My husband and I stayed at the resort for 5 days. What a beautiful scenery. The staff was very friendly, the food was great, but a little pricey( beers $12- that’s a little steep!) The pool was very nice. I was disappointed in the hot tubs though. Out of the 3 that were open, 2 had broken jets.

The resort was nice for the off season. The Market Cafe had great food and 2 wonderful servers Hiba and Josie. The grounds need some work. Dead plants and foliage needs trimmed. No flowers in pots. Beware they charge to park in the parking lot $15 plus taxe per day. This is on top of their $75 resort fee.

I only stayed for one night, so this is from a limited experience. I arrived at 5 PM with 3 buddies for one evening at the end of a 'boys trip'. We are all married, all have kids. These trips are looked forward to all year - we try to do one every year. I'm guessing the hotel is suffering from staffing shortages, like a lot of other industries. The first thing we did was go to the pool. The pool bar had closed at like 4 PM, and we were told that we could go to the lobby bar to get drinks, which is not very convenient. Its is probably 3 stairways and 50 steps to get the the lobby, plus quite a bit of walking. It isn't so much the exercise I was trying to avoid, but the 15 minute round trip wasted to get a drink. We went up to the hot tub -- it was closed. No idea why, The pool was badly in need of skimming -- there were dead bugs, stuff that blew in on the wind, and some straws and cups floating around. Cups and plates everywhere from people partying earlier in the day were on almost every poolside table, waiting to be cleaned up. Just a sub par experience for a Marriott. All that being said, we ate in the restaurant later and it was great, the views are great, and the rooms were great, too. SO it all kind of balanced out, but the end of the day at the pool was completely underwhelming.

We have stayed here in the past at this time of year but we’re disappointed that the pool was not heated and couple of hot tubs not working. We travel from Colorado and wish to warm up in Arizona sunshine.

Very nice property, first time we stayed in this area. Evenings were cool so we were looking forward to spending some time in the hot tubs , unfortunately out of 3 only 1 was working. 1 closed off completely, 2nd one jets were not working at all and water temp was warm at best not hot, 3rd one was occupied. This played a big part in making our hotel decision , would’ve like the hotel to tell us that the hot tubs were not working during booking and then we would have chose somewhere else.

The hotel is nice and sits in a beautiful location with picturesque desert/mountain views. What made the trip disappointing was that we had invited our parents to join us at the pool and we’re going to have a pool side dinner only to find out that they closed the food service at 5 pm (a little mind blowing, considering check in is at 4 PM until you get settled in your room and get out to the pool), as well as the pool side bar closed at 6 and did not offer any daiquiris or pins coladas (what you would expect to find at a pool bar). The water slide was closed and the pool needs a good clean, the side tiles were pretty disgustingly filthy. For charging a $15 parking fee plus a resort fee, it’s just disappointing that there was a lack of amenities that are advertised and were not available.

If you pay for the nicer “resort” room you will have a nice stay. If you pay for a basic room you are right next to a very busy freeway and your room will be very loud. We paid an additional $50 to upgrade to a nicer room since we could hear the noise from the freeway in our room and knew we wouldn’t sleep well. The pool area and Restaurants are very nice although the pools aren’t heated so they are useless. We paid $450 for a one night stay and I felt like the price was way too high for what we got. Not sure I would stay here again. There are other nicer hotels nearby for the same price.

The Resort was a bit disappointing for 2 reasons: 1) I was excited to use to jacuzzi one evening, but when I walked up the steps to check it out, the water was quite murky and looked like it had not been cleaned in a while. Same with the pool. 2) Housekeeping was knocking loudly on all hallway doors repeatedly around 8:45am - two hours before checkout. There is NO reason they should be doing this. It is highly disruptive to guests trying to sleep in a little on a Sunday morning. They would knock multiple times on each door, and I could hear them in the hallway. Very unprofessional of management to have the housekeepers waking up guests and rushing them into check out. I will not be staying here again.

Very noisy clientle and there were large roaches on the floor when I first went in the room on the 3rd floor. Stinch of marijuana smell in the hallway and very load A/C in the room. Shower head was corroded with hard water buildup and towels stink/not clean.

Lots of little things were a problem. Room reeked of ozone, presumably from trying to rid it of smoke. Bathroom design offered zero privacy to rest of room. Furniture was dated , stained, and dingy. Ice machines (yes plural) were OOO. Plantation shutters did not stay in closed position. Shower pressure was inconsistent at best. Property is not the easiest to navigate especially because there is very little signage anywhere to point you in the right direction. Security door did not close. Fridge barely worked. Pool was nice but not well maintained as far as picking up used towels and food/drink remains. All in all not a good value for the money. We cut our stay short and left after one night.

All in all, this hotel is several decades past its prime. Almost everything is worn out or grossly outdated. Mildew covers surfaces, dirt layers on dirt, and the chairs look as if millions have sat on them. It’s difficult to overstate just how far behind this property is. Some of the photos may look appealing, but they bear no resemblance to the reality on site. I would strongly recommend you do not stay here.

Our room had 5 dead cockroaches around the bathroom and a living one running across the bedroom floor where we arrived. Not sure if it hadn’t been cleaned in a while or why so many dead cockroaches. Then we were greeted by a mouse as we exited the elevator.

Stairs. Everywhere. The hotel is built into a mountain and the guest rooms are at the bottom. We had to walk around with our property map for the first few hours because there is NO signage to tell you where the pool, restaurant, rooms, or bar is. The hotel staff were not very good with English, the restaurant staff were. There were 3 jacuzzis and each one had tiles more yellow than a rednecks teeth. The pools were FILLED with children, I got hit with a football, a volleyball, and constantly splashed (apparently they had a water slide that wasn’t open). Kids brought their own floaties, pool noodles, and everything else. The pools smelled like urine more than water. There was absolutely not enough chlorine in the water and the pools were screaming to be cleaned louder than the children running up and down the hallways at 12am. For the price I expected so much better, it was supposed to be our anniversary getaway and it ended up being more stressful than anything. FYI the waterfalls are trickles more than antthing. Please watch out for the ants and bees, I was stung twice.

The property is amazing, There is a lot of stairs but the landscape and pool areas are beautiful. The rooms are quiet and spacious but the furniture ( Couch/Chair ) are out dated. The Mattress was lumpy with sags and was not comfortable at all. The shower was great. The food at the bar was good a little pricy and drinks are very pricy.

I stayed at The Buttes Marriott Resort in Tempe for two nights and couldn’t have been more pleased. My corner room was spacious, beautifully updated, and extremely comfortable — the perfect blend of modern style and relaxation. The shower had great water pressure, which was refreshingly strong after long days out. The property itself feels both secluded and safe, offering a peaceful retreat while still being close to everything in Tempe. Beautiful, unique hotel and restaurant. Friendly accommodating staff. The only thing I didn’t like was that the toilet and the shower were together in a smaller area, with a somewhat heavy sliding door. While the rest of the bathroom is wide open from the hallway( no door) also there is a lack of towel racks.

If you pay for the nicer “resort” room you will have a nice stay. If you pay for a basic room you are right next to a very busy freeway and your room will be very loud. We paid an additional $50 to upgrade to a nicer room since we could hear the noise from the freeway in our room and knew we wouldn’t sleep well. The pool area and Restaurants are very nice although the pools aren’t heated so they are useless. We paid $450 for a one night stay and I felt like the price was way too high for what we got. Not sure I would stay here again. There are other nicer hotels nearby for the same price.

The resort is nice. However, I was given the wrong receipt for the restaurant/bar (3 people on the patio). We ordered drinks and appetizers. Talked with Bar Manager - very rude. Left message for Hotel Manager because I was also charged for parking for 2 days and didn't have a car! I have asked for a call back to get my food/drink receipt and to get the parking credited back to my credit card. No one is responding to my request! Horrible customer service.

I have to start off with the young woman who checked us in - great personality, knowledgeable and very sweet. The housekeeping staff was courteous and the employees at the pool were amazing. We also stopped in at the bar in the hotel and had the best bartenders (On the Rocks)There was 2 rooms that we occupied with family and friends and we all said the same thing - what an amazing and beautiful hotel and staff was 10 out of 10. Will for sure be staying again on our next Staycation. Thank you !!

Disappointing Experience – Lacking in Cleanliness, Staffing, and Hospitality I had high hopes for our stay at the Marriott at the Buttes, but unfortunately, it fell short in many areas. The property is in desperate need of an update—what could be a beautiful, high-traffic destination is instead falling behind due to lack of upkeep and attention to detail. The cleanliness of the pool area was disappointing. It clearly needs a thorough deep clean, and the overall landscaping felt neglected. The property could benefit greatly from some added vibrancy—flowers, cacti, or any thoughtful desert landscaping touches to enhance the ambiance. What stood out most to me was the extreme understaffing. I felt genuinely sorry for the one young lady trying to service the entire pool area in the 115-degree Arizona heat. She had no ice vest, fan, or cooling support—something that’s not only inconsiderate, but frankly, a liability for the Marriott brand. On top of that, everything shut down by 4 PM. No poolside drinks after that unless you made the long walk to the main bar, which was also severely understaffed. There were no evening events, entertainment, or even small touches to create a memorable guest experience. Overall, the lack of hospitality and the absence of basic operational standards were frustrating. There is so much potential here, but until major improvements are made in staffing, cleanliness and guest services,I won’t be returning.

The staff were incredibly nice and accommodating! From the moment I rushed in needing to make a filing deadline to the moment I checked out, the service was impeccable. The food options were good, but I would suggest opening the pool bar/restaurant before 11. Went over Memorial Day weekend and it’s the battle of the fittest to get a good spot by the pool so you have to be out early. If cabanas could be added that would be fantastic. Otherwise, we have no complaints. Loved it. Will be back.

The resort has stunning, natural landscaping with incredible waterfalls, rock walls and water features throughout the property. The pools are well designed and thankfully salt water. There is a waterway between the pools which is very nice. Because of the resort's size, it's quite a workout to walk to the restaurants from the south portal entrance. It's a little confusing at first to find where everything is located with the various stairs, gates, bridges and tunnel. Be prepared to do some investigating after arrival. It's not intuitive. Front desk staff are ok, but maybe they might need some additional training in friendly customer service. Bar staff were not as friendly as I am used to in expensive resorts. They could smile more and not be so grumpy. I transferred to the Royal Palms Resort after staying in this resort, because Palm's staff without a doubt go above and beyond and they don't struggle being extra friendly. I felt the Marriott staff seemed new to hospitality and it was all about them and maybe not trained enough in how to make the guest feel special or even like the guest mattered. Staff need to remember, you can have the most beautiful property in Phoenix, but if guests don't feel welcome and like they are "friends" of the resort, it doesn't matter what the property looks like. I have to say, I did notice a female waiter at breakfast greeting return guests very nicely by name and chatting with them, so there are pockets of experience at the resort.

The property is huge and so beautiful! The landscaping is out of this world. Loved the restaurants on site and the views of the city from the restaurants. There were also se several different locations for great views of the city/mountains. Once you check in, a bell hop will take your bags and give you a ride to your room and you can call the front desk for this service any time you want to explore the property. The location was less than 10 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from one of the few IMAX theaters showing Sinners. Wished we had more than one day here…I will def be back!!!

I only stayed for one night, so this is from a limited experience. I arrived at 5 PM with 3 buddies for one evening at the end of a 'boys trip'. We are all married, all have kids. These trips are looked forward to all year - we try to do one every year. I'm guessing the hotel is suffering from staffing shortages, like a lot of other industries. The first thing we did was go to the pool. The pool bar had closed at like 4 PM, and we were told that we could go to the lobby bar to get drinks, which is not very convenient. Its is probably 3 stairways and 50 steps to get the the lobby, plus quite a bit of walking. It isn't so much the exercise I was trying to avoid, but the 15 minute round trip wasted to get a drink. We went up to the hot tub -- it was closed. No idea why, The pool was badly in need of skimming -- there were dead bugs, stuff that blew in on the wind, and some straws and cups floating around. Cups and plates everywhere from people partying earlier in the day were on almost every poolside table, waiting to be cleaned up. Just a sub par experience for a Marriott. All that being said, we ate in the restaurant later and it was great, the views are great, and the rooms were great, too. SO it all kind of balanced out, but the end of the day at the pool was completely underwhelming.

The staff are very friendly, service is great, our meals were delicious, the views cannot be beat, and I had the best massage from Cristina at the spa! Oh, the sundries store even had my brand of makeup removing wipes. This is a two thumbs up!

This hotel was perfect. I missed my flight going to Santa Barbara and had to stay the night at phoenix. I wish I had more time to enjoy the property the food at the hotel restaurant was amazing. If I ever come back to phoenix I’ll definitely stay here again.

The hotel is nice and sits in a beautiful location with picturesque desert/mountain views. What made the trip disappointing was that we had invited our parents to join us at the pool and we’re going to have a pool side dinner only to find out that they closed the food service at 5 pm (a little mind blowing, considering check in is at 4 PM until you get settled in your room and get out to the pool), as well as the pool side bar closed at 6 and did not offer any daiquiris or pins coladas (what you would expect to find at a pool bar). The water slide was closed and the pool needs a good clean, the side tiles were pretty disgustingly filthy. For charging a $15 parking fee plus a resort fee, it’s just disappointing that there was a lack of amenities that are advertised and were not available.

I was never told that I'd be receiving daily resort and service fees. Not to mention that the front desk charges $15 for room service without any warning, meanwhile we are tipping as well. I felt that was sneaky and unprofessional. Guests deserve full transparency on all charges at check-in.
For the price and the fact that there are "resort" fees, I was very disappointed. The bed linen had old stains, there were strands of hair on one of our beds, and the room was ant infested. My wife and I tolerated it since we were in need of a getaway, but this is not the standard you'd expect at this price point.
