The location was excellent and the staff at the front desk as well as the door men were very attentive and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and there are a ton of local options for food. My biggest negative is it's impossible to get a lounger by the pool. I spent 6 days here in Madeira, and I like to get up and out each morning for sight-seeing. Coming back to the hotel each afternoon to no chairs at the pool was a real bummer, because I couldn't really enjoy the property itself. My other negative is that restaurant service is verrrrry slow. I'd sometime wait 15 minutes to just get coffee at breakfast or a drink by the pool bar at the afternoon. Both these factors would make me look elsewhere next time, which is a shame, because the hotel itself and the location is great.

Beautiful hotel with nice amenities. Service in all restaurants is below standards. Thought it would be just one bad experience but it turned out it was all of them. Parking is free but you have better chance at winning lottery. Three days in a row could not even access the lot. Paid parking was available but it’s expensive. Lots of shopping nearby by and close proximity to downtown was perfect.

We loved our stay at the Pestana. The amenities were amazing, we loved the pools and options for sea swimming plus sauna, steam room and jacuzzi in the spa. Our room was kept very clean throughout our stay, thank you Tania! The hotel staff were warm, informative and welcoming. We will be back soon!

I have been staying at the Pestana Carlton for many, many years ( since 1990's) and am ALWAYS looking forward to going back! The hotel location is superb, the access to the sea wonderful, the various swimming pools and hotel facilities pretty good and most of all, every single member of staff treats us like family! All staff is very professional, hard working and they all make you feel welcome. Just returned from a 5 week holiday at the Carlton and cannot wait to book again!

Die Lage vom Hotel ist perfekt. Sehr zentral, sodass man nie weit laufen muss und auch diw Aussicht ist atemberaubend. Leider kann man das "Gym" wirklich nicht so bezeichnen. Drei Cardio Geräte sind für mich kein Fitnessstudio.

A wonderful hotel with fantastic staff. Everything was clean and of a high standard, with a great sea view. It was lovely to be able to swim in the sea, and the pools were clean and well maintained. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection and many new items every day. The best part was the man who made fresh omelettes daily, increadibly service-minded, smiling and friendly. Second time at this hotel, and be back - love everything with it. Close to lovely restaurants and bus 9 to the airport.

The amenities were less than expected. The pools and hottub, although beautiful, were cold. The fitness center was in the pool area. The restaurant was expensive and the buffet food was tasteless and boring. The carafe coffee was awful! And the parking was expensive.

Beautiful room grounds and location. Staff amazing. But we had ants in our room air conditioning not strong enough to cool room had to leave on all day and blinds closed to cool. Safe instruction not correct, but replaced safe to one with proper instructions. Has salon on site which i used and was good for wash and blow dry. Room was spacious and large bathroom.

Everything was nice but felt that the housekeeping should do a better job of replenshing, toiletries, teas, face cloths, towels.. rooms were cleaned but never replenished. Also never were beach towels exchanged for new ones. Breakfast was good but felt some of food items could had been changed up a bit

The property was beautiful and pools and amenities excellent. Wonderful and attentive service. However our room was very old and looks to have not been updated since the mid 80’s. The toilet was so old there were water stains from the running water in the bowl and the toilet constantly ran. They were quick to fix it when I advised however by end of stay it was running again. It should be replaced. The Tv was heavily damaged and should have been replaced years ago. Once I advised the replaced asap with new one. However that tv should have been replaced well before our stay and makes me think there do not do regular service checks. The bed however was excellent and new and we had a wonderful nights sleep and the room was always cleaned. Other then the lack of room updates the property was wonderful. Would stay again but would confirm the room has been updated in at least the last decade.

The location was great and the receptionists were very helpful. However, i would say this hotel has become run down with main furniture items being cleaned but furniture that isn’t really seen (side table for example) are filled with dust. The other workers (at the pub, bars and restaurant) were not friendly - looking annoyed when asked for a menu… the beds are not comfortable at all!! We were not able to have a full nights sleep as the bed was hard as a rock and the A/C made so much noise and did not cool down the room at all. The pool was also freezing and filled with debris and bugs. However, the pool at the very bottom was clean I’ll give it that. Overall, not very impressed and wouldn’t stay here again.

Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen.

Well presented Hotel, with lovely Pool Gardens and Public areas. Helpful and friendly staff. Great location, short walk into Funchal. Only negative was that the room was sometimes noisy, as there was an inter-connecting door, so we could hear the people in the next room. Would recommend.

This hotel had a great location and was walkable to many restaurants, Bars and shopping. The only problem we had was with the AC, not working. Breakfast that was included was good.

Overall a pleasant stay. The rooms are spacious. If you get a room facing the street and taxi stand it will be noisy at night as there are vars and restaurants across the street. The front desk staff are helpful. Breakfast gets very busy after 830 am and the tables aren't cleared fast enough and glasses and bowls need to be replenished often. It is a 20 minute walk to Funchal and coming back from Funchal there is a medium incline that requires some energy so this is not for everyone, especially if you are carrying bottles of alcohol or lots of souveneirs. Overall no major issues.

The property was beautiful and pools and amenities excellent. Wonderful and attentive service. However our room was very old and looks to have not been updated since the mid 80’s. The toilet was so old there were water stains from the running water in the bowl and the toilet constantly ran. They were quick to fix it when I advised however by end of stay it was running again. It should be replaced. The Tv was heavily damaged and should have been replaced years ago. Once I advised the replaced asap with new one. However that tv should have been replaced well before our stay and makes me think there do not do regular service checks. The bed however was excellent and new and we had a wonderful nights sleep and the room was always cleaned. Other then the lack of room updates the property was wonderful. Would stay again but would confirm the room has been updated in at least the last decade.

The location was excellent and the staff at the front desk as well as the door men were very attentive and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and there are a ton of local options for food. My biggest negative is it's impossible to get a lounger by the pool. I spent 6 days here in Madeira, and I like to get up and out each morning for sight-seeing. Coming back to the hotel each afternoon to no chairs at the pool was a real bummer, because I couldn't really enjoy the property itself. My other negative is that restaurant service is verrrrry slow. I'd sometime wait 15 minutes to just get coffee at breakfast or a drink by the pool bar at the afternoon. Both these factors would make me look elsewhere next time, which is a shame, because the hotel itself and the location is great.

The downside is that the hotel is so large that there is no personal touch. Most of the staff were pleasant but didn’t go over and above to make you feel welcome. The rooms were adequate but could use updating. The balcony has beautiful views of the harbor and ocean.

The Pestana was only 20 mins from the airport, very convenient. The hotel and it's staff were absolutely fantastic. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with smiles. The reception staff were friendly and very efficient. The restaurant staff were so obliging and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed the week we stayed, great choice for our wedding anniversary. Highly recommended.

A wonderful hotel with fantastic staff. Everything was clean and of a high standard, with a great sea view. It was lovely to be able to swim in the sea, and the pools were clean and well maintained. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection and many new items every day. The best part was the man who made fresh omelettes daily, increadibly service-minded, smiling and friendly. Second time at this hotel, and be back - love everything with it. Close to lovely restaurants and bus 9 to the airport.

A wonderful place to stay. The staff were all excellent and very helpful - including when my husband got sick and they helped me to call a doctor, and enquired after his health the next day. They helped with booking and then subsequently rearranging excursions too. I'd highly recommend this hotel as a place to both relax by the ocean, and as a base for exploring Funchal.

Well presented Hotel, with lovely Pool Gardens and Public areas. Helpful and friendly staff. Great location, short walk into Funchal. Only negative was that the room was sometimes noisy, as there was an inter-connecting door, so we could hear the people in the next room. Would recommend.

The hotel is in a great location, with a walkable area and a lot of restaurants around it. We stayed in a room with pool view and were actually able to walk out the room and go straight to the pool. There also was an ocean view from our room, although we never got down to the beach. The staff was friendly and all the amenities were fine. Free parking was limited, especially since it was also being used by the locals.
The hotel is in a great location, with a walkable area and a lot of restaurants around it. We stayed in a room with pool view and were actually able to walk out the room and go straight to the pool. There was no cofee maker in room i knew it by reviews so I had taken my small cofee maker and cofee. There is kettle in room.there dinner buffet has very limmited hot meal choice.

Hotellet virket slidt, og møblerne i morgenmadsrestaurant var plettede og grænsende til det uækre. Morgenmadsbuffetten var baseret på mange mennesker, hvilket også afspejledes i kvaliteten. F eks var bacon ikke færdigstegt. Personalet var alle steder venligt og hjælpsomt. Parkeringsforhold var under mangelfulde, og man undlod, at oplyse om at der 100 meter fra hotellet lå en konkurrende p-kælder, der endda var billigere. Så pris og kvalitet hænger ikke sammen, og vi vender ikke tilbage.

Personal mega, mega freundlich! Einrichtung in den oberen Etagen in die Jahre gekommen aber sind dabei zu renovieren! Frühstück für jeden etwas dabei wenn man was bekommt! Die letzen drei Tage keine Teller, Tassen Glasschüsselchen für Honig oder so Semmeln, Brot, usw. leider alles Mangelware! Sobald es kam war es schon wieder weck! Sind dann aufgestanden und haben irgenwo Regional gefrühstückt!

The amenities were less than expected. The pools and hottub, although beautiful, were cold. The fitness center was in the pool area. The restaurant was expensive and the buffet food was tasteless and boring. The carafe coffee was awful! And the parking was expensive.

Very great location, swimming pool areas, access to ocean and nice food. Nice room quite spacious as well as the bathroom with tub. Many restaurants and bars. However only one free parking for just 20 cars, the other parking in front of the hotel is quite expensive more than 25€ per day and they don’t have any convention. Other free parking in the streets only from 20 to 8am and need to go round and round to find some free.
