I was on a walking trip and arrived at the Griffin late on a very hot summer afternoon. The welcome was great and the beer, lovely, though the tables in the beer garden had not been cleaned for some time. My room faced the street and had been absorbing the sun for the whole of the afternoon and was like a sauna, so I had to fully open the window. By the time I retired to bed it had cooled somewhat and in my exhaustion I did fall quickly to sleep, but with the window still fully open, the morning traffic noise woke me early. Maybe worth requesting a room facing the back of the hotel if these are not more expensive. The room was also quite small. Whilst perfect for me as a solo traveller, had my wife been accompanying me, one of us would have slept against the wall. The food in the evening was very good and well priced. My steak was cooked rare, as requested - not something that happens often. Midweek continental breakfast was simple, but very nice. Despite my comments about the room, overall, it was very good value for money and I would still recommend it.

Friendly service . Very clean and nicely presented place. Lots to do in the area and staff happy to help with ideas. Nice little touch was a research area with comfortable chairs and leaflets , about the local area, to go through. Beer garden is a great place to relax. Would definitely be happy to return

Good location for a stay on the Welsh borders - friendly staff - room clean and well-appointed with good ensuite with nice toiletries and super fluffy towels. Dining in pub restaurant was very good, breakfast buffet very good too with selection of cereals, yoghurts, juices and cold cuts with fresh toast and croissants to the table. Close to River Wye and a village shop is within walking distance, as well as a garage with convenience store. There is a pretty beer garden too. Only drawback is location on main road means passing lorry noise may concern some - windows not double-glazed.

This was a cozy inn with a fantastic pub and helpful staff! However, there is nothing for miles around except beautiful nature walks so if you want more, bussing or a car is a must!

It's nice to stay in a pub, you have dinner and a few beers and just have to walk upstairs to bed, no driving necessary. A lovely historic pub with a pretty and quite large beer garden which is perfect for summer evenings watching the sunset. It was a bit warm when we visited and a fan had been left in our room which was fantastic. The room was small but we had expected that so no problem for us. There are 2 car parks for guests of the hotel. The included breakfast was good. We tried the pizza for dinner which was really yummy. Staff and patrons friendly and helpful.

The hotel room was quite basic and not very well laid out, I thought. Bed was comfortable. Compared to others I stayed in during the same week this was a much lower standard but a very similar price. Staff were really nice.

My steak was cooked rare, as requested - not something that happens often. Midweek continental breakfast was simple, but very nice. Despite my comments about the room, overall, it was very good value for money and I would still recommend it.
I was on a walking trip and arrived at the Griffin late on a very hot summer afternoon. The welcome was great and the beer, lovely, though the tables in the beer garden had not been cleaned for some time. My room faced the street and had been absorbing the sun for the whole of the afternoon and was like a sauna, so I had to fully open the window. By the time I retired to bed it had cooled somewhat and in my exhaustion I did fall quickly to sleep, but with the window still fully open, the morning traffic noise woke me early. Maybe worth requesting a room facing the back of the hotel if these are not more expensive. The room was also quite small. Whilst perfect for me as a solo traveller, had my wife been accompanying me, one of us would have slept against the wall. The food in the evening was very good and well priced. Friendly service . Very clean and nicely presented place. Lots to do in the area and staff happy to help with ideas. Nice little touch was a research area with comfortable chairs and leaflets , about the local area, to go through. Beer garden is a great place to relax. Would definitely be happy to return

Good location for a stay on the Welsh borders - friendly staff - room clean and well-appointed with good ensuite with nice toiletries and super fluffy towels. Dining in pub restaurant was very good, breakfast buffet very good too with selection of cereals, yoghurts, juices and cold cuts with fresh toast and croissants to the table. Close to River Wye and a village shop is within walking distance, as well as a garage with convenience store. There is a pretty beer garden too. Only drawback is location on main road means passing lorry noise may concern some - windows not double-glazed.

It's nice to stay in a pub, you have dinner and a few beers and just have to walk upstairs to bed, no driving necessary. A lovely historic pub with a pretty and quite large beer garden which is perfect for summer evenings watching the sunset. It was a bit warm when we visited and a fan had been left in our room which was fantastic. The room was small but we had expected that so no problem for us. There are 2 car parks for guests of the hotel. The included breakfast was good. We tried the pizza for dinner which was really yummy. Staff and patrons friendly and helpful.
