Room was fine. Hotel was nice. Booked as had pool and little girl (3) lives swimming. Only on arrival did I find out that under 18s couldn’t use the pool except between 3-5 which was no good for us. Extremely disappointed by this.

It is a quaint hotel in lovely grounds. The bar and Central area was beautiful. The executive room (9) was cosy but adequate. The bed was comfy, the shower was good and the room was clean and tidy. The toilet was very low so not suitable for someone with mobility issues. There was also no lift so lugging a large suitcase up the stairs was fun! Breakfast was good. Staff were all excellent. Had a problem finding a car parking space near the entrance. It must be a parking hotel for the cruises so it was a little walk back to the car each day. Overall, a lovely stay.

Hotel was superb, and the breakfast excellent. Fire alarm at 2am wasn’t ideal, but nobody’s fault. My one disappointment was that we specifically booked the hotel because it had a pool, but we were unable to use it as our daughter wasn't 18, which wasn't made clear on the Hotel.com website.

It is clear that the hotel used to be the top place in the area but those days are long gone. The property is absolutely stunning but has been left poorly maintained. Steps around the property are falling apart, grass hasn't been cut in many areas. The conservation area just next to the hotel is stunning bht it would help to have some signs in different areas to explain what you are looking at. Check in was smooth at 3pm, althought after paying the dog fee for our stay, we were asked to sign a document confirming we will not leave the dog in the room unattanded for any period of time. This is something we haven't encountered in any dog friendly hotel before. We were given a some treats for the dog, which was nice. The prices for food and drink in the hotel are steep and dont really reflect the service. We ordered a mocktail after which they admitted they have never made that before and didnt know it was on the menu. The room was clean and warm but dated and the walls are paper thin. The spa is 5 minutes walk from the main building in the Club. We have been told in the reception that the Club receptionist will be able to tell us all about the treatments and prices which we are excited to book. The Club reception told us the spa section of the Club has been rented to a private company and they are not offering any treatments yet, so nothing available. The pool was slightly on a the colder side but spacious. The jacuzzi was covered in foam, sauna was cold, I could keep going...

Very disappointed that the staff stopped my children from using the swimming pool even though no one else was using it. There was nothing to say kids weren’t allowed in the pool when we booked. Completely unfair and unreasonable. Staff generally indifferent throughout the visit.

Hotel description said there was a lift .But not in the part of the hotel we were in! We had a room on the second floor as far as possible away from the reception areas with several flights of stairs, Had we known this we would have asked for a lower floor or in the building with a lift. Or chosen an alternative hotel, They were fully booked so no chance of changing to an alternative room. After our evening out we arrived back just before 11 and were told the bar was closed. This seems very unusual for a Saturday night and a hotel that has so many customers. There were no biscuits or complimentary bottles of water in the room, something which you would expect for the amount charged for the one night. The shower could certainly do with a deep clean and the sealant refreshed . Whilst showering the shower tray was full and we had to use our feet as plungers to get the water to runaway. If we hadn’t done this there would have been a serious leak We also found it very difficult to find a parking space anywhere near the hotel and it was pouring with rain. We later discovered that the hotel is used by customer who are going on cruises and are leaving cars parked for weeks at a time. Making it difficult for non cruise customers to get anywhere near the main entrance. The description says there is an indoor swimming pool, this is very misleading as it is not in the hotel itself but a few hundred yards away in a sports venue. So overall we were very disappointed with our stay.

Unfortunately our stay was not good. We really echo some other reviews in that the hotel bedrooms need a massive overhaul, out dated furniture, dull decor, dirty carpets, boiling hot (too hot to get a decent night sleep), mould on bathroom ceiling, we could add more but to be honest would just rather erase the experience!

We had a 1 night stay before our cruise the next day , we stayed in room 21 All the staff were lovely and food was really good The hotel is in beautiful grounds and is a very historical grand building But I’m afraid things needs updating , huge horrible stains in carpets in room and around hotel , wallpaper peeling off the wall in bedroom , and large stain on the ceiling , shower bath area needs re grouting , mould around seal , old paint left on door handles etc Needs someone to go round make a list of repairs and sort out , was a little dirty around floor in the bathroom too One more thing to add , coffee machine in restaurant for breakfast doesn’t offer decaf coffee !!! With a husband with heart failure this isn’t good enough It’s 2025 Apart from the above , not a bad stay Not sure it was worth £152

Rooms very outdated and the cleanliness of the bathroom was especially bad. Broken facilities such as the toilets in the restaurant area, clogged up and dirty. Our bathtub had chips in it, and the shower curtain was yellow clearly due to rust/dirt from the pole. Overall quite an unpleasant experience in terms of our room. Although, the food and breakfast was spot on, lovely service and delicious food.

The breakfast was good and the reception was friendly but the condition of the hotel wasn’t great. The bathroom wasn’t very clean and the glasses and spoons in the room were dirty. The carpets were very stained as well.

We’ve stayed for one night. The area is beautiful with plenty of space and views. What I would only change is that we’ve stayed during the hottest weekend of the year and there is no air conditioning in the rooms, however thanks to fan in the room and very kind receptionist that went extra mile to get us lots of ice, we had enjoyable time. We loved the swimming pool too- very clean and quiet.

Lovely hotel I would recommend but more suitable for personal/ couples stay not business trip, food was lovely. friendly atmosphere. The only negative I would say is although I paid extra for an executive room - the room I was given was not up to that standard and was very basic and small compared to other hotels standards.

Arrived late and received a small (i mean no room to put two suitcases down) twin bed not even a queen size so truly a small room. Had the amenities i imagine for a renovated or converted older build type hotel, no AC however and windows that didn't seem to want to open much.... requested room turn over each night and got 2 out of 4...the last day we asked for just towels and despite there being two of us got one set! Got the romance package and told them we were arriving late (1030)...the ice had melted by the time we arrived! while good at the time, the then eaten chocolate strawberries that i requested (as a treat for my partner) stayed in the room for 2 days until i moved them outside the door where they stayed until the end of day 3... yes these are all first world problems but make a difference to the overall impression and service ethos of a place... staff were available, just not always effective, a pet friendly place, so lots of four legged greetings in the lobby the hot breakfast was way over priced for the contents, but hey ho we tried... In summary a lovely setting for one or maybe two nights... Oh PS, we went to the pool / spa...pool not available due to pre planned kids lessons / other activities, spa, looked fantastic but we sat and waited to find out more and the place seemed way under staffed, so we moved on....

Breakfast was very nice and plenty of options, rooms were good size but needed a bit of updating as we were in main building it was starting to look like it needed a refresh in the main bedroom bathroom was good and nice showers etc. grounds are lovely and the overall value for money is good.

I was greeted warmly by a male receptionist. It was late as I had been to a concert at Romsey Abbey. Parking was difficult close to the hotel but found spaces in The Club area. My room was ok but needed a bit of modernising. Bathroom was more modern but had shower curtain rather than a screen. I personally prefer a walk in shower to a shower over the bath. The room was so hot. The window did open but still hot. A notice said keep bathroom door closed when using. I didn’t do that as I realised I couldn’t turn the door knob so if I had pushed the door closed I wouldn’t have been able to open it again! Breakfast was very good and the staff were very friendly.

We had room 6- Room 6 has the kitchen extractor fan going through the room in a cupboard- so a constant humming grumbling noise. I spoke to a member of staff about moving they said not possible as fully booked- the kitchen will turn off the extractor about 9 o’clock at night- it turned off at 09;45 - then turned back on for breakfast at 5;30- on a Sunday. The one night we stayed there was terrible, the guest who was in the next room to us did nothing but snore all night, then in the early hours decided to have an argument with a relative. We could hear every word which was said and all because we were in a room with an adjoining door! It was hell all night! The hotel and the grounds are lovely but not the rooms sorry.They need updating.And soundproofing !!!

I am disabled and rely on a mobility scooter. Cons: Ramp to terraced garden was difficult to negotiate but fortunately I can walk a few meters so parked the scooter by the ramp. Couldn't fit my scooter in the room so parked in the corridor. Food and dirty dishes left outside all afternoon. Chips not cooked properly with sandwich. Food pricey and poor menu choice. Disabled facilities by swimming pool very shabby and locker door hanging off the hinges though this was fixed two days after I reported it. Poor wifi in my room. Pros: The hotel is in a beautiful setting with some incredible trees. The main corridor on the ground floor was ramped perfectly for every change of level. Very easy to get to my room (110) at the far end of the building. Access through the bar and main entrance was also excellent. The room was small but clean and functional and the bed was very comfortable. I slept very well. Very warm temperatures while we were there, but our room was cool and a fan was provided. All the staff were lovely, cheery and happy to have a little chat, this really adds to the atmosphere of this very impressive building. The swimming pool was excellent. A good size and again, the staff were great. Overall, I wouldn't let the few negatives put me off and will definitely return. Highly recommended.

Beautiful building in a quiet location. The staff were very helpful especially the receptionist Natalie who was very understanding over my predicament of maybe needing a room if my Dad was released from hospital late that same day. Good breakfast. Fan in room which I used as it was warm.

I became quite unwell during my stay and had to ask for some first aid assistance. The reacted with dignity and speed - they were at my room in moments and settled me. then someone else came back a little later to check on me, Never had to ask for assistance like that before but was really thankful

The hotel is very nice, the room was big, and the bed was comfortable. However, the main shower head did not work properly (no hot water), there was no shower gel in the dispenser, and the TV had no signal (no channels available). When I tried to contact reception using the room telephone it was constantly engaged. When I went down to the reception, the receptionist was talking on the phone to her friend using the main hotel phone. To be fair to the other hotel staff, they did respond promptly, fixed the TV and refilled the shower gel. I would not stay there again or recommend.

An excellent place to stay after a long international flight. From Rob at the front desk to Evan at the bar - and all other staff, including those in housekeeping and serving in the restaurant - they all make customer care a priority. The setting was tranquil and the price was reasonable. I enjoyed dining in the small on-site restaurant with only about a dozen tables. The food was tasty and the service was stellar. Definitely a place to return to again and again!

Great location but hotel is dated, tired and needs some love When trying to ring reception prior to arrival, very frustrated as it kept going to ansaphone, didnt get ring back and just felt that for such a large hotel having someone answer the phone is fundamental, we tried at least 6 times between 10am -11.30am on a Saturday morning We noticed Stains on carpets in corridors, rubbish in stairwells, walls were marked Room was fine, clean but quite old fashioned Breakfast was ok, buffet style, self service, but slow to replenish empty food, ie no eggs, juice jug empty, only one hot drink machine working The stay was fine, definitely no more than 3 star

The food was delicious, but due to an event, our first night was unbearable due to excessive noise. The hotel refunded this night so that was commendable. Overall the stay was good but the facilities are not as nice as shown in the pics. The camera person should be nominated for photographer of the year.

Every member of staff from Front desk, to restaurant staff, to cleaners and swimming pool reception, were helpful and friendly a credit to the hotel. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms comfortable and the food delicious. We will certainly return

Extremely RUDE check-in staff!!! We had checked-in online and was asked the arrival time which I gave as 11am and was surprised the options were so early. On arrival, I was informed check-in was from 3pm! I highlighted that we had checked in online and was given the option of 11am to which I was abruptly informed "You can check-in early and will cost you £25.00" the website didn't mention a huge surcharge if we wanted to check-in early! I asked were the rooms ready and the 2 check-in ladies looked at each other and started mouthing something and 1 started to call housekeeping then hung up and exclaimed NO!, I commented you haven't called housekeeping so how can you tell??? She then proceeded to glance at her monitor and exclaim "my screen informs me"🤔 we passed on the offer of the £25.00 Surcharge and returned later. I believe this is misleading coupled with the rude staff It was a very disappointing experience!!!

Lovely well-presented hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Out Standard Double room was comfortable, with all the amenities you'd like for a night's stay. The surrounding gardens were superb, and the hotel was very accessible to the local area and main routes.

The hotel and staff were amazing, we loved the hotel and the beautiful grounds. The location was ideal visiting the New Forest and Southampton. The only thing that spoiled our trip was the stupidly expensive bar prices, We stay in a lot of hotels, so we are used to inflated prices, but these were obcene for mid ranged hotel! £21 for a pint of Carlsberg and Gin& Tonic!!

Lovely hotel with friendly and welcoming staff. The pool and jacuzzi etc were fabulous and the receptionist on duty during my visit was super lovely. Amazing attention to detail in the room including a split bin to help recycle used packaging etc. Could perhaps have used and extra cover for the bed but otherwise a great room, great stay and great staff. The breakfast was superb with plenty of choice and great service. All in all a wonderful stay and I shall definitely be a returning guest.

I fully described my highly unsatisfactory experience at dinner on the 24th May 2023 in my previous comments sent to your site that day. It was appalling and our experience at breakfast the following morning was equally poor. The food was limited and in some cases, ie, sausages, not properly cooked. The dining area was cluttered with with uncleared tables and the whole atmosphere was below par. There were too few staff for the number of diners. They were not to blame and did their best in the circumstances, but were clearly demoralised, overworked and underappreciated by management. The desk staff on arrival were excellent and welcoming in marked contrast to the following morning, at best, disinterested. Most of the bar and waiting staff were very young and not properly trained and the more experienced were too busy and preoccupied to remedy the situation. Sadly, we would not return despite the beautiful surroundings and wonderful potential of the hotel and grounds

The hotel facilities were very good as was the swimming pool & gym areas.The one problem we had (first world problem) was that there was no hot breakfast due to no gas or no chef depending on who you talked to.I just wish they had been honest about what the problem was,we all know that stuff happens out of your control.Just be honest.

Nice comfortable and clean room. Very good breakfast. Staff very polite. Dinner menu has changed and is not very suitable. It's a sort of tapas style but it just doesn't work for an English country hotel. The food was cooked well but the choice on the menu is disappointing and the plates arrive at different times, as they are cooked. On the second night of my stay I chose to eat at a local pub.

Excellent value for money hotel. Clean, tidy. Needs a bit of decorating here and there. We had a great breakfast and the dinner was lovely but felt it was a bit much asking for payment up front for the meal! (Yet you could pay for your drinks afterwards in the restaurant....???) Sounds like they dont trust anyone! Other than that, it would be nice to offer different pillow options. One was insufficient, two was too much. I had a stiff neck the following morning..despite it being a very comfortable bed. All in all, I would use again...despite these small niggles!

I am Gluten free and found the bread offered inedible resembling cardboard. Pity as porridge was good. And staff very helpful otherwise. Iam also partly disabled and need a walk in shower, which I was expecting. Consequently I was unable to shower as I couldn't get into the bath. We would definitely come again if I can have a walk in shower and better GF bread please. Thank you
