Very lousy location

Clean room with lovely view over the botanical gardens. Convenient location. Breakfast was good and included which is not often the case. Exactly what I would expect from a Radisson hotel. Convenient location between the old town and the new town areas.

We booked two rooms with breakfast on 21 July and requested that one of them have a queen-size bed. At check-in, we were told that the only way to have a larger bed was to pay for an upgrade to a king room. I fully understand that bed configurations are subject to availability, but the immediate focus on a paid upgrade, rather than trying to accommodate a request made weeks in advance, felt more like an upselling opportunity than guest service. Check-in itself was surprisingly cumbersome. I was asked to manually provide my home address and email address, despite the hotel already having our reservation details. More disappointingly, when I reached my room, there was a distinctly unpleasant smell. I reported these concerns through the hotel's feedback system during our stay, but received no response or follow-up. At check-out, reception specifically asked whether everything had been satisfactory. I explained the issues again, giving the hotel another opportunity to acknowledge or address them. Once again, nothing was offered or done. This was particularly disappointing because some members of staff were excellent: the housekeeping staff we encountered during breakfast were warm and helpful, as was the gentleman who looked after our luggage. Unfortunately, the reception experience, both at check-in and check-out, was the complete opposite. Problems can occur in any hotel. What defines good hospitality is how they are handled.

Breakfast was very good, the bed excellent! The duvets were so good we were very tempted to buy ourselves the same for home. Location was quiet but very central. First when we popped in for an afternoon rest, our tv remote didn't work (we suspect the previous occupant took the batteries), but this got remedied immediately. In the evening the reception made us cocktails even though the bar had just shut.
