Booked a deluxe ocean view King Bed.The room was small but delightful, good for a short stay (with 1 small dresser in the closet, if this is the same in the larger rooms placing your clothes may be a struggle).We were lucky with having a newer high-tech shower head (fantastic on stiff muscles).Only note is the robes provided did not fit my partner at all, and was a snug on me though we are plus size.The view was lovely, right at the front of the hotel with a clear view of the ocean from the front and of Pleasure pier from the side.It's got alot of history, I enjoyed the provided book Everything we had was delicious and decently portioned. Many times in the more expensive fancy places the food portion is small, not here. We tried both the room-service and the restaurant each day and it was great each time. There is a posted dress code, is loosely enforced The pool is a good size and wasn't overly busy throughout our stay but there were some gaps in the tiles and had scummy water in the side furthest from the bar that I tried to avoid.Overall, many open spots, constant check-in's from the bar personnel, lovely drinks & food there as well. They have a Beach Club across the hotel, which meant open seating and mostly clean sand! The Gym had clean equipment, it wasn't busy, good for restless nights. The Spa is packed early so call (phone booking) ahead, prices weren't listed!I didn't get to book anything. For 3rd party booking be prepared for some fees/incidentals ($100+ p/nght)

Not so good. We have stayed at Galvez for 20 years the 2nd week of September for my wife’s birthday. The bar is closed until 5pm. The pool bar is never open. They didn’t offer bar service at the pool. We used to like hanging out at the pool and enjoy the swim up bar with full bar and food service. We won’t be back!

Exceptional place. The views, the food, the drinks, the pool. The only thing I would complain about is the jacuzzi out of service at the pool, and could have gone with a better toilet paper.

Hotel was amazing. Pool area was super nice. Only small issue not enough valet staff at night getting vehicles. Had to wait 30 minutes for car. Bars were spectacular. Staff super friendly.

Great accommodations and location. Parking was not made clear however, and lead to some confusion, and there was some interior construction noise in the late evenings, 10:00-11:00.

The 1919 coffee and desserts is rarely open. Needs extended hours even late night dessert options!!!

We couldn't figure out how the work the fancy shower. 2 calls to Guest Services to ask for help with this were answered but no help ever came. When checking in the staff made a great deal of the facilities available to us but made no mention of the $40 fee. This we did not realize until we got the bill. Most of these facilities we did not even use!!!!

They didnt have the chairs and umbrellas on the beach as promised.

Property is old. Shower pressure was so low to have a new shower. Pool was disgusting. Only 1 elevator worked. Will not recommend and NEVER go back

The resort was very nice, but room kept getting horrible smell at times. Dining choices were limited. And after paying for hotel there was an additional $40 resort fee that was never mentioned in price.

Spotless -Staff- outstanding Excellence stay

The hotel is BEAUTIFUL! Absolutely stunning. My hold up is on cleanliness of the hotel. We had to move rooms our first night because there was a leak in the bathroom ceiling, a purple stain on the wall and the bathroom had clearly not been vacuumed. Our next room was much better, but the bottom of the shower was still not clean. I started to look around other areas of the hotel and I noticed similar issues. For what we paid, I would really expect the facility to be much more taken care of. I would also like to say that the hotel is not overly family friendly for anyone with a toddler. This is clearly no fault of their own. For anyone without small kids, it would be great. The revolving door is tricky for strollers and we wished they had a small store with snacks in it. Overall, we did enjoy our stay. If they could get the cleanliness down, it would be great!

This is definitely the best and nicest hotel on the seawall. It’s gorgeous inside and out, very convenient, close to the beach and other activities. The pool was perfect even though it took a while for the heated feature to kick in. Seems like they could have planned better for spring breakers by preheating the pool. My only real complaint is that the room, especially the shower floor wasn’t as clean as it should be. Housekeeping staff weren’t the kindest either.

Beautiful, clean and accommodating

Room provided first was very old style (shower in bathtub), bathroom was very tiny. Had to change the room. AC was not working properly, could not sleep at night. Room service was not done on one day.

The parking is not onsite. When asking valet for parking options they only had a public parking garage and public parking on the street that was always taken. The first room had a broken bathroom door and toilet seat was broken. They gave us another room and the faucet and toilet seat were loose. The shower has no door so water just falls to the floor making it extremely slippery. I understand due to the hurricane there are repairs needed to the outside but it would be nice to know if someone is on the roof so that when you are changing clothes you wouldn’t be shocked by men walking by your window. This was a beach view and had no idea people would be walking on the roof. Elevator worked the first day but was out the next two days. Rooms are small. Dining and Lobby was beautiful but combined with all the issues, it’s not worth the money, in my opinion.

Our room smelled like mold and the carpet in our room was damp. The espresso/coffee machine was broken in our room and didn’t work. Got hot throughout the night even with the AC set on 69. The halls also smelled like mold on the 4th floor. Was expecting alot more for what we paid to stay there for ONE night.

VALET PARKING HORRIBLE, TRUCK PARKED ON EMPTY LOT, LEFT UNATTENDED WITH KEYS, BAD AC CIRCULATION CAUSING DAMP CLOTHES, MOLDY SMELL IN CLOSET CAUSING CLOTHES TO SMELL. SHOWER GLASS FILTHY.

The hotel is still undergoing renovations, not a big deal. The Monarch, one of the restaurants has a severe fly problem! The sheets in the room smelled horrible and the ice machine on the floor was filthy!

No water pressure on the cold water and for the price the room was way to small. Very disappointed.

Beautiful hotel! Great location. Only 2 table lamps in room! Definitely not enough light! Refrigerator was so small. It held only a couple of sodas!

Mixed Experience – Great Location, But Room Was Disappointing The hotel has a great location with the beach just across the street, and the exterior is cute and photogenic. We enjoyed the bar area, live music, and the on-site restaurants, and the bartender at the pool was really friendly with great drinks. However, the room was disappointing. It was small, had a strange smell, and the air conditioning didn’t work well. We were placed near the elevator, so we heard the elevator button all night, and the walls were very thin — we could hear guests in the hallway and the next room, which made it hard to sleep. The elevators were slow and the rugs inside were dirty. There’s only valet parking, no self-parking option. While the common areas were nice, the quality of the room really took away from the overall experience.

Preservation of the vintage look is the highlight of this property. Staff is very helpful. Dining options are limited but excellent. We had to change rooms due to non functioning of the AC unit. Soap dispenser in the bathroom needed some work everytime you needed soap. Refrigerator was tiny; we could barely fit few chocolate milk boxes. It was a long wait to get our vehicle at the valet each time we went out.

Absolutely beautiful hotel and nice and quiet. Our room was very small, but we weren't in there much so it was fine. My only real complaint is the shower. It was elevated which made it difficult to get in and it was very slippery. I was surprised we made it without a fall. The pool area was small, but had great service. I thought the new addition of beach front chairs and service was a very nice touch. I definitely will return.

We have stayed at the Galvez many times over the years. This time it was the Grand Galvez and part of Marriott. The location is fantastic, the pool area - while crowded in the afternoon - is very pleasant and great place to play with kids. There is now a Beach Club, which provides hotel guests with sun chairs and umbrellas - directly across from the hotel. These are free, we used to have to rent or bring our own. This is all very good and helped make the trip pleasant. As we booked through Orbitz, the management did not extend the Marriott Bonvoy Gold privileges. Not understandable to me. The Monarch restaurant is overpriced and not worth it. We returned under-cooked scallops and unopened mussels in a pasta. The grilled catch of the day felt like leftover from lunch reheated. The hotel is remodeled, but infrastructure has not improved. I had one hot shower, otherwise the water would not get warm. Our mattresses were probably pre-pandemic, with springs so compressed one rolled into the middle. Generally, food service was slow and uneven. While the hotel likes to brand itself as luxury and grand, it definitely is just normal, with some kins in the gears. Because of the location and amenities, we likely will return, but plan to use different dining and breakfast options.

Great stay and love the Hotel. Rooms are very small and so much for “ocean view “ the ocean is not even remotely close , The windows are screwed shut so no fresh air breeze . I expect more for my money .The Hotel has been renovated and has neat history . Honestly it’s overpriced for the small rooms .Restaurant was delicious and Valet was attentive. Not RESORT VIBES

The hotel is beautiful both inside and out. The city view room is well appointed with plenty of free space and a view of the front facade. The fridge is odd with room for only four bottles. Plenty of power and USB outlets. The only negatives were the feather pillows and cubie alarm that keeps the alarm active from the previous guest. Staying up late on vacation and hearing an alarm at 5:55 is not ideal.

The hotel is old so keep that in mind. They are doing their best to update, but rooms are very, very small. The bathroom in a single King is super tiny. The TV system is not up-to-date with no ability to connect a ROKU or gaming system - we ended up buying a TV nearby so we could enjoy the time we spent in the room. Restaurant food was good, but the cafe was closed the entire time. We did use the spa and it was lovely. Pricey but lovely. Overall an average stay and we won't be back.

Spotless -Staff- outstanding Excellence stay

Pool staff seemed inconvenienced , not friendly and on their phones . No beverage service on monday- end of season or umbrella service on beach, we felt there could have been an attempt to accomadate with only a handful of guest left , spent the same amount of $ to stay on a Monday as I did on the experience of full service Saturday. Restaurant and front desk staff were great.

I was there alone for 2 days. Was never able to get into the pool…. Card wouldn’t work and nobody cared. Couldn’t get there thru the hotel cause they were setting up go “tea at high noon”? Like seriously. I paid 700 to be here and I can’t walk through your little tea area to get to the pool? Restaurant literally mad me lose an entire day vomiting and other unpleasant things. They could care less that I was there and it showed. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

**False Advertising, Poor Service, and Uncomfortable Stay** I booked this hotel *specifically* because they advertised a heated pool, which was the main reason for our stay. Upon arrival, we found out the pool was *not* heated at all, making it completely unusable. My kids were extremely disappointed, as this was supposed to be a fun getaway for them. When I brought this issue to the staff, their response was completely dismissive. There was no sense of urgency in fixing the problem, and every time I asked for an update, they made it seem like I was being unreasonable for even asking. Instead of taking accountability, they acted like it wasn’t a big deal—even though this was the *one* reason we chose this hotel. To make matters worse, the valet was an absolute disaster. It was completely unorganized, took forever to get our car, and felt chaotic the entire time. For the price we paid, I expected way better service. As if that wasn’t enough, the beds were incredibly uncomfortable—way too firm, and the pillows were flat and lumpy. None of us slept well, which only made the entire experience even worse. Overall, this stay was a massive disappointment. Between the false advertising, dismissive staff, and uncomfortable accommodations, I would *never* stay here again. If you're considering booking, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Everything was excellent until I tried to get a copy of my bill?? I need a receipt to finish my paperwork & after 7 days and multiple run around I still do not have a copy?? Yes I did ask for a receipt at check out & only got a receipt for valet parking. How hard is this??

I’m a loyal fan and guest at the Galvez mostly due to their customer service. However this last visit it was surprising how poor the service was. Checkin took forever and the woman who checked me in was extremely rude and not helpful. Valet was disorganized this time and I had to flag down pool staff multiple times to pay a tab and order. Not the typical 5-star friendly above-and-beyond service I usually experience.

We stayed here for Galveston Mardi Gras weekend. The hotel interior is amazing after remodel. And our room was great. However, the staff was a disappointment. In general, they seemed understaffed and undertrained. Checkin was a mess and disorganized, the valet and bellhop situation was chaos, and even the waiters were not very kind or attentive. Maybe it was a hectic weekend, but was pretty much across the board and lessened the experience.

Bad check in experiences with clerk she was no at all welcoming or friendly. Then when we got to our room it smelled of mold. They moved us to another room but it was a smaller room. But the process took so long we didn’t say anything. But when we advised them of the smell the clerk did not hesitate so suspect they had knowledge prior. Then we had left our vehicle in front because we were heading to dinner and we weren’t even in the new room before the bellman was knocking on the door demanding that we move our vehicle. From there, it got worse, there was only one elevator working and you couldn’t take the stairs because the exit was on a floor that was under complete construction. Just really bad all around. I have stayed here before and it wasn’t like this but do not plan to stay again. I normally do not review but really wished I had known as this was a special time with my daughter and this really put a damper on our experience.

Great historical hotel. The rest of the Seawall area needs cleaning up. Severally gone down hill, make the owners of all the vacant properties clean them up. Homeless need to be relocated, too much panhandling. Areas around Mexico resorts are cleaner. New city management of the seawall are needed ASAP. Been coming to Galveston for 50 years, now at an all time low!!

We enjoyed the piano bar, the ambience was nice, even though it was right next to the entrance. The music was the right level. It was easy to walk to the beach where they had plenty of loungers set up. Shopping was close by and restaurants were a short walking distance as was the pier.

Perfect location on the beach....especially if you want it a little quieter. The trolley stop is just outside, 5 mins to the Pier and 10 mins walk to the Strand. The hotel is beautiful and so clean and well kept. The bed was to die for...very comfortable and just perfect. We absolutely loved it here and I would definately return.

The Grand Galvez has been our go-to hotel in Galveston since the total redo a few years back. There is nothing like it on the island when it comes to old school beauty. The decor is exquisite in every way. The rooms, although not large, are updated and decorated beautifully. The downstairs bar is like going back in time to the 40’s/50’s. The crowd is obviously “older” than that at the other upscale hotel on the west end of the Seawall. Thats ok since we’re older ! The location is also great since it’s walking distance to Murdoch’s, Miller’s, and the Pleasure Pier and a 5 minute drive to the Strand.

Our room had an ocean view which we really enjoyed. The hotel was beautifully restored and was very comfortable. We enjoyed the easy access to the beach and restaurants.

Like the Christmas decorations, nice, clean hotel, near the Cruise terminal but nothing really stands out, besides the architecture, Our room was small for a double room with ocean view.

Awesome experience! Front desk staff’s excellent and helpful. Told us where to take a trolley to downtown Galveston and where to find Walmart/ Target to buy additional clothes/ hygiene supplies. Our flight to Costa Rica got canceled by United and we were stuck in Houston for 4 days without our luggage’s (airline won’t release them to us). Decided to rent a car and visit Galveston Island instead. A great detour and found Grand Galvez Hotel to be what we needed; beautiful hotel/swimming pool; close to everything including the ocean.

The food for just as amazing as the staff!

This hotel is beautiful! It’s just so pretty when you enter the lobby- everywhere you look. Our room was lovely - it was clean and comfortable. We could walk across the street to the beach and enjoyed the chairs and umbrellas that the hotel offered. It’s close to everything so we could get anywhere in no time. I wasn’t happy with the miniature fridge in our room- we could barely fit a bottle of water and definitely not any leftovers. The coffee counter in the lobby could have used more help. One person isn’t enough to help a long line of people and it closes way too early. We didn’t have time to wait and the restaurant area was roped off so we couldn’t get coffee there either. That was disappointing but overall it’s a great place to stay and I know we’ll go back.

The pool bar did not open until 2:30 in the afternoon, the restaurant did not have tables available for early dinner although they were all empty, I had to order my food to go.

Restaurant food for dinner was very good but it took over 45min for our food to arrive. Only 1 bartender and 1 server at pool. Need at least 2 of each. Lobby bar was wonderful! Elevators need painting. Need a gift shop with t shirts. Great historical photos and cars all around the property.

Front desk and valet staff were very gracious. Room service food, needs to be hotter and improved quality.

Absolutely beautiful and well run property with friendly helpful staff; however, the Monarch restaurant service and food quality is significantly below the quality of the hotel. We stayed there in hopes of not having to leave the hotel for a fully wonderful evening. Restaurant was very disappointing, so we left and drove to another restaurant for dinner.

We had a wonderful time at the grand Valdez! From exquisite dining, outstanding room service, to royal accommodations and the most friendly staff, we had a grand vacation at this historic location.
