First the good points: - good nights sleep in comfy bed - were given a free upgrade to a larger room on the lower floor of the accomodation block - still up a big flight of stairs and separate from the main building (we were initially put up a further 2 floors and my other half really struggled with the stairs). Now the less good and problems: - the shower over the jacuzzi bath was lethal. The bath moved substantially under my feet, there was no handrail to hold onto whilst climbing in and out over very slippery surfaces and when I tried to shower in the morning it was far too hot as no cold water came through. My other half never dared risk it. - the hot water from the taps was scalding at times (others have said this and obviously no recommended temperature limiting system was fitted). - there is no lift necessitatimg climbing 3 flights of steps to the top floor - you have to walk outside to get to the main building We wouldn't recommend this hotel and won't be staying again.

Booked an Executive Room, very disappointed, had to carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs, room 39 clean but dated, bathroom desperately needs attention / refit. Hot water tap didn't work, the Loo flushing was 'unique'and the Shower was great if you are under 4ft tall! But Dinner was good, view amazing and the few staff I spoke with very pleasant. No one on Reception when I left to discuss this with as not manned till 8am

Pretty, old building. Very comfortable, lovely big bath with huge rainfall showerhead and also moveabke shower. Decent sized tv, everything you could need in the room - hairdryer, fan, extra heater, duvet, extra towels, kettle, etc. Didn't use the restaurant or bar but the bar/lounge area looked lovely.

A really comfortable stay in this lovely hotel. We were lucky to enjoy some sunny weather, so a bonus to sit outside on the decking looking out to the gorgeous view.

Last minute booking, first impressions as you go down the drive are what a beautiful building. Lovely welcome. Our room was clean up on the top floor and bed was really comfy! We had drinks and snacks in the bar, we didn’t eat a main evening meal or breakfast as we’d eaten before arriving. Only thing to note was carpets in hallways were very stained and tired but other than that a lovely stay.

Beautiful hotel grounds, staff are extremely friendly, rooms are very clean but a little dated - the bathtub and shower had very obvious signs of wear with cracked tiles, very old and outdated shower taps, stains and scratches on the bottom of the tub. The provided toiletries gels were a lovely quality (The White Company) and the view from the room was so gorgeous. The stay was quiet and we barely heard other guests or noise from outside. We would have liked a bigger bed for the room rate, although what was provided was comfortable. The TV and the provided fan need updating for it to be true luxury. The restaurant staff were so lovely, and the food was excellent! Drinks were of excellent choice too and my dirty martini was delicious. Definitely recommend eating and drinking on-site. Thank you for a lovely stay!

The bathroom was equipped with a bath, but very outdated in that the tiles around bath and floor had dark mould in places, which really isn't good. The classic room had a lovely view, was cosy and neat. However, the kettle is tucked in a drawer, and upon putting it on the desk and trying to plug it in found that the cord was so short as to make the kettle teeter on the edge of the table - which is very dangerous for boiling water. One of the bedside lamps didn't work. The duvet was very thin. I tried to book direct with the hotel, but was sent to voicemail, so I booked with hotels.com - only to be told quite abruptly that breakfast wasn't included, but if I'd booked direct with the hotel I would have received a complimentary breakfast. This was quite a rude thing to be told on one's arrival I felt. In any case the restaurant service was lovely, and the food was of good quality. The views are lovely.

Very nice hotel. Service in the bar was excellent, and staff on reception very helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was fine, but could do with being updated at some point, but wouldn’t put me off from staying there again.

The hotel is tired and in need of refurbishment. The carpets in the hallways are worn and dirty. The fridge in the room was not working and the solution which came from the duty manager was to give me a bag of ice. Our room was small and had a large area of restricted headroom which caused several bumped heads. Several of the electrical sockets could not be accessed due to them being located behind a heavy desk. The en-suite had a lovely large bath but the plug did not seal. The room was not cheap and we were very disappointed.

Amazing location, views and helpful staff. Food good too, breakfast and evening meals. Bedroom recently decorated, but bathroom fixtures a little tired. Shower door came off it's runners, which reception staff said has happened several times plus bathroom taps very stiff! (room 4)

Overnight stay to break up a long journey to Cornwall. Great location and very pleasant surroundings. Great views over the valley. Only slight issue was our room had a double bed in whereas most nowadays have at least two singles pushed together which are a bit bigger but for what it was , I would recommend this hotel.

The room was supposed to be superior, very tired needed maintaining better. Staff were friendly but multitasking in bar restaurant and reception, so service in bar and restaurant was slow. Price paid for room too high for standard. We would not stay here again

Room service was poor - the order was wrong. There is no way of contacting reception apart from walking down to them. They need to get proper comms between guests and staff, it's not okay to have to walk down a couple of flights of stairs and across a courtyard, then wait, to let them know they got your very basic food order wrong. Second problem, the rooms at the top are baking hot in the summer (no idea about other seasons). There is no aircon. Third problem, the rooms on the top floor have very limited ceilings. Only a tiny child could walk around the low eaves of the top floor rooms. I was travelling solo and in a double room, but anybody in the far side of the bed would have needed to double over to get out of the bed to the bathroom. Lovely building, not a good place to stay.

I tried to book direct with the hotel, but was sent to voicemail, so I booked with hotels.com - only to be told quite abruptly that breakfast wasn't included, but if I'd booked direct with the hotel I would have received a complimentary breakfast. This was quite a rude thing to be told on one's arrival I felt. In any case the restaurant service was lovely, and the food was of good quality. The views are lovely.
The bathroom was equipped with a bath, but very outdated in that the tiles around bath and floor had dark mould in places, which really isn't good. The classic room had a lovely view, was cosy and neat. However, the kettle is tucked in a drawer, and upon putting it on the desk and trying to plug it in found that the cord was so short as to make the kettle teeter on the edge of the table - which is very dangerous for boiling water. Very nice hotel. Service in the bar was excellent, and staff on reception very helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was fine, but could do with being updated at some point, but wouldn’t put me off from staying there again.

Excellent room, spotless and comfortable. All staff were good and the customer service very good. A special mention to Ellis who was excellent in both his manner and professionalism and is an asset to the team . Thoroughly enjoyed our stay .

Room service was poor - the order was wrong. There is no way of contacting reception apart from walking down to them. They need to get proper comms between guests and staff, it's not okay to have to walk down a couple of flights of stairs and across a courtyard, then wait, to let them know they got your very basic food order wrong. Second problem, the rooms at the top are baking hot in the summer (no idea about other seasons). There is no aircon. Third problem, the rooms on the top floor have very limited ceilings. Only a tiny child could walk around the low eaves of the top floor rooms. I was travelling solo and in a double room, but anybody in the far side of the bed would have needed to double over to get out of the bed to the bathroom. Lovely building, not a good place to stay.

Lovely hotel with amazing views. The staff although a bit scared at times, were excellent. Gloucester is easily reachable by car, we had a fantastic meal at the docks both for dinner and a late breakfast. The cathedral is a must, we had a really interesting guided tour.

Beautiful hotel grounds, staff are extremely friendly, rooms are very clean but a little dated - the bathtub and shower had very obvious signs of wear with cracked tiles, very old and outdated shower taps, stains and scratches on the bottom of the tub. The provided toiletries gels were a lovely quality (The White Company) and the view from the room was so gorgeous. The stay was quiet and we barely heard other guests or noise from outside. We would have liked a bigger bed for the room rate, although what was provided was comfortable. The TV and the provided fan need updating for it to be true luxury. The restaurant staff were so lovely, and the food was excellent! Drinks were of excellent choice too and my dirty martini was delicious. Definitely recommend eating and drinking on-site. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Overnight stay to break up a long journey to Cornwall. Great location and very pleasant surroundings. Great views over the valley. Only slight issue was our room had a double bed in whereas most nowadays have at least two singles pushed together which are a bit bigger but for what it was , I would recommend this hotel.

A somewhat tired hotel (who puts light coloured carpets in a busy public area that badly need cleaning)? A great location and a good sleep however before a business meeting in the hotel... shocked to have to pay an extra £15 for a very average breakfast....No advance warning!!
