Kincraig Castle Hotel

I would look to avoid this hotel on a future visit. It is run down and fallen into the hands of an owner who is clearly skimping on costs. Understaffed with a poor food and beverage service. Food was served lukewarm and the lines need cleaning with the beer tasting off. Staff appeared to be provided with little support from management.

We enjoyed our stay here and thought it was good value. Food in the restaurant was very tasty (although limited choice - only three starters, three mains (one was veggie); breakfast was very good. Friendly staff on reception, but service was very slow in the restaurant and we had to ask for our drinks which still hadn't arrived by the time our main course was served. Beautiful lounge area and bar, fantastic property and rooms were very large and spacious - but there are a lot of maintenance issues that need addressing (windows that couldn't be opened in bathroom, slightly dodgy socket in bedroom). Shame the fires weren't lit as it was a bit cold in both the lounge and dining room. But we enjoyed our stay, in a beautiful location and at a good price.

A wonderful place to stay, though only an OK place to eat if nothing else close by. The building is full of character in a good way, the setting is lovely, and the rooms renovated carefully to a high standard. The public areas are also lovely, and the staff welcoming and helpful. All in all it would look like a nice up-market hotel. However, I don't think that's maybe their target market right now. I think they may be needing to go after the corporate market at the moment - maybe everything has got so expensive they're aren't enough people on holidays or weekends away. For that kind of place, the rooms and public areas are amazing, and the food is more or less what you'd expect from a corporate-customer hotel. Specifically, our dining room food was fine, as you might get in a competent budget kind of restaurant, but other diners were not as happy. It didn't quite get to a Fawlty Towers level, but the customer's complaints were made in a courteous but firm way, while the staff got a bit defensive. I don't think the customer was ever made happy, and I'm not sure the staff ever got to the point of apologizing (even if they couldn't really control the quality of the food, which in this case was a steak). The food was also very slow to come. For breakfast it's certainly a level above the Holiday Inn Express cold buffet, with a choice of one hot item cooked to order and the rest with what was out, and it was fine too. If it was a budget hotel you'd even maybe say good.

This was a beautiful place to stay and the staff were awesome. We especially liked Vijay who was friendly, helpful and wonderful. Denise in the restaurant (evening) was also lovely. Thank you for a memorable stay.

The public areas are beautiful but the rooms are in need of an upgrade. Wallpaper beginning to hang off, bathroom needs renewing. Hairdryer is 20 years old im guessing. Short of staff, never anyone behind the bar. Some staff only speak broken English. No staff in Scottish dress. Its an ok hotel. Nice breakfast
