Red Lion Hotel Monterey

The building and rooms are very old and out dated looking. They need to upgrade and renovate the whole building. They do not have elevators to go up to the other floors and we had luggage on wheels with us too. The gym was nice but needs more equipment.

Wonderful hotel my only complaint is that the restaurant was closed but still advertised it as open

I liked that they are pet friendly. The property is a little dated but the staff are very nice. There was a little moisture damage starting to show, otherwise pretty clean. My phone got a weak signal and the internet was spotty. We were there in winter and the pool/hot tub were closed. I wish the lounge was open or the restaurant. This was very convenient to CHOMP and mall.

Good helpful. Customer service. But the gym was not like the pictures at all. Only a couple old broken dumbbells in a mostly empty room. A few cardio machines some of which weren’t even plugged in. The pictures also show a restaurant and hotel bar. Neither of these were actually open for use. Nice people at the desk. Just a busted old property.

The check-in process was smooth. The gentleman at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The location of this property was excellent really. However, the descriptions dont really match. The restaurant on property wasn't open. They advertised breakfast but they just have a few pastries available. The hot tub was out of service as well. The beds were also really uncomfortable and the pillows were exceptionally flat.

The night clerk was very short tempered with the lady checking in prior to me. He told her her room was on the 3rd floor so she asked where the elevator was, he said there was no elevator and she said “oh we have suitcases and an ice chest” he responded back “ it is ONLY 10 stairs ma’am” she said that was a challenge and he said if it’s a problem I will help you - in a very patronizing way. She was older and this tone was not necessary. She had asked if the there was coffee and he said kind of snarky “yes we have coffee”. Then he explained where she could park - in the back dark parking area which would be closer to her “10” stairs up. He then checked me in and I didn’t bother asking any questions except how much the room was since he removed the dog charge as I didn’t have a dog, he said he couldn’t tell me that. And again he tried to get me to park around the back and I only had to go down 5 stairs. BS - when I part closer to my room which was 13 stairs up, I did walk to where he said to park and it was no means closer, safer, or down 5 stairs. Moving on - the grounds were filthy, garbage every where. I did see clerk in their gym doing something- I did not lurk, but he should have or someone should have been walking the grounds picking up all the trash. I understand there are homeless people around so measures should be taken to guard the property and keep it clean. The hot tub was drained and not running. The toilet in our room was not flushed. No soap in dispenser.

Front desk was efficient and helpful. It's fine the room is old, but could have been cleaner. Mattress was lumpy and not comfortable. Bathroom lights were dim. overall ok experience. I booked for prior name recognition and solo travel safety, but I think any other motel on the strip may have been just as standard and cost a little less. Also, no elevator to 3rd floor. up only 2 short flights, but I have slight mobility issue so was unexpected. Location is good, right by freeway and shopping center.

Convenient location, but no food options, jacuzzi was not in use, bathroom was very dirty, hot water in shower ceased after a few minutes.

The worst part is that we specifically booked this hotel because it said it had a restaurant onsite. The restaurant has been closed for quite a while. This needs to be corrected on their information! The hot tub was out of order during our stay also. The best part is the big parking lot if you have a large vehicle and its location near the mall which does have restaurants. Otherwise, its a very bare bones hotel.

This hotel was nasty. One of my rooms smelled so bad of cigarette smoke. The floors, walls, refrigerator, and curtains were filthy. There was a hole in the wall at the tub faucet. The floors were still dirty after being mopped. The food I put in the refrigerator smelled so bad when I was getting ready for checkout. This place is disgusting.

This place is a pit. Dirty tub with a comb and glob of hair in the shower stall. Overall felt dingy and dirty.

The condition of our room was terrible from paint falling off the walls, ripped up draperies, dirty toilet which was so loud when it flushed, poor condition of bathroom tile and plumbing fixtures, thin walls which meant we heard everything from other other rooms. This hotel needs a serious overhaul. Too much deferred maintenance.

The room was dirty. The hardwood floors clearly had not been mopped and turned our feet black with dirt. There was a dirty wash cloth from the last customer hanging over the shower (so grossed out). There were no blankets and when I asked if I can get them they made me go down stairs to get them myself. The ice bucket was dirty. The lightbulb by the bed was out. When we asked if they can replace it, they said, not today. When we told them the room was dirty they did not do anything about it. I understand this is a three star hotel so I’m not expecting the world. But I at least expect it to be properly cleaned for health and safety purposes. Super disappointing.

The first room we were given was dirty, full of dead bugs and spider webs and had a broken window latch. The replacement room was fine. The staff were very nice.

I would never stay in this hotel again. I had to ask for a room change on the first day. Room had a bad smell, sheets were dirty and bathroom was not cleaned. Phones were not working. I called front desk from my cell to come and take a look. I was moved to another room that the bathroom had mold in the ceiling. Tub was clogged. I had to call them to come and fix it. It was so Unhygienic to stay. I had no choice at the time since my husband was in ICU that hotel was closes to the hospital.

Pictures are very photoshopped. The hotel is pretty run down and bathroom had mold.

Check in took for ever, Room looked Nice but then I pulled the covers and found long strands of black hair in the sheets, hair was also found in the shower wall, drain in the tub was full of hair also.

The shower not got hot, just light medium. Also you can hear every door shut from anywhere.

While the room was basically clean, the property appears to need some upkeep. Our room had molding coming off the wall and the barn door that serves as the bathroom door doesn’t completely cover the entry space. We were short on towels, which were quickly provided by the housekeeper after I tracked her down.

Rooms need paint job and other cosmetic improvements and clean windows

The hotel isn’t in great condition, it’s pretty dated, and the room had an unpleasant smell. You can hear everything from all the rooms near you and random noises from what appears to be the plumbing? The heater was not working. We also heard a lot of screams in the middle of the night, which isn’t necessarily the hotels fault, but not something you want to go through. Overall not a great experience but I guess you get what you pay for?

Good area to be in for a golf stay in Monterey area. Room wasnt fantastic for the price. Shower head needs updating. Wifi not great and virtually no phone data signal inside my room.

Beds in 1st room were very uncomfortable. The springs in the mattress springs dug into your back. Changed rooms and the next room were a little better but could not sleep for more that 3 hrs at a time and woke up with sore backs. The showers did not work properly. We stayed 3 nites and the coffee pods were not replaced in the room. This hotel is in a great location but will not stay here again.

The hotel is old but Clean, Bed is comfortable. has coffee pod which is much taste than other way.when the pod wash tru the high pressure the coffee is tate better. The evening F.Desk mgr. Rick is the best.Friendly and effeciency and alway wling to offer the best to guest. He is the best F.Desk manager i have ever seen as i been travel 45 years.

The staff member at the front desk was friendly, professional & just out-right cool.

I called around 2PM to see if we could check in since we were already in the area. The man who answered the phone at the front desk sounded annoyed, was very short with me and practically hung up on me after telling me that our room would be ready in about 20 to 30 minutes. We got there around 2:40 and there was no one at the front desk. We had to wait about 20 minutes until someone finally showed up and started checking people in. At that point, a line of people had formed who had also been waiting. The next day we had asked if they had any plastic utensils that we could have since we had ordered takeout and they forgot to give us utensils. The woman at the front desk gave us several plastic spoons, but instructed us that we must return them…do they reuse the plastic spoons? Gross! This was a last-minute option for us as we were looking for a hotel in Monterey that was pet friendly. Overall, the location was good. The room was pretty clean, could use some updating. But the cold customer service was the worst part of our stay. Probably would not stay here again.

I literally don't have a positive thing to say about this hotel. My stay was absolutely awful from start to finish. Firstly, the pictures for this hotel are an ABSOLUTELY FALSE representation. I stayed here years ago. The pictures were accurate for THAT time period. All the furnishings you see in the pictures are now worn and dirty. Now, this place is ABSOLUTELY FILTHY. I was shocked when I walked into my room. The bathroom was disgusting to the point I didn't want to take a shower. The floors were so dirty, my socks turned black. There were splatters on the walls and stains on the bedding. Toothpaste pushed into the toilet flush handle. One thing after another went wrong. There was no hot water, my room key randomly stopped working, the TV remote stopped working, there were people smoking cigarettes in the non-smoking rooms. 3 nights in a row, my room was filled with smoke. Housekeeping was awful. AFTER she cleaned the bathroom, there was dirt and hair on the floor. Homeless people were hanging out in the parking lot. The restaurant/lounge is closed. Some of the staff clearly hated their job and had an attitude. They didn't have basic greeting skills. I believe the owners changed for this place and it went downhill from there. Staying here completely ruined my trip that I booked months in advance. I had no idea it became so bad and I will never be staying here ever again.

The stay overall was only okay. The rooms seemed like they were falling apart and needed repairs. Lots of small things like paints chips all around and crooked paintings. The sofa has weird stains around it so we avoided sitting on it or using it. There was a handle that was dangling off the bathroom sink that seems like a simple fix. There was no hand soap which was disappointing and a bit unsanitary. These all seemed like low-cost improvements that could have been done to improve quality of the stay. The biggest issue we had though was the thin walls in the room. We were woken up everyday at 6 am by the neighboring room’s alarm going off. At other hotels you can’t hear between rooms as well as here. The housekeeping was outside our room vacuuming before 9 am as well. The positive is that the staff was very friendly and we did not have any issues there.

Quiet, easy to get to. Staff was very nice, helped me check in a bit early as a room had opened up early. Pretty easy to get to aquarium via car, about 10 minutes. Next to shopping center

We had an enjoyable stay. We had a service dog and ESA with us and had no problems with walking, it is beautiful around the rear of the hotel. We chose here because they had a deal on Expedia and it was close to the hospital. We will add Red Lion Hotel to our go to travel list. Checking in was stress free and front desk was nice.

Updated, modern and easy check in with George. He was very nice and accommodating.

Location was perfect. Staff was great. They helped with my child who is currently in waiting on a hip replacement. Little chilly in the room an extra blanket would’ve been good.

The location was fabulous to easily go into Pacific Grove or into Carmel. The bed was perfect and the overall amenities very good for the price. Great location next to a gas station and mini-mart for incidentals. Two areas requiring attention. The bathtub needed unclogging. Not terrible but needs attention. Also, the downstairs ice machine did not work.

Clean. Pet friendly. All laminate flooring. Several restaurants within walking distance. Next to a gas station.

This place is great for its location is near from the Fwy and side street, near from restaurants and stores and also there’s a gas station besides the hotel.

The hotel was good, clean room with lots of space. The other guest were somewhat inconsiderate of the noise the doors make if you don’t slow them down when they close. Given the price paid I have zero complaints. Centrally located for easy moving about.

Convenient location to freeway, Monterey Wharf, restaurants, and 8 minutes from Carmel.

Easy to find off the freeway and easy parking/access to the rooms. Great for just an overnight trip

Good location close by to Monterey sight seeing spots for beaches, aquarium, wharf, and shopping mall. However, the exist for freeway can be tricky make sure to go past Monterey exist and next on ramp is the one you will want to take. The hotel is connected with a 711 gas station which is easily missed if not paying attention. As far as cleanliness goes it was alright.

Breakfast is one of the reasons why I choose this hotel. However, there was no breakfast in the morning. I asked the person at the counter about the breakfast when I checked in, he told me that breakfast was included. The WiFi is pretty poor in the hotel, but it only happened for my iphone12, it was always complaining that the WiFi was not secured, but it worked fine with my mother’s phone because her phone is not iPhone. Maybe I should complain Apple, but I also want to complain about the hotel’s WIFI due to the unsecured thing. In addition, the fridge is leaking water as well.

The place was too noisy. I could hear my neighbor's conversation all night. Also they placed me near the hotels laundry facility and there was noise coming from there too. They offered a small continental breakfast, it was very small and only was on saturday morning. Sunday there was none.
