Monterey Surf Inn

Our room and the entire property had been recently remodeled. Everything was clean and nice. We were happy to see that they not only had a refrigerator in the room but also a microwave. The staff were friendly and helpful. The parking is right at your door and there is plenty for all of the rooms. We were sad to see that the pool wasn't quite finished and open but it looked like it will be soon. Our great grandson enjoyed the bathtub and spent a while in it having a good time. The location is great and close to everything. We were surprised that they didn't cost a lot more for the location and how nice the property was. It was a bargain compared to other hotels in the area. I highly recommend this hotel.

Clean place, easy to find parking. Very quiet, very peaceful staying. I also appreciate they have a good variety of hot drinks in the office for free.

Staff was great when we checked in. Rate was affordable. It was quiet and clean. Pool area was under construction. I would stay here again.

We loved it so much we stayed another night. The parking was a little weird but plentiful.

Room was Spartan, but very clean and nice. Was exactly what I wanted - a budget-friendly, comfortable, safe place to sleep for a night as I was passing through. Parking was the only part of my stay that could have been better. Would definitely stay here again.

The room was clean. Quiet area. location was good, mall nearby, Thia restaurant next door. Not to do far from downtown area great if you have a vehicle. parking was tight that only down fall. other than that, I recommended the stay.

Good clean place close to Fisherman’s Wharf. Currently under renovation, the pool is empty and fenced off. Entrance, office entrance, and parking area is difficult to access due to construction. Room furniture is limited and out dated. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would not recommend this site until the work is completed.

I would have given excellent across the board, but they are undergoing renovations and should state that on their listing.

The pool is being rebuilt, so parking is a little difficult. Besides that, the staff was nice, rooms are clean. It was easy to find. I felt safe in the area.

We love the comfortable bed but the cleaning solution used in the room is too strong for us we almost left in the middle of the night.

I know that property was recently remodeled cause i stay there last 3/24. The problem is that work done is really bad. The floor has fairly new vinal flooring but it was lumpy all throw room. The bathroom door would not close properly because of bubbly floor the piece board separating bath from bedroom was raised up. The bathroom shower had some mold & cauking was also inferior so that could be why had places that had mold so we left without shower. Had i know room would be that bad i Would NEVER HAVE STAYED THERE. Especially when they charged close to $200 including taxes for 1 night. It's kinda of a dump. Will NEVER stay again.

Looks like they are renovating the hotel and pool. The pool is completely closed off. Walked into the room and noticed a few water damage spots on the ceiling. The bathtub had mold all around it. The water pressure of the shower was super weak, water barely came out. On a good note the bed was comfy and the location is in a quiet neighborhood

The facilities are really dirty, crawled into bed and realized the sheets hadn't been washed. There was a lot of hair in the bed. Went to the front desk to get a refund, the guy working the front counter told us he couldn't refund me for that night because the room was no longer rentable. However it wasn't rentable in the first place, the sheets were not washed. He said he would refund us for our second night and take us to a room that had been cleaned so we can switch rooms. I asked him to escort me to the new room number so we could inspect the cleanliness of the room. the first thing I did was pull back the sheets that also had clearly not been washed, it was stained with small brown stains and it had a bunch of long hairs in it. At that point he had to call his boss, let him know that they hadn't cleaned the sheets and I was able to get my credit card refunded a few days later. At this point it was 10pm, I had to get over to the nearest Hilton property to get a clean comfortable room. Also the pool was under construction, so that was also not as advertised. Sad part about this is when I was leaving there was a lady standing behind me to check in. He definitely checked her in knowing the cleaning staff isn't cleaning the sheets. He had no problem letting her sleep in filth... Disgusting

Comfy bed, warm bed cover, pillows nor too thick, great window blackout drapes. With windows closed very quiet. Wood floor clean and all looked freshly renovated. Only setback the strong cleaning agent smell, which is unhealthy.

A clean, easy and reasonably priced hotel to stay in Monterey. Highly recommend!

Very tiny room, smelled of mold. Sink located outside of bathroom, next to bed, very inconvenient for washing up after using the restroom.

The property was very clean.

The Monterey surf inn is a bacterial breeding ground. This place was an absolute nightmare! You can smell the mold in the walls and the moist air in the rooms is doing a great job of assuring the spread of that mold. The air in the room was so moist that the sheets were damp. The floors instantly made the bottom of my feet black from the grime and the bathrooms looked like they are rarely cleaned. The lime scale in the bathroom walls was something I had never seen in a hotel before, but then add hair in the tub drain and mucus looking residue in the sink and I’m sure that’s enough to make you second guess your booking. I am extremely disappointed with Hotels.com for not holding their hotel companies to higher sanitary standards. I really feel violated by exposing my family with a two year old and an infant to this biological experiment, shame on you Hotels.com. This place needs to be condemned. I understand businesses need to make their money, but at whose expense? I will do anything in my power to get this place inspected properly because this should be illegal.

It was nice on the outside, but could be more cleaner inside and maintained better. Along with cleaner bed sheets,sink,and restroom.

SOFTEST BED EVER, I was very surprised with how nice this place was. It was very cheap to book and assumed it would be a bit sketchy but it was so nice. Idk why everyone has bad reviews about this place because it was so nice

The hotel was a ripoff. I didn't expect much from a motel and knew that the price would be ridiculous because all hotels in Monterey gouge travelers during car week. But $580 a night for this dump was obscene. There was no closet, no drawers or shelves for clothing, a tiny work table where i had to put all my underwear, socks and belongings, no hair dryer and no coffee maker. Bottled water was $4.50. Worse, I was told at check in I'd have to run hot water in the tub for 5 to 10 minutes before it would be warm for a shower. No joke! I couldn't even get hot water in the sink to just wash my face! TOTAL RIPOFF!!!

The heat/ac unit was so loud a actual airplane was quieter. And u could hear every room unit threw wall.the window was above bed lock was broken and no screen and the alley back there was very dark and scary NO I DID NOT FEEL SAFE! There was no smoking or pets but the room next to me had a dog barking and howling for hours till I complained at midnight.i am a traveling nurse that gets up early and this was inexcusable and the guys every night drank and smoked so many cigarettes it filled up my room for hours it was completely a nightmare from HELL AND THEY WERE LOUD TILL MIDNIGHT I WOULD NEVER STAY AT THE MOTEL FROM HELL AGAIN! Worst motel i ever stayed at!! Anf if u wanna smoke a carton a day within 4 hours stay here ! No peace of mind or quiet the whole stay

This is a cute Inn in a good location. For the price, its a good deal. The bed was surprisingly comfy. (I usually only stay at Marriott hotels). The rooms are really small, but I only slept there so it wasn't a problem for me. I would stay here again.

The hotel is Ok, in a good location. The equipment seems to be old. Bath does not drain water properly, and water accumulates taking shower. The wifi is extremely weak and slow.

Property was nice, we booked the cheapest room (#30) and had no windows except in the bathroom. There may have been mold on the wall…?

For the price was very good but I’ve never been to a hotel that has no nightstands. The nightstands are on the ceiling so I have a switch on and off very bright weird second we did not have no clock in the bedroom third if I needed to iron some thing which I did, no iron bird the refrigerator and microwave we’re on the ground but other than that I’ll let you guys judge that

The bed was meh. The shower was meh. The property itself is meh. The bedding and towels were meh. The internet connection did not work in my room. it was a safe place to sleep for a few nights.....

Great stay. My only complaint would be that no one was there to check us in at 3:00pm. Several of us waited till 3:45 when the receptionist arrived

This is absolutely one of the worst hotels. They have no sympathy for their guests and no understanding. I booked my weekend here for my nephews birthday back in November, I had until the 7th of January to cancel. The wildfires in Los Angeles started on the 7th and exploded overnight - to the point of a state of emergency. I attempted to cancel my reservation on the morning of the 8th because of how severe the fires had gotten, also the only two freeways for me to get there were closed due to the fires. So not only was there no way to get there, it was completely unsafe and my family was dealing with the wildfires as well. I was reaching out for an update every other day. It took two weeks to get a final response from the hotel. They kept telling me a manager needed to approve and there was never a manager on site for some reason to speak with. I cannot believe that this hotel not only would not refund me for my stay due to extenuating circumstances but they didn’t even offer to change the dates of my visit when travel would have been safe. Absolutely disgusting behavior from this hotel, no compassion for their guests and no willingness to assist during a difficult and stressful time. I would never book here again and will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. I could not believe the price. Mike, in the office, was absolutely great! Wonderful customer service. Absolutely no complaints. Thank you and highly recommend.

The Surf Inn is an amazing well designed modern property that delivers AWESOME value, service with the best “coffee machine” I’ve ever experienced on my travels! The front desk staff make my stays smooth…even when PG&E has an area wide power outage! (I will never forget that night, still felt safe & secure in my room as they kept me updated throughout the night)

Liked everything about the place. Super comfy, great location and Mike who checked me in sent me to Kona's for dinner and it was amazing! Will stay here every time in town!

The staff is amazing the room was great. This was the best stay I have ever had.

Room was clean and comfortable. Parking was good. Management was excellent, responsive to guests' needs. Would definitely recommend to fellow travelers.

Staff is not reliable. Will steal your money by refusing reimbursement if you checkout early. Not willing to help solve problem. Will make up "policies" to not reimburse.

I stopped here for a night during a long roadtrip and did not regret it! Checking in late (after 5pm) was not an issue, and the process was easy. My room was comfortable and even though the hotel is by a busy street, I did not feel like it was too loud in the room. Everything was extra clean, the room was spacious, and I slept soundly. The location is also super convenient, only about a mile from the main street in Monterey. Would definitely stay again!

Great location in a beautiful and very quiet setting. Shopping center for coffee and meals is walking distance.

Clean place to stay. Comfortable beds. Movie theater, dining and shopping within walking distance. Close to Cannery Row, the wharf and downtown.

Just needed a quick spot to sleep. Went to Big Sur and Carmel which are both fairly close and easy access to freeway. The wharf is near and the food was decent.

Not pleased. Pool and property under construction . Parking tight. No coffee in room no iron as stated. Bathroom door coming unhinged. Hard to close. No premier channel on tv. No blow dryer though not stated just expected. No daytime privacy, only darkening curtains when opened could see in and out. Would have appreciated continental breakfast only coffee in lobby offered. Nothing for kids.

Great low budget option in Monterey. Across from Del Monte shopping area which has great Hawaiian themed Kona restaurant. Near downtown and bike trail across the street. They were doing a face lift when we were there so going to look good and already had a great outside lounge area. Was the lowest price Monterey area hotel when we booked so a great deal.

Very nice, pleasant stay. Very quiet even though a main street is out in front. They have done some renovations on the property, area outside is very clean, building and rooms painted nicely. Ample parking. Room was super clean and fresh looking. Comfy bed. Microwave and mini fridge in room. No coffee maker in room, but they have a machine available 24/7 in the office close by with all you want coffee, decaf, hot chocolate, latte, vanilla, hot water for tea, etc; available free tea bags for those that prefer tea. Office is also very clean, reception personnel and the ladies who clean the rooms are friendly and helpful. Mall/shopping area right across the street. Pretty easy to get to Cannery Row, Aquarium, Fisherman's Wharf, Path of History, Presidio Chapel, and others. Yes, we would go back and stay at this hotel !

The gentleman who checked us in was very friendly, the room we had was nice and quite. Loved the coffee machine in the lobby but wish the rooms had coffee as well. We will definitely stay here again.

Great accommodation choice, this newly opened inn made me feel comfortable and clean, convenient parking, and cheap! My husband said we will book it again next time. Although breakfast is not included, don't forget to get two cups of coffee from the coffee machine next to the front desk when you check out, they taste good
