Stamford Gate Hotel

Warm friendly welcome, gorgeous bar with log burning fires creating an inviting experience on a wet autumn day. Evening meal was excellent as was our breakfast. Rooms bit dated and we unfortunately had a noisy front room onto a busy main road which did keep us awake a bit during the night.

The staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient. I would have liked to view the sports on television but realise this is not for everyone but there were areas this could be accommodated if it was provided.

Good location, near some beach hotspots, Free Parking and wifi was great. Beds clean and great breakfast. All was good for out stay except the toilets. There seem to be a blockage so nothing would flush down. We were given another toilet to use in another room which did eventually flush but it too did struggle. It looks like theres some central blockage.

Nice, clean, warm and quiet hotel with good and well presented food, staff very friendly. The room was ok the bathroom was a bit tired with a gungy shower head, apart from that we had a good stay with plenty of parking spaces.

We were greeted by a lovely staff member who couldn't do enough for us. The only bad point is that the rooms are dated and the bathroom is of low quality. The hotel section needs a refurb. Strange as the bar area is of a high standard.

Great location near the A55. Staff were all friendly & efficient. Restaurant very busy. Tasty full breakfast cooked to your individual requirement. Limitless tea/ coffee/ toast. NB Pay extra for "speciality" coffees.

My wife, son & I decided to have a spontaneous night away (21-6-25) and after reading a few reviews and using google for location we decided to book with the Stamford Gate Hotel. On arrival the staff were extremely helpful and answered our questions. The room was good and I was even surprised to see trouser pressers in the room. Something I have not seen in many of years which and made me smile and have a good childhood memory of my late parents. The building looks very pretty inside and out with a modern feel. Local ales, IPAs at the bar if you wish to have local Welsh drinks. The beds were extremely comfortable, I personally was happy to not see big fluffy pillows that feel hard in most places we stay. The rooms are spacious and great amenities like iron, kettle, teas etc. They do have regular live events throughout the year which is great when you’re staying and huge function rooms that can hold very large groups of people. The breakfast was phenomenal, fresh flavourful ingredients and I highly recommend their cooked breakfast if you stay. What stood out to me and my wife was the genuine extra mile that the staff and owners Matt & Emma did for us. They took their time to have a chat with us, our son is high on the autistic spectrum and we could thank them enough for accommodating the additional needs. They both recommended a few areas we could visit and overall made our stay with them very relaxing.

Stamford Gate hotel was exactly what we needed. Staff were super friendly and accommodating when needing anything. Super easy to get too and secure parking all night.

There is a big difference between the hotel and the pub area. The hotel needs an uplift from the 1950s feel. The view from the far end of the bar over the River Dee is stunning. The reception area is unmanned, dark, eerie in it's atmosphere. One reception ist was eating a meal in reception They serve an excellent NZ SB in the bar and the food was v good. Ample osrking A way out of the town ip the hill.

Well positioned, on the road, opposite a fuel station and 6mins aqay from Pantasaph Retreat centre.. old rooms but nicely maintained. Shower heads needed cleaning I did but not a unique fault of this hotel. Overall good stay.

Helpful staff in a tired, run down hotel. The place has a very odd smell throughout and door locks on my room and at least one other didn't work, with no other security mechanisms. The bed in my room was uncomfortable with what felt like a poor quality mattress and the shower curtain in the bathroom smelled very off. The hotel is clean and tidy with a pub/restaurant attached. I won't be returning.

Lovely bar area but not nice bedrooms. Dirty, bathrooms, mouldy. Arrived to check in, all I received as a welcome was, did you book through Expedia. Room freezing cold, felt like it hasn't been used for ages, rang reception to ask for radiator to be put on. No answer, rang bar, they said they don't normally have heating this time of the year, but would turn it on. But it didn't come on so had a very cold night. Breakfast was basic, nothing special, juice, cereal, toast and fried breakfast. No pastries, fruit etc.

Great stay, clean,and lovely people.

We stayed at this property for 3 nights and had a pleasant stay. This does not have the most up to date decore and there are some small bits which could do with some work i.e hooks on the back of the bathroom door was falling off and bathroom mirror was missing, however the room was spotless, had plenty of bedding, pillows and amenities like coffee and tea. The staff were amazing and really made out stay. They offered advice re: things to go and see during our stay and they were able to accommodate for our changing breakfast orders. Breakfast was nicely cooked and of good quality and they offered a great selection of cereals and juices. I, personally, would have liked the option of pastries as well however I still enjoyed what was on offer.

For start #No body was in reception for check in waited about 10 min to find someone to come. #The room we stayed was very noisy from the traffic at the front. # Asked for the alternative room as it was too noisy but the woman in reception wasn't interested # Breakfast was okay but took too long to get order and cook approximately 30 min wait . Seems like the 2 breakfast staffs are doing every job needed to be done in the morning so they are rushing for everything.

nice comfy hotel, good breakfast heating did not work. room temperature was bearable, could have been warmer unfortunately wifi did not work and we needed it to plan next day travel. 4G on mobile worked, but very slow ..

Staff were very helpful and friendly. It was sunday and the kitchen shut ar 6 and the bar closed nearly which wasn't very good with beinb a solo traveller and no transport. Otherwise I couldn't fault it.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was very good, with an excellent cooked breakfast.

We checked in at about 8:15pm (we rang to check this was ok as it was quite late), and were met by a lovely am. Who carried our cases to our room. This was such a friendly way to be met when we had been busy all day. He gave us all the information we needed to be settled and we let him know what time we would be down for breakfast. The beds were really comfortable and the room equipped with and good size TV, towels and tea, coffee and biscuits. There were other extras that were helpful too, such as a hairdryer and an extension lead for extra electricals. We went down to breakfast in the morning to be treated with really friendly staff again and a plentiful breakfast - a full English (with produce sourced from the local butcher) cooked to order and there was also a good range of cereals, jams and toast. We loved our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to come back!

Everything good , food lovely, staff friendly , only stayed overnight went to funeral , the wake was there, but in better circumstances stay , and use as base to see lovely country side, We liked the Stamford gate, Linda from Cambridge.

The only good thing about our stay was the breakfast. Would not stay here again.

Room was decent and had everything we needed. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and would definitely recommend giving it a try. We both really enjoyed the food and we were treated to a tremendous full English breakfast in the morning.

This is a small family run hotel with a large restaurant. Room was large, clean and recently decorated. Bathroom was a bit dated. The cooked breakfast was excellent as was the americano coffee. The full range of items was too much to tackle and I was very full after half of what was on offer. Holywell is not well endowed with lots of restaurants so unles you want a drive of several miles you need to eat at the hotel. Evening menu is extensive, food quality, cooking and service are all good. Prices are reasonable for the area.
