The property is in need of basic maintenance, footpath bricks are loose or a trip hazard the door frames are rusted. The maps posted around the property need updating. The restaurant needs an insect repellent system and a chef who can cook the menu as it is described. Also, room service is supposed to be room service and not require an extra payment for it to be delivered to the room.

Not a palace but comfortable. Rooms let the hotel down for us, bath leaked, ants on the walls, furniture dated. All very liveable if you’re not fussy but it did let down the hotel. Bed however were clean and comfy. Breakfast and restaurant was good. Pool and surrounds well maintained. Overall we would stay again but bedrooms really could do with some TLC.

The hotel is certainly outdated but the staff, service, facilities and grounds more than make up for it. It's quiet, close to everything. The food is wonderful as is the wine. A family friendly hotel - I love staying here when I'm up in Townsville for my dental check ups :)

A lovely but neglected property. The room had a damp and moldy smell. And it was a bit dated. But the location and gardens of the hotel are amazing. They make up for most anything. We had a lovely afternoon outside for an early dinner, before our early morning departure from the airport nearby.

Our room had a carpet that had not been cleaned in ages, would not want to step on with bare feet. Room is in bad need of a paint. Dirty walls and rusty doors. Worst “hotel” stay. I will be asking for a refund.

Staff (front desk, housekeeping, restaurant), friendly and efficient. However, the property , apart from the gardens and the front desk/restaurant area, i.e. the rooms --is grimy and run-down. And that includes our room, which was grimy, grubby, and very, very tired. Dirty doors, stained carpet and upholstery, dings isn the wall, very old-fashioned bathroom, with shower in bathtub and thus dangerous to get into. No grab-bar; asked for a mat for the tub, which was provided. Ditto only one reading light in the room; a second was also provided. Why should we have had to ask? Should have been there in the first place. Even the hand-held hair dryer was grubby and dirty. Basic I don't mind, except for the price, which in this case was at least $100 more than was warranted. But grubby is another matter. Also -- beware if you don't have a car. No public transportation nearby and $20-$30 to get into Townsville by taxi. Whoever owns this property can be proud of the staff, but embarrassed and ashamed by the state of the rooms -- or at least the one we were in, which I'm guessing would be typical of the rest.

Very spread out, more like a resort. Stairs to most rooms, toilet seat was yellow and very very old, made the whole bathroom seem dated. The whole place needs a full renovation, will definitely be going back to Palmer Street precinct and only use the Mercure as a last resort and I am an ALL Gold member.

The property was quite dated and for the price I was disappointed with the room. A lot of rust and damage from humidity, it just looked tired and had water stains down the walls. As we were on the second floor the verandah looked very worn in some areas. The milk provided in the room was off(curdled). The TV had big white dots on the screen.The outside surrounds and pool were lovely. The staff across the whole facility provided a great service, they were all courteous, helpful and very friendly.. The meals were very nice, though the bar prices a little steep.I had tossed up staying two nights but so glad I did not.

This property was advertised with photos of well appointed bathrooms. However in reality the showe0r was in an old style bath tub, not friendly to mature guests. Our room was on the second floor with only wooden stair access, not made clear in any photos or advertisement. The housekeeping staff were engaging & friendly but the reception staff gave no acknowledgement when guests pass reception desk either entering or departing premises unless directly approached. I felt that good money was paid for substandard accommodation. It was very disappointing.

The room was quiet and provided all amenities; tea, coffee and toiletries. The room was clean and beds comfotable. My daughter and I enjoyed dinner at the Celsius restaurant. Food was fresh and quick to order. Staff were friendly providing great customer service. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet which had a wide variety of cold and hot dishes to choose from. Parking was ample and safe. A close drive into Townsville to see the sights, only about 5-10 minutes. I recommend The Mercure Townsville as a great family friendly hotel.

We enjoyed our stay at the mecure. Very close to Shopping Centre & Food. Our room itself was nice, but very small and squished for 3 people. The bathroom definitely needs a lot of attention. Loved the wildlife at night. Daughter loved the kids pool, was like a warm bath! Buffet breakfast was awesome, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Daughter loved the pancake machine! Dinner was great, just a bit on the slow side.

The staff here tried very hard to provide quality service. The bar/restaurant was pretty good and the pool looked nice. The place was a bit run down though, and the noise from adjacent rooms was a bit much. I probably would not stay here again, but it would probably suit some people well.

Hot water wasnt very hot on lower pressure but when on higher pressure it started flooding the bathroom. Food was hit and miss room service I ordered was excellent yet the wedding I attended the food was cold very dry and not enjoyable. The hanging space wasn't long enough for a suit that had been dry-cleaned. The bed was comfortable and other facilities was perfect for our 2 night stay. I wouldn't recommend it for a wedding venue but a good option for business people or those travelling l.

We used the swimming pool and were the only ones in it! The buffet breakfast had a great selection and was great value for money. The only downside was the the breakfast items, crockery and cutlery were scattered in illogical places and there was no flow to being able to collect what you wanted, particularly on first arrival. The hotel should consider how the breakfast items could be better laid out. And although the Mercure may be French owned, instead of Bon Maman jams alone, they should provide Aussie-made jam, marmalade and most importantly, Vegemite!!
