The hotel is located strategically right next to the beach, restaurants, and cute little shops in the cannery. The free breakfast was a great perk. Parking is straightforward, with a small garage right underneath the hotel. When we came back on a Friday night around 9 PM, all spots were taken. However, there is plenty of street parking as well.

Great location and solid stay overall, but with a few key things to know. The hotel is steps from the walking/biking trail, beach, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, and tons of restaurants and shops. We felt safe walking around at night—even our 21-year-old son walking alone. Free parking is a plus, and the complimentary breakfast was a great way to start the day and save a little money. Juan, the manager, was absolutely wonderful—kind, helpful, and responsive. He really made a difference in our stay. However, be very cautious if you're driving a vehicle with any added height. The parking garage has a very low clearance (6'6"), and the warning sign blends into the building and is hard to read. Although the sign says "No pickups, vans, or campers," our SUV with a Yakima rack hit overhead pipes, causing damage. We got stuck and had to back out—causing even more damage. When we told the front desk, they were dismissive and unapologetic, which was frustrating. Thankfully, Juan later handled the situation with professionalism and kindness. Also worth noting: rooms don’t have blackout curtains, so expect to wake up when the sun rises. If location and walkability are your priorities, this place delivers. Just double-check your vehicle height before pulling into the garage!

Hotel is tucked away in a convenient location, within easy walking distance of Cannery Row & the Wharf. The lobby is welcoming, bright, & cheery, including ample eating areas for breakfast buffet. It’s an old motel, with updates. Elevator drops you off, then you have to traverse steps the reach your floor. Room is adequate, no “wow” factor, drab interior colors, typical, clean, functional. TV, too small, hard to view from the bed.

Lovely quaint hotel just off of cannery row. Free parking and breakfast was nice and convenient. Hotel is trilevel with several rows of stairs even after taking elevator to 3rd floor. Would caution individual with wheelchair needs.

The underground parking is very steep to go down and up. Just a note for customers with big trucks or roof racks on the top their suv/truck. The ceiling clearance is low for the parking area.

Our check in was very smooth and easy. Kristin helped us check in and explain where to park etc. however later that night we had a very unpleasant experience with another front desk employee named Deanna. She gave us contradicting information and was very dismissive of our requests. We found her to be rude and ignored us when we said hello to her. Our room was very old and dinky. I understand that the hotel is undergoing a remodel so it felt weird that we were given a room that was not remodeled for the same price as one that was remodeled. Feels unfair. The sheets were not clean and we saw black mold in the shower as well. The best part of our stay was our interactions with the front desk girl Kristen. She was so dang sweet. She deserves a raise.

Room smelled musty an dusty, muggy carpets dirty, one window lock broken, AC didn’t work, I think we were given the worst room on bottom floor. We were in area for a bday celebration. It was me and husband and adult son and daughter so we had 2 queens and the pull out couch. The blanket was so worn out seemed to fall apart. Bananas and bagels only thing good in breakfast. Bathroom was clean.

This Holiday Inn Express is an absolute gem. Located in the literal heart of Cannery Row. We've been staying here off and on since Covid, and one of the biggest attractions is the staff, who have been the same during each visit and remember us well. Clean, modern, great parking. 5/5 stars.

We had a very clean, newly updated room. It was a perfect spot for us while traveling through the area. We loved walking to the beach and nearby shops. I felt safe at the hotel. My only complaint is the noisy street at night, but it’s in a happening area, so that’s to be expected. We also loved the free continental breakfast - that was a great perk!

Updated, remodeled, clean, quite, comfortable, centrally and perfectly located hotel a few minutes away from Cannery row and 10 minutes away from Old Fisherman’s Wharf (walking distance). Breakfast is included and includes all that you may need, from yogurt, to fresh fruit, toast, English muffins, bagels, biscuits, oatmeal, pancakes, brew-yourself coffee and more. We stayed 2 nights, beds comfortable. Parking is included! Highly recommend it.

Everything looks old, dirty and outdated. All kick boards are missing since the carpet was replaced, it smells like paint all throughout the facility. Bath tub was disgusting, old towels and crappy soaps and shampoo.

I stayed here overnight for a family trip to the aquarium. It was an enjoyable walking distance to our attraction along with the stores we visited along the way. The room we stayed in was meticulous and spacious for 2 adults, 2 teens, and one child. CVS is also nearby which was convenient for us when we needed to grab a few things. We just walked there and we walked there at around 10pm. It’s a quiet location—no dogs barking, didn’t hear people talking, and traffic sounds were very minimal. Breakfast was also pretty good with variety of options. The service desk was considerably kind. I would highly recommend this place!

Location was awesome and perfectly in the middle to walk down easily to Cannery row and San Carlos beach. Conveniently across a 7/11 for late night needs, lots of options for food nearby. Place was clean, housekeeping was awesome, most staff at the desk were friendly. Only downside was no microwave in the room and you could hear the people above us stomping back and forth very late at night! Also if you take a steamy shower beware of setting off the smoke detector. I set ours off very late at night and I was woken up in the morning to multiple neighboring rooms having theirs go off. Overall for the price and location I would definitely come back again.

Pros: Great location and newly renovated, clean, spacious room. Free parking and breakfast. Cons: It is very loud in the room. The walls/windows are thin so we heard every car passing below (was on the 2nd floor) as if the window was wide open. Woke up multiple times at night and in the morning. Easy to hear upstairs and next door neighbors. Also noticed the door to the room is not flushed against the frame- you can see a little space and light peaking through. Important to know that there are a few steps you have to walk up/down to get to certain rooms.

I really liked the location, breakfast and parking at the hotel. We came to the area to see the aquarium and it was walkable with a stroller for 2 young children. The bed situation could have been better. I didn’t anticipate the beds which were doubles being so small. I felt like my back hurt from the bedding, maybe it was too soft for my comfort? And when I asked for any additional types of rooms I was told the property was sold out.

The location of the hotel is good, pleasant walk to all of Cannery Row. We barely slept as our room faced Foam Street and we could hear cars and trucks as if our windows were wide open all night long.

Very clean and close to town. The room has the sink, toilet, and shower all in the bathroom. This made it very hard for 4 of us to get ready in the morning. In the evening i wanted to make a hot cocoa but I couldnt get to the sink because my son was showering. You dont realize how important it is to have the sink and bathroom counter accesible and how much it will slow you down in the morning. Would probably not be so bad for just a couple or a family woth small kids, but it was a huge time suck for a family of 4 with mature children that need privacy.

We really loved our stay here. We stopped in Monterey on a trip from San Diego to Crescent city —CA tip to tip! On the way home we stopped in San Francisco instead and after a long drive and fruitless search for safe parking I almost got back in the car to go to the Holiday Inn in Monterey because I just needed to be somewhere where I felt was safe and clean with kind staff. This hotel felt like a safe haven for a mom traveling alone with 3 kids. Staff told me without me even asking to park up front so we can watch your car (cause I had roof storage). Really impressive staff!

We received calls to our room from the receptionist that the people staying below us had called the front desk complaining about bumping noises on the floor and it was disturbing them. The receptionist was rude and asked if I had young children that I could keep quiet and keep from running around the room as to not disturb other guests. This is a great hotel for a family trip to Monterey! You are right off the walking/biking trail, easy access to cannery row and the aquarium and 1 block to the beach and park. Rooms were updated and spacious. Beds were comfortable! And breakfast was lovely. We will come back next time we go to the aquarium.

Room was very clean and newly renovated. There was a lot of construction going on which we were not informed of prior to our arrival. Breakfast area tables were not kept clean & breakfast food was cold. However it was within walking distance to both Wharf & the Cannery. Parking was free.

The hotel was nice and clean and great location. But the breakfast was not the greatest and the pancake machine was broken. Also this hotel is loud. Parents need to not let kids run around and scream in the mornings but the walls are just thin because you hear everything! Even people rolling luggage

Great place! Breakfast was amazing! Lots of options. Very convenient and walkable to many dining and site seeing places. Great for kids. Parking was decent. Couldn’t imagine if it was busy tho. Maybe they will give a voucher to park in front of the hotel during busy season. We had no issues on parking. Definitely will stay here again.
