Peninsula Island Resort & Spa - Beachfront Property at South Padre Island

I thought my stay would be great since its such a beautiful hotel. However, there were so many rules for the pool and the restaurant that it was very uncomfortable. My main issue here was that I had friends staying at the hotel next door, and they could not come over to the pool at my hotel to enjoy the view and relax with me. I felt as if I had to ask for permission to have them over, which was not good considering the price of the hotel. I will not be returning and will let others know.

this is the 3rd time we stay at this property this year and the hot tub does not work, when asked about this the staff says they are waiting on a part to be delivered to fix the issue. once the beginning of the year then during the summer and now in October. ongoing issue. pool was cold and hot tub was colder!

The only reason I don't give this a 5 all around is because we didn't get to try the food at the restaurant, but based on what I saw it looked good! The service was great, they had staff shuttle us back and forth in golf carts from the parking lot. It is an older property but the inside of the rooms were clean, fresh, and we had cleaning service every day. We wanted a hotel with easy access to the beach and this was it! It was a short 2 min walk down the ramp to the beach. If you're not a fan of the sand, then their large pool is perfect! I picked this hotel specifically because the pool was the largest I had seen out of all hotels in the area and the quick access to the beach. Not to mention it is right at the entrance of South Padre so you don't have to deal with the crazy traffic that forms every weekend evening further into the island. Overall we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend and stay here again.

1-Star Review: Misleading, Poorly Managed & Not Worth Your Money Our experience at this hotel was nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. We booked expecting a comfortable and enjoyable stay, but what we got was far from that. First of all, despite the fact that the hotel was practically empty — maybe 10 rooms out of 80 occupied — we were assigned one of the worst possible rooms. It felt like no thought or care was given to our stay. The room itself was outdated and uncomfortable. Instead of a proper closet, there was just an **open space with no doors, and to make matters worse, the hotel had installed the water heater and furnace right inside that space. It was noisy, unsightly, and totally impractical. What really left us speechless was the fact that the pool and jacuzzi were completely closed due to “cleaning issues” — yet the hotel still charged us a full resort fee. There were no restaurant, no bar, no amenities to justify that fee. How can a hotel call itself a “resort” when none of the resort services are even available? The Wi-Fi barely worked, the front desk staff were indifferent and unhelpful, and to top it all off, the parking situation was terrible. The parking lot is located quite a distance from most rooms, making it very inconvenient to carry your luggage or come and go, especially at night. We chose Pennisula because it was close to the Beach, has a great and big pool, and it was smaller. We had a good view of the ocean. All of those things are great! The negative was it has the slowest elevator ever and parking but they had a golf cart shuttle to take us to out vehicle. The restaurant was good also.

This property is described as a resort and spa. It didn’t have the amenities I think of when I hear the word “resort”. They had a swimming pool which by the way is in the red zone meaning no outside food or drink. If you want a bottle of water they allow you to order from room service and have it delivered to the pool at an inflated cost. The parking area is somewhat of a walk before you get to the front desk. They do allow you to drop off your luggage, drive back to the parking area and the trek back to the front desk area. There was a door separating our unit and several others from another section of the building. Anyone who entered or exited would slam the door which was very heavy thus loud. The door slam was due to air pressure I know but it still will wake you. I was not impressed and resented having to pay a $20 resort fee.

Parking was inconvenient, there is a golf cart to help shuttle but only during certain times. Plan to do some walking after dark. Property a bit run down for the price. Only great thing was the pool.

The restroom was nasty rust everywhere. The AC kept reverting back to 73 even after I lowered it more than once. It was hot in the room because of this. Ice machine made no ice. Beds were sandy and doubles which is extremely small. Overall gross we chose to stay elsewhere for our second night.

The room had bedbugs. I realized this the last night that I was staying there as I was getting bit and was very itchy, and the front desk said sorry, it happens. There is no manager on duty. There is on site to offer me any kind of money back or a different room, but like I said, it was my last night there. I asked for bags for my clothes; they would not give me any help.

Always a clean, spacious, and relaxing facility

Gave a star because the location was convenient. The elevator smelled like cat pee.The rooms were a mildewey smell, sheets smelled the same way. Had to use bodyspray on the sheets when we slept. Connecting door to the other room did not lock and the other doors lock was missing. Not sure if they had it covered. We moved a table in front of the door so we could feel comfortable staying there.

Paid 320 for one night, the room had yellow stains on the wall trimming. I was expecting it to be nicer for the price.

No food, no breakfast, very dirty with mold.stayed 2 nights then got another hotel. I think homeless people live there. The pool looked ok.

This property was nice; however, parking is not conducive to older or disabled people, and the “face lift”? was such poor workmanship. It just took away from the overall impression of the property. Although the customer service was excellent, the pool cleanliness made getting in the pool impossible. I will not book at this property again.

Phone dosent work, ants on the room bathroom , they said they could fumigate but we would smell it all night so they changed me rooms so it was inconvenient.

Was charged twice for rebooking in less than 24 hours and management refused to work with me. Had no working AC for first 24 hours, poor housekeeping and a bad leak in kitchen. This was in just 3 days.

There was no microwaves in the room. The front desks refused to help us connect the WIFI to the television. Overpriced prices for an old hotel.

It was not easy to find the resort. The lights above the sink in the room fell as i closed the door. The disinfecting dispenser was broken in the elevator. Overall the place needs an upgrade.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Pennisula, our room was clean & spacious, lovely view.

Room 405 D has a water heater in a closet that sounds exactly like a door opening and it occurs consistently throughout the night. Just letting you know, if you stay in that room, it’s not someone breaking in. You’re okay. Go back to bed.

The A/C was not working. Also no Wi-Fi code provided so TV was not able to be used. Bathtub was so small. They charge a $100 breakage fee thats because almost everything looks like they are in their last. Definetly wont be going again.

The staff was great and the hotel was nice. We stayed in a new room with a glass door and a blind. Felt weird and uncomfortable. The bed was very firm. Woke up with back pain.

Great room. Was supposed to have wifi, it did not, even after calling maintenance, no wifi for TV or my devices. Everything else was great. Hopefully wifi world or is upgraded if I come back.

Staff was unable to contact me back after repeated attempts to reach someone due to an issue with our booking. Would not recommend as of right now.

The housekeeping ladies fought that they can’t switch them out? Also a 150 deposit that was required to check in as well as a 20 dollar per day fee ? Workers are all rude.

This is by far the WORST experience I've EVER had on the island. No A/C, horrible parking, low kitchen utensils, poor customer service, poor response rate. The Manager said he would call shortly, but 30 mins later, said he couldn't call. Offered a free umbrella for inconvenience next day. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THE PENINSULA TO ANYONE. DO. NOT. STAY. HERE.

It was nice. It reminded me of being in a resort in Mexico. Views were nice, staff was very helpful, and beach access was the best.

Saw several cockroaches in my hotel room, no soap was provided & limited wifi access, need to walk at a distance or take public transport to get to restaurants and attractions.

Breakfast is not included anymore. Location and Pool size are Great. Restaurant has improved but need more staff on peak house Good Experience Great option it you have kids

This hotel was right on the beach!! Tons of things to do near the hotel from dolphin watching, the water park. Renting golf carts. And many more things.

We got a last minute room for 2 nights. The room was a good size and the bed was comfy, there was plenty of parking space. The pool area looked lovely and there is a nice access walk to the beach. Everything was fine

Loved their mix drinks in the pool water was warm walked to the beach from the hotel really delicious breakfast room was really clean i could see the ocean and the bridge really nice view day and night, do recommend to stay in 6th floor.

The property needed some cleaning and painting. Looked old and some what run down. Ice machine was broken and they didn't offer any. Restraunt was not open for dinner most of the week. Pool area was clean. The walk from the parking lot was quiet a ways from the building.

Do not buy the breakfast! It doesn’t exist, and even when you ask about the employees seem clueless. Paid an extra $80 and not even so much as coffee! WiFi doesn’t work, and they make you set the air conditioner to 74• so it doesn’t stop working but it never actually gets to 74• do not stay here! Not to mention the long walk in the rain from the parking lot in barely lit conditions, again avoid! I’ve stayed at way better way cheaper hotels on the island!

Staying at this hotel was a great choice. It’s on the shore, the pool is amazing, food is delicious and from the moment you set foot in the front desk they greet you and make you feel at home!

Overpriced, paid for continental breakfast that only included 2 pancakes cereal and toast. Very disappointed.
