I really liked the location - close to public transportation & local attractions.The front desk staff were friendly & helpful. The room was clean. I didn't like that my booking said there was a hot tub and there wasn't. Wasn't a big deal for this stay as we were mostly sight seeing but the hot tub needs to be removed from amenities. Overall, a very pleasant stsy.

This property is a little gem! The staff was very friendly and helpful, the beds were very comfortable and the room was a nice size. The highlight was the deck by a small creek. It was lovely! We had a room right off the deck and we opened the slider at night to get some cool air in the room (no ac at this property and there was a heatwave). The room cooled off nicely and the nature sounds were soothing after a long day of driving. The front desk does have fans if you needed one. I think I might just have a fan in every room like they do the portable heaters. The breakfast spread was very nice. Croissants, instant oatmeal, bagels, eggs waffles to toast, all great! Other than fans in all rooms, I would recommend that the property have side tables on all sides of the beds for electronic devices, drinks, etc. Great stay!! I highly recommend!

Great location, off street parking, walkable to downtown, the continental breakfast had lots of choices with quality food and the the staff was friendly and efficient. No AC in the rooms so if it's hot out you will be hot. The refrigerator in our room made odd clicking noises that made it hard to sleep. When I turned on the shower rust colored water came out first.

Great motel for a good price during tourist season considering it is in Monterey! The room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed. Sliding door provided cool air. No AC but not needed for our visit. The coffee in the lobby was great, although, continental breakfast was nothing special. The location was great for a concert at the beautiful Golden State Theater. Many restaurants and a great bakery within walking distance of the Colton.

Cute, very clean motel in a great location!! Nice room with comfortable beds/linens. Wood burning fireplace but motel charges $15 for a log!!!! Bring your own!!! About a 15 minute walk, just under a mile to the Wharf. Covered carport type parking. Great complimentary breakfast!!!! Highly recommend!!

The hotel locates in a residential area. It is very quiet and interesting to take a walk around. Only one thing needs to pay attention, which parking lot is not enough, first arrive first service, however you can park in the street nearby.

While not exactly the newest place to stay in Monterey, we found the property very clean and well kept and the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. We liked the location for both walking (down to Fisherman's Wharf / whale watching) and driving to almost anywhere (we did the 17 mile drive easily). Parking is somewhat limited, but there are other options so not an issue. Would we go back? Very probably. It was good value in our opinion.

Great location and kind staff. Lobby and community space were very clean. Offered morning breakfast. In walking distance to downtown. Room was quiet and could hear a little brook outside our window. Room was decently clean. Bathroom was a little dated and could see a little mold on the ceiling. Bathroom sink also was a little clogged. Just a bit older of a room and needs an upgrade. But would stay there again- can’t beat that price and location.

Our 2nd floor room was clean, good size and glad there was an elevator. Staff was always friendly. The bathroom could use an update as the old caulking looked very moldy around sink. The breakfast was standard fare. Best part was the location of the Inn.

The overall cleanliness of the room was sorta questionable, the carpets are either VERY old or not cleaned. Our room had a sweet maple scent which was off-putting. I understand that the property is older, but it may be time to at least deep clean the carpets. Service was great! Continental breakfast was VERY basic. Plenty of parking. Room service is only if you ask for it. It's near the public library and walking distance to a lot of things, to note there are quite a few homeless that hang around, but I never felt unsafe.

Stayed 2 nights in July in a king, first floor room. Room was clean and spacious. Bed was comfortable. The couch had a major sag in the middle and was almost unusable. The bathroom was large and the tub and shower were clean and operating well with good water flow and hot water supply. The continental breakfast was marginal. Check in was very slow, with a slow-moving lineup. It really shouldn’t take that long since everyone has probably provided all the relevant info other than vehicle online. Location was very good, with a reasonable walk to Fisherman’s Wharf. Other than check in, my only significant complaint was the noise level from the room above. It seemed we could hear every footstep above us. There seemed to be a family with at least two active children who were running around. The noise disturbed both me and my wife. Fortunately, the children did not settle too late, but that was purely luck of the draw. If you stay here my advice is to request a room on the upper floor. Overall, I would rate this hotel 7 out of 10, downgraded mainly because of the room noise.

We enjoyed our stay except there was no A/C and there was 4 of us in this tiny room with no air. Only a sliding door which was ground level so didn’t feel safe leaving it open not knowing the area. It got very stuffy in there by the morning. Other than that it was a great stay.

Very friendly staff, nice, clean, and spacious room. Fairly thin windows/walls so some noise at night from cars. Easy walk to downtown/restaurants but away from the busy area, about 10 min walk to conference center. I would go stay here again!

There are several nearby places to walk to get breakfast, coffee and pastries so there is minimal benefit to having their breakfast options onsite. The rooms are clean but a bit dated. AC would be nice to have. Interesting that the last several stays there is notable maintenence or upgrades going on but I can't tell what's being upgraded.

Checking in to the property was a nightmare. Very unorganized. The line was long. Multiple reservations got mixed up. The general manager Ellen was very rude to everyone in-line she does not do well under pressure. She made several comments about the sites that were used for booking. Not to mention she called the cops threatening to kick out people due to them getting frustrated with her lack of checking in. Police told us they are called by her several times and she does it often. Very unprofessional for the amount of money this property charges. Rooms are very out dated not to mention very hot. Parking was horrible. I would never stay here again.

Super bummed and upset to write this review. Our stay was mostly fine. Continental breakfast with somewhat limited options. No options for water without flavoring. We stayed in room 223 which the smoke detector was set off every single time we used the shower. Even bathing our children so the water wasn’t overly hot or warm to cause this. Bathroom fan useless to non-existent to mitigate this. The main reason for my review is lack of customer service. We drove in 2.5 miles for a wedding. I accidentally left a pair of shorts behind and the hotel confirmed they were there but refused to ship them or hold them for more than 30 days. Very flimsy excuse about lack of packing materials to ship them and something about UPS being unkind to them? No idea what that has to do with it but lack of customer service or trying to find a solution outside of me having to drive 5 hours to retrieve them sucks especially when we spent several hundred dollars to stay. Will not return.

Our experience was absolutely horrible. I had never experienced this at any property where my booking was canceled with no money back after an unpleasant exchange over the phone simply because they did not like the appearance of my guests staying in the room with me. These were my workers traveling for a project in the area. It truly felt like racial profiling.

The two ladies at the front desk are awesome. I forgot their names, but one worked the night shift and the other was a Dutch lady. Both incredibly sweet and kind. Breakfast was taken care of by one of them and she kept everything clean and stocked. And both super cool to talk to. This may be the first time that we re-book a hotel in Monterey!
The two ladies at the front desk are awesome. I forgot their names, but one worked the night shift and the other was a Dutch lady. Both incredibly sweet and kind. Breakfast was taken care of by one of them and she kept everything clean and stocked. And both super cool to talk to. This may be the first time that we re-book a hotel in Monterey!

Very nice (and still affordable) place. Walking thru central 5 min to wharf with many good restaurants etc. Nice walk to Pacific Grove (easy enjoy). Easy access to Hwy 1. And still quite. Love this hotel.

We had a wonderful experience at the Colton Inn for our first time staying in Monterey! Communication with the property was excellent, as our flight was delayed and we arrived much later than anticipated. Our room on the second floor was wonderful, clean, and quiet. You can't beat the location - a quick walk to the main street area with tons of restaurants. Parking was a little tight at the property, but there was always a spot and it was nice knowing on-street parking was also an option. After looking at many accommodation options, I'm so glad we went with Colton Inn!

Great motel for a good price during tourist season considering it is in Monterey! The room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed. Sliding door provided cool air. No AC but not needed for our visit. The coffee in the lobby was great, although, continental breakfast was nothing special. The location was great for a concert at the beautiful Golden State Theater. Many restaurants and a great bakery within walking distance of the Colton.

Great location, off street parking, walkable to downtown, the continental breakfast had lots of choices with quality food and the the staff was friendly and efficient. No AC in the rooms so if it's hot out you will be hot. The refrigerator in our room made odd clicking noises that made it hard to sleep. When I turned on the shower rust colored water came out first.

The Colton Inn is a simple, no frills stay. We feel very comfortable staying there, and we are picky when it comes to cleanliness. It’s a great place if you’re traveling with kids or friends. We love the walkability. We always had everything we needed without having to ask. Only thing that could be improved upon is the breakfast. Or you can just skip it all together. The breakfast area is so small that it makes it difficult to get what you want, and awkward if you’re not into communing with strangers first thing in the morning. But overall a nice place, especially for the price… we have stayed there 3 times, and will be back.

Loved the location. Close to the wharf and historical places as well as restaurants and bars. Although the breakfast was not hot breakfast it did have a toaster and hard boiled eggs for protetin.
