Hampton Inn & Suites Rapid City Rushmore

I liked the fire pits.

The location was very convenient. There's Walmart supercenter right next door that's easier to walk to than drive. Numerous restaurants are very close by. The room itself was good-sized. Huge TV with Netflix already loaded for you to sign in. The beds were very comfortable. Daily breakfast menu changed each of the three days we were there, which was very nice. There were only two negatives for me, but they were enough to affect the overall rating. The hot water in the shower never got hot. Warm was the best I got. It didn't matter if it was in the morning or the evening. We never actually got hot water. Lastly was the pool. The setup was nice, and the slide was cool, but the pool itself was nasty. There was a very definitive scum line around the entire pool. The water was very cloudy, even though there was a strong chlorine smell. There is also a lack of chairs, tables, and loungers. A total of 4 loungers. 2 small side tables with 2 chairs and a larger table with 4 chairs. There was also a couch like bench set up, but a very big overall lack of seating when there were more than 4 families there. The pool was a big reason we picked this spot, and it was nowhere near as nice as we expected.

The front desk staff was the friendliest I have ever dealt with. You started to feel like you knew them coming and going. Room was clean, bigger than I expected, the pool was in great shape and so nice not having a chlorine pool. Laundry machines were in good shape and the kids found a pool table they enjoyed. Breakfast was great and food kept stocked up. 5 of us in a room that slept 6 - I think another set of drawers would be useful because if there were 6 of us staying 4 nights someone would have had to live out of their suitcase. But overall we loved the room.

The staff was great. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good. The biggest disappointment was the pool. It was not heated at all. Given that one of the main reasons we chose this place was the pool, it was enough of a disappointment that we will be looking for another place next time we travel to Rapid City.

Best part, very friendly reception staff. Very limited parking, in evening saw people circling the parking lot looking for an empty spot, without success. This hotel is joined at the hip with the Hilton Tru and can walk from one to the other via the indoor corridors. Room although very large, seemed to have been cleaned in a hurry and without the proper due care. Had a slight smell, unsure what or where it was coming from. Armchair had nasty looking stains on it so had to put down a towel before sitting on it. This chair isn't fit to be in a cheap motel room, let alone in a Hampton Inn! Bed was decent but the pillows felt like an seriously under inflated balloon. Shower pressure was ok but the water was only warm even on full heat. The 2 bedside lamps and desk lamp do not provide enough light even when all switched on as the only ceiling light was above the entry door. Breakfast was ok at best both in terms of tast and item selection, nothing special. Not up to the standard of other Hampton Inns that we have stayed in.

I would have given this hotel a five star rating except for one important issue. As soon as I got in the elevator I noticed a very strong, noxious odor like burning oil. I notified the front desk clerk. She said a company had been there the day before to service the elevators. In her words, "They topped off the fluids". So, I think it was burning hydraulic fluid. There are three elevators. I used two of the three and both had very strong fumes. I stopped using the elevators and used the stairs instead, but I could smell the fumes down the hallway. I reported the issue three times and then again when I checked out. I don't think the management considered it important because when I told the clerk about it as I was checking out he seemed to think it was normal to have the fumes after elevator service. It is not normal. It is a health hazard. I will not stay there again. I feel bad for the hotel cleaning staff who have to work there and use the elevators frequently. There were no other problems. The room was clean. The breakfast was good. It's very unfortunate the management isn't informed enough to recognize the health hazard that exists from those elevators.

Very nice hotel with an awesome indoor pool that included a tube slide. Great breakfast. Well managed. Only complaint … a few channels on TV cut out for 2 seconds on a regular basis.

Although, I did not request or require a room for pets, I was placed in a room that accommodated pets. I can only assume this room was for pets because of the slight smell of urine and pet hair on the couch. I exchange a couple of text messages with a manger that offered to shampoo the couch. Knowing my stay would be brief, I just flipped the cushions on the couch and expressed they should shampoo that couch before issuing that room.

Clean room, breakfast is always good, swimming pool was clean and the staff was nice.

Room was dirty, but we had Lysol wipes and cleaned it ourselves. Surfaces were sticky from previous guests; towels were questionable. We had brought beach towels for the pool and used those for bath towels. Kansas, one of the hotel employees, was outstanding and helped us with some if our usdues.

No bath towels, had to request from housekeeping. Dirt/mud on the desk. Little or no shower gel. Mould in shower. Desk chair was stained..food or grease

Room was not cleaned very well. Bedding was all wrinkled, walls stained, dustballs around fixtures and lighting did not work properly. Housekeeper did not get around to cleaning the room until after 5 pm.

Hotel appears clean and new but our room was gross. Toe nail clippings on the floor and old blood stained, ripped sheets on the bed. Would not stay here again.

Fecal matter on toilet seat

The toilet was not cleaned. Someone else’s urine was all over the bowl. A razor cover was left in shower. Something strange was tucked into the bed sheets. Surfaces were dusty.

Nice facility overall. The tile floor in the kitchenette and bathroom had been treated with wax or sealer, leaving it sticky. It required a towel on the floor to use the bathroom and shower. Not what I’d expect from a deluxe room. My biggest disappointment with Hampton Inns over the past couple of years is the beds. Before retirement, when traveling, I picked Hampton Inn for the bed and selection of pillows. They always had one that was a comfortable firmness. I haven’t had a good one in years. The mattresses have also gone down hill.

Room itself was very good but we were allocated a ground floor room (#171) near the hotel's rear entrance that overlooked a two storey brick wall. Requested a change of room. Initially told that we could move to an upper storey room later in the day but then were told that no rooms were available. The area by the rear entrance is used as a smoking area by staff and guests so we had people lighting up directly outside our bedroom at certain times of the day which was a bit of a nuisance. Although there was wi-fi, there was no office/business area in the hotel with desktop PCs and a printer - something that I've come to expect in USA hotels.

Bed was springy. Other than that. It was good.

Water pressure bin shower was abysmal

Great room and bed was comfortable, loved it! Breakfast was good. Everything was clean and new, loved the setup of the room. Pillows could be better, there a little too soft and they go flat.

The room was spacious, the couch and chairs were comfortable and so were the beds. The staff was friendly and helpful. This is a hotel I would highly recommend for the area and I would stay here again.

The staff was excellent

While not the fault of the hotel, we unfortunately were sharing the hotel with high school kids in town for state basketball tournaments. The kids had the run of the property and were even rolling balls down the hallways. Even though signs were posted requesting a "quieter" time starting at 10pm, the noise continued until well after 2pm. I mentioned the noise to a staff person and was told they would keep an eye on the cameras. The shower gel and the hand soap was empty. At 7am, the breakfast was minimal and barely warm. We are still waiting to see if the incidental charged to each room will be returned to us.

Very dissatisfied and disappointed with our Hampton inn stay in rapid city. First out room stuck like aftershave and we could not air the room Out as they do not allow you to Open the windows. Then We had to be moved to a new room. I left to I colorectal with my daughter and my wife stayed in the new room. A few minutes later someone with a key walked in on my wife. They had been issued the same room and given a key. Thankfully she was not changing when they walked in. I’m the morning there was a sign in the breakfast area which said they would honour special diets. My wife and daughter are gluten free and dairy free. So We asked what they had for gf options. We were told “none”! The sign says you can attend to Special diets! But they could not offer any assistance despite they sign. Fortunately we had a cooler and a box of chex so My daughter had cereal for breakfast. Overall very disappointed with our rapid city Hampton experience We stayed aug 17-18 2023. I will say though despite being VERY noisy. The pool was great and my daughter loved the slide. But I would not stay there again - Please don’t offer special diets then not deliver. And please don’t let others in our room!

During our 3-night stay, I had to request that toilet paper be brought to the room. Housekeeping did not keep up on supplying it. Also, on the evening of April 1, 2024, when we returned to our room, we found that the deadbolt lock tongue had been extended before the door was closed, precluding the door from locking. I assume housekeeping had done this earlier in the day. Fortunately, nothing was missing from the room.

We tried several times to get shampoo and conditioner re filed and then working. It was replaced on day 2 but didn,t work. Day 4 it was finally replaced and checked. In working order. I will never depend on a hotel to provide these supplies again. Breakfast was good facility well taken care of and the room was wonderful

The desk clerk was very helpful and remembered me when I walked past later. The facilities and room were very clean.

From checking in to checking out. Staff professional and place is clean and comfortable. Note: when checking out and was gone. Staff called me to inform me that I left an iPad in my room. Nice to know there is still honest people out there. Kudos !

This is our favorite place home away from home. We appreciate getting to stay on the ground floor as we request, so my young girls can swim all weekend. The staff is completely supportive, helpful and friendly. Sheralda was extremely Nice, welcoming and attentive. She made our check in fast and was willing to help make our stay the best so far, she was wonderful to visit.!!

The hotel was clean. But we will not be back. I called down tk the front desk, and texted per the message they gave at check in. They would not ask kids to quit running halls and being lound, banging on doors, etc hours after quite hours (10pm). Madison said they were dealing with loud kids on the main level too "sorry for the stress". She also told me after calling in at 12:30 am that she would be right up to talk to them. She never did and noise continued after 1:30am.

It is relatively new. In a safe and nice location.

I would rate the is a 10/10 if possible. Clean, GREAT breakfast, super comfortable beads and pillows (so much so we took a pic of the pillow tags to research if we could get them for our home) and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We got in late, like 11:00 and the desk manager was very friendly and it was clear the parking lot was packed so he very clearly and carefully recommended where to park and how to get into the building etc, all questions I was going to ask, but he was on top of it. 100% will stay here any time we find ourselves in Rapid City based on our experience this time!!

Hot breakfast was usually cold. The rolling door to close off the bathroom area is dangerous for fingers. I'm surprised they haven't been sued for it already. No housekeeping one day.

Rebecca at the front desk was Amazing! The breakfast choices were so good and every day there was new things to choose from. It was a great stay.

Hotel and rooms in excellent condition however the breakfast is terrible ! They use plastic utensils for the everyday free breakfast and instead of refilling the bottles For shower gel, shampoo conditioner and those amazing add ons they replace the whole plastic container. I just think hotels need to step it up when it comes to food and ecofriendly practices.
