Stayed 2 nights

I stay in hotels a lot and all I ask is a comfy bed, cleanliness and hot water. Balmoral Lodge failed in two of the three! In the family room, the day bed type single bed was surprisingly comfy, but I had to upend and shake the mattress as the bottom sheet was covered in a very fine black powder, like pepper dust. There were cobwebs all over the coving, dirty corners and two of the drawers were broken. The bathroom had the worst attempt at silicon sealant that I have ever seen. Most unforgivable however, was the fact that in our two night stay, the water never got hotter than lukewarm. A bath was impossible and a shower was a gritted teeth experience. The public areas were also very tired, with artexed WALLS and wrinkled lino. Having said that, even a place in need of refreshing can and should be clean and in good repair! It was all such a shame as the bones of the building are beautiful and it could be magnificent! However, it felt like the owners had given up on it entirely

The lady at reception was lovely. And the building inside and out is very dated. But I did expect the rooms to be clean. The room was dirty. Cobwebs everywhere. I personally would not shower in the bathroom as there was no hot water, again dirty. Was supposed to stay two nights ,but we left the next morning. Will not go back.

Stayed 8 nights

Not as good as before. Stayed a few times but this time the bed was like a childs bed and lots of mold around the shower. Cleaning was twice in a week, had to make own bed on other days even though I have a disability. Reception not manned after late afternoons, general impression that if you want anything after late afternoon you are a nuisance. I didn't try breakfast this time.

The hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff were warm and friendly and will do anything to make your stay satisfying. There is ample parking, within walking distance of southport and its amenities. They do a very good value breakfast at £5 which includes a fry.

We parked easily, the property was quiet & secure. The hosts were great .. so friendly, conveniently located for our needs … the breakfast was incredible value too. Yes, the property is dated, however it is all about expectations, and for the amount paid it’s a treat … if you expect the Ritz you’ll be disappointed & if you want a standard Travelodge experience again the Balmoral Hotel is not for you. It’s the 2nd time I’ve stayed & I have no reason not to return again next year.
