The Ocean Key Virginia Beach Resort

We arrived on Thurs wish we could have gotten a balcony unit but the room was perfect for the 3 of us to each have a room, bed and tv to ourselves. Our only complaints was adult pool time in the morning wasn't available at designated time on Friday or Sat.the 2nd complaint was that we were unable to park both cars on property.

This is the second time this year I have stayed at this location and they only had 1 elevator working. That is my only complaint. I will stay here again.

If your looking for a place crash and you plan on spending all of your time either in the beach or out doing stuff, this place is fine. They don't offer regular house keeping and if you want to new towels, you have to exchange them yourself on the 4th floor. I didn't have any issues with my room, but I overheard others complaining about room and maintenance issues. The elevators aren't programmed correctly so they will stop to pick up people who want to go down but the elevator continues to go up and vice versa. The parking garage is tight with giant pillars in the middle of the driving lane. If you have a large pickup or SUV, you might struggle to find parking. The beach is a short walk across the street and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

I did not enjoy pool like we wanted it was closed for 2 days out of the stay we was there so kids did t get to use it until a day for we was leaving

The pool is in the lobby of the building! Whoever markets Ocean Key's space did a good job deceiving people of the "great" pool in the picture. The lobby furniture and room furniture need to be updated. There seems to be mold in the bathroom (at least in our room). The parking garage is NOT amenable for large vehicles; there are poles in the way! The location was good to the beach and restaurants. The pool was closed during the adult swimming time due to painting and cleaning the pool- pool maintenance- could this not have been done during the overnight hours since people are there for vacation. The jets in the hot tub were not working. I didn't like having to get a change of linen (towels, sheets, etc.) for our room, but that may be a way of providing a service with limited employees.

Room was nice,clean and had everything we needed. Enjoyed pool and hot tub and activity room. The only two things that I would say I was dissatisfied with is the parking was limited and very tight spots. Also there was only one elevator working.

Staff was friendly and good location close to beach and across from Waterman's Grill which has good food and drinks. It's an older building with some upgrades. The rooms are small. The carpet in the hallways smell bad which carries into the room. The jets in the hot tub didn't work. Had 'adult hours' for the pool which was not communicated and was inconvenient since we have kids. Elevator was slow and not working at times so had to take stairs. In the end, average stay but wouldn't recommend.

The one positive about the hotel was the pool was warm and the hot tub worked. Negative and the big one is they only had one elevator and it took forever. I mean forever! Other thing is you heard lots of noise coming from within and outside the hotel.

Excellent customer check-in. People seem to genuinely enjoy working here - and for a holiday weekend that's saying something! Parking was easy. Even though our room wasn't ready when we arrived (early - like 12 noon - I get it), the front office lady checked us in, welcomed us, gave us our parking pass, explained that we could access all the amenities (exercise room, pool, etc.). I like that the pool has designated adult swim times (2 hours in morning; 2 hours in evening), so it's not overrun with unsupervised kids all day. The jacuzzi/hot tub area was a little small (ie, six adults max - and that was elbow-to-elbow). Location is not directly on Boardwalk, but we knew that beforehand. We Website provided accurate information. We had an ocean view balcony and were able to see the beach, boardwalk, Waterman's seafood restaurant. Even saw the sunrise from the balcony. Room was very clean and well furnished. Lots of shelves and cubbies and even a rack for shoes in the closet. We didn't use the kitchenette, but it was well-stocked and included dish soap, sponge, dishwashing pod. There is a linen exchange service on the 4th floor during business hours if you need to swap out towels. They also advertised a complimentary laundry service on the 4th floor, but we did not use it. Ice machine was full loaded, though a bit far from our room. The Roma Pizza restaurant in the lobby was great - good food, wine, beer, friendly service, plenty of clean seating indoors and out.

I was unsatisfied with my room when I had checked in I noticed when I first got into it the Tv was on in room I was sleeping when I saw picture on screen was all messed up connection was awful then I noticed roaches where crawling on counter tops in kitchen area and after that my stay was completely ruined be honest not comfortable in any means

The tv in our living room never worked, the maintenance team did try to fix it a couple times but didn’t succeed. The floors in our suite were sticky & dirty when we arrived. The pool area was less than clean & the bathrooms in the pool area were nasty. The air in our room didn’t work well, by the end of the day it would be 75 in there after it being set to 69 all day. Overall an affordable place to stay and very close to the beach. Needs updates for sure & could use some work on cleanliness.

The pictures that they posted on the website, Expedia look nothing like the actual property. It is rundown and pretty dirty. There’s no housekeeping I had to clean my own room and change my own sheets.

Bad customer service, got to the hotel sheets were dirty"looks like Bodily fluids discharge", floor was not cleaned either, on the balcony, there was opened alcohol bottles, soap dispenser in the bathroom were empty, looks like they never cleaned the room although we checked in late, i was so disgusted with whole stay, they wouldn't not change the room, customer service were rude and took forever to at least change the bed sheet and clean the floor

Dirty rooms smells bad and had dirty towns in bathrooms and dirty stained sheets

Overall, my stay was good. However, the floors were very dirty and the humid air from the beach filled the room, which made the floors sticky and caused the dirt to stick to my feet. There were some stains on the sheets. Be prepared to hear traffic and garbage trucks beeping late at night and early morning, as well as motorcycles racing at all hours on Friday and Saturday. The staff were friendly and helpful. The gym was clean and nice to use.

Parking garage is small if you have a larger vehicle it’s difficult to fit into the spaces. The hotel was nice but dated. The beds are hard and not comfortable, same with the pillows.

The hotel and especially my room was very clean and well maintained. It is an older building and some details make it apparent, but cute ( short round toilet, built in cabinets). The king bed provided a good sleep but the sofa bed was noisy. The kitchen had everything we needed, plus more. We had an oceanfront room and the street was very noisy but we should have expected it. Definitely worth price.

I love that it was close to the board walk that was excellent. The condo was much smaller then advertised

Check in was very easy and staff super friendly and helpful. Location was great. Rooms are a bit dated but clean and bed was comfortable. Loved having a kitchen area in the little suite.

my family and I enjoyed our stay. We only experienced a slight issue with the elevator taking forever, but that was to be expected due to the high volume in summer guests. The other issue was our balcony door did not close all the way and had a crack in it, we were on the 6th floor, so didn't press the issue. Room was clean and comfortable. Front desk staff was amazing and friendly. The pizza shop below us was amazing and had great wings! Walk to beach was convenient and easy. 8/10

View was great, balcony was awesome. The street noise is load on balcony side. Hallways could be vacuumed. But overall a good experience.

The room had everything we needed. It was very dated but had plenty of room.

Room setup was great, ocean view was amazing. On site restaurant had good food and ice cream. Pots, pans, and plates provided. Close to Rudey Inlet and several other sites. Balcony door seal let wind through (not a big deal), wall had a gash in it, "living room vent" had mold, staff wasn't helpful when we asked for a 2nd room and their website wouldn't let us book a 2nd room at 11pm.

Staff was nice but would be nice to get new towels and suppose everyday and not have to get it yourself.

Avoid this place at all costs. It’s not worth it to stay here. Do yourself a favor and choose another place! The property is dark and grungy. The room was awkward, dirty and everything was broken or missing it seemed. On the particular day I was going to stay, the AC was down and it was ridiculously hot. The front desk personnel didn’t seem to care or want to share except when I probed them. One of them had a smirk when I mentioned it and started asking them questions. Honesty would be nice, not just filling dirty-broken rooms. Traveler beware and don’t stay here!!!

I have stayed at this hotel before and I do not recall it being so dirty. My sheets and floor were clean. I asked for housekeeping and I was told they you charge me to clean the room. This hotel needs to be renovated. It is so tired and broken in the rooms. We were first put in a room that faced the back and when I called to ask about my reservation being an ocean front room the person at the desk made the switch. The people at this hotel were not friendly. Asking for clean sheets and towels was a real challenge for them. I will not stay at this hotel ever again.

We had such an amazing time staying here! Amazing and very helpful staff! Will definitely be staying here again :)

The heater was not working, maintenance came super quick, fixed it...came back to check it was working..such a nice guy!!!

The front desk even the worst part

Great room, friendly staff... Only thing I really disliked was the "nagging" of trying to get me to sit through a hour and a half seminar about a timeshare... When I told the worker who kept calling me over and over that I was not interested she had quite an attitude!

The front desk staff who were working Tuesday, July 15th were nothing short of amazing and accommodating. I am truly thankful for the effort they made to make our stay as comfortable as possible!

We had a great stay. It was perfect for what we needed and wanted: kitchen to cook, ocean view, close to beach front and walking distance to restaurants and shops, indoor pool, separate bedroom.

Nice property, definitly older and showing wear but kept clean. Sandwiched between two major beach roads so traffic noise was insane, lots of redneck aholes racing up and down the strip all hours of the night. Very easy walk to the beach and boardwalk and walkable distance to resturants and shops (5 mins or less). Small pizza place in first floor was convenient.

Hopefully, the bathroom will be updated during the off season. It was fully functional, but showing its age. Our one bedroom suite was perfect for the two of us. Our family had space to sleep six. The suite was great, but their view was not. Oh well. Resort is comfortable walking distance to ocean and trolley is across the street. Yes, I’d stay again.

Excellent location! Best restaurant in VAB is right across the street and so is the boardwalk. The quieter end of the beach but so close to many great restaurants and the marina.

The location of Ocean Key Resort is great. The beach is a 4 minute walk. It is located at the southern end of the boardwalk so it is a bit quiet The accommodation are nice. The staff qas very friendly and willing to assist when needed.

Excellent location! Best restaurant in VAB is right across the street and so is the boardwalk. The quieter end of the beach but so close to many great restaurants and the marina.

Our stay was amazing! We arrived early and the staff allowed us to use the amenities and even got the room cleaned so we could check in early. Our room had an amazing view of the ocean from the bedroom and balcony. It was the perfect view to wake up and go to sleep to. The TV was huge and the couch bed was very comfy for our kids and even had enough room for me to snuggle up and watch a movie with them. The game room wasn't the greatest, since two of the five games weren't working right, but the staff had one of the fixed by the next day. We also played pool, which was fun. They also had crafts for kids and adults at noon and 3pm everyday, which was nice. They had a nice area for the crafts with a lovely lady named Joanna helped my children make bird houses and shark necklaces. The crafts were very good quality. I loved that the beach was just steps away. It was easy for our family to go back and forth with ease. A major plus was the free coffee the Ocean key lets guests use until 10am everyday. It has a wide variety of coffee and add ons, so you can take your coffee to the beach and watch the waves or to the Bayside walkway and watch the wildlife while enjoying coffee and both are steps away from the hotel. All the staff were so nice and helpful. But my family's favorite part was the the pizza shop Roma Pizza right on the ground floor. The pizza was so good. The sauce, the huge slices and the great service. It only took minutes to get our food and you can sit inside, outside

This was a great place for us for 5 days. The rooms were nice, clean, comfortable and the kitchen was very well supplied. I was disappointed we didn’t have an ocean view but the view of the inlet was neat. The traffic on pacific Ave was loud but died down after about 10 or 11pm. The pool and game floor were awesome. Nice having a restaurant on the property. The staff were great.

Great views of the ocean, pizza spot was great for a quick bite, sunsations right next door, complimentary coffee machine in the lobby, and right across from Waterman’s which is a fantastic restaurant. Will definitely stay here again!

The hotel was very disappointing, the hot tub was cold, and smelled funky. Staff did not seem very professional or friendly. However, the pizza place was very good, and it was convenient for shopping, hitting the beach and restaurants.

I booked the property for multiple reasons. One of them being the room said it had a ceiling fan. When we got to the room there was no ceiling fan. The room was supposed to be non smoking and there were signs everywhere about not smoking in room and property but had been smoked in and smelled pretty bad. The lights were falling off the wall, the room condition was ok. Another reason we booked the room was the picture on site showed a room with a balcony and the room did not have one. I guess I should have checked that better. We ordered from the pizza place in the building and the pizza was cold when we went down to get it and the side of ranch we got was like water and smelled and tasted funny. Had to pay extra for the ranch but ended up throwing it away. The pool area was dirty with clumps of hair all over the place. There was only one elevator that worked so it took forever whenever you had to use the elevator, epically when trying to get your cart up and down from the parking garage. There was a light in the room with the couch that could only be on for a couple minutes before it started striving so we could not use the lamp in that room. When we went to play pool the pool table kept getting the balls stuck so we would have to spend extra money everytime we played a game to send balls down the pockets to get balls unstuck and then had to spend money to get those balls released to play a game.

Friendly quiet from the lobby access to the pool to the pizzeria. Amazing.
