When we arrived the roads were busy but got a parking space so was good as there is free parking just walking distance from The Whitehorse inn, the rooms were clean but needed a bit of TLC in my opinion other than that it was comfortable and a beautiful place to stay, the owner was awesome and the staff were great, with a friendly atmosphere.. 😊

Room was clean but no wardrobe and bathroom room was along corridor also church clock chiming all night did not help next time will have a room at rear of house away from road noise and the clock. Other wise all good for convenience and a good bar.

Comfortable room, basic but with all the necessary inclusions needed. Friendly staff and locals. Nice outside area. Excellent food and good value for money. Small car park but a free public park within 5 mins walk. Nice local amenities as well.

Ideally situated for an overnight stay if walking the South Downs Way. Excellent Sunday lunch - we could understand why it was popular! The Landlord was very helpful in providing the best route to re join the South Downs Way the following morning. Unfortunately the nearby cafes were not open for breakfast on Monday - The Green Welly doesn't open and The Nutmeg doesn't open on Bank holidays! We resorted to buying two baguettes from The White Lion and having them for breakfast and lunch!

The room was small, but comfortable and clean, the bathroom was perfectly adequate. The staff were inobtrusive and very accommodating and the location was peaceful. Parking wasn't a problem and I would love to stay here again.

Lovely place to eat and drink and staff were friendly and welcoming. The accommodation was cramped with very little room to move around the bed. The wall adjoining the room next door was very thin. I got treated to someone hacking their lungs up for long periods of time. Could also hear them moving around. Would definitely return for food/drinks but not to stay.

Extremely disappointed due to dirty condition of room, being allocated different room to one booked and that the private bathroom described on website is not private but shared between several rooms. Tried to discuss issues with staff but unhelpful responses and it was clear that they were not interested. All surfaces in bedroom were filthy, carpet very stained, windows cracked and dirty with cobwebs etc. Unfinished repairs to cornice and stained walls, cracked paintwork etc ( clearly been in that state for some time) This site does not seem to enable photos to be uploaded but one wipe of bedside table left cloth black and greasy. Bed linen was clean and mattress was comfortable.

The bed was comfy. The bathroom wasn't very clean and the cupboard had fly poo in it. There was a hole in the box around the toilet. There was a container behind the toilet catching a leek

The en suite room we had was minimalist -- a bed was about all. The bathroom had not been properly cleaned --poop in the toilet when we checked in. The village is lovely however.

Booked this accommodation for a 3 night stay, combining a work trip with a weekend in the area. The photos of the accommodation on the website are a little misleading, and the room I booked was advertised as a large room. It was actually very small with no desk / seating space and very limited space to hang clothing. On first glance it was quite clean, however there was a stain on the carpet and some damp / mould in the bathroom. The facilities were very basic in the room. The booking was confirmed as including breakfast. The pub stopped serving breakfast about 2 years ago. The pub itself was nice, we had a meal there one evening and the food was good. The bar staff were friendly. There was no servicing of the room during the stay. I did actually have to buy toilet roll. The bed was comfortable, and the noise complained about in other reviews was not a concern for us. The accommodation was functional. I don’t think I would book again, but do want to single out for praise the friendly bar staff.

It suited my needs well, everything i needed for a one night stay. It was a little cold in the evening and i couldnt control the heating, but it came on in the morning. No toiletries on offer, however for the price i paid it was bery good value

The staff in the pub were nice, that was the redeeming factor. Otherwise I would not recommend staying there. The pictures are misleading. Room 5 (large) on the booking page is tiny. The towels and bedding were cheap and bad quality. The wardrobe was a glorified small cupboard. There was one tiny bedside table. The description on hotels.com says that breakfast is available which is not true. They did not inform us that the kitchen closed at 6:30pm on Sundays so we had to go elsewhere for our dinner. Overall, it was disappointing and we will not stay there again but we made the best of it.

Only two very flimsy bath towels and no hand towels. Green emergency exit light on in the room all night made the room too bright for sleeping. Aldo only a blind at the window and no curtains which added to the brightness.

Used as a quick one night stay for going to a comedy gig in Brighton. Well worth the money. Staff lovely and room clean. Bathroom was not within our room but we had an assigned bathroom further round the corridor.

My stay was good although confusion on checking in as there was no record that I had paid a £20 deposite. However I sorted this with the member of staff. Upon entering my room it was still in a state of preperation and the bed was not made or any sheets and the bins were still open. No issue as the member of staff who showed me to my room did the honours and made the room up. This was very helpful.

I was well looked after by the staff, who went out of their way to be helpful and booked a very reliable taxi service on my behalf. Lovely village and a good set of church bells! Would stay again.

When we arrived the roads were busy but got a parking space so was good as there is free parking just walking distance from The Whitehorse inn, the rooms were clean but needed a bit of TLC in my opinion other than that it was comfortable and a beautiful place to stay, the owner was awesome and the staff were great, with a friendly atmosphere.. 😊

Room was clean but no wardrobe and bathroom room was along corridor also church clock chiming all night did not help next time will have a room at rear of house away from road noise and the clock. Other wise all good for convenience and a good bar.

Ideally situated for an overnight stay if walking the South Downs Way. Excellent Sunday lunch - we could understand why it was popular! The Landlord was very helpful in providing the best route to re join the South Downs Way the following morning. Unfortunately the nearby cafes were not open for breakfast on Monday - The Green Welly doesn't open and The Nutmeg doesn't open on Bank holidays! We resorted to buying two baguettes from The White Lion and having them for breakfast and lunch!

The room was small, but comfortable and clean, the bathroom was perfectly adequate. The staff were inobtrusive and very accommodating and the location was peaceful. Parking wasn't a problem and I would love to stay here again.

I was well looked after by the staff, who went out of their way to be helpful and booked a very reliable taxi service on my behalf. Lovely village and a good set of church bells! Would stay again.

I know the area well but I didn't appreciate that the bells from St Margaret's Church rung every quarter hour during the night. The front door was so badly stuck that it wouldn't open and the landlord had to come down and force it open for me. Also, although the accommodation facilities mentioned 'breakfast available', when I came down at 7.45am, there were no lights on and the entrance to the bar area was closed.

Comfortable room, basic but with all the necessary inclusions needed. Friendly staff and locals. Nice outside area. Excellent food and good value for money. Small car park but a free public park within 5 mins walk. Nice local amenities as well.

The pub itself was good and the food was very good too. Staff friendly. Accommodation not so good. Could do with a good clean up and overhaul to bring up to a reasonable standard.

The staff in the pub were nice, that was the redeeming factor. Otherwise I would not recommend staying there. The pictures are misleading. Room 5 (large) on the booking page is tiny. The towels and bedding were cheap and bad quality. The wardrobe was a glorified small cupboard. There was one tiny bedside table. The description on hotels.com says that breakfast is available which is not true. They did not inform us that the kitchen closed at 6:30pm on Sundays so we had to go elsewhere for our dinner. Overall, it was disappointing and we will not stay there again but we made the best of it.

Booked this accommodation for a 3 night stay, combining a work trip with a weekend in the area. The photos of the accommodation on the website are a little misleading, and the room I booked was advertised as a large room. It was actually very small with no desk / seating space and very limited space to hang clothing. On first glance it was quite clean, however there was a stain on the carpet and some damp / mould in the bathroom. The facilities were very basic in the room. The booking was confirmed as including breakfast. The pub stopped serving breakfast about 2 years ago. The pub itself was nice, we had a meal there one evening and the food was good. The bar staff were friendly. There was no servicing of the room during the stay. I did actually have to buy toilet roll. The bed was comfortable, and the noise complained about in other reviews was not a concern for us. The accommodation was functional. I don’t think I would book again, but do want to single out for praise the friendly bar staff.

Lovely place to eat and drink and staff were friendly and welcoming. The accommodation was cramped with very little room to move around the bed. The wall adjoining the room next door was very thin. I got treated to someone hacking their lungs up for long periods of time. Could also hear them moving around. Would definitely return for food/drinks but not to stay.

The staff were lovely,however sadly the cleanliness off the room was poor. There was what seemed like dust pan and brush mess under the covers on the bed. There were noisy people in the room opposite smoking and acting inappropriately until 4am. No staff members around in the morning to talk to.

Nice little pub not much parking Had a nice meal on the first night but no breakfast. Rooms are small and only one with an on-site. Not sure that I would stay aging need a bit more luxury .

Beautiful location and setting. Run by good local people, but staff communication and availability were non-existent. We had a rough time getting back indoors, found no soap in the bathroom, couldn't reach the staff on phone, once returned at 9:30pm and found the pub completely desolate with no way to reach anyone. Had to even help two incoming guests enter the building. Presumably encountering the same issues. It's still a beautiful inn, location and setting, and the staff were very polite, the few minutes we interacted with them. So in the end, all good, except these inconveniences
