Took a bet on nine nights in this place and they did not disappoint. Terrific value for money. Terrific staff, very comfortable beds, and I love the pub that is attached - good food and beer!

We arrived and were welcomed by the staff. My wife is a celiac and the team were able to cater her with even meal and breakfast without hassle. Portion size, speed of service, quality of food and beer were all excellent. Good selections of gin. Ample parking. Great Value

The disabled room for my lovely wife was excellent. A good shower with a seat, and a comfortable double bed. The staff went out of their way to make our anniversary weekend very special. The menu was for dinner was good and the breakfast exceptional and hot!! Parking outside the rooms was convenient and the tea/coffee making facilities perfect.

Booked the deluxe room, however, things were not as clean as could be. The toilet was left with dirty markers in it. ( no loo brush to clean it ). There was soap foam on the wall in the shower ( from previous guests). The bed sheets had black marks on both the top sheet and the bottom. The pillow protector was dirty. These things were just careless cleaning.

Disappointing stay at this hotel. Room was dirty (hairs in the bath) and in a state of disrepair. Reception staff are hardly ever there if you have any issues. The pub staff were rude and unprofessional and the management team ignore your feedback and comments. Rooms were not at all like the photos advertised. We found mould patches on the walls as well as patches on the walls where things had been removed and not filled in or plastered over. There was also hair in the bath when we arrived…not very pleasant especially when children have to use it. Breakfast in the pub was a let down - both the food and service. We walked into the pub at 8.55am as the doors were open (breakfast was meant to be served from 9am). There were no staff around and when someone finally appeared we were practically told off for coming in before 9am and told we would have to wait as the tills weren’t in yet and the chef hadn’t even arrived (!). It’s a shame because the pub itself is so nicely decorated but the staff and the hotel rooms really let the place down. Really poor value for money and we won’t be returning!

Rooms are spacious and warm (November stay). Great staff, nothing was to much trouble. Evening meal & Breakfast bap wasn’t great. stayed previously and food has always been good. Only recommendation I would give, the rooms are getting tired and could do with modernising, On saying that the beds are comfortable and considering the mix of clientele, Couples, Families, Contractors there was no noise and a good nights sleep.

Nice comfortable room. It was very warm and whilst there was no aircon there was at least a fan in the room. Breakfast was good, Sunday Roast was plentiful and reasonably priced. Good selection of drinks in the bar. Above all though the saff were all lovely. Will definitely stay again if in this aeea.

We stayed a few times previously when it was a Premier Inn, and this was a big improvement. The room was really nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Check in was over the pub bar and staff weren't too helpful, just taking the money and giving me the key, with no offer of any further help. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that. Overall good value and will probably return.

This was a perfect little hotel we'd found by chance. We were at a concert so we only needed a nice bed, but this hotel was so much more. The superior suite was beautifully presented. Modern with a traditional boutique cottage feel. The check-in was in the connected pub which was also just as nice. Check-in was simple. The staff were brilliant and friendly. Our room had everything we needed. The shower was better than mine at home. And the breakfast the next day was the best I've had in a long time! Was just a shame we weren't there for another night for something because we'd have made more use of the pub and could do with another comfy night in that bed before going back to the working week!!

Frosty staff...Horrible stay I would avoid if you dont want aggression and attitude on your morning before the coffee is poured. Dont order in the wrong position at bar or ask any normal questions. Like where do i go to find my room or what is the wifi...all too much and met with agression and surlyness from the lead female on duty. Just horrible at every engagement. Frozen brake brother tray food. Bread not even cooked and frozen in middle. No redourse or response. Teasppon of scrambled egg on wet bread for breakfast. Embarrassing as invited business partner to stay as well. Stayed two nights, two mornings, second night we ordered in rather than eat here. Second breakfast male server, most excellent.

I was in the room farthest away from the Reception, not great when you are disabled and need crutches to walk. I went to the Restaurant for my evening meal and was advised by the waitress to sit at any table. I sat down and waited for almost 40 minutes for someone to take my order. No one arrived, and no food was served in the part of the restaurant I was sitting in. After this time, I left and went back to my room. Reception then told me I was supposed to order at the bar. No mention of this on signs or menus. I didn't bother with breakfast this morning and left. The room was cold - no instructions on how to activate radiators, etc. No milk with coffee. Good job I had brought my own.

Good size room, formerly a Premier Inn to give an idea of size and layout and now owned by Holt brewery. Quiet spot off A-road with lots of parking. Check-in at reception in pub building next-door. Pub building nicely decorated and furnished. Breakfast was exceptional, good choice and the Full English was the best we've had for ages! Also had dinner here, Thursday night is curry night with full menu also available. Food was good, hot and plenty. Pub/hotel staff very helpful and friendly. Bus stop just around corner serving local towns and Warrington. Rarely come to this area but would definitely stay again.

The hotel was exactly what we required, convenient and ideally located just off the motorway. Quiet at nights, comfortable and clean. The staff that we encountered were all very friendly and welcoming. The food in the neighbouring pub was first class. We would definitely use this hotel again when in the area.

The Cat and Lion was a convenient one night stay following a family funeral. We arrived mid evening Reception was closed but our room key was available in the adjoining pub. The room was large, clean and comfortable and reasonably quiet considering it was next to the pub. Breakfast next morning was excellent. Overall a good stay.

This hotel was an interesting hotel with a social history. It is situated conveniently and there is a lovely walk leading to a leafy park across the road. There was a quaint old post-office on the corner where I could get basic toiletries etc. Our only criticism was that the traditional family beer was off, the duvet was far too luxurious for hot summer temperatures and we could not open the window sufficiently because of a security wire. It was a very close, hot night. Otherwise, we were impressed by the value and cleanliness.

Not so great they need to separate the reception from the bar kept getting told off for not standing in the correct bit? And others too very annoying considering it was in the same room with a 12” post separating them! Hairs in my shower had to wash away and the dinner was very poor chicken was processed and like rubber though the menu looked good I left it! Breakfast was good but moody waitress was not!

Room was a little dark and outdated but spacious and clean with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Nothing fundamentally wrong with anything at the Cat and Lion, it just left me with a sense of everything being cut down to a price. No staff in the hotel lobby but clear directions to let you know to check in at the pub. Food range was limited. I went for the fresh baked pizza. It was severely lacking in toppings and felt overpriced. The breakfast had tinned mushrooms, the thinnest slice of black pudding I have ever seen (less than one centimetre thick) which meant it was overcooked and tough as a biscuit. The rest of the dish was okay, reasonably cooked and tasty enough, just felt that someone was cutting corners. As I say, nothing fundamentally wrong, just a bit underwhelming. It was a striking contrast to my stay the following night at the Grantham Arms in Boroughbridge, which was superb and for a difference of £2 overall.

The entire place is in need of much TLC. We were allocated an accessible room which we didn't need/request therefore wash hand basin, mirrors etc were much lower. It didn't make for a comfortable stay. Food was either under or overcooked. Definitely won't be back!

Fantastic sleep, perfect for what we paid/needed, the only complaint was that the full English breakfast wasn't the best (just no real flavour/seasoning, no one in the group finished theirs) but great room slept like a log even though we were the first room on the ground floor, pub attached is great, staff were excellent

Check in was very easy, breakfast times and checkout times explained by friendly, helpful staff. We booked a table for the evening, the meals were delicious and didn't take too long to come out, also the drinks reasonable. The room itself was clean, comfortable and well appointed for the price with plenty of sockets for both our teenage daughters electronic devices, hair straightener etc. The fact that breakfast is included in the price makes it extremely good value.
