This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed. Loved the coziness, ambience and the private beach/boardwalk. We stayed at a swimup suit which was awesome with a beach view. The breakfast was included and was okay. The dinner seemed too pricy for the quality. However, the downtown is only 12 min drive and there is a lot of restaurants. There is a cenote nearby at 2 min walking distance. The room included loaded refrigerator with drinks (free). We just loved the ambience. We would definitely come back.

Very nice small hotel. Great service; everyone was super nice and accommodating. Everything in the room and the property was very clean. We love the restaurant serving Mexican cuisine. We were swimming in the ocean several times a day, also in the cenote, that is just steps away. Kayaks and paddles need upgrade, that is the only suggestion for approvement.

This was a wonderful environment to relax. The only issue was that it seems that hot water in the shower was not always available. The food service was excellent but slow. Also we found that we could dine at other restaurants on the row for some variation. Cost of alcohol was higher than other restaurants...very clean, staff super...even made sandwiches for breakfast when we had to leave at 6:30 am

Hotel Alea Tulum is open air with a designer pool area and outdoor seating for meals next to the beach. The beach is more rocky than sandy with sargasso grass drifts on the seashore. Across the dirt road is a wonderful denote. The staff is excellent! The food options are flavorful. There’s isn’t any nightlife within walking distance. Bars are in resort villas/residences/hotels. It’s quiet.

Very comfortable hotel with nice small restaurant on site. Two other hotels in the same ownership group are nearby so that you can walk to them and share the facilities. The pool here is small and the beach access small but you can walk down to a sister hotel And enjoy a change of pace there. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Very relaxed, low-key atmosphere far from the craziness of Cancun. Wonderful balcony and birds and stars at night.

Truly a lovely experience from the accommodations to the hospitality and location. I loved the privacy of the swim up suite! The hotel is on the beach, which is very walkable and natural. You’re surrounded by nature! I have every intention of returning to Hotel Alea Tulum

Avoid This place like the plague ! We booked last minute on Expedia so we had to pre-pay. What a mistake! I can’t believe people rate this crappy place this highly. For starters, you drive 1 mile down a dirt road that is badly damaged. I thought it was going to damage the rental car. We asked for our money back immediately after arriving and touring the property, but they would not give us our money back. The view was decent and the room was decent, but everything else was terrible. The safe was broken. The hot tub was broken. The pool was freezing and dirty. We booked a swim up room on purpose because we love to get in and out of the water but that didn’t happen. The beach was also gross with algae and seaweed. There was also a rock shelf that went out for about 100 yards that made it dangerous to walk out. Other properties in the area had built a dock where you could swim out past the rocks.. This property did not. Most of the outside dining chairs were also broken. There aren’t any sidewalks or street lights either. The electricity went out on the fourth day, alll day, of our six day stay and so we left on the fifth and they even refused to give us one day credit. The only redeeming factor was the food was very good and so was the service— only of the weight staff. The front desk personnel and management were terrible. Also a margarita was $17 as they have you captive.

We just spent a week at this amazing boutique hotel and absolutely loved it! The best service in the world (especially Steven and Miguel). If quiet surroundings, solitude from not being around many people, nourishing food and the most gorgeous ocean blue are your vibes this is your place. We enjoyed the gym. Breakfast was made to order from their menu (the avocado/greek yogurt bowl with fresh roasted pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and fresh fruit was our favorite). The food was so delicious we ended up eating every meal there, and highly recommend the fish tacos, chicken mole, and mezcal sampler. The staff was super helpful in arranging our excursions, which included a pickup on the beach to go snorkeling, see the ruins and swim with the sea turtles and manna rays. The beach has a lot of rocks, so definitely bring water shoes (but they have some to borrow if you need it). We also enjoyed sea kayaking, in the shallow reef area, the beautiful sea breeze, ocean view room and mellow atmosphere. If I go again, I would pick up a few bottles of water at the airport and bring to the hotel.

Where do I begin? We got our Expedia VIP Gold member upgrades- wine AND room! The service is first class. Everyone was sooooo nice and helpful!!!! If you can, get the penthouse with the ‘hot tub’. The view is BREATHTAKING! During this season seaweed is plentiful. We were not able to snorkel but that should not be a factor. We took a quick drive down to Akumal beach and another day we walked right next door to the cenote (we kayaked thru the mangroves). I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this property to anyone! I went with a girl friend not my significant other. It was definitely romantic and I cannot wait to share this place with a SO. My gf got on the paddle board. Water shoes, life vests, snorkel gear and flippers are provided for FREE! So you really do not have to pack snorkel or water shoes (like I did). The food is excellent, fresh and gourmet! The property was easy to find and we felt very safe. Just book it!!!

Avoid this place at all cost! While the staff were really nice, this place is unkept, dirty and stink. I regret my stay there. I couldn’t enjoy the pool because of the dirtiness even the beatch is unkept. And it is expensive, the pictures do not reflect the reality at all. This is the first bad review I ever had to write !

We arrived a few hours early and had no problem with early check in. The front desk staff were extremely welcoming. They gave us a tour of the hotel prior to bringing us to our room. The hotel was very clean and had a beautiful view of the private beach. All the staff we dealt with were extremely kind and helpful. The location is about 15 mins from Tulum and is a great place to unwind. The views are amazing and the private dock was a great place to see the sunrise and sunset. This hotel is a must if you are looking to stay in the area. We will definitely be returning.

Loved our stay at Alea so much! Extremely clean, friendly staff and very helpful. Diana helped us plan an excursion to Chichen Itza and helped us schedule a rental for a day. She was amazing! The view from our room was perfect, ocean front!

This was the worst hotel I have stayed at and it’s not cheap at $500/night/room. The pool towels had stains on them, our sheets smelled badly, the toilet was not flushing for the first 2 days of our stay and the description of amenities is false. They don’t have a gym or any food service. The beach is very rocky and small - for similar price you can stay at much better places

The property was clean and well stocked, very comfortable. Francis at the front was a dream and so sweet. It was quiet and I was able to enjoy myself. it was large enough that there were always people around, but small enough that it was never crowded anywhere I wanted to be. Great value. I will be coming back!

We loved our time here!! The property is beautiful, right on the beach. The room was perfect, bed was very comfortable, and we greatly appreciated the restocking of the mini-fridge. We also loved the complimentary breakfast! FYI this is not near the main Tulum centro, so you have to take a taxi or bus to get there. But we loved being in our own quiet area on the beach

This was a very nice, clean and picturesque place. It is located 15 mins between Akumal and Tulum downtown. The staff were great, friendly and very helpful and kind. Had 5 nice days at Alea! Startet out with an upgrade to the penthouse - so nice! Great location, nice beach - a little far from the town. Nice and helpfull staff, with good language skills. All and all a great stay!

The room was such a dream. Very beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Staff was amazing, very attentive. If you want to get away for a relaxing mini getaway this is it. It isn’t too far from tulum beach. We rented a bugbee and got there safely back and forth. The only thing I didn’t like was the bumpy road to get to Alea.

I recently stayed at Alea Tulum, and overall, it was a delightful experience. Positives: The hotel itself is stunning, with elegant décor and a welcoming atmosphere. My room was impeccably clean and well-maintained throughout my stay. I particularly appreciated the daily replenishment of the minibar, which added a nice touch of convenience and luxury. The standout feature of hotel is undoubtedly the staff. They were the most amazing team I've ever encountered at a hotel. From the warm welcome at check-in to the attentive service throughout my stay, they went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction. Negatives: Unfortunately, there were a couple of issues that impacted my experience. On the first night, there was no electricity in the area, they have a generated so we could use the basic things, but not the A/C in the room. While the staff were prompt and professional in addressing the situation, it was an inconvenience after a long day of travel. It took much longer than expected to receive my meal, which was a bit frustrating, especially on mornings when I had a tight schedule. My boyfriend and I LOVED our stay at Alea Tulum! It has the romantic/secluded/personal/boutique hotel feel rather than large/impersonal. It is BEAUTIFUL yet relaxed. Very Bohemian feel to it. The fully & easily accessible kayaks, paddle boards, snorkel gear, and lounge chairs are a wonderful perk! The food & drinks are outstanding, and having the bar right there by the beach is fantastic. They deliver food/drinks to your beach chair if you ask, too! The included breakfast is a HUGE perk, as it is WONDERFUL!!! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our ocean-front room was clean and gorgeous, and we listened to the ocean waves all night every night. We loved the location, and always had a parking spot for our rental car. This was, by far, our favorite "tropical" vacation ever! Go experience Tulum - the underground cenotes and Myan Ruins, expecially! - and absolutely stay at Alea Tulum!

Very, very, disappointing, to say the least!...i payed $950. usd. For 2 basic rooms, for 3 nights. Rooms were very dated, and smelled bad. Asked if we can get upgraded since the place looked empy and was told they didn't have the availability. Lol. Wish i could've gotten a refund but they wouldn't. I was gonna post some pictures, but realized i didn't even bother taking any pics!! Pools were not even worth getting in. I say avoid!

Avoid This place like the plague ! We booked last minute on Expedia so we had to pre-pay. What a mistake! I can’t believe people rate this crappy place this highly. For starters, you drive 1 mile down a dirt road that is badly damaged. I thought it was going to damage the rental car. We asked for our money back immediately after arriving and touring the property, but they would not give us our money back. The view was decent and the room was decent, but everything else was terrible. The safe was broken. The hot tub was broken. The pool was freezing and dirty. We booked a swim up room on purpose because we love to get in and out of the water but that didn’t happen. The beach was also gross with algae and seaweed. There was also a rock shelf that went out for about 100 yards that made it dangerous to walk out. Other properties in the area had built a dock where you could swim out past the rocks.. This property did not. Most of the outside dining chairs were also broken. There aren’t any sidewalks or street lights either. The electricity went out on the fourth day, alll day, of our six day stay and so we left on the fifth and they even refused to give us one day credit. The only redeeming factor was the food was very good and so was the service— only of the weight staff. The front desk personnel and management were terrible. Also a margarita was $17 as they have you captive.

We arrived a few hours early and had no problem with early check in. The front desk staff were extremely welcoming. They gave us a tour of the hotel prior to bringing us to our room. The hotel was very clean and had a beautiful view of the private beach. All the staff we dealt with were extremely kind and helpful. The location is about 15 mins from Tulum and is a great place to unwind. The views are amazing and the private dock was a great place to see the sunrise and sunset. This hotel is a must if you are looking to stay in the area. We will definitely be returning.

Hotel Alea was absolutely wonderful for our trip to Tulum. Having been before, I prefer to be in a more quiet, secluded area away from town, and Alea is perfect for that. The property is great, from small dining area to beach, dock, lounge chairs and recreational equipment. The service was excellent all around, from friendly bartenders & servers, to the exceptional front desk staff, who helped organize additional activites and give recommendations. Would absolutely stay again,and have already recommended to friends.

This hotel is currently closed and I received no notification of this, hotel accepted my reservation and is still accepting reservations for tonight. I turned up to a locked door, found my way down a side alley onto the beach and into the hotel and it was like a ghost town, really scary as a solo female traveller. There was no sign on the door to say it was closed either. Tried calling hotel phone number and no answer either. I thought on my feet and made my way down the severely potholed road to the sister hotel Nerea where they told me I had been rebooked. I was really shaken up by the whole experience and very lucky I had my own vehicle or I would have been stranded. I tried on multiple occasions to speak to hotel management and was continually fobbed off and told they were out of town. I travel all over the world on a regular basis and have never experienced anything like this. I can’t believe both Expedia and Alea itself are still accepting reservations for this place. DO NOT BOOK, it’s a scam.

Very comfortable hotel with nice small restaurant on site. Two other hotels in the same ownership group are nearby so that you can walk to them and share the facilities. The pool here is small and the beach access small but you can walk down to a sister hotel And enjoy a change of pace there. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Very relaxed, low-key atmosphere far from the craziness of Cancun. Wonderful balcony and birds and stars at night.

Where do I begin? We got our Expedia VIP Gold member upgrades- wine AND room! The service is first class. Everyone was sooooo nice and helpful!!!! If you can, get the penthouse with the ‘hot tub’. The view is BREATHTAKING! During this season seaweed is plentiful. We were not able to snorkel but that should not be a factor. We took a quick drive down to Akumal beach and another day we walked right next door to the cenote (we kayaked thru the mangroves). I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this property to anyone! I went with a girl friend not my significant other. It was definitely romantic and I cannot wait to share this place with a SO. My gf got on the paddle board. Water shoes, life vests, snorkel gear and flippers are provided for FREE! So you really do not have to pack snorkel or water shoes (like I did). The food is excellent, fresh and gourmet! The property was easy to find and we felt very safe. Just book it!!!

The road is actually quite dangerous and some taxes refused to provide full service. Even going to town and back is a major dilemma with that road If you have children or people in your party, who are injured or can’t stand a major beating on a road, please go somewhere else

The Alea was a great stay for my wife and I on our anniversary trip to Tulum. It was in a very quiet and safe area and the service was fantastic. The beach is small and rocky but the pier is awesome and peaceful and it is easy to get in the water directly from the pier. I would recommend renting a car because it is 10-15 minutes away from Tulum Center and the Hotel Zone. Overall, we loved pour experience at the Alea.

This property is one of our favorites in the area. It allows you to have close proximity to the beach and snorkeling. Although this beach is beautiful in different ways, it does not have clear white sand with no rocks, and that is understandable since the reef is located in front of it. Perfect for snorkeling! The amount of sea weed aka sargasso, is not under the control of any property owners in the peninsula, but with that said, and the fact that a hurricane had just passed through, it was in great shape. My husband and I really love the calm, relaxed vibe that this area provides. The food is always great and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. My only dissatisfaction is that the fridges in the rooms do not keep the beverages cold. But some ice and a foam cooler took care of that problem and I hardly find that reason to complain much since they provided the ice. Overall if you are looking for a vacation place to get disconnected from the rat race of the city life, this is it!!! But if you want to be close to bus routes and public transportation, or a mall and the night club seen, unfortunately your taxi is about a 10 minute walk down a dirt road. If you rent a car there is parking though. So this place is perfect if you want peace and quiet on the beach away from the city.

We loved our time here!! The property is beautiful, right on the beach. The room was perfect, bed was very comfortable, and we greatly appreciated the restocking of the mini-fridge. We also loved the complimentary breakfast! FYI this is not near the main Tulum centro, so you have to take a taxi or bus to get there. But we loved being in our own quiet area on the beach

Hotel is fine. Good food and clean, well organized rooms. the problem is the location unless you want to scuba dive. The road to the hotel is rutted, potholed and difficult to navigate. It is muddy to walk, and a long way from anything other than the sister hotels. The beach. is rocky and similarly hard to navigate.

This was a very nice, clean and picturesque place. It is located 15 mins between Akumal and Tulum downtown. The staff were great, friendly and very helpful and kind. The food was really good and service was wonderful. Special thanks to Alexis for being such a helpful n kind host and Manuel for the amazing cocktails.

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed. Loved the coziness, ambience and the private beach/boardwalk. We stayed at a swimup suit which was awesome with a beach view. The breakfast was included and was okay. The dinner seemed too pricy for the quality. However, the downtown is only 12 min drive and there is a lot of restaurants. There is a cenote nearby at 2 min walking distance. The room included loaded refrigerator with drinks (free). We just loved the ambience. We would definitely come back.

I recently stayed at Alea Tulum, and overall, it was a delightful experience. Positives: The hotel itself is stunning, with elegant décor and a welcoming atmosphere. My room was impeccably clean and well-maintained throughout my stay. I particularly appreciated the daily replenishment of the minibar, which added a nice touch of convenience and luxury. The standout feature of hotel is undoubtedly the staff. They were the most amazing team I've ever encountered at a hotel. From the warm welcome at check-in to the attentive service throughout my stay, they went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction. Negatives: Unfortunately, there were a couple of issues that impacted my experience. On the first night, there was no electricity in the area, they have a generated so we could use the basic things, but not the A/C in the room. While the staff were prompt and professional in addressing the situation, it was an inconvenience after a long day of travel. It took much longer than expected to receive my meal, which was a bit frustrating, especially on mornings when I had a tight schedule. This was a wonderful environment to relax. The only issue was that it seems that hot water in the shower was not always available. The food service was excellent but slow. Also we found that we could dine at other restaurants on the row for some variation. Cost of alcohol was higher than other restaurants...very clean, staff super...even made sandwiches for breakfast when we had to leave at 6:30 am

Very comfortable hotel with nice small restaurant on site. Two other hotels in the same ownership group are nearby so that you can walk to them and share the facilities. The pool here is small and the beach access small but you can walk down to a sister hotel And enjoy a change of pace there. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Very relaxed, low-key atmosphere far from the craziness of Cancun. Wonderful balcony and birds and stars at night.

Muy buena atención del hotel. Esta alejado de Tulum, llegamos temprano y de igual manera entramos a check-in esperando 20mins, el agua sale caliente (cosa que no me habia pasado en otros hoteles) el wifi va bien, buena electricidad, cama comoda!, somos mexicanos y quisimos conocer el mar caribeño, nos toco sargazo pero eso no empeoro la experiencia. Para moverte necesitas Taxi pero la misma recepción te ayuda, hay tienda cerca caminando y un cenote donde hay un cocodrilo, el agua es de piedras no es de arena normal pero igual te dan gratis calzado y chaleco! Puedes ir en kayak si esta desocupado, a nosotros nos limpiaron diariamente la habitación y super bien, la vista es hermosa. Pedimos la habitación con piscina y aunque hacia frio (por el clima) pudimos disfrutarla aunque las albercas del hotel no tanto por el frio. Hay dos hoteles vecinos donde puedes pasear ahi si tienen restaurante y muelle (eso me gusto porque puedes pasear por la playa) la vista es innegable. Llega mucho viento y se sigue sintiendo calientito dependiendo la temporada, es Febrero y comentan que se adelantó mucho el sargazo pero de verdad no empeora mucho porque puedes ir por el muelle. Es buen hotel, si quieres algo alejado de Tulum es tu opción, es un hotel comodo porque de verdad habia muchos que tenias que compartir el baño y la ducha, a mi me gusta la privacidad por eso este hotel me parecio 10/10, solo el tema es el movimiento por la zona sino rentaste transporte

The rooms were excellent and very clean. There was no restaurant open on the property. They can improve by including that in their description or letting guest know in advance. The water pump also broke for the day while being there. They were accommodating by letting us use a room near the hotel to go shower and use the bathroom in the mean time. However, we did have to walk out of our hotel to the next with our things. Once again, not their fault but very frustrating and inconvenient. You definitely need a car to get around if you are looking to get around the area to do restaurants, cenotes or walks in the city center.
