Firstly the staff service make this place extra special.This is our 2nd stay and we were delighted to find we were given an extra special room overlooking the church. The breakfasts are good and the lounge area by the fire is very welcoming.

Nice hotel in a nice place/town. Staff were really nice and welcoming and breakfast was really nice. Garden was really nice for sitting with a drink and enjoying your surroundings. Room was really nice and clean, with an excellent bathroom. Have stayed there previously and will stay again in the future.

Really nice small hotel with excellent friendly staff, good food, very clean and welcoming. A great alternative to the local chain hotels. Only small negative was the parking is obver the (busy) road and is payable separately.

Nice hotel close to the lively high street. Friendly staff, great food and a popular and lively bar. The room had coffee/tea making facilities and was clean although the floor was uneven (old building I guess) which was unsettling at first until I got used to it. Could have done with some disposable plastic cups in the bathroom for use after brushing teeth etc. No elevator (lift) so the stairs to the second floor were a bit of a struggle for an old guy with bad knees and luggage so be prepared but otherwise it was fine. The rooms use 'old fashioned' keys which I thought was nice but they are a security risk in my opinion because it has the hotel address and room number on the tag so if you lose the key, anyone who finds it could just get into your room. Anonymous card keys are much more secure and you can slip them into your wallet/purse. No on site parking so choices are on the street or in St Peter's car park opposite. The first three hours in the car park are free but after that it is pay by machine, phone or app. The machine was out of service and as I had a foreign phone number I never got the app working, not could I just pay by phone for some reason. In the end I parked on the street although a couple of time I had to park at the other end of the high street but it's not too far to walk.

The pub itself was cute but was noisy until about midnight as we were directly above. The staff were really friendly and kindly showed us to our room. The shower was good, the room was clean and the bed was comfy, but there was damage to the walls that had been filled but not finished. Also the bell ringing started about 9am Sunday morn so no need for an alarm.

We stayed at this wonderful hotel as we were attending the horse racing at haydock race course. The room was beautiful , the bed was divine and I slept so comfortably! There was a fan which was needed as the weather was hot (a shark fan - which is a real luxury touch) also tea and coffee making facilities, water, hairdryer, dressing table with accessible plugs! It was my husband's 40th and we had just got married and Poppy brought a bottle of fizz to our room which was such a lovely suprise and we were so incredibly impressed! Unfortunately we didn't have time to eat in the restaurant but it smelt delicious and the pricing seemed very reasonable. We enjoyed a few drinks before leaving for the racing and the 3 girls on the bar (sorry ladies I didn't ask your names!) were so friendly and made drink recommendations based on my taste preference, they were very professional. Overall a fantastic experience from start to finish ,I will certainly be returning to this hotel and highly recommend! Thank you to all the staff , you truly made our stay incredible. Forever grateful.

It was incredibly noisy until nearly 11.30 p.m. at night, then the transition from those drinking to their rooms, meant loud phone calls, and snoring, heard by all through the thin walls. Ok if you are on a leisure trip, terrible for those of us here for work with an early rise. Positives, bed and pillows comfortable. Staff and food were lovely.

Expensive for what it is & road noise in the room at the front very bad. Its located on a main road, rooms at rhe front are plagued by traffic noise all night long in addition to rhe church bells every hour. Hard working staff on arrival & during the evening. Breakfast service was slow. I stay away alot & while it was nice overall (if you ignore the noise) too much for me as they are (nice) rooms above a pub style 'hotel'

We were upgraded to a fantastic room.It was huge!! v comfortable clean. Nice touches. Staff at the restaurant/bar were v approachable... nothing was too much trouble with rapid service for drinks/food even at busy times. Breakfast was a good selection and very tasty.

Didn’t find the hotel staff friendly at all ,no one to man the reception desk checking in or checking out ,we came home late to find the door locked and couldn’t get in ,rang the front door bell but no answer was feeling very vulnerable and worried at this time ,until I shouted through the letterbox and a man came to open the door ,we think you could do with better lighting in the rooms and a full length mirror would be good ,just another thing the church bells chime all the time ,was nice to start with but became annoying when you wher trying to rest

Perfect location at the outskirts of Liverpool for a weekend break. The staff were top notch , very professional and friendly. The room was comfortable, with coffee / tea facilities, and a good power shower. Breakfast had both continental and à la carte cooked breakfast! Perfect location at the outskirts of Liverpool for a weekend break. The staff were top notch , very professional and friendly. The room was comfortable, with coffee / tea facilities, and a good power shower. Breakfast had both continental and à la carte cooked breakfast! We stayed at this wonderful hotel as we were attending the horse racing at haydock race course. The room was beautiful , the bed was divine and I slept so comfortably! There was a fan which was needed as the weather was hot (a shark fan - which is a real luxury touch) also tea and coffee making facilities, water, hairdryer, dressing table with accessible plugs! It was my husband's 40th and we had just got married and Poppy brought a bottle of fizz to our room which was such a lovely suprise and we were so incredibly impressed! Unfortunately we didn't have time to eat in the restaurant but it smelt delicious and the pricing seemed very reasonable. We enjoyed a few drinks before leaving for the racing and the 3 girls on the bar (sorry ladies I didn't ask your names!) were so friendly and made drink recommendations based on my taste preference, they were very professional. Overall a fantastic experience from start to finish ,I will certainly be returning to this hotel and highly recommend! Thank you to all the staff , you truly made our stay incredible. Forever grateful.

The pub itself was cute but was noisy until about midnight as we were directly above. The staff were really friendly and kindly showed us to our room. The shower was good, the room was clean and the bed was comfy, but there was damage to the walls that had been filled but not finished. Also the bell ringing started about 9am Sunday morn so no need for an alarm.

Expensive for what it is & road noise in the room at the front very bad. Its located on a main road, rooms at rhe front are plagued by traffic noise all night long in addition to rhe church bells every hour. Hard working staff on arrival & during the evening. Nice hotel close to the lively high street. Friendly staff, great food and a popular and lively bar. The room had coffee/tea making facilities and was clean although the floor was uneven (old building I guess) which was unsettling at first until I got used to it. Could have done with some disposable plastic cups in the bathroom for use after brushing teeth etc. No elevator (lift) so the stairs to the second floor were a bit of a struggle for an old guy with bad knees and luggage so be prepared but otherwise it was fine. The rooms use 'old fashioned' keys which I thought was nice but they are a security risk in my opinion because it has the hotel address and room number on the tag so if you lose the key, anyone who finds it could just get into your room. Anonymous card keys are much more secure and you can slip them into your wallet/purse. No on site parking so choices are on the street or in St Peter's car park opposite. The first three hours in the car park are free but after that it is pay by machine, phone or app. The machine was out of service and as I had a foreign phone number I never got the app working, not could I just pay by phone for some reason. In the end I parked on the street although a couple of time I had to park at the other end of the high street but it's not too far to walk.
