Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel

We enjoyed especially the snorkeling, the jacuzzi, and the pool.

Room needs renovation, pool area is too small and the ocean front area is not private and is too crowded. The only thing is good about this hotel is location.

No complaints! Easy to walk everywhere, and having beach access was nice. Would stay here again if beach access was the deciding factor. For this trip, it was. Everything you might need is close by. The only negative was the spa is small, and didn't work the day we arrived, and was lukewarm. I think it got fixed but I didn't try again.

I love the quick access to everything near Kona. Parking was easy. The pool was closed for remodeling during my stay but it was not an issue due to near beach access. There were no issues with cleaning every 2 days.

Would have been nice to know before we checked in that the pool was going to be closed. My husband is an amputee and cannot walk into the ocean. The pool is our only option. If we had known ahead of time we would have rebooked at the other Marriott on the island.

Great location, has its own beach

Hotel is in a great location, and it is a full service hotel with pool, spa, and several restaurants and a bar near the pool. The rooms could use a bit of updating, but it was comfortable. I was there 2 nights, and my room wasn't cleaned, which was disappointing. It wasn't cheap, so I expected a bit more. Front desk was understaffed, and the restaurant only serves $58 brunch on Sundays. I wanted to order off the menu, but I was told that wasn't an option.

Expensive for the 1960s era hotel, closed pool, and hidden fees.

Decent hotel. Private beach good for families with kids. Good location by the city center and close to airport Downsides: exorbitant parking fee of 35$ and destination tax of 22$ which adds up. The hotel luau (island breeze) was quite expensive but Food at island breeze luau was bad.

Fantastic pool and beach access. The Luau was amazing.

Our room was badly in need of a refurbish, and a good clean. The carpet was badly stained and both our bathroom door and another door were damaged (these were fixed for us). The room was rarely vacuumed (we stayed 2 weeks). Most staff were nice, but upkeep is lagging. A disappointment.

Checked in and went up to room and found both beds not made. Lady at front desk apologized and gave me a $100 credit and waived my parking. Housekeeping only came for one day out of the 6 night stay. Another party had the same issue also. Had their amenities sent up afterwards. Lady at front desk working the night shift did not seem like she wanted to be there. Concierge was great, went above and beyond.

the rooms are not cleaned

The rooms are only fully cleaned once every 4 days. You have to request daily chg of towels and trash Collection every day that you want that. The grounds are not maintained well. The hallways grounds have 0 maintenance. It’s super expensive for a hotel that doesn’t get cleaned often esp a Marriott. The beach is overcrowded and the water murky bc of overcrowding.

It’s was ok, the room could have been cleaner. It needed a good scrub.

The property is in a great location, close to restaurants and shopping. It has a great little beach where you can swim in the ocean. However, there was black mold in the bathroom.

Imagine ordering a filet mignon and getting a McDonald’s hamburger this is the best example I can think of for this hotel. The room was dirty (hair on shower, mold in several places in the bathroom) and while they did move us the next room had the same issues. The pool area is nice but lots of flys ( understand that can’t always be helped). Everything is walkable but the hotel itself was very disappointing. The breakfast buffet is good but skip Billfish for lunch, service is lacking. Fish Hopper which is a few minutes walk is amazing.

Housecleaning is every other day (if you’re lucky) rooms are dated and bathrooms are very deteriorated. We needed to ask for toilet paper and towels everyday. Not a great experience.

The hotel is average. The rooms are very dirty, carpet is super old and smells, toilets are dirty from the previous guests that used the room. I talked to Reyna at the front desk and showed her pictures of the dirty toilet. She sent someone to clean but they skipped the toilet again. I emailed the manager as advised by the front desk and he ignored the email . I was disappointed. Marriotts are always clean but not this resort!

Bathroom was awful. Thick dust and other peoples hair on light fixture. I asked front desk twice—2 separate ppl and 2 separate days and was promised both times that it would be taken care of. Never done. Shower was gross. Light switch had evidence of it being used w dirty dripping hands prior to our use. Only one hook 6 feet up on wall for towels. Dirty fridge vents. Large stain on carpet. Room showed signs of hard use and in disrepair. $450 night and unclean. Plus we need legislation to combat unjust destination fees.

Hawaii is expensive enough without having to gouge clients $35 a day to park, really felt that was a slap in the face. Hotel is clean, comfortable, and the pool is nice. Nice central location for the town itself. Area is VERY NOISY in the early am if you are in the east tower. Lots of delivery trucks backing up etc.

Property was convenient to the main Kona strip on the water. Everything was good walkable. Paid for ocean front view and ended up in the east tower looking at the lower roof, parking lot, and boat launch lot- would not have considered it an oceanfront room.

We were on the 2nd floor and the "ocean view" was minimal and most of our view was of the roof of the first floor. Parking cost per day was high and an extra add on we didn't really expect. Food options in the area are ok - but the restaurants in the hotel were lower quality of food and VERY expensive.

Ocean view is not true ocean view …have to walk out to your balcony to see the ocean. This is technically a partial ocean view. There photos are completely misleading. When called front desk to see about switching rooms they said the room id want is ocean front and they’re all booked.

The beach next to hotel property ( public beach) is about the only thing I liked about this hotel. The bathroom is one of the smallest bathrooms i've ever seen in a hotel.The bathroom did not have one single towel rack. i've stayed in motel rooms thta are more practical and convenient than the room we sayed in. The closet had no light. We had to use our phone flaslight to see anything inside closet. Choosing this hotel was a huge dissapointment. I wish I'd stay at a nicer place.

Convenient for old town. Rooms need a makeover. Overpriced.

I felt like it needed some upgrades. I paid for a ocean front view, but had to lean across the balcony to see the water.

Room we stayed there was too much rumbling sound due to the elevator throughout the day

Our "oceanfront" room was a second floor room overlooking an expansive blacktop flat roof and a large parking lot with the ocean view minimal. Needs renovation/updating. Our room had issues with tile chipping off the running board area in bathroom as well as the shower stall doors needing replaced and carpeting separating from the bathroom door jam. It was certainly not worth the over $750/night price. Parking has to be paid separately. The bell boy who was very helpful and kind was the only positive. We did not use the pool or restaurant so unable to comment on those.

Property is in need of updates. Bathroom barn doors are horrible and don’t close. Need black out curtains not wood slats.

The check in was so easy, the front desk attendant was so helpful. Even though we checked in at 11pm she was so cheerful and kind. I think her name was Coya? The room is gorgeous, the bed is so comfortable and we have everything we could need in the room. We love it!

When we checked in Jenny at the front desk was amazing. Super inviting and friendly. Almost everytime we headed to the elevator there was someone around pushing the button and holding elevator for us. The hotel always smelled amazing in the lobby, saw staff cleaning the floors a lot. The pool side service was okay, not the greatest. We did notice one day not one pool side server came to the chairs by the pool for an hour. Even a busser came around and took cups from the previous guest, and we stated we would like to order and he said he would someone, no one did come.They did have lots of tables to deal with. So maybe just understaffed. Lots of guests compared to staff for servers. The next day we went to the beach and ordered food to go, it took a while but once again, lots of people at the dining for food service and just not enough staff. 2 servers for the whole poolside dining tables and then trying to take care of the people in the chairs around the pool . Even the pool attendant for towels was trying to help out and bring water to people. Everyone was friendly that day though. The spa staff were pretty good. Very welcoming and friendly. We did get a late check out pretty easily.

The staff practically went out of their way to be unpleasant and unhelpful. For a 400 dollar a night stay, the valet basically ignored me while I was trying to figure out the parking situation, and the front desk staff said they “don’t know anything about chromecast” (that their TVs purport to be able to cater to). On the positive side, the room was nice, clean and basically… adequate.

Very nice property, centrally located to many attractions. More importantly, bellman/valet Ian went above and beyond to take care of us after a family member had a medical emergency. The staff in general truly demonstrated the Aloha spirit!

Location on the water & in town is perfect. Concierge Adam was excellent & very helpful . Check in was 3pm & room wasn’t ready until 5 pm. Self serve laundry is a plus. Bar service at hotel pool area was SLOW. Overall I would stay again.

My experience with this hotel was very disappointed. I found that the hotel charged restaurant service to my room incorrectly. They charged me the restaurant spending which incurred before I arrived and checked in the hotel. I have informed the hotel manager regarding this error. She agreed to correct this error and remove the charge. However, this didn’t happen. I have distilled the charge but the hotel keeps charging me for the same amount. It has been almost two months but this hasn’t been resolved yet.

The hotel staff all around is rude From front desk with incorrect info upon arrival to pool attendants

Hotel is understaffed and unprepared to service guests. For what you pay to stay here you would expect typical hotel not motel services. Simple service like timely check in service and room cleaning services. We waited 5 hours for our room to be ready, while waiting we sat by the pool and it took an hour to get a waiter to take our food order. Then the next morning we waited for cleaning services to replace towel and they never came. When we questioned the hotel they shared they stopped doing daily services during Covid… Covid had been over for years. Very disappointed and we do not recommend this hotel.

Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel – THEY EMPTY YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS! We stayed in several hotels in Hawaii for three weeks and were very happy with our vacation overall. We chose this hotel for the final days of our trip so that our children could simply enjoy swimming and playing on the sandy beach. We are stayed at this hotel from October 19–23, We paid for our stay with two separate bankcards, mine and my husband’s. When we checked out, we were told everything was fine and received a printed copy of the final bill. In the following days, something suspicious started happening: Courtyard Kona Beach Marriott began charging our cards repeatedly, taking various amounts. On my account alone, 19 separate transactions were attempted — random sums like €549, €541, €248, €836, and others. Together, from our two accounts, we lost several thousand euros before realizing what was happening. After 36 hours and three flights home, we discovered that our accounts had been emptied. We immediately contacted our bank to block the cards. We have been trying to reach Marriott for a week, but they ignore our emails and have not refunded our money. We travel frequently around the world and usually choose high-end, reputable hotels — but this is the first time ever that a supposedly trusted brand like Marriott has stolen from us our card data. ⚠️ If you don’t want to face the same nightmare, do NOT use your bank card at this hotel!

We moved here unexpectedly after our original hotel lost power, and it turned out to be a huge upgrade. The Courtyard was clean, comfortable, and perfectly located — right in the heart of Kailua-Kona. We could walk to everything: the beach, shops, restaurants, and attractions were all just steps away. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was relaxed but well-kept. Even with the last-minute booking, our stay felt seamless and stress-free. I’d choose this hotel again without hesitation.

After coming here from Hilton GV, I finally felt welcomed (6 days after my arrival). The staff are professional yet sunny. They are also helpful. The hotel has some free activities (I'm going to learn hula dancing!). There are also plenty of paid activities that originate at this hotel. (I was aboard the Atlantis for the undersea adventure). The hotel has one of the best locations on Hawai'i's west coast. There are plenty of shops & restaurants within walking distance.

Property was in a perfect location with everything close by! No need for a car, unless you wanted to go to the other side of the island!

Outside property a lot of homeless and mentally unstable people. Lots of trash and garbage .

Good place in the town, with the beach (public but with lounges for hotel guests), pool. Close to city restaurants, shops etc. Beachfront view is spectacular!

Sandy beach, ocean view, and shopping access was awesome! Luau was great! Billfish restaurant had amazing food. Hotel breakfast buffet was ok, food was not hot. Wouldn’t do buffet again. ABC store was convenient and had everything we needed. Overall we were very happy with our stay and will stay again.

Great place for a “home base”. We circled the whole island. It’s downtown and close to restaurants and shopping. They need to finish updating the rooms. The sliding bathroom louvered doors need to go! Only one towel hook! Need more Marriott!!! And the toilet paper holder… don’t get me started- L shaped holder. T.P fell off each and every time you use the bathroom. But, the hotel itself and staff were always wonderful. Onsite bar and restaurant very expensive. $14. Drinks . Dinner $25 and up!

I loved the location of the property, right next to the beach, and able to easily get in the ocean and walk on sand. the cultural center and all its activities and artwork and cultural displays makes this such a beautiful and educational resort. the dining with its wonderful, delicious and varied buffet with gorgeous views was a highlight. the bar area that served hawaiian style drinks and had its own fun menu made for fun times at the pool, jacuzzi or lazily sitting at the bar and talking. the convenience of the coffee spot with its breakfasts and pastries was amazing, as well as the shaved ice to stay cool, all very convenient and excellent. i loved how so many things were within walking distance. the highlight of the stay was the luau right on the premises overlooking the ocean. it was top notch. i am impressed, and thankful and you made my vacation special.

The pool and lagoon were fantastic for the kids. The hotel itself felt outdated, and the service was average. We enjoyed the Luau; the show was excellent, though the included drinks could use improvement. The food was delicious but ran out quickly, and there weren't many options. Parking was convenient if you have a car, and there are several local restaurants nearby.

The hotel looks refurbished and very modern. The glass sliding door kept most noise out. Great Buffett in the mornings and a stones throw to shopping restaurants in Kona town. Great place great price.

Small room and expensive subpar dining within hotel. Just go out to eat. Beach is ok.
