhere -buffet breakfast didn't have too many.vegan options and items such as grilled veggies were not marked vegan and not served in the vegan area so could be potentially problematic for those with allergies Suggestions: -breakfast open eaelier for those with early morning flights -add a lunch buffet or extend breakfast until 1pm -spa was so expensive for what we received

Savoy Palace provided an excellent venue to enjoy a winter break. From arrival we noted friendly, helpful and efficient service from all hotel staff. This hotel provides a broad range of facilities on site and it is well located to allow access to Old and 'New' Funchal. Excellent catering and bar facilities on site, including an impressive breakfast, that is available between 7am and 11am, and a good selection of bars/restaurants within 20minutes walk. Great venue for a comfortable and relaxing break.

Nice property, lovely beautiful room with a lovely bathroom. The rooms were wonderfully cleaned by housekeeping which we appreciated. Couple of things that popped up: 1. As we checked in, a couple queued after us and were given an immediate free upgrade to a superior ocean room but we didn’t nor were we offered. There felt an underlying unconscious bias which was a shame. We are brown and this was my birthday trip, so that was a disappointing start. 2. The afternoon tea was very disappointing.

Room maid service was often late but room itself was very good. The Hotel was impressive in its public rooms and guest facilities. Only the Pau de Lume restaurant disappointing but three others tried were very good. Spectacular and convenient.
