Sonesta ES Suites Chicago Waukegan Gurnee

The room was great, along with the breakfast.But the daily $5 parking fees was a downer.

This was a wonderful stay! The outdoor pool and hot tub are fantastic (minus the somewhat short open hours - maybe expand to 9am to 10pm? :)) Everything else was top notch! Delicious daily breakfast with eggs, potatoes, pancakes, along with the usual offerings. The room was spacious, clean and comfy with a full kitchen - with an ice maker! We stayed here with plans of going into Chicago each day however it really is a bit of a drive/train ride so we ended up spending our second day just in Waukegan enjoying the beach and local bars and still had a blast!

Pool was clean room was nice. Breakfast was wonderful with great selection.Convenient for navy graduation and welcome center and mall.no place is perfect. The hallway carpet could be replaced and stairway cleaned little more. Gives bad impression. Some local pizza places little shady but thats not hotel fault.very very nice staff. Even a viewing area for navy graduation if you were unable to go in person. Would definitely stay again!

Don’t like that the pool and spa were closed. And I don’t know. It was one of the main reasons we chose to stay there

I would definitely stay here again, first off it was close to Great Lakes navy station. Property was overall clean, friendly staff. I loved that they had free coffee and tea at the lobby. Good breakfast options were also available. They only thing I didn’t like was having to pay an additional 5 dollars a day for parking.

Loved the staff!! Friendly and welcoming. Loved the amenities. Enjoyed playing corn hole. I liked having the pool but most of the time it was very rowdy and kids were throwing balls and jumping in so not where I wanted to hang and relax with my family. Would be nice to have a 2 hour adult only time twice a day. The room was decent and had a full fridge, little stovetop,microwave and coffee maker which was perfect. I would recommend staying here :)

Other guests constantly hogged hot tub. On my last day was up early to workout then soak. Found out hotub opens at 10 am not 9-9 like I heard an employee say... I had no time because airport is an hour away had yo leave. Disappointed. Tooms could be vleaner. I worked in housekeeping before! Breakfast was cheap. I stayed 3 days.Honest.

Both our bathrooms had quite a bit of ants and one of our toilets was clogged when we got in our room and when I tried to call the from desk, our phone wouldn’t work so I had to walk all the way to the front desk to see if they could help us out and they handed me a plunger to fix the toilet and then told me to just run the bathtub to get the ants to go away even though they were all over the floor.

My room did have a Cheeto on the floor, and hairs on the pillows. But was clean other than that….did not realize the whole property was non smoking. Did not feel safe having to walk across the street in the dark. Not a lot of street lights

The hallways and stairways of the hotel was filthy my room was dirty hair in the tub in the bathroom floor and in the sink never had housekeeping services I didn’t have a basket in my room I had to take my towels to the lobby every night to get more I had furniture was old couches was stained up real bad pulled out the sofa bed it was and old spring mattress uncomfortable life’s it up and crumbs was underneath and the mattress had a thousand rust stands I had 2 rooms the down stairs room the water in the shower for warm not hot and we found a roach crawling on the face bowl when I asked to staff who was super awesome and nice about the dirty hallways and stained couches she said I’m sry we are in the process of renovating just don’t stay here if ur expecting a really nice place the only food it was close to the base and it live streamed the graduation for my family who had to stay back at the hotel

Helpful staff and clean

I felt it was very clean.

The bathrooms had mold along the edges and the water did not drain properly in one bathtub. The couch and chair were stained, dirty, and worn. The kitchen chairs covered in fake leather were worn and coming off of all of the chairs. I would not stay here again. The carpet in part of the facility was covered in duct tape.

The room, bed and living area were comfortable, but the walls were very dirty. I even found BLOOD (Biohazard)on the walls, which I had to clean with a Lysol wipes. The walls in the restroom were just as bad. The caulking where the floor and shower met has mold. The tiles in this same area are extremely dirty.

Very nice room but needed cleaned better. We found a water bottle under the bed and hair on the clean towels.

The rooms were dusty and dirty. We had to switch room because our mattress was already broken. I had to kill a fews roaches and a house centipede.

Rooms need some updating and cleaning the bathtub had mold the fan was super loud and not working well the hair dyer smoked every time it was used there were no usb chargers had problems with the tv and cards for the door

The rooms were very spacious and fit our needs while we stayed in town for a US Navy graduation. However, I do believe that the rooms furniture need to be updated. We had stains all over the couch with large spills where we sat. There was also a white stain going down the side of one couch. I placed a blanket over the couch. The couch also had a very large rip. Loved that the room had a stove, microwave and a fridge. It was very close to everything that we needed to do while in Chicago.

We got the queen room with a sleeper sofa. Didn't like the room design. No privacy what so ever.

The carpet was worn and stained. The curtains were stained. The furniture was worn and damaged. The fireplace only stays on for 10 minutes before it turns off and has to be turned back on. One of the bathroom fans is as loud as a truck engine.

The room was spacious, the staff was very friendly and the Naval Base was right down the street. Walmart and many restaurants are right around the corner, it was a beautiful stay. Would highly recommend.

Definitely not the best hotel/suite we've stayed in. The staff was kind, patient and excellent. The breakfast is also amazing with a wide variety compared to other places and being pet friendly and having an elevator was convenient for us. The problems start with the room. The chairs were rough and worn down, the sofa was lopsided and one of the shower heads was unable to use its broadest setting. The queen beds were hard and led to us waking up repeatedly every night. The TVs were also wired oddly. We brought game systems to pass the time but instead of being able to plug them directly into the tvs, we needed to plug them into the 3rd party box that controls the cable and apps. This led to multiple audio delays and input lag, making games almost unplayable. If youre the type to go out rather than play games and are not a sensitive sleeper, you could do better, but also definitely do much worse.

The suite was clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Positive feedback- The check in experience was great. Front desk was friendly and quick. The pool and outdoor area was clean and nice. The bball half court was a nice amenity for our teenage boys. The glass rim was shattered but the hoop was still usable. Hotel was clean and the free breakfast is a plus with great options. Negative- Although the 2 bedroom suites are spacious with kitchens and 3 tvs ideal for families, the furniture is run down and old. The rooms can use some serious maintenance and upgrades. The furniture is ripped, stained, missing pieces and falling apart.

I'm a frequent visitor and it's always a pleasure staying at Sonesta ES Suites Chicago Waukegan Gurnee! The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming.

Everything was good. Breakfast options were good. Staff was very polite and helpful for information especially about the Navy Graduation. They also helped us extend our stay another night.

Staff was super helpful. Went for Grandson military graduation all information/directions was provided. Also had the graduation live streamed for family members that were not able to attend.

The room smelled of smoke because the person sleeping in the room below mine was smoking and the smell came through our vent and filled my room. When brought up to the hotel, they did nothing. The smell woke me up at 4 am and I had to switch rooms to a smaller room. The hotel did not compensate me in any way. In fact, they assured me that if I went through the proper channels, that I would be assured a refund. They LIED!!

The customer service was far above and beyond even the best of expectations. The staff literally thought of everything when it comes to local resources, navigating the naval base and activities, and navigating the city. We felt well informed and well prepared for our time there.

The staff was very accommodating & knowledgeable. Christina at the front desk is a doll!

I had a fantastic stay at Sonesta ES Suites Chicago Waukegan Gurnee! The front desk staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming, The housekeeping staff were prompt and efficient. Breakfast buffet was delicious with a wide variety of options. Overall, I had a great stay and would recommend this hotel to others.

Hotel location was good for where our final destination was….but that’s where the good stops. After a long day of traveling and family activities we arrived to the hotel where we were delayed almost an hour at check in due to what I was told were computer issues. We finally get everything squared away and got our room keys and off we went. Got to the room door, slid the key in and turned the handle and were greeted by a locked security latch. We were given a room that was already occupied. Pretty sure we scared the people that were sleeping inside the room. So we trek back down to the lobby (a completely different building) and explain what happens. The desk guy apologized and we were given another room and keys and off we went. We get to the 2nd room and wouldn’t you know it….it was occupied. This time we were yelled at by the occupants who appeared to have been intoxicated. So myself, my wife, 15yo son, 13yo daughter and 3 year old daughter are getting yelled at in the hallway at no fault of ours. Who knows how out of hand things could have gotten if I didn’t apologize and try and explain the situation. So once again we trek back down to the lobby where we were apologized to a 3rd time now. So now the front desk guy said he got us another room and he will go check it out himself first…I agreed as I told him I’m not walking back and forth a 3rd time. All this time I have 3 grumpy kids who were ready for bed 90 minutes prior. Issues with room…but I’m out of characters.

I can't say enough good things about our stay. From the early check in to letting us add an additional day to our stay, they were very accommodating and super friendly.

The staff was very quick to address a noisy family in the room above ours. After several hours of this family sounding like they were moving furniture, when it was midnight and they still weren't respectful..we finally called the front desk and within 10 minutes, not a peep. The breakfast options were excellent also.

Nice staff, safe location and close to highways

It was comfortable with easy access to Great Lakes for our son's bootcamp graduation. Close to restaurants and shopping if needed.

Clean room, and quiet. Front desk staff were exceptional. Great location. It's 10 minutes from the Naval Base and close to multiple restaurants.

I liked it a lot. The reason we chose this specific location was due to the close proximity to the naval station, but all in all it was pretty good my only complaint was that the couche had a few stains and the windows hadn’t been dusted in a while

Felt safe and convenient to naval base. Floors needed a bit more sweep but over all nice property.

Convenient to naval base. Very appreciative that we were able to watch naval training graduation you had set up for we grandparents. Thank you so much. Key cards did not work very well at all. That definitely needs to be fixed. Had a one bedroom suite, which was nice but person sleeping on couch in living room had to come through bedroom to shower or use toilet. Also had no mirror in living room area that that could be used to apply makeup or fix hair.

Very close to the Navy Base , many stores and restaurants . Room very clean 100% recommended 😊

Our overall stay was comfortable and enjoyable, but we did have to deal with a dog or two barking throughout the night. The beds were comfy, entire suite was clean, and the check-in/out process was simple. The breakfast was great with mamy options, and staff replenished items often.

Room was not ready twice and was told to come back both times. Hotel was not full so I am confused why they couldn’t give us a different room when I asked I was told they couldn’t change it in the computer. Room smelled like syrup and one bathroom smelled like urine. Breakfast was the only decent thing but tables weren’t washed between guests

I give Sonesta ES Suites a rating of 9/10. The only thing that made me rate it a 9 & not 10 is the hotel’s breakfast. It’s always the same. I hope in the future they’ll have variety of different options.
