Sonesta Simply Suites Detroit Novi

The suite rooms are in a separate building from the office. The outside door to our building lock wasn't working. An older lady was sitting on the steps at 9:40pm when we went to get more things from our car...wondered if she was homeless? Found a dirty pan in the cupboard. Bed was a little too soft for our liking. The kitchen was nice for cooking breakfast in morning. For $98 a nite, we put up with a few issues.

There wasn't an ice machine. When we asked the receptionist for an ice tray for our room, we never received one.

Run down. Burnt out lights. Exposed wiring.

This place is a hidden gem. Rooms are large and quiet. They are super pet friendly and yet the rooms and lobby don’t smell like they are! The kitchen had nice and newer appliances and even a small oven which is a rarity in any of the kitchenette chains! Jeremy, the assistant manager, is always helping me figure out the best rates and how to get everything I need. He’s kind and a real asset for your hotel. The other manager, Joel, is also super helpful. Imari is a fabulous front end worker and goes above and beyond. Last but certainly not least, the housekeeper, Tiffany, is always checking on me and making sure I have everything I need. She is very attentive. There is on site laundry for guests, a little pantry if you need a quick snack or beverage and a small workout room. Room is heated with a thermostat for a better heat and cool than attached to the unit. It’s always cozy. Water pressure is great, too. I am so pleased that I found this place. You can pay extra to stay somewhere else but this is the best bang for your buck in the area.

If you're traveling on a budget, this is an OK motel, nothing fancy. But the body soap, shampoo and conditioner dispensers were empty (they don't seem to check regularly), the door from the parking lot into the building doesn't lock, creating possible theft and trespassing issues. Neighborhood looks pretty safe an location is very convenient for restaurants and shopping. Furniture is outdated,as was the couch but the beds were clean. The bathroom could use a minor upgrade - caulking was coming off.

Pool is out of service.

The place was filthy with mess on the carpets, dirt on the walls, and stuff smeared on the doors. The baseboards have fallen off the walls and never been replaced or redecorated. There were no services offered during our entire stay. The reception area was cramped and dark, with a tiny "Enter" sign marking it in the parking lot. The security of the place is terrible. There is meant to be a two-door system with key cards required at both doors. However, each day of our stay, there was a block propping open the main door so that anyone could enter the building. This meant the only protection during our stay was the suite door, which clearly hadn't been replaced in a long time and had a very basic lock. The doors are not slow-closing doors, and the walls are thin, which means that you can hear every time a door is closed throughout the day and night. Inside the suite, there was expired food in the cupboards and dirty carpets. Again, the baseboards were missing in the bathroom, and there were hairs in the drains. There was no shampoo or conditioner supplied in the shower, and only 1/2 a roll of toilet paper in the suite. The room description stated it had a queen-size bed, but it was only a little bigger than a single bed. The outlets beside the bed buzzed if anything was plugged in. At night, there were overwhelming smells from very pungent dinners being prepared and music being blasted. The only positives were that the heat worked well and the suite was a good size.

Easily the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, by far. Nobody at the check in counter when I got there and there was 3 guests waiting with me for well over 20 min while the phone rang nonstop and we ended up having to call corporate to get ahold of anyone to help. The first night I had to move rooms due to mold that was found in the shower and on the shower curtain. Day 2 I had to move rooms once again due to cigarette smoke that was coming into my room through the bathroom vents, causing a massive headache for me. Day 3 I found out that although they have ice machines throughout the hotel on random floors, none of them work and they offered ice cube trays instead. The staff was intermittent at the desk and the complimentary breakfast was non existent, just cold coffee in the morning, no stirrers for the coffee and was offered a knife by the staff. I will never stay at these hotels again, not worth the price even if it is slightly cheaper than the surrounding hotels. Absolutely horrendous, both the hotel conditions and the experience of the stay. I recommend just paying the extra to stay at the home wood suites located next to this property or simply picking a nearby hotel.

The hallway had a dirty piece of toilet paper outside our room the entire time we stayed there. There were no working ice machines on the property.

Run down hotel. Family witnessed a drug deal in parking lot while waiting behind to park. Pool is out of service. Key had to be reactivated numerous times. Had to buy own toilet paper, bed sheet and trash bags. Both laundry rooms were out of order. Had to buy baking sheet to cook anything in oven. Hallways stunk. Will never return.

I will say the beds were comfortable and the sheets were soft and clean! However the rest of it was Filthy! I actually scrubbed all the surfaces before my family arrived. My adult children and significant others were coming for a family weekend and Lions game. The smell was awful! I ran to Walmart and purchased cleaning supplies and room fresheners. I had two (two bedroom) suites. There was only one tiny trash can per suite. The bathroom shower was out of conditioner. One bathroom looked like someone was shooting up. Blood splatters on the wall. The staff was very nice! I’m sure they need more help. My family had a great time as the space of the rooms were great! The hotel was booked so asking for a new room was not possible. I prepaid on Expedia so I didn’t ask at the front desk for a discounted rate. We made the best of it. Mostly we were happy to have a place that had the space we were looking for.

I would not stay here again. They are unapologetically filthy. Could not sit on the couch because it had so many stains of something being spilled all over it, there was black mold present in the shower, the coffee pot had old coffee it in, and when I opened the part to put the coffee grinds in, there were old coffee grinds with MOLD all over them. 0/10 I do not recommend this place.

Bed Bugs, broken lights and outlets, kitchen and walls not clean, fold out couch stained, bed mattress very stained

These are new owners which may explain a few things. The hotel carpet was nasty, the elevator carpet was disgusting. I was on floor 2, and only stayed for work nearby for the early shift. The rooms are not cleaned properly at all. I wiped all down and you can tell by the rag I used. The young man who waited on me at lobby was nice. I will never stay here again and you can tell the type of people this place attracts as well due to the lack of good cleaning and maintenance upkeep of this hotel and it’s sad because the location surrounding areas are nice.

hotel is dirty. stained sheets/towels. under the bed/couch of the room doesnt look like its been cleaned in years. roaches seen in the bathroom AND hallway of the 2nd floor. At one point, had asked for fresh towels and was told "we have no clean towels", so went to walmart and bought some

The elevator was not clean it had an old Mildew smell as well as the room the Furniture was old and had Stains in it

The sheets were not cleaned properly we were sleeping in other people’s hair. The elevator is dirty and old. The tv only has a couple channels amd the signal was in and out. Cleanliness not up to par at all. Would not return.

I had never stayed at a Sonesta Suites before and I never will again. It was dirty, an inch of dust on all appliances, the stove door was broken and would not close, no soap in the dispensers, the love seat had a seat cover draped over it, no fitted sheet on the bed so the sheet kept coming off during sleep, and the carpets were so dirty I could not walk bare foot. Do not stay here!

The suite is actually quite adequate and roomie. The problem is the cleanliness with a broken down unusable pullout bed, a dirty carpet and lots of dirt on the walls and windows. The lamp shades and curtains are stained. The general surfaces are clean, but the condition is just so worn down.

It was the right price for a convention i had to attend. Big rooms with kitchen. Very comfortable beds. It was perfect for what i needed. Counters were all clean. I never walk on floors in hotels without slippers or shoes.

Nice stay. BUT, I rented 2 two bedrooms suites and between the two rooms there was only 1 big pot, 1 small skillet, 1 small pot, 3 plates, 4 saucers, 3 bowls, and very little silverware. Walmart is conveniently 0.3 miles away, so we bought a kitchen set with pots, pans, cups, utensils, and silverware. Plus the walls are paper thin.

The toilet in our room was clogged. Maintenance came twice to unclog/snake but it clog immediately. I wish they moved us to a different room so they could have investigated this problem. The suite was the perfect size for my family and the beds were comfortable. I also wish that we were told that housekeeping did not come every day. Because of that, I wish there were more than one small trash can in the room.

I reserved 2 two bedroom suites. In 302 the living room tv was broken and the microwave didn't work in 301 the coffee pot was broken and the let out couches were disgusting

We stayed in a two bedroom suite with a kitchenette. There was very little in the way of dinnerware and glassware and the place was very dated and drab. Not a big deal. But the small sofa ( pullout couch ) was definitely beyond worn. Literally could not sit on it. The armchair was not much better. Staff was professional and friendly and the room was clean

If you need a bed and a shower for a few nights, it's definitely that. For anything beyond that I would recommend looking elsewhere. The employees who checked me in and out were pleasant and polite. No issues there. Housekeeping and maintenance are not on site after check in hours. Our toilet backed up and when we called for assistance we were grumpily told maintenance was gone and "you can come over here and get a plunger, I guess." Having to fix the problem ourselves is fine, but the flippant attitude was unwelcome. I suppose we were lucky it was such a minor issue. The rooms were mostly clean, excepting what looked like a dried blood spatter on our bathroom door. The bathroom itself was relatively clean, but the ceilings were cracked and uneven from the moisture. Kitchen and refrigerator were clean and spacious. The hallways of the building were dim and smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. The walls are thin and we could hear our neighbors talking and one of the nights we heard running and jumping from the room above us. The property is in a quiet area and away from the roads so there was no outside noise. Overall, I would not choose this property again. The location is convenient, but there are a variety of other hotels/extended stay properties in that area.

It is located right behind Walmart with other shops and restaurants nearby. The staff was great and very good. I came in my room the ac was not working they quickly got maintenance in and fix it.

The employees are very considerate, always friendly and accommodating. They are always on top of things. I always see someone picking up outside, around the grounds. Inside as well, always clean and the rooms clean and bed comfy. Nice and quiet area. I felt extremely safe here. Being a solo female, that was important. They are deligent in maintaining a safe and secure place as well.

Vessi (the friendly eastern european woman) At the front desk was amazing! Super friendly, funny, and extremely helpful. She is the main reason the review was so positive. Upon walking into the building I was in, there was an immediate smell that was noticed. A mixture of hard water and canine/feline urine overwhelmed the nostrils. However, upon entering my room, I was delighted to find it clean and tidy with a stove (although the oven was FILTHY), microwave, and good sized fridge. Apart from the woman who abandoned her 4 year old two rooms down from me (who cried and cried and cried until I came out from my room and consoled him, understandably of course), the property was mostly quiet and relaxing. For the price I paid, I was fairly pleased overall.

Unclean room, empty bathroom supplies, no front counter staff. I checked out and then remembered I left my phone charger and cord. No one came to the front counter to help me retrieve it. Would not stay here again.

Awful. Got attitude from the desk clerk and straight up left and went to another hotel locally, even though it cost me $225 for another hotel. Never staying here.

The Management service is above and beyond. They are doing what they can with what they have. My first night was very difficult because I got a room that wasn't properly clean or in proper condition. It had dirty bedsheets, the dishwasher was full of dishes, and the closet had no door. I called the front desk, and they changed the room in less than 10 minutes. The next day, Jeremy, the Manager on shift, interviewed me to apologize and make himself available for any unwanted or unpleasant future events.

Stayed here for a second night due to the fact that we were able to get a 2 bed apartment for a good price and close to the main interstate and shopping area. The second apartment was also a bit dated but there were definitely less people hanging around outside on the second night. The lady in reception was incredibly helpful on both occasions

It’s a room to sleep. That’s it. There was a dirty towel on the floor at the front door of my room and an insect inside the fridge. Interesting things about the kitchen: there’s a package to make coffee on the coffee maker, but there’s no coffee maker. There are pans and plates but no utensils. The toaster was all greasy. The bathroom was fine and the bed was comfy.

Most of the hotel experience was good except room service was non existent throughout my stay. I really like the kitchen and that they provide utensils and plates and a pan to cook on. I recommend this hotel for the price

The property was conveniently located near restaurants, shopping, expressways, and the Suburban Showplace. The efficiency suite we paid for was disappointing. The oven door didn't close completely, rendering it unusable. There was only one small saucepan for cooking. Dishes for eating were 2 glasses, 2 cups, 2 plates, and 2 serving size bowls. There was only one (1) set of silverware so not sufficient for two people staying in the room. Further, there was no dish cloth, dish towel, dish soap, or dishwasher detergent. As a result the only thing usable in the kitchen was the microwave and refrigerator - things that could have been had in a standard hotel room.

The overall standard of the hotel was unacceptably low. Most notably, ongoing construction required us to relocate rooms during our stay, causing significant inconvenience. The situation was uncomfortable enough that we considered checking out early. Furthermore, breakfast service was not provided.Some staff members were courteous, while others were quite unfriendly.

Sonesta's a great choice if you're visiting Metro Detroit. The room was nice, cozy - kinda like a tiny apartment. Bathroom was clean. The kitchen and living room area were clean as well. One thing: the frying pan is the tiny one - so if you plan to cook, keep that in mind. I only had one small pot and one tiny pan during both my stays. BUT the restaurant situation is great. Crumbl Cookie is in the plaza behind us and there's a really great selection of restaurants, including Kura - a revolving sushi spot where robots serve you your food. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Nice, Clean, Friendly staff, Coffee in lobby & in room. Cons: Not even a simple breakfast. You are charged a $150 security deposit (refunded within 3 days.)
