I especially liked the free breakfast. Not because it's free but because of the cheerful and highly attentive host. Every employee I've encountered greeted me with smiles. The hotel's location was next to the highway and near the Jet Port and rental car agencies. I used the exercise equipment provided for the hotel guests. It has an indoor pool. I didn't have the time to dip into it. It was great.

Desk clerk frequently not there. Smell in hall of dog p**p. Murky pool. Biggest offence was the "grab and go" brown bag breakfast. I don't even know where to begin with it. Processed prepackaged food in paper bag with no spoon or milk to use for cereal. Just bizarre.

Everything was really nice, the staff were really friendly and helpful, the pool was nice and warm but refreshing too. The only thing that may improve the stay if there was a better breakfast option. It was a brown baf pick up which was not bad, better than nothing. I would definitly stay at this location again.

The property sufficed for the night. The pool was pleasantly warm, if not well lit. The room was nice with decent amenities. I just wasnt a huge fan of the 2 bugs i found in the bathroom. The breakfast was nice with hot options. I would have liked to have been asked about my stay when checking out as i would have mentioned the bugs and my concern regarding the lighting for the pool at night.

My criteria may not be yours but this place has a better than average free breakfast, nice helpful staff desk & breakfast manager girl & Terrance.everything in the room WORKED , micro , fridge kuerig coffeemaker . And A REALLY perfect ( even if you’re a mid Atlantic states senior) warm enough to walk right into temp large heated indoor pool with adjoining changing room & bathroom OPEN from 7a m to 11 pm they get an A + + :). Prompt airport shuttle service, 1 block away from bus stop to Maine mall / Walmart or downtown Portland at monument square area 5 am to 9 pm ish ..senior fare $1.copperfields bar/ rest attached..they do a delic meatballs & spaghetti among other thing & have a Monday trivia, music game night ..it’s not posh but it’s got all the right elements ‘we try harder’ dependable nice , thank you for coming to stay with us in Maine we want you happy & don’t pinch Pennys style …I travel ALOT for pleasure ..I’ve been to the Very Best ..& worst x travel agent…like I said it’s not super fancy smartly decored, relatively inexpensive to an absolute bargain & the pool hrs & temp will keep me going back when I go to to Portland, me.my pix don’t come up u can use others on the web .

The double sink was nice. Wish there were more lounging space. Happy the pool opens early and closes late.

Tired hotel. Everything felt dirty and unloved. Curtain had holes in them. Breakfast room was awful. Sticky floors and uncleaned tables. I couldn’t bring myself to eat the food. On the plus side there was plenty of parking and the restaurant next door was nice.

Great place although the exercise room is just a couple cardio machines and a box fan in the corner. The staff was kind and courteous and was good at making you feel comfortable

It was clean, but don't count on the airport shuttlebus, it only run by hour.

Our room was disappointing. Our shower had hair in the tub when we got there. The toilet ran all night very loud. Also didn’t seem like it was bolted down properly. You could hear every noise from the lobby,outside, and even neighboring rooms. It smelt like moth balls. The pool was the only excitement for our son. It was upsetting that we didn’t feel comfortable letting him swim for to long based of their being way to much chlorine in it. Breakfast was upsetting not a lot of hot options besides ham and eggs. Overall the people that worked there are very friendly! But we will not be staying again.

Staff were ok. Ditey room, bed appeared to be clean. Floor and behind the bed had not been cleaned for a while.

Bathroom was in poor condition - grout missing around tub; smell of urine around toilet with some urine stains along the base; toilet seat was loose floating back and forth to and fro - needs to be bolted tight.

This place was nothing but disgusting! Every surface in the room....floors, furniture, bathroom, duvet, was sticky from forms of food, drinks, and human substance. I took a chance on staying at this place for a better rate than my usual marriott-brand hotels and will NEVER stay at a Howard Johnson again. When I check in, the kid working the desk couldnt get the room key system to work, so he had to let me in with his master-key-card and requested that I stop by the desk in the morning to get it straightened out, which means I couldnt leave the room since I wouldnt be able to get back in. The room had a horrible noise level, with a high-pitched, loud whistling all night long. The furniture in the room was marked up with magic markers with the names of women (draw your own conclusions). When I came back from my meetings yesterday evening, the door to my room was standing open. Fortunately I had my valuables with me while away, but the house-keeping did not manage to close the door when leaving after bringing in fresh towels (they do not make the beds nor clean anything). In their defense, the self-closing door spring was broken, so the door would not close on its own. Overall, I cant give this place less than a zero, or I otherwise would. Never stay here. Ever.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was old and dirty.

First room smelled like cigarette had just been smoked in there and the whole floor was sticky. 2nd room they put us in, the heater smelled burnt when turned on and overall the room felt dirty. We got out quickly because it was disgusting.

The bathroom was outdated and there was peeling wood on the door. We had cockroaches in the bathroom also. Overall, very outdated and needs an upgrade. Musty smell throughout.

Which was the best part of the hotel even if the pool was a hair too cold for my liking. In our rooms there was hair and animal fur in the drawers and around the beds and such. All over it was just grimy looking. And the breakfast room was not available. They did offer grab bags for breakfast with cereal, yogurt, apple juice, an apple, a packet of oatmeal, and a muffin. The shower head was broken and the water never made it to hot. Just warm enough to heat you up but barely.

It was a quick overnight stay. However, the rooms were so dirty. Floors felt sticky when you walked on them. Some of the outlets didn't have outlet covers. we rented two rooms and in both rooms, the vanities were broken and the TV console tables were also broken With a toddler obviously that isn't safe. we didn’t even feel comfortable eating or drinking anything that was provided by the hotel. The only plus side to this stay was that the staff was very friendly and it was convenient to get to downtown Portland.

The stay was fine, but the lobby smelled awful and the room was not clean. The bathtub had grime on the floor and around the drain.

The heater in the room was very loud and every time the fan kicked in it woke me up.

Enjoyed my short stay. However, the lack of insulation in the rooms make sleep difficult.

Hotel, although a value, I’ts dated, dingy, and a bit depressing. However, mattress was comfy, clean enough and no noise at night.

The rooms aren’t totally up to date like the pictures show but the beds were clean and comfy. Felt safe and our kids enjoyed the pool.

It was noisy all night in the hallways the window was rattling all night then I noticed that the window completely opens with no screen nothing. On the 4th floor. That’s the most unsafe thing I ever seen in my life and I want that fixed that’s terrible!!!

My room was a nice size but the bed was very high. I had to nearly roll onto it. Like most properties in this price range, it could use some updates. There was not a plug in near the desk for my laptop.

It was ok for the price. There were several loud drunk patrons and the plumbing was really loud in the walls.

Room was clean and staff was friendly. Doors are thin so you can hear out in the hallway easily

Overall was decent stay, price was good for a 1 day stay. Staff was nice, also had free breakfast and pool/gym. However rooms are very outdated, our Toliet was wobbly/not secured to ground. Not enough outlet to charge near bed area. Doors slam very loud so that was noisy. But overall was clean though outdated.

The hotel was in a great location, clean, lacking a few items such as shelves in the shower to put your soap on, shampoo etc... The doors need to have something put on them to prevent them from slamming shut, metal to metal. My wife and I would control the door from slamming. others weren't so considerate. We were up until the last door slammed shut.

During check in, front desk was rude. That aside when we got to our room I noticed there were not enough towels,and washcloths for my room I had 4 ppl. When I asked housekeeping the gentleman told me that the rooms get three towels and 2 washcloths. Then we found bugs in our room. My daughter told the front desk, they told her they would note my account and see if they could do something, but they didn't. I wouldn't stay here again. Other than the issues we had it is what it is

Terrible service. Past 3 nights, bed never made, didn’t clean the room. Take out trash and replaced towels only. We hung our towels for environmental safety. When I confront the maid manager as we’re checking, she told me that I needed to place “bed makings”. Really? Never heard of such things. We’re world travelers. I also mentioned to the Hotel manager, she’s had not aware of such order. We were hoping, they would do the next day but never done. We gave them 3 chances. Honestly, I’d liked to area. It’s close to everything in Portland.

The interior was dirty. There was a used band aid on the hallway carpet for 3 days! I had to get new room key twice because they stopped working. One time I walked into the lobby and just asked for a room key to room 416 and they gave me keys without asking me for my name or identification. This is not a very secure situation!

Welcoming staff, clean room, efficient airport shuttle service. Nice breakfast choices.

Check in was fine, the clerk was friendly, courteous and helpful. Rooms could use some updating and repairs. Bathroom was cleaned after my first night, but bed was not touched. Not sure they even vacuumed the carpet or cleaned anything else. Hotel was noisy, with kids running and screaming in the halls every night. Parents were no help, as they joined in with the screaming. This was near the open area to the lobby below, so I am sure the front desk could hear what was going on.

Loved the airport shuttle and the park and fly options.

It was conveniently located to the airport. Hotel needs a facelift.

This hotel is in a great location, very close to the airport and downtown Portland. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is just really to dated and had a very odd odor to it that we couldn't get rid of.

Great place, especially for the price. Easy access to interstate. Will be a common stop on our future trips.

For the price I could have stayed at a nicer, newer facility. The price was on par with those. I chose hotel thinking it was closer to airport and it was not. It was disappointing.

Billed as a breakfast but only had bags of mixed stuff and no coffee I was charged 2 room fees for service dogs because I didn’t bring documentation- federal law very clearly says this is illegal I would like that money refunded

Great staff and people. Very friendly and nice. 1) closets. If you are there for business or multiple days. No rods to hang cloths. A few hangers but not near enough put some rods in. Breakfast nice but not consistent one day no muffins. No bagels. A few Slides of bread and 2 English muffins. Hardly anything at all. Eggs stick to container. Need a little uplift for breakfast. But just suggestions. Will continue staying there

*Breakfast was very lack luster. It got the job done, but it felt like they just prepared some old ham and box eggs and just put'em there because they had already promised a free breakfast. The cereals, toasts and spread options were okay. *Pleasantly surprised with the room and with the staff, very friendly and competent. *The pool looked dirty and the area didn't seem very well kept up with. *The diner attached to the hotel had decent food, cannot complain.

The cost of the room was too expensive for what we got. The breakfast was horrible. Felt like we were eating in a broom closet the whole area felt like an afterthought. The facility is old and I know it’s close to Portland but definitely not worth over $400 a night.

Our stay was great, used the Tavern bar and grill inside hotel and it was very good, pizza was great and they offered a 10% discount. Our server was good, but busy. We waited way to long for items including our bill, but waitress was friendly and pleasant. We normally don’t eat the free breakfast, but because food was good the night before we did. Had the best ever gal, Janelle, in there to help morning visitors. She was soooo helpful to many in there and started our day off right largely due to her friendliness and service! Hotel maintenance was much needed. Our toilet made a horrible squeaking sound when flushing, tile work on floor was poorly done and collected dirt etc. paint needed in some walls and our tv wouldn’t work.
