Residence Inn Chicago Southeast/Hammond, IN

Room size is nice, but not worth staying here. They tried to update the hotel, but was done very cheaply with just wallpaper and not much else. At night I had little flying bugs come out and fly to the lights. Couldn't tell where they were coming from but pretty gross. Not sure they ever vacuumed. Only 1 ice machine on 1st floor. Door to pool was broken. Breakfast was nothing special. Won't be back.

Enjoyed our suite which was one of the newly remodeled suites. Everything was new and clean! Pool, fitness center, and basketball court were under construction so unfortunately we couldn’t use them. So may want to call ahead if you want to get in a workout because you won’t be able to do so. Breakfast was good but not out for long!

The pool was freezing. I took my kids there because of the pool but the heater was not working and the pool was freezing. Just got an apology, but it was a disappointment for my kids. Something should have been done.

Upon arrival, I was welcome and then a sign was placed in front of my face explaining how it was new policy that an additional $200 for deposit was required at the time of check-in, that was not included in the hotel policies or hotels.com where they're advertise policies. Then the room was supposed to have a fireplace and it absolutely did not the hotel was supposed to have an indoor pool which it did but was not working so we were allowed to use the hotel across the street swimming pool which was a major inconvenience with five children dead of winter too close to dry too and too cold to walk to never mind not having the ability to shower change or dry off and then return across the street to the hotel where our actual rooms were. Did I mention we had to bring our own towels from one hotel to the other because there were no towels or anything of the sort provided in an attempt to remedy this huge inconvenience and disappointment. There was no discount accommodation or genuine apology for the inconvenience and disappointment!

Very disappointing. First it was the construction going on in the front lobby and surrounding areas, I understand you might need to update your facility from time to time, but once your workers are done they should clean up and not leave debris everywhere, second- and this to me is a huge issue, your front desk person was kissing and making out w a girl as we arrived, we were given card to room 201 but that room was either still occupied or had not been cleaned as there was full garbage can and a blanket on a sofa, upon my return to the front desk I was not given any explanation not to mention received an apology. Next morning breakfast was served in a hallway with no seating area available. Will not be using this hotel ever again

Fridge wasn’t clean. Food still in it. Garbage still in trash and bedroom drawers. No soap. And the dishwasher smelt horrible like it has mildew. Missing a lot of pots and pans. The bbq area was dirty. Still had food and old charcoal in the grills. Couldn’t even cook. The lady serving breakfast had the worst attitude. The front desk was lovely. It was quiet. And I didn’t even get room service after I requested it. But for what I paid it was not clean at all.

Unfortunately the pool was not availableto used at the time

I recently stayed at this hotel and was disappointed with several aspects of my experience. First, the pool was closed, which was not mentioned when booking. The biggest issue, however, was the lack of accessibility. The handicap door system was not working, making it extremely difficult to get in and out of the property with my cane and suitcase. Additionally, despite clearly using a walking cane, I was assigned a room that was the farthest from the front desk. When I asked if it was near the elevator, the front desk agent assured me it was—but that turned out to be untrue. My room was actually three hallways away, making it unnecessarily challenging for someone with mobility issues. The maintenance of the property also needs serious attention. My room had a door missing a screw, the utensil drawer wouldn’t even open, and when I was checking out, the deadbolt wouldn’t retract, leaving the door stuck open. I had to call the front desk to inform them that the room couldn’t be secured and that maintenance needed to address it immediately. Breakfast was very basic with limited variety, nothing impressive. Overall, the hotel has a lot of maintenance and service issues that need to be addressed. The front desk staff should be more attentive to guests’ needs, especially when it comes to accessibility. I travel frequently and stay at many hotels, and unfortunately, this one falls below expectations. I’m giving it an 1.5 out of 5, and that’s being generous.

Shower pressure was low pool was out of order after asking multiple times

Since they are re-doing the amenities, everything was fresh and new.

Was not clean, dirty towels outside the doors that smelled horrible as i checked in.

We arrived around 10 P.M. after a long day of travel. Check-in staff were polite, but the hotel itself was disappointing. The hallways had stained carpets, and our room looked rushed—stains on the walls, crumbs in corners, and even broken toys left behind. The biggest issue was the sofa bed meant for our youngest child. When we opened it, we found multiple stains (some looking like blood), crumbs, and a damp, musty odor. It was completely unusable. When I called the front desk, we were told the hotel was sold out and the only option was to send someone to “clean it.” My child was too upset to use it and had to sleep with us. The next day I requested a room change or at least extra bedding, but was told none were available. Breakfast was also poor quality. Items like cinnamon sticks and sausage patties were frozen in the middle, suggesting they were microwaved. Staff apologized but offered no solutions. While the employees we interacted with were courteous, the lack of cleanliness, poor food quality, and no resolution to serious concerns made for an uncomfortable stay. This property needs much better management. Sadly, we will not be returning.

I have rented here many times including blocks of rooms for different occasions. This was the worst it’s been. The room smelled of cigarettes and mold. The couch was dusty and with hair. There wasn’t all items in the room like normally; I.e. utensils, dishes etc. The rate was $100 higher than normal although booked in advance. I was unaware of the renovation prior to booking as well.

The room was dusty when we arrived. You can clearly tell the spots the cleaning staff doesnt clean. The cleaning staff came into the room event though there was a do not disturb sign on the door...twice. the hotel also incorrectly entered our reservation so they locked our room card on our third day of our stay (we were checking out on the fourth day) and when we told them there was a mistake they tried to pressure us into just buying another night. It took for us to have show them proof of our reservation to look back in the computer and find the mistake the clerk did who checked us in. The fire alarm when off for a good 45 mintues at 9am for whatever reason. The pool was cloudy and looked dirty so we didnt swim. Very dissatisfied and disappointing. They offered us the sign up for thier reward program and to give us some free points but we wont be stay at another residence inn or marriot so was no point.

Cushions were stained, trim, light fixture were falling apart. Air conditioning would not cool. It was not good at all I can’t believe I paid $165 a night for this place

Breakfast food was average-nothing special. Staff was accommodating. The sliding closet doors in the bathroom were derailed upon arrival. The inside of the door to the shower/tub combo was dinged up and top of door frame was soiled. It was less than I expected at a Marriott Property.

Furniture and carpet very stained, I use 2 flat sheets to cover the sectional. First room was dark, window view of outside wall, carpet and furniture stained as well as the walls, old furnitur, ask for a First for room, which was brighter, but same conditions. They are remodeling which is very much needed.

Beautiful room

My boyfriend and I had an excellent stay. The only problem was the fan on the stove was not working, but overall, we enjoyed our room.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable.

I liked this hotel but I got the one bedroom suite. What I don’t like is that you must pass thru the bedroom to get to the bathroom. I purposely booked a room with a bedroom for a little more privacy from my other guest. But they had to keep coming thru the bedroom when I was sleeping.

The room was as expected. My family and I was rent the 2brm suite. This stay was just a little bit more noisy than usual with the rooms near us. All in all we had a good stay besides that.

It’s dated but clean.

The TV was not working. It took 12 hours to get service to fix it.

For some unknown insensible reason they initially gave me a room without heating. It was 61 degrees in the room with a small space heater. I returned to the lobby and told them about it and they said yes they acknowledged that some rooms don’t have working heat. I asked if they had rooms with working heat and they said yes. They finally switched my room to one with heat. Why would they give me a room without heating if they had rooms with working heat?

I thought my room was overpriced. The bed in the bedroom was small.

So far, there is nothing that I don't like about this property. The front desk staff, Louis and Jeremiah have been excellent at making this place very welcoming. Even the janitorial staff is very good and friendly.

Don’t Like Staff Service and Management

My stay at this hotel was great until the front desk decided that they wanted to charge as the hours went by so originally my family started to check in at 2 o’clock on a Saturday. The first person was charged an additional hundred dollars for a security deposit the next person was charged $200 for a security deposit and the last person was charged $250 for a security deposit. I think this was a personal front desk decision not a corporate decision. We all question the fee and was told that this is how it’s done on the weekends even though we all pre-booked pre-reserved our rooms either with the hotel or with a third-party site. We paid the fee because we were coming from out of state, but it was a great inconvenience for some. We plan to call the corporate office on the next day to inquire about this fee that increased by the hour myself I stayed there the weekend prior and was only charged $100 that weekend for a damage fee, which was returned to my card after I checked out when I inquired about the fee change, she stated it must have been a new employee I asked her name and I told her no it was actually you to check me in last weekend you work nights And here is your information. She seem to be surprised and said I’m not sure what happened. I left it alone and went on to enjoy my family time at the hotel. Overall, the hotel was very clean and friendly. The pool was not that warm, but we still splashed around for a little while And then enjoy our stay.

Bad customer service

Person at checkin was not enthusiastic or helpful. She didn’t tell us when breakfast was or that you needed a person to let you in the pool. The hotel is run down and need serious updates. The furniture was old and stained. Fridge only made two cubes an hour. (It seemed)

The staff is excellent. Jeremiah, Jennifer and Louis have been some of the greatest host for a property location. They have made our stay extremely comfortable and enjoyable. There's not much I can say that I don't like about this location. The housekeeping staff is a little selfish with the towels and toiletries. But other than that...this place works very well with out budget and comfort levels.

I booked a 1 week stay and toward the end of my stay I had a bag of my belongings stolen while in a common area. When asked to have the cameras reviewed I was told they don't have camera's and as a single female I no longer felt safe. When checking out I asked the front desk attendant for a total before submitting payment amd she, Tyon refused to give me a total amd was told it will be on the receipt. I will not stay here again.

Nellie at the front desk printed a form for me because the guest printer was out of order. She was so friendly and helpful, we were so grateful! It was the most comfortable stay in our few day long roadtrip.

Very convenient location. Right by the interstate and there's a Cracker Barrel right next to it and a Wendy's about a block away. The visitor center is right by it too.

Great experience each time I book here rather it be for birthday parties or just to get away the staff is always so friendly and helpful. Also this location is near Walmart and Aldi plus Wendy’s is only a short walk away! This is my go to hotel in Hammond.

The receptionist was very rude , swimming pool was dirty , my kids did not like it . Rooms were very spacious but little outdated . It’s right next to the highway , very noisy and hard time sleeping . Breakfast items can be improved..

Location was very convenient. Things were run down and outdated for the price i paid.

The location and room was great. It was very clean. No issues whatsoever. Stayed for 2 nights and will return.

Clean and professional staff. Rooms are clean. All amenities one would expect. East Chicago can feel like an old industrial desert, but this property is nicely tucked in to where it feels very comfortable.

The staff was friendly and the hotel was clean. Breakfast wasn't spectacular but it was still good. The area was safe. There were other hotels in the same spot.i would have gave 5 stars, but There was construction going on on the building so Monday morning they were on the roof hammering at 8am. We are from Houston and my daughter realized she left her beats headphones after we checked out. she checked on her iPhone and they were still there. Called to see if housekeeping turned them in they said no. I know we should have checked good before we left. But a little honesty goes a long way.

The breakfast was just fair, nothing to brag about. The data outage nation wide electronic outage. It resulted in not having a key to the room for the entire 2 day stay. The staff was excellent, especially Latoya, at letting us into our rooms in a timely manner. The all should be commended. Great job!
