Hotel Majestic

Has one of the slowest elevators that I've ever run across, it works just fine, but is very slow. Parking is an issue, but it's in San Francisco, so, "Duh".

Great location, good bar and bartender

Low key, clean, friendly staff. No restaurant but breakfast is served in the am. If you are elderly or disabled, the bathrooms aren't set up for you. Overall, this is a great place in Japantown.

Charming old building with nice fixtures and amenities. Took a while to check in but worth the wait. I love the old school charm.

We really appreciated the historic sense of the building. The butterfly bar was charming. There is no on site restaurant operating every day. The very tall beds are fun if you are young enough to get in and out of them safely. The parking situation is pretty inconvenient, and there is no valet service. I wouldn’t bother going down for the complementary breakfast again. Security is not what I would call tight, at six in the morning I was able to walk straight into the empty lobby through the unlocked front door and onto the elevator. There are lots of fun restaurants at Japan town and lots of great bars on Polk Street

Great history of the Hotel. Over 100 years old and has a great vibe with the decor. Great little bar but closes early. Biggest draw back is the parking. You are fighting locals and other hotels in the area for parking. You wake up knowing you have to move your vehicle or go site seeing early. 8am to 5pm 2 hour parking. Strongly encourage a stay here when visitors Japan Town and the best Authentic Food in the Bay Area. Very short walking distance.

Property location was great for event we attended and the staff were top notch extraordinary. Here are the downsides: One tv remote was missing batteries but staff brought new ones, one tv didn't work but staff got it fixed, the smoke detector was ready to fall off the ceiling, one lamp didn't work because it was missing a turn on screw, bathroom curtain should be longer, we site says room service but we were told there is none and there is no mentor microwave but I say one on lower level by bathrooms and it would have been helpful.

Pros: Staff was friendly, all of the hotel & my room were very clean. Bed was very comfortable & the room had both a portable heater & air conditioning available. The room had a mini-fridge & the hotel has two microwaves available near the lobby if needed. There is a Keurig in the lobby with coffee & tea available 24/7. Breakfast was from 7-10 am with nice options including waffle makers, scrambled eggs (most days), boiled eggs, bagels, muffins, bread, cereal, fruit, yogurt, & juice. There is a bar open in the evenings with snacks available. The hotel has amazing with historic architecture & was decorated beautifully for the season. Many stores and restaurants within walking distance. Easily ordered Uber when I needed it & the Powell Street BART station was about a 25 minute walk to the hotel. It is in a nice location that I felt safe in & the hotel exceeded my expectations. Cons: None FYI: There looked like a handicap accessible entrance sign near the front of the hotel but I did not access it. Otherwise, there are several steps that I needed to lift my luggage up when going through the main entrance into the lobby & there is an elevator. Also, my bed was quite high off the ground, which was not a problem for me as they provide a little step stool in the room. However, that may be challenging for others with balance or other mobility issues so you may need to inquire about lower beds or a handicap accessible room. City is noisy, I used earplugs for sleeping.

All was well until the only elevator broke down. Fortunately it was the last day of our stay so my husband only had to walk down from the 5th floor, and only once. Still, it was difficult for him.

For an historic landmark hotel it was super clean and well preserved. Check in was so friendly, personal and accommodating. Location was great. Bed was comfortable. Room was lovely. Bar experience was fun. Breakfast an added bonus and just right.

Room was very clean and fresh. Continental breakfast each morning was great. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was super friendly. Highly recommend.

There was literally blood or something red stained on the bed canopy cover.

It is an old building and the room in which I stayed smelled quite bad the whole stay. Smelled like old people. It was fairly clean, but the atmosphere was not what I and my girlfriend had expected. We would have much rather preferred to stay in any 3 star hotel for same money. If this had cost 100$ instead of 200$ per night, then it would have been ok experience, but for 200$ a night for three nights this was nowhere close to what we had expected. Location is good and staff is ok people, but the atmosphere and smell in the room almost ruined the whole trip. At first after seeing the hotel and the room we did consider for some time whether to just book a different place. The shower did not have good water pressure and the AC for the room is a portable one connected to the window which ruined the ambiance of the place quite a bit. TVs were so small we did not even bother turning any of them on. Sofa was as basic as it gets. King size bed was good looking and overall nice (apart from the smell that surrounded it). One of the water taps in the bathroom was missing a piece of art. Quite a few small things like that added uo as well. When we arrived, there was one small water bottle in the fridge which looked as if it was just thrown in there as if someone had been in a big hurry.

Such a fun stay at an old SF vibe, but with full cleanliness. Often these older buildings aren’t as fresh, but this one was great. The customer service was equally as impressive.

Hotel has musty smell. Very uncomfortable.

Not so Magestic. Photos are not at all real to life. The room was filthy. Layers of dust/dirt on surfaces. The bathtub backed up with a test run of the water. The mattress cover was too dingy on the sides to brave even sitting in the bed. The staff at checkin was nice, but when I came back down to say I couldn’t stay there, they refused to refund or even confirm that they’d checked me out early when requested in the app.

Room was incredibly dusty and had ANTS. Could not change my room immediately. Refused to help with a refund for nights not stayed.

Beautiful quiet hotel with the most amazing immaculate rooms. Gorgeous holiday decor and lovely staff.

Booked a queen suite and it was everything my wife likes in a room. Classic with updated amenities. Staff was fantastic and it was nice to actually have a hotel bar that was open!

Our room was spotless and well appointed with a super fancy claw foot tub, staff was unfailingly pleasant and helpful, the bar was relaxing and fun with very nicely prepared cocktails and a very welcoming bartender, breakfast was satisfying and convenient, and the hotel overall is just a magical glimpse into the San Francisco of yore. We loved our sunset view. We will absolutely return in the future!

Loud street noise, unappealing and paltry weekend breakfast buffet, unstable WiFi.

Room 207 the Herb Cain suite was great. It has a huge living room! The bed is very comfortable but is quite high off the floor. The actually have a little step stool!

The one complaint is that the portable A/Cs do not work well. The days were humid and even the fan in the bedroom with the A/C on didn’t work enough to cool the room. We were quite warm when sleeping and was uncomfortable.

The historical property has much of the old school charm of earlier San Francisco. The room was nicely decorated with a nice, spacious couch and table, the the Junior Queen Suite. Many restaurants, bars, and museums were in easy walking distance. The 4th floor is allegedly haunted, which can make for interesting considerations. i want to thank the attentive Manager Amit , for being available and hospitable during my stay. Manoj also helped with my booking and getting on the 4th floor. I travel and I rely on reading reviews and I definitely want to recommend the Majestic !

Beautiful Vintage Classic Decor, detailed & well executed. I stayed on the first floor on the side of Gough Street, one of SF mostly driven streets & it was noisy in the the room most of the night. The bed with a beautiful canopy, though comfortable was way higher than i am comfortable with & i am 6 ft tall

Overall really good except the room was too warm. The thermostat was set very low but it didn't seem to cool the room. I couldn't open the windows either.

The room was bigger than most apartments I’ve been in. The hotel felt like something out of the 1930 movie very well kept up definitely will stay here again

A wonderful find. The hotel is beautiful. Our room was quiet, ac worked perfectly, the bed was comfy, and we had a nice view outside our window. We enjoyed the vibe of the hotel. The staff was welcoming/friendly and always available to help. The free breakfast is an added plus.

In an age where AI is taking over and everything is automated by self service you’d expect a hotel offering a personal check in to be good. Not so. When I checked in to The Majestic at 4pm I was allocated a room (top floor) with someone already in it, who had not checked out. Not a great experience for me or the poor girl in the room who hears a guy trying to get in. Nobody seemed to know how that happened. I was offered another (better) room. A ground floor room with a view of the street. I unpacked, put some stuff in the fridge and started to get ready to go out for my 5pm appointment. Turns out the room had all the sounds of the street too. You could hear peoples conversations clearly. I rang reception and asked for a change. The staff were polite and offered me the previous top floor room except I’d have to wait 15 mins for it to be “ready”. I waited. When I asked again I was told to go on up. When I went up the cleaner was still cleaning and said 10 more minutes so I waited. Eventually I get in. I unpack and turn on the shower. The water trickles down. There are hairs (from previous person) in the bath. I’m too tired to complain immediately so I have my shower, get ready and go down to reception. I tell them all this. I asked about the non-existent WiFi, and ask for my drinks that I left in previous temp room to be returned. Nothing happened. When I checked out this morning no-one asked me how my stay was because if hey did, I wouldn’t have written this.

Wow, what a great stay. It’s been a while since I’ve so impressed. The staff, every single one we encountered, was pleasant and helpful and warm. The property was super clean and our king suite was spacious and comfortable The breakfast was delicious. We will most definitely be going back.

I would like a credit to this room. When we arrive we were given key to room 208. To our surprise there was guest all ready staying there. We told them this and with no remorse they gave us keys to room 508. Room 508 had two issues. One was the cold water in the shower was shut off and the TV did not work! I told them about it and they could not fix the problem. I told them to get me another room and the employee said they are sold out with no more rooms! I will not stay there again. I am requesting a refund.

My stay at Hotel Majestic was wonderful! The staff were very friendly and responsive to my needs. The guests were from all over the world. The furnishings and decor throughout the hotel were enchanting - even the elevator! The location is within walking distance of CPMC hospital, Whole Foods, Japantown, local dining establishments, convenience stores, and more. And I got to experience the Japanese Cherry Blossum Festival 3 blocks away! Hotel Majestic was very affordable for everything it had to offer!

I just want to say Maria was so kind and gracious, she made my check in so welcoming and graceful. She was concerned by my early check out but, I had emergency flight to catch and she assured me everything was already taken care of for me. I hope to stay here again very soon!

Very unique building in a great location!

We enjoyed our stay overall at the hotel. The hotel is centrally located in a nice neighborhood within easy walking distance to Japan town, Fillmore St, Hayes St or Pacific Heighs. It’s easy to catch the bus everywhere as well and it was also easy to park the rental car along the streets. Our room (Willie Brown Suite) was large with a four poster bed, a sitting area, two large closets and a great bathroom. The biggest issue we had however was temperature control in the room, always much warmer than the outside.

From check in to check out, I was pleasantly surprised. The room is cute and perfectly located near Japantown. Would definitely stay here again.

Good value hotel in a great neighborhood

Historic hotel near California cable car and Muni line. Quiet and good breakfast

The breakfast didn't have much variety, but the room was clean which was very nice. The initial smell made it feel a bit old, but the place had an undeniable rustic charm. There is unlimited free water (ask staff about it) and the staff were incredibly accomodating and helpful for our stay. It's a great stay for the location, especially since it's only a 10 minute walk to Japantown.

If you want to be in/close to Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco and you want a beautiful, inexpensive hotel, the Hotel Majestic is perfect.

This classic gem of a hotel presents like a family run establishment, all on staff made our visit feel special and welcome. Our bedroom suite was gorgeous with bright open windows throughout, and we slept so well in the comfortable bed. The bar is cozy and fun, And the complimentary breakfast is a can’t miss!

Room was clean and spacious. Although old, it was freshened up with updated amenities. staff was terrific both at the front desk and bar. Unfortunately the breakfast was horrible. Eggs were way overcooked and tasted 3 days old and bagels were stale. Overall it’s a nice place to stay as long as you’re not counting on a good breakfast.

They had a mini fridge with a few waters and you could ask for a few more. Breakfast had pretty much all carbs and no protein. I did enjoy my waffle, fresh orange juice and coffee. I forgot my toothbrush and they gave me a cute toothpaste with brush. The employees were super friendly. Safe area and can walk around. Would stay again.

We loved staying at this charming hotel! The decor was lovely; the front desk staff was exceptional - friendly, helpful, and personable; location was great - we walked everywhere (or took a Lyft or trolly.) Our only complaint is that the pull-out bed was uncomfortable, but once we moved the mattress to the floor, it was better.
