Everything was good especially the breakfast except for continuous problems with the lift during my one night stay

The stay was as expected, nothing to write home about. Iron missing from the room, the ironing board snagged on clothes whilst ironing. Pillow cases looked tired and on one a stain which was put aside when I slept. The cherry on the cake was the gym/spa facilities being closed without any notice til you arrive. This was the main reason the hotel was picked over alternatives and no appeasement was offered. The next time I am in the area for work I will not be returning to this hotel.

The Leonardo hotel in Middlesborough is a very decent hotel. Easily accessible, satnav took me straight there, car park outside reception. reception area is spacious, clean and tidy. Personnel on the desk were cordial, not particularly welcoming but took care of business. There is a health club on site that guests are allowed to use FoC during the stay. This includes a gym and pool. The public areas are clean and well maintained. Some signs of wear only to be expected. Nothing negative at all. I was on the fourth floor. Room was spacious, clean, tidy, well appointed. A single window to the outside world didn’t exactly provide a stimulating view but then again what do you expect looking out of a Middlesbrough Hotel window. The hanging gardens of Babylon? Krakatoa erupting? (You know the script….: ). Decent amount of power sockets, USB connectors, kettle, tea, coffee etc. large bed, very comfortable. Shower room and WC no problem at all. Modern, clean and tidy. The negative was the hotel bar & restaraunt. As a lone business traveller, I didn’t want to head into town but the bar was soulless. Barman appeared bored & disinterested. 2 draft lager pumps on display, one of them was off leaving only one choice. Price for a pint was >£5. £5 for a pint where less than 100m away there is a bustling nightlife where a greater choice of drinks are less than half that price. If you can tolerate the Karaoke that is…. Very decent hotel. Avoid the bar.

2 out of 5 — Mixed Experience at the Leonardo Hotel Middlesbrough We stayed at the Leonardo Hotel in Middlesbrough recently, and while there were a few positives, overall the experience left quite a bit to be desired. Check-in: The check-in process started off well — the lady at reception was friendly and polite. However, she didn’t really explain much about the facilities or hotel procedures. I asked about car parking and was told I could pay on checkout, but when it came time to leave, the lady on the desk seemed confused as to why I hadn’t paid up front. That lack of consistency left a bit of a poor impression. Spa and Pool Area: The swimming pool itself seemed to have a lot of chlorine — so much that our eyes were burning while in the water. The young lady on reception for the spa area didn’t seem very interested in helping guests at all. She spent most of the time playing on her phone with her feet up on the desk, which came across as quite unprofessional. It was also confusing that towels for the pool were kept behind the main hotel reception rather than in the spa area itself — there didn’t seem to be any reason for this setup. When we asked where to return our used towels afterwards, we were vaguely told “over there on the right,” with no clear direction. When we had to ask again, her tone turned noticeably sharp and dismissive. Room: The room itself was okay in size but very dated. It looked like it hadn’t had a proper refresh in quite some time — bits of mould

Lifts were not working on Friday evening.

Parking was a bit tight, wouldn’t want to leave my car in the overflow car park overnight. Breakfast was superb. Pool was a nice temperature, but a tad narrow. Room was clean and good standard. Friendly staff.

Stayed here in business. Middlesbrough does not have a selection of premium hotels unfortunately, the Leovardo backs this up. Staff are friendly with their service, however, food quality leaves a lot to be desired. The rooms are in need of an update, they are very tired with lots of wear and tear. The gym equipment also needs maintenance, the machines are in poor condition too unfortunately.

Easy to find location with hotel parking and NCP parking close by. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel had put on a late night bar with karaoke for after the Take That concert and it was great fun. Breakfast was excellent.

Stayed for a weekend when in the area visiting friends. Generally a nice place, comfortable room and very clean. The bathroom had perhaps seen better days but the hotel overall was fine and parts have been well cared for or updated. Great that it has a gym and pool. Shame the sauna was out of order. Extremely convenient location for the centre and excellent value for money.

The staff are really lovely and the location was perfect for me. The bathroom especially was very outdated/dirty - badly in need of a refresh. The grouting was mouldy, shower curtain very yellow, wood panelling showing water ingress and paint bubbling.

Room was only a double but was for 2 adults and a child! Requested fridge and wasn’t in the room, health suite horrendous, mould around bathroom

Nice sized room, toiletries good, tea and coffee making facilities and milk, full length mirror. Room carpet hasn’t been cleaned prior to us checking in and was filthy with someone else’s debris! Disappointed it hadn’t been checked prior to is checking in! However staff friendly and courteous, parking not great as only very limited number of spaces. Food breakfast selection.

Bath mat (towel) was found wet and used behind the bathroom door. "Spiders legs" on bath surround. Waste paper found under desk. Cleaner needs a kind reminder of their .roles

Our room 519 was very dusty ask for a hoover so we could vacuum the quilt cover, reception said the housekeeper would come and sort it out which they never came so had another night with the dust , breakfast was good and Steven the waiter was excellent very helpful.

I didn’t like to stay in this hotel because it was not clean at all. The floor was very very sticky. The carpet I mean the bathroom was not clean at all and the furniture is in the room wherever I was touching. It was fully dusted.

Nice staff, good location, good room size. Only two things are not good: the bed is very uncomfortable and the hotel needs a lot of repairs, which is being overlooked at the moment. Otherwise, it is a good hotel.

The hotel room was very clean and had good facilities with tea and coffees, ironing board, safe and tv. Only problem was lack of aircon. The room was hot and humid. We were goven a fan, which helped us to sleep, but surprised such an expansive exec room devoid of aircon.

Had to charge room as window wouldn't shut tight so you could hear the noise from the carriage way and that was on the other side of the hotel, swapped rooms the next day and that was ok. Problem resolved quickly and staff very friendly.

We stayed here for 2 nights and booked a Superior Double Room. First impressions were good, and it is an easy 5 minute walk from the train station. Nice roomy reception and a lovely friendly receptionist called Lisa who told us everything we needed to know. She was really helpful. Our room was on the 8th floor which we were pleased with as we knew there would be no heavy footed guests above us. The room was ok, nothing special. On looking back at the website, although there is a range of rooms with varying prices, they all seem to be the same. So I’m not sure what a ‘superior’ room has that the others haven’t? Anyway, first night hardly slept at all as the people in the room next door seemed to be slamming their room door every 5 minutes as they went out for cigarettes! This went on until way after midnight. I went down to reception and reported it, and to be fair a security guard went and had a word with them and things quietened down. Worryingly, when I spoke to the female receptionist about it the next day (Saturday), she said it was a city centre hotel and was busy so we had to expect noise at night! Not a good advert for the hotel. We then had breakfast, which was great, really nice, and for the 2 of us was only £14! The next night we slept ok, but I did notice that although the room doors had ‘closer’ mechanisms on them, unless a guest manually held the door to prevent it closing too quickly, they all slam. Management need to look into this.

Good breakfast, but poor soundproofing! Try to get a room on the opposite side to the busy dual carriageway next the hotel, else be kept awake by sirens and traffic noise! Can also hear snoring from the next room!

Staff good, food good, room nice and comfortable however noisiest room ever - was on 8th floor and it was so noisy it was as if there was no glass in the window! Reported to reception but she argued with me I was mistaken? Eh I didn’t sleep because of the noise? Never Again!

Good hotel in excellent location. Room was very hot but no way of controlling temperature other than opening window which led to noise. Breakfast was excellent. Disappointed that pool didn’t open until 8:00 a.m.

We had an executive room, which was a fantastic size. There was a lounge area, a good size desk, bathroom had a bath with a powerful shower and the bed was extremely comfortable. There was a minibar in the room, an ironing board and iron and reasonable wardrobe space if you were staying for any period of time. We parked the car in the car park which had enough spaces, even on a weekend although the spaces were tiny and hard to get in and out the car. The restaurant was quiet (no music or ambiance) but the food was delicious. The hotel had a gym which looked substantial - unfortunately on this occasion we didn't have time to utilize this service. Highly recommended and would stay again.

We booked for three nights, they gave our room away because we came on the second day, the said there weren't any room available.

A special shout out to the reception team. Mandy, Helga and Sam. We mentioned that we had come for our valentines day treat. When we enter our room, they had kindly laid out rose petals and a box of sweets on our bed. They are very friendly, nothing is too much trouble. They made our stay extra special, and they are a credit to your organisation.

Arrived at 8:00pm, rooms not ready, checked in by duty manager who was family rude, only one lift working so waits if up to 15 minutes per fill, asked for more pillows, twice but never arrived, hall way very noisy with slamming doors and shouting and finally asked for poached eggs at breakfast to be told they’d be 30 minutes so didn’t bother, just not a good experience, chose Leonardo because of previous experiences, they were not like this though!! Don’t stay here!!!!

Booked two rooms for two nights which they messed up. We paid for 6 guests but only received 4 beds for the first night. The excuse presented was that they had a lot of guests show up. Reception staff was not very helpful and tried to tell us to wait in the lobby the next morning while the rooms with proper number of beds were being readied. Overall old property with rude staff who did not apologize for their mistake or even attempt to try to make it right for the paying customer. One of the rooms had separate faucets for hot and cold water. Just a reminder for the management, we are in 2025, change the faucets. Would not recommend.

The hotel is quite expensive, but is rather outdated, and not the best value for money. Location is wonderful though, just next to the train station.

Not to many hotels to choose from in Middlesbrough so I always tend to stay here. Its in a handy location for pubs and restaurants and main routes in and out of the city.

The ladies in breakfast service were fabulous and friendly, and provided vegan sausages on request, which always makes for a better experience. Not sure I appreciated the alarm in the room being sounded twice at 10.50am as if to say ‘checkout is at 11am’, which we were aware of. Not the greatest location, with those afflicted by drug addiction hanging outside the reception lobby, and the obvious signs of neglect for this once thriving town. I remember the Dragonara Hotel days, when this place was the height of luxury.

good hotel, centrally located. parking £5 overnight - we got there early but I sense that the carpark could fill up quickly, although there seem other carparks nearby they were doing a special deal of 2 breakfasts for £14 when we stayed in April 2023 - breakfast good and value at that price. plenty of cafes and pubs nearby

Hotel is nice, rooms are clean, beds comfortable. Area is not great. No restaurant availability on arrival evening as there was a private party, not a lot of options nearby. Room was not serviced and we had to go to reception to get supplies. Staff were mostly friendly.

Dirty, run down area. Was told nothing available until 3 including restaurant and bar and room wasn’t ready. Went for a walk and never felt so u safe anywhere in the world. Planet of the Apes

Had a good stay here, the bed was very comfortable so had a good sleep. There was a mix up with my booking upon arrival but the friendly staff member on the desk was very helpful and sorted it out quickly. The breakfast was delicious but was not included in the price of the room and was quite expensive.

We arrived late for booking because was unable to get to grounds from information provided on website was driving around for hours The room service breakfast all came cold when changed still came back cold with stuff missing We used the restaurant they missed out some off the order food went cold by the time they came with the rest off it

Was not the same as perceived on the photos and description. Service was very poor, rude staff except breakfast when the staff member was very nice. Room wasn’t clean and the food was poor

Good facilities and excellent breakfast

The pool was lovely and warm, it was a treat not too flinch as you get in, it was like getting a warm hug 😀 The breakfast is great and I love the gluten free options on offer.

Upon arrival it was clear that the receptionist had had a bad day - met with a grunt and a scorn! All other staff were very good though, helpful and friendly. Evening meal was terrible, no steak available so had some sort of shrimp dish - a bowl of orange flavoured chilli sauce with half a dozen prawns from a frozen bag thrown in. Courgette fries were forgotten too. Breakfast was very good though, very well presented and a good choice - stay clear of the croissants though, you could break windows with them! At the end of the day room was clean and comfy and all at a very good price (except the evening meal).

The room was average size. The curtains had gaps at each side of tthe window. There was no biscuits on the tea tray. There was a crack in the sink. The bar area was pleasant but the food was overpriced and little choice. The breakfast was very average. Poor quality bacon and sausage. No choice of bread only sliced. It was more like a 3 star than 4 star hotel.
