The Michelangelo New York

We stayed here for the NYC Half Marathon. The location is basically on the route (7th and 51st), close to subway station #1 at 50th and not a far walk to Times Square or Central Park (the half marathon finish line). The only thing we didn't care for was the resort fee which included a $10 restaurant/bar credit and as most drinks were $17.

A peaceful hotel in a very busy neighbourhood with very spacious rooms - a rare find in such a central location. The main drawbacks were some minor maintenance issues like a smelly shower curtain which was changed after we pointed it out, slow and sometimes erratic WiFi, and a $45 residence fee which came with no real benefits.

Excellent location and the staff (particularly Theodore the doorman and the wait staff in the restaurant) were warm, attentive and professional. Room was very clean and the linens and bed were very comfortable. There were issues, however. The elevators broke twice (in four days) which was unnerving to say the least. I also tried 3 times to call in-room dining one morning but no one answered. On the whole I was left with the impression that good people were trying very hard to keep up but needed more support and some much-needed attention to the facilities themselves.

The lobby bar is a great place to hang out and relax. The BEST espresso martini and morning lattes. The rooms are beautiful and all staff make you feel welcome and appreciated. We love the Michelangelo so much we changed our plans to a different weekend because this hotel was booked up. We never want to stay anywhere else in Manhattan!

The Hotel was FABULOUS, First Class. The Staff was Very Friendly. Room Service GREAT. My Only Issue was when I checked out, I was CHARGED a Residence Fee of $45. per day. I DID NOT expect that. I thought Everything was included Price I prepaid. That was a Big LET DOWN after Such a GREAT Stay.

They charge $48 resort fee without having any amenities and without disclosing this fact during check-in

This is a very nice hotel, conveniently situated close to Central Park, Times Square and Le Bernardin restaurant, which is a few paces over the street. Hotels.com let themselves down by burying the fact of a $50 resort fee in the small print. A resort fee in this hotel is a blatant rip off and merely an excuse to overcharge unsuspecting customers. Leaves a bad taste. Hotels.com should do more to warn customers of this charge.

Compared to the past, disappointing. They are not paying attention to the little touches. No soap in shower dispenser. The lobby restroom in 2nd floor had paper all the over. The gym is very small and had one mat which was in use - so had to use hardwood floor. The toilet paper dispenser in our room was more than an arm’s length away (but did not need to be) creating a toppling risk. Great location and friendly staff. Won’t be returning.

No one mentioned the “Residence Fee” of $45 daily at checkin so we were unaware that it included several daily bottles of water in the mini-bar or discount at the lobby bar. It is supposed to cover the gym, wifi and telephone (charge for a landline?). This is in addition to the endless line item taxes NYC charges for hotel stays. It is ridiculous to charge for a gym that no one uses. If you need to extra revenue, put it in the room rate.

Beautiful hotel in the perfect location. They have valet parking, which is a huge plus. There is an amazing mini bar in the room and room service is available. Room service prices were reasonable. Everyone was friendly and the doorman was amazing!

Within minutes of checking into my room. There was a giant cockroach on the floor. They obviously felt that moving to a different room was reasonable compensation, and did not offer any other type of compensation, except for a rollaway bed at no charge! The hallway smell like curry in the carpet in my room was soaking wet and never dried after my three day stay. Tired and smelly

old classic nyc hotel, our corner room was very clean and comfortable, and super large for nyc standards! the beds were comfortable, linens were quality. separate vanity area from bathroom, walk in closet. good water pressure and handheld shower. the double glazed windows kept it extremely quiet even on 51st and 7th, staff was always pleasant, friendly and professional. an unexpected bargain, very pleased.

The staff from start to finish were wonderful! Friendly, helpful and professional. Our room was spotless! I was impressed with how clean it was. The location was perfect. We were going to see the Rockettes and the hotel was about a 5 minute walk. I highly recommend!

Clean room and bathroom.

This is a nice older hotel in need of refeshment. The lobby is very nice. My room was large and amenities plentiful. the carpets are old and stained, velour furniture is old with stains, and no USB charging available. The linens and towels are great. The front desk was lovely and helpful. I would stay there again.

The staff at the front desk and the doormen we're polite and accommodating. The room was not up too par. There was no fan in the bathroom in our room and the bathroom smelled like pee.

My new-to-me favorite hotel is the Michelangelo in NYC’s Theatre District. Staff are so helpful and friendly, they should be UN Ambassadors instead of NYC ambassadors. Our room was quiet, with blackout curtains for the outside advertisements. The room is very clean, comfortable and perfect for our needs. The concierge gave us his contact information for when we were exploring and needed advice. One day I stopped at the lounge to get a coffee, not knowing breakfast had closed. So Staff immediately made a cappuccino. Everyone, from the doormen to concierge, were proud of working at the Michelangelo and eager for us to feel welcome.

Spacious rooms for NYC, but the hotel feels dated. Front desk service is hit or miss. If you raise a complaint, beware—FL manager Jonny may call security, which felt more like intimidation than help.

It is good location . , pay attention to which room you choose . Most of the rooms don’t have any view . And rooms inside quite old . Our sofa had some holes .

It's al old hotel but the room are very wide and comfortables. The ubication is great.

Beautiful hotel. Very large room. But, it felt like a hotel stuck in the early 2000s. No in room coffee or tea. No internet on the TV. The tv didn't allow you to cast from your phone. These are things I expect from a high quality hotel. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Kudos to Nick, the awesome doorman.

A disappointment!! The hotel from my experience was outdated, rundown, & poorly managed. I reserved a suite, requested a higher floor, & attempted to use the services offered, only for the hotel to fail repeatedly. My room was on the 3rd floor (so much for my request) with chips in the walls, a broken shelf, a torn shade, stained bar top, leaking showerhead, and multiple tears in the cushions of the love seat. So much so the cushions were by necessity placed backwards & upside down. Housekeeping showed up my first morning and my last day very early (0815ish), attempted to open the door w/o knocking, even though there was a do not disturb placed on the knob. when informed I wasn't leaving, the next thing I knew the phone is ringing asking me if I was checked out. This was the 1st morning of a 3 NIGHT stay! The front desk failed to enter the info correctly. The next morning, I gave room service the chance to improve my feeling for the Hotel. I placed the overnight order form out with a set time for delivery. They didn't show! When I called (pushed the direct line button for room service, 2 attempts) to inquire, there was no answer. I inquired at the front desk, and was told they tried to deliver but there was no answer. Complete BS, as we were awake & waiting for the delivery. Funny they couldn't use the phone to call the room that day! Outdated, overpriced, union staffed, crap, uncaring service. I'll never stay here again, & suggest others find a different hotel. FAIL!

Beautiful boutique hotel, excellent location! However, huge lack of communication and staffing put a damper on most of the stay. We arrived early, they stored our bags and promised to text me when room was ready. We never heard from them for hours, so finally went back after check in time and they said oh yes it’s been ready…. No excuse for not following up with the text. Then I asked for a refresh of the room and towels….and left the service tag on the door. Had to follow up to request towels and to remove trash at least 3 times. This type of communication failure happened frequently. Excuses mainly included, “sorry, the person on that shift forgot to follow through!” I think they are trying to run the hotel on a limited staff maybe. The hotel smelled like a cigar bar from long ago….which to me, added a bit to its NYC charm. But, if that smell bothers you, you might want to beware. I would stay here again, but, would hope the staffing, housekeeping, etc other issues would improve.

Was very pleased with the service we received at the Michelangelo. Excellent customer service and great location. Will be on our list of hotels to recommend when visiting New York.

The vast majority of our stay was lovely. We did encounter two unpleasant interactions however. I had requested an early check in due to certain travel arrangements and was told it would not be an issue. When we arrived at the hotel, June, a front desk staff member contacted housekeeping to request our room be turned over as soon as possible. As I stood at the front desk listening to the conversation I was appalled by the way the head of housekeeping spoke to June. She was very nasty to June and very dismissive of our request. Approximately two and one half hours later we finally changed our room from a suite to an executive king. The second unpleasant encounter was with Kendrick at the front desk. On the final night of our stay we arrived at our room only to find that our keys no longer opened our hotel room door. We understand these little glitches can happen so I took the elevator down to the lobby. Kendrick was at the front desk and I was the only other person there. He was writing on a clipboard and without looking up said, "You will have to wait." No excuse such as I will be right with you in a moment or any other customary pleasant exchange. His attitude was extremely rude and his demeanor exuded a terribly unpleasant attitude. As we finished our encounter and I received two new keys there was no "I am sorry for your inconvenience" or a "please have a pleasant evening." As an international traveler for over 40 years I have never encountered such bad behavior.

The service at this hotel was outstanding and ranks among one of the best I've ever stayed at. We told them we were staying there for our anniversary and they surprised us with champagne in the room. They cleaned the room regularly and even turned down our sheets and left chocolates on the pillow. The concierge was very helpful in providing recommendations and helping with ordering flowers. The Doorman greeted us every time and offered to call a can and suggested nearby restaurants. The bellhop was also very helpful in holding our bags for us. The room was clean and well maintained. We had a great time.

If you’re seeking a stylish, upscale hotel experience in New York City, this property may fall short of expectations. The furnishings and carpeting are noticeably dated, which detracts from the overall ambiance. However, its location is truly exceptional—ideal for exploring the city. Service was inconsistent: while a few front desk staff were courteous, others were markedly less welcoming. The bell staff reflected a similar disparity; Teodoro was notably gracious, but several others appeared more motivated by gratuities than genuine hospitality.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Easy to shop and easy to dining and theater and also to Central Park. Concierge was excellent with great suggestions.

The hotel was clean and quiet and within a 3 minute walk to Radio City Music Hall! It was also a quick walk to Times Square! Loved the location!

We loved everything about this hotel…from its charming lobby to the cozy and welcoming bar/restaurant. We chose a room with 2 beds and found it larger than any NY hotel room we had ever encountered. The location is great too. Easy walk to theaters but fortunately out of the craziness of Times Square. I will definitely be returning.

The staff is wonderful! The Italian Restaurant was lovely! I loved the spacious room and the bed was luxurious! I loved the “Old New York” vibe and decor. Fabulous stay!

Very conveniently located 4 blocks from Time square and 8 blocks from Central park. Beautiful rooms, rapid access to transportation, very nice staff, very clean environment, fantastic restaurant, and even some evening in her attainment with a terrific singer and pianist duo. One of our favorite places to stay in New York. We will definitely be back.

Amazing stay! Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was great. Room was clean and cozy. Overall great experience and perfect for a weekend getaway as a couple.

The location is fantastic, the decor is amazing in the communal areas and in particular the rooms are very posh, well equipped, spotlessly clean and the fabrics are incredible, you will have the best sleep your life in the beautiful, comfortable, silky bed. The staff are amazing. The only flaw was the breakfast was a little expensive but for the quality of the facility, it was justified.

This is a nice well located hotel with large comfortable rooms. The food served is a little slow, and seats in the dining area are too low. All in all a good hotel which I wouldn’t hesitate to book.
