Cannot fault my stay here. Very nice check in friendly staff, nice bar area, excellent gym and pool/sauna. Just a very nice feel to the place. My only gripe would be having to pay for parking although only £3 if you booked direct through the hotel there was no charge. Seems unfair. And also very limited 0% alcohol selection in the bar. I will definitely be staying here again though.

Check in was effortless with a nice chat with the receptionist. I had upgraded my room for this visit and it was really comfortable with a large bed and a coffee machine, but other than this the standard room I usually have is very good. As ever I used the gym and the pool which are both really good for a hotel. Only problem was, as it's the school holidays the kids were enjoying themselves in the usually tranquil pool,lol. There is an adult only period in the pool from 7pm. Food and service in the restaurant was as good as ever. The hotel also has good size carpark which is charged for but not a big cost. This really is an ideal base for visiting Aberdeen.

Parking used to be free but now there is a charge. The car park is full of pot holes and impossible to leave without hitting potholes. No mention of charge on booking. At check in we were informed that the lifts were not working. We have a 5 month old baby and another young child. Everytime we had to go to / from our room we had to take a pram up / down 2 flights of stairs. At one point our baby almost fell out of the pram wholst doing this. It made taking suitcases, pram etc very difficult. No compensation or alternative room arrangements were offered. Staff didn't seem to care. No mention the lifts were not working at time of booking however reception staff said they hadn't been working for some time. The restaurant had rotten fruit and when I ordered a vegan desert, it came with ice cream. I pointed this out and the waiter then brought the plate back with sorbet (not the blood orange flavour on the menu but a raspberry one), but the cake, strawberry and sorbet were on top of cream! The waiter dumped the plate and left as quick as he could before I could say anything about the cream. This is an allergy not a preference and we felt our needs were not taken seriously. The room was noisy, next to the lifts which seemed to be making a noise of going up and down, although they were not working. Only 3 towels provided in a room booked for 4. Reception said we only need to ask for more but my point was we shouldn't need to ask.

Good hotel comfortable beds . Got a goods night sleep took 4 yr old granson swimming twice pool not huge but well maintained and managed they have a small kiddies pool as well as the main pool there is also a jacuzzi and sauna as well as gym. Restaurant food was fealky nice frkm breakfast to dinner we all enjoyed it .

The reception staff was extremely rude and not accomodating. It was easter break when i visited. I had booked the pool for use with my son btw 4pm - 5pm post check in but was sent back when we arrived at the pool by the staff. Staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. There was no mannerism in her speaking - she mentioned i cant go in even though i have booked in with my room. I was disappointed by her behaviour and reported it to the front desk only to get an answer " she is new" but not a solution to the inconvenience i had faced. My son and I booked the hotel mainly for the pool use and some time together. After hours of my argument for a solution, i was offered to come between 6am -7am the next day. I did it for my son but am never visiting again. Ruined our time and relaxation there.

Just home from a two day stay at this hotel. Overall our stay was nice. There were some really good points and some annoying points. I will start with the good: - The young guy and the young girl manning the pool were really nice and friendly and very accommodating helping us book the pool times. - The room was really nice and big and clean. - The breakfast was tasty and the restaurant was nice. The bad points: - You have to pay to park at the hotel which I found to be ludacris since we travelled there and had to park there. Even though it was only £3 per night with the half price token, I have never had to pay to park at a hotel before when I’ve been staying there. - One of the breakfast staff was rude when we asked if there were any more pancakes. She promptly responded by saying, ‘I don’t know you will have to ask one of my colleagues’ then walked away. However the other man working the breakfast area seemed to be running around doing everything and he was really friendly. - There was a wedding on at the venue and there was so much noise through the night with people speaking loud and running through the corridors. It was not peaceful at all that night. Overall I did enjoy the stay and would come back.

Food in the restaurant was good and not too expensive. Delicious breakfast. The pool was a little too small to swim in with the water babies class going on. Disappointed to have to pay for parking. Overall a nice stay.

The hotel was ok, Shame the lifts were out of order during our stay, I wasn’t happy with them having the car park repaired while people were using it as the contractors were cutting the car park floor and dust and stones covering parked cars (not thoughtful at all)

Expected a lot more from a 4 star hotel. - Checked in fine and was directed to the first floor only to find out the room was on the ground floor. - Beds comfortable but on further inspection discovered a suspicious brown stain on the sheet. - Coffee machine not cleaned - Breakfast ordered to room night before - Arrived on time in morning but missing butter, ordered brown bread given granary, all cereal missing, not appetising to look at. - Shower dirty on arrival. - Glass chipped in room leaving sharp edge, luckily saw this before my son drank from it. Overall, would not stay here again.

We enjoyed our first stay at Aberdeen Altens Hotel, the staff were all very welcoming and friendly. It’s a great location for being out of the hustle & bustle of the city centre. We got the bus into town which was great as no parking fees etc. we used the pool which was brilliant, caters for all and isn’t overcrowded. The restaurant was spacious and lovely, relaxing interior, breakfast was great, really good variety. Our room was nice, spacious and on the ground floor, only negative I have is there was a long hair on the bath tap the bath was clean so not too much of an issue, the bottom of the bathroom door was chipped all along the bottom the wood looked like it was ruined from water. The beds are on wheels so moved very easily which wasn’t ideal with a toddler, under the beds really needed a hoover as the were dusty however, the beds were clean as was the rest of the room. We stayed in room 134 and will definitely stay at the Altens again.

Fabulous hotel. Staff were extremely polite, attentive and friendly. The whole hotel was spotless. Very comfortable bed. Spacious room which was well equipped with hairdryer, iron, ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities and even a fan. Leisure facilities fantastic. We were here for a wedding and function rooms were lovely. Food at the event was delicious and breakfast was great too. No complaints. Highly recommend.

Walked in to an unflushed toilet that hadn’t been cleaned. Was then told the pool was fully booked. There was never any mention of having to book the pool and the pool facilities were the main reason for our stay. Highly disappointed with this place. We were very excited to stay here.

The hotel itself is very dated. Drafty rooms , with single pane windows. Only heat option is the ceiling mounted until which sounds like an aeroplane. Not a comfortable sleep at all. The pool area was not the cleanest, I would describe as grubby. Dinner was nice but definitely overpriced- staff were absolutely lovely. Breakfast was “ok” but again way overpriced.

Great entrance good welcome at the reception room spacious nice big bed great there is a fan in the room! Thought the room could have been cleaner IE carpet and thick dust on bathroom door Food was very disappointing nothing like when we visited late last year reheated chips club sandwich was very poor bacon was reheated like rubber breakfast was ok but not the way it was.

Very long walk to the room, room was a little tired, bed being on wheels means sitting up in bed is a challenge with out falling down the back. Found the bed quite uncomfortable. Window didn’t shut properly due to a broken handle so the loud road outside was a constant irritant. Check in staff refused cash as a payment. Small tv in the room but working on most channels. Shower was either roasting or cold. Just a typical old budget hotel in need of a refurb.

It was a nice room. Bathroom was a good size, nice light from the windows and the bed was large too. My only negative is that it was quite a hard bed and I get quite a sore back from hard beds so was in a bit of pain in the morning (fyi I’m under the age of 40 😂). Great size room though.

Room was fine, if a little dated. However, far to hot. Had the window open and the fan on constantly - no air-con. I had to ask reception for another pillow as the ones in the room were so uncomfortable. They were old, flat and rock solid. The pillow given wasn't much better. Although we said we didn't need beds made or towels changed, I would still expect milk & coffee to be replenished. We had to request these at reception. Food was very good, with big portions. However, the drink was expensive.

Had a lovely stay, I was there for business. The WiFi worked well which is a plus. Had a problem with the TV and the delightful duty manager tried her best to fix it before swapping it for another one, apologising for any inconvenience. I had a splendid burger with chilli and cheese with a side of onion rings, which was a great day to end the day. Popped into the gym and pool for a couple of workouts and a swim. The gym is much better than the normal hotel gym, more like a private club gym. I would recommend staying and will be there again on my next visit to Aberdeen.

Restaurant staff lovely, but chilliest welcome ever received from reception staff. Complete lack of warmth. Rooms comfy enough but furniture worn and chairs almost worn out. Ridiculous to have to pay to park in an out of town hotel with a huge car park. Expensive for what it is.

Check in was effortless with a nice chat with the receptionist. I had upgraded my room for this visit and it was really comfortable with a large bed and a coffee machine, but other than this the standard room I usually have is very good. As ever I used the gym and the pool which are both really good for a hotel. Only problem was, as it's the school holidays the kids were enjoying themselves in the usually tranquil pool,lol. There is an adult only period in the pool from 7pm. Food and service in the restaurant was as good as ever. The hotel also has good size carpark which is charged for but not a big cost. This really is an ideal base for visiting Aberdeen.

Room was opposite a door that said 'Angus Room' I wonder if it was a cleaning cupboard. Noise continuously throughout the night of door banging and very creaky when opening. Poor sleep. Then in the morning a cleaner walked straight into our room. Mentioned all this at check out and the receptionist had an attitude like he couldn't care less. Disappointing.

Just home from a two day stay at this hotel. Overall our stay was nice. There were some really good points and some annoying points. I will start with the good: - The young guy and the young girl manning the pool were really nice and friendly and very accommodating helping us book the pool times. - The room was really nice and big and clean. - The breakfast was tasty and the restaurant was nice. The bad points: - You have to pay to park at the hotel which I found to be ludacris since we travelled there and had to park there. Even though it was only £3 per night with the half price token, I have never had to pay to park at a hotel before when I’ve been staying there. - One of the breakfast staff was rude when we asked if there were any more pancakes. She promptly responded by saying, ‘I don’t know you will have to ask one of my colleagues’ then walked away. However the other man working the breakfast area seemed to be running around doing everything and he was really friendly. - There was a wedding on at the venue and there was so much noise through the night with people speaking loud and running through the corridors. It was not peaceful at all that night. Overall I did enjoy the stay and would come back.

Had a lovely stay, I was there for business. The WiFi worked well which is a plus. Had a problem with the TV and the delightful duty manager tried her best to fix it before swapping it for another one, apologising for any inconvenience. I had a splendid burger with chilli and cheese with a side of onion rings, which was a great day to end the day. Popped into the gym and pool for a couple of workouts and a swim. The gym is much better than the normal hotel gym, more like a private club gym. I would recommend staying and will be there again on my next visit to Aberdeen.

A very large hotel with pool and gym facilities on the southern edge of Aberdeen. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable and pool was small but clean. I did not use the bar or restaurant. The area around the hotel is uninteresting so a car is advisable. Staff helpful.

Several years ago the Hotel had a nice lounge bar where you could wander in after work or a long journey, sit in a comfortable environment having a drink while reading the paper or catching up on a few e-mails or social media. You then had the option of a bar meal or going through to the restaurant for dinner. The two areas have now been combined into one utilitarian space reminiscent of a fast food place. It's not warm and welcoming at all. Wandering in isn't an option since you table has to be booked in advance. The tables are basic and unset. There's not even salt and pepper on them. The prices have gone up and up. £6 a pint for Tennants Lager and £17 for a small fish with chips. You don't even get a table cloth. One thing I always liked about this hotel was that it had lots of free parking which was better than paying for parking in town. Sadly the free parking is no more. The rooms are clean and the water is always hot. Tea and coffee making facilities are very welcome though a small fridge for the perishables you may have for your onward journey would be nice.

Very clean. Great furniture, decoration and facilities. Some room for improvement regarding staff kindness and definitely the worst breakfast I've ever had in a 4 star hotel.... no fried eggs, no scones, no hash browns.... low variety and quality in general.... just horrible.
