Hillwinds Inn - Blowing Rock

No attendant except at check in. Ice machine was not working. Toilet ran 24/7.

We loved our stay at the Hillwinds Inn. It is conveniently located with restaurants close by and a short walk to downtown Blowing Rock shopping and dining. We stayed in a room with a balcony and it was clean and spacious. The fridge, sink and microwave were perfect for our two day stay. The bathroom was updated. The staff was very professional and helpful and the grounds were wonderful. Included parking was a pleasure. They allowed us to bring our dog and what a delight that was.The whole town is so dog friendly. Even when I left something behind in the room when we checked out, I easily and promptly got it returned to me just 2 days later. We will definitely stay here again and I could not recommend staying here more. It was a perfect short trip to get away from the summer heat of Charlotte!

Very close to restaurants and shopping, yet quiet. It has a community lounge and outdoor covered seating.

Late night check-in was easy. Ground floor rooms so we could park in front of our room. Carpet in our room should be replaced. Mattress was soft. Yet for a late night check-in for 1 night stay it was fine.

When arriving, the office was closed however a staff member saw me walking away and was able to take care of me. Apparently during slow weeks. the Inn will leave a welcome package for guest checking in on the door. That aside, we had the Tarheal suite; the room was exceptionally clean, comfortable and relaxing. Also, the suite included a private balcony for sitting. Walking distance to shopping and restaurants was welcomed. A very pleasant two night stay.

Cute, clean, quiet, comfortable and had everything we needed. Great location, great price. Would totally stay here again. FYI- it is a motel-type inn where the doors open to the outside, but there are cute rocking chairs right outside the door and it’s in downtown Blowing Rock which is quaint and walkable.

Very nice property. A bit old but everything around this area is the same. Very clean though! Restaurants are a walking distance so it's very convenient. Easy to park in front of your room.

Love how little it is. Makes it more private. They use old fashion keys instead of cards and I love that so so much lol! Would definitely recommend to stay here again if only we weren’t moving back to California!

Did not have a balcony.. room was clean and had enough towels. Parking was right at the door of the unit, did not see help except around evening when someone was at the desk to help me with the TV.

Everything was very clean ,nice and quiet. Staff were helpful

Bath floor was dirty. Shower rod sagged and curtain would not stay closed, resulting in lots of water on the floor. One small bar of soap and one small shampoo for two people. Requested more but employee said “he was thru for the day…ask tomorrow”,

Warm, friendly, easy check in. Parked car directly outside of room door. Room was clean & comfortable. Everything in great working order. Good shower with nice fluffy towels.

Great location, room needs a good cleaning and updating. They used to have a nice little happy hour and breakfast in the building that has the lobby. Missed that, such a cute space that is not open to guests now.

The room was not adequately cleaned. There were dirty towels in the bathroom and personal hygiene items under the beds. We stayed 2 nights and on the second morning there was no hot water. The beds were clean and comfortable. A pleasant walk to Main Street of Blowing Rock.

The property is "old" and dated. The sinks in the bathroom do not drain properly. The room was not clean. The lighting is bad. I do not recommend staying at this property.

The location was great. Easy check in and fair price for the night. Our room was very clean but it was a bit dated. The only thing I didn’t like was the air conditioning unit, it was a wall unit that was too close to the bed and noisy. I didn’t sleep well because of it. Otherwise, very nice.

This is one of the old motel-style inns so I will review it as such. The room had plenty of space but as they usually do a lack of light. The bathroom was updated but the beds were probably too soft for most and they creaked. Also there was very little surface space. But it is attractive with a large parking lot. It is the farthest from Main street of the inns but there is food available a short distance up Sunset.

The AC was unable to keep our room cool.

The end is very close to all of the main attractions in town, and there is ample parking. It is right on the creek, which is beautiful. However the property is so outdated. Both beds in the rooms had very visible people dance, so I had to choose which of the two had, the lesser dents.

My husband and I arrived at the village inn for a weekend getaway My husband had a very bad migraine, we arrived two hrs before check in time.I asked if there was a was anyway we could get an early check in because my husband's migraine was terrible and he really needed to lay down. The guy at the desk asked my name and looked at the computer for a minute and then said no the room was not ready. I said ok well what is our room number so we could park by the room and wait. He asked my name again and then this time really looked at the computer and said 'Oh looks like your staying at our sister location down the street. This told me he never looked at his computer for a early check in at all!!!!!! I went to the sister location and again asked if we could get a early check in so my poor husband could lay down and rest. Well the guy working the desk was no better he said flat out NO. There were no cleaning people around and all the rooms looked ready to go Both were Very Unfriendly and VERYVERY RUDE!!!!. I would never book this hotel again .we left 1 day early and was out 180.00. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!

1. Check in - the check in time posted on the website cited 3pm as check in. I arrived at 5:30pm and was informed that my room was not ready. I was not communicated with in advance that there would be a delay in check in and the staff offered no apology or means of making the situation right. We were also told that the room would be ready in 1 hr and that we would receive a call. An hour and fifteen minutes later, we had not received a call and walked back to check as we were anxious that the issue wouldn’t be resolved prior to the office closing at 8pm. We arrived to find the receptionist on her phone and still had to wait a few more minutes to get in to our room. Again, no apologies that we were not allowed in our room until almost 7pm and our dinner plans ruined. 2. No hot water - the next morning, we awoke to no hot water in our room. We tried the sink and the shower and let the tap run for 10 minutes to give ample time to heat up. I called the property to report the issue. After waiting an hour for help, I walked to reception to ask for help but it was closed. No one ever came to fix the issue, we had no hot water for two days & no apology. 3. Unacceptable room condition: pilling bed linens, damaged curtains, dirty towels, broken phone, etc. Also, housekeeping didn’t come for 2 days. 4. I emailed management to share my experience and did not receive a reply for two days. Upon calling, staff refused to refund my money and to allow me to speak to upper management.

Our trip to Blowing Rock was work related. We came in for a one night stay involving two rooms. The greeting at the front desk was warm and welcoming with Sam. We found our rooms to be very clean, cosy and comfortable. We walked to diner and back and appreciated the convienence of this neighborhood hotel Great place to stay when in Blowing Rock

Room was not ready at check in. I had arrived at 3:30. The employee said it should be any minute and he would call me. We left the property ~ came back at 4:45 (and he had no clue who I was). I reminded him that I was expecting a call when my room was ready. His reply was it must have just gotten done. Not okay. No apology. It was cold and we were wandering around the town (had a dog so couldn’t go in to stores or restaurants).

No hot water. Hot water faucet in bathtub broken. Tub didn't drain well. Called emergency number and hotel staff told us to get a screwdriver to tighten the faucet handle. We just happened to have one, but wasn't able to fix it. Emergency on-call staff said there was nothing he could do. He asked if we really needed to take the shower that night. He was going to send someone to fix the faucet at 8 in the morning but no one came. During checkout, the same staff were rude and asked us to leave the lobby after we complained about not being able to take a shower with hot water. Although we had a screwdriver, if we had flown in from out of town, did he expect us to carry a screwdriver in our luggage? Also, it was not our job to fix the room. We paid enough for 1 night and expected the room and service to be better than what we experienced.

A great location about a block away from downtown Blowing Rock. This lovely “vintage” property is well-maintained & landscaped. We enjoyed our stay very much.

We have stayed at Hillwinds twice in recent weeks and really enjoy it. It is a restored motel convenient to Main Street in Blowing Rock. The staff is vey nice and the location is great. This has become our go-to in Blowing Rock.

This was a lovely older property that has been upgraded. It was extremely comfortable and the amenities were more than expected. It’s a block or two from Main Street and there are many eateries and boutique shops there. A nice breakfast spot is across the street. The information given out at check in was generally good but gave the wrong location of the ice machine. The only real downside is that we could not figure out how to get the TV to operate properly. There were two remotes but only one seemed to work and that one you couldn’t control the volume or channel selection. The other one which appeared to be a cable box controller didn’t seem to work at all. Maybe they were just too smart for us. But that was pretty minor in the overall experience.

I loved staying at Hillwinds Inn. The location was perfect for access to downtown shopping and eateries and easy access to highway. I did not expect everything to be so clean as the property has been at this location for quite a number of years, but the room and property were well cared for. When I checked in, the clerk told me that the best place for breakfast was the Hellbender, less than a block down the street. They had homemade biscuit sandwiches that were worth the trip! I stayed for 4 days and had a wonderfully relaxing time.
