In the Tenderloin district, which does not feel so comfortable and/or safe. Hotel Parking was full so we had to park in a public parking garage over a block away which was super inconvenient when you have a bunch of luggage to carry inside, especially in that kind of environment. Staff was nice but seemed overwhelmed and underpaid, poor guy. Price = quality in SF.

I didn't like when I was asked for parking fee of $50. There is a confusion on Expedia booking when it says parking and breakfast is available. Be clear if it is included or not instead of confusing the customer.

Beautifully updated and modernized while keeping features of its vintage architecture. Much attention to safety in the building and parking area. Nice gymnasium. We enjoyed our stay.

The property itself is good but check in was challenging as there was no good place to park close by. I learnt later that I should had head to their parking even though it was gated, locked and needed key card. They would have buzzed me but there was no way to tell that from outside

We really liked the hotel. It was convenient, comfortable and had a very nice staff. There's a great diner on site. The hotel is very safe. There's lots of security, but not a lot of parking at the hotel itself... it's first come, first served. If you get an assigned parking place, you do have in/out privileges. If you don't get parking at the hotel, there's a good parking structure close by. However, as a woman, I would not have felt safe walking in the area alone. I was fine with my husband along, but we were both relieved when a parking space became available at the hotel. The homeless set up camp in the area at night. Too bad, because it's a really nice place to stay.

This property was conveniently located for my visit. Overall hotel was quiet, however the building across the street began installing scaffolding at 5am. Not the hotel’s fault, but disruptive. I would prefer not to be buzzed in for the parking lot, but I’m sure this is for security reasons.

This hotel was awful. The staff was friendly I’ll give this hotel that but everything else was horrifying. My room was at the end of a long maze of rooms. The building smells old. My view was of crackheads on the street below me shooting up, screaming at each other and defecating out in the open…. To make matters worse my room smelled of something awful. Like mold. Or hot mold. When I called down to the front desks they said they had no other rooms available. Eventually a hotel employee did come up and said it smelled like the fridge had been left open and turned off… I couldn’t get rid of the smell no matter what. I almost left in the middle of the night with the combo of the crackheads below and the terrible smell from the room. The hotel employee suggested I open my window to air out the room but all that did was intensify the noise from the homeless people right below my window. I barely slept. It was awful. That smell. Oh my god. Would never stay here again and it is definitely not a safe area to be walking around at any time of day. Very disappointing.

It was a very clean and beautifully decorated hotel with locked parking and other security features. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is right next to not being great, so plan to Uber if you’re not comfortable walking.

The courtyard was amazing! Got a room upgrade for it being our wedding day, and got concession vouchers. The room was beautiful, clean and very spacious. Bed was super comfy and shower was great size

Beautiful kept up older property in downtown San Francisco near the Sutter hospital on Van Ness. The room was freshly remodeled, small, but cute and very comfortable.

Really beautiful property. We ended up with a room that did not face the outside so it was incredible quiet. I’m a really light sleeper and did not hear a sound. Would definitely stay again!

Everything was perfect other than our room was pretty warm. Not sure of we didnt set the temperature right, but we set it all the way down to 62 and its still warm. We have option to open the window, but it was too loud outside to do so. Other than that, we loved it.

We were pressed for time. The access to CPMC was the main reason to stay at this location of the Courtyard. The hotel was clean, the service was kind, and there was plenty of room for families to stay. We ended up having to go back to the hotel the following day. The staff was really accommodating. In terms of service, Janea and Chiauita went above and beyond. These days, it's uncommon to find customer service with their level of hospitality, kindness, and respect.

The staff was rude, and I didn’t like the discrimination comment made by the Asian night clerk. I recommend any other Marriott besides this one. The General Manager lacks service recovery. As Ambassador of Marriot I definitely didn’t receive the hospitality I’m custom to.

Area looks unsafe for walking around at night. Numerous homeless people living in tents or sleeping in doorways near the hotel. There isn’t a suitable pick up/drop off location for a Taxi or Lyft.

Overall a very good stay in a convenient location. The building is quite old and has been brought up to date. Extremely quiet and you exit to Van Ness Blvd - the bus stop in front of the hotel will take you anywhere you need to go. We went to The Presidio as well as Sausolito with no difficulty. Buses have no grafitti or trash and are a pleasure to use. If you are looking for some good food options, go up Polk Street (Maison Danel and Juniper are less than 10 minutes away). Los Yucateros on Larkin Street for a quick meal. You are also not far from Brenda's French Soul Food and that is a place you MUST go to. Fun fact, the building next door was built in the early 1920s and housed the original Cadillac dealership in SF. Take a moment to enjoy the facade and walk in to the original showroom. A word to the wise - you are in the Tenderloin and there will be a fair number of street people out and about. Keep your cool and don't make eye contact or initiate conversation. We have been to SF many times and never had a problem. Th.e staff in the hotel were gracious and efficient, to a fault

The hotel is very safe and well-located, walking distance to City Hall area, Japan Town, and many great restaurants. The adjacent location of Mel's Diner is a plus (excellent brunch menu). Parking is great and safe, but be aware that there is not enough parking for all guests, so you should arrive early to check-in and secure a parking spot (assuming there are any left).

This is a great place to stay to access the Opera, Ballet, symphony, City Hall and Hayes Valley. It is on the edge of the tenderloin but unlike many of the other good choices in the area you do not actually need to wak through the Tenderloin to get there. It has everything you need, is comfortable and clean and does the job.

The hotel is really nice once you enter the property. The restaurant connected to the hotel Mel’s Kitchen is horrible. Food is disgusting and the staff is not friendly. Even tried a cheeseburger and it was disgusting. The surrounding area is horrible and dirty and feels unsafe.

The hotel is beautiful. The decor is beautiful and they do a great job at making it a reprieve from the street where there’s definitely a housing and mental health crisis in the city. They make very good use of space and it’s comfortable. Staff was great. Parking is limited, but we were able to get a spot. The attached restaurant on site is pretty good. The location of the hotel is amongst beautiful architecture.

Hotel was very unique, staff super friendly. The bed was not good quality, which is the main reason I stay at Marriott hotels, so that was a big bummer. The location was decent, but turn a corner and it was surrounded by homeless literally going to the bathroom on the sidewalk, I had to grab my 6 year old and turn back and walk back to where we came from. The Mel's diner next door was convenient, but the service there was terrible and the food equally as terrible (not a traditional Mel's). I'd say I overpaid considering the condition of the city surrounding the hotel. Also lots of loud sirens all throughout the night because of the emergency room/hospital right across the street.
